  1. Started by Jeannaisais,

So, this past Saturday night I decided to branch away from my typical tea only stance... A Spaniard invited one of my friends out to the botellon and discoteca, and she in turn invited two of her friends so she wouldn't be alone. Firstly, the botellon is where a whole bunch of people stand around and drink in a park while a discoteca is a bar with tons of dancing space. Secondly, I had rum with fanta...three glasses of it...and was tipsy. I just wanted to share my first 'true' alcoholic experience with you guys. Usually in real life I'm very quiet and introverted and would never want to dance...me tipsy=wouldn't shut up and wanted to dance. Who knows what would ha…

  4. Well, the song I am about to post gave me an idea. Apart from Jak O' The Shadows, an army like the Band of the Red Hand should have plenty of songs to sing around the Campfires. Please post the songs, along with lyrics, that you think would make ideal singing for the Band on those starry nights, a Brew in one hand, and good company all around!

  6. Well, it has taken quite some time (blame the DM move and my forgetfulness!), but The Band of the Red Hand returns to our search for our Dream Band. So far, the following have been nominated for our Dream Band: - Carlos Santana will be on Guitar - Rush's Geddy Lee is the bass player - Within Temptation's Sharon den Adel as the female vocalist - Freddie Mercury of Queen won the position of Male Vocalist - Neil Peart of Rush is the drummer Next and our final stop on our list is Keyboardists, several months after we started out on our epic journey. You managed to nominate five (5) Keyboardists to challenge for the honour, and Corki has filled the remaining eleven…

The UND Concert Choir, the auditioned choir at the University of North Dakota, will be touring in the Netherlands and Belgium March 13-22. Concert stops include an honor choir festival in Bruges, as well as a couple of other stops of which I am currently unaware. I guarantee a great time, if for no other reason than the fact that North Dakotans have hilarious accents. As a bonus, I'll be going along with them; for those of you who know me, that's probably not much of a motivation. Just throwin' it out there; we'd love to actually have an audience at our gigs.

Okay peeps, I need some serious help here! I'm living in Granada, Spain until the end of May and will be traveling to Rome, but have nowhere else to travel as of yet, nor any idea as of where I would like to travel! So, tell me, if it was your VERY FIRST TIME in Europe and you weren't sure if you would ever make it back, where are the places that you would absolutely have to see before leaving? Keep in mind, you have 3 day weekends every weekend, all of Holy Week off and a 5 day weekend the week after Holy Week....and on a bit of a limited budget....what to do, what to do?!

  9. Started by F Horn of Valere,

During the transitional period between DM 7 and 8, there was an announcement of a temporary suspension on the Recruit Training Program. After carefully evaluating our options, as well as taking into account some of the feedback recieved, the Recruit Training Program is hereby suspended indefinately. The program has outlived its purpose, and until the Band undergoes some drastic changes in numbers, the program will not be reinstated. Effective immediately, new members will be given a week to choose their Regiment, although they may choose at any point until then.

Well, that song title from Katrina and the Waves pretty much sums up how I am feeling at the moment! Today was exam results day for the accountancy exams I sat back in December 2010. And I passed both! And I was pretty convinced I had failed one. That now leaves just 3 exams left overall before I qualify as a fully fledged accountant.

Firstly, apologises for the slowness in welcoming you! I was having net issues last night, as well as having a few too many Brews! That has been put aside, and here is your own thread! I has asked for you to be added to our usergroup. I have no idea how long that will take, so please wait patiently. In the meantime, feel free to jump into the threads on our public board. You will be able to shortly see a lot more boards once the admins get into gear. F Horn of Valere, the Band's Executive Officer, will be in touch shortly about getting you through our Recruit Scheme and being a fully fledged Bander! So, sit back and enjoy yourself here!

Heading to Rome this weekend with my program here in Spain....we arrive in Rome Friday night at 7pm, leave monday morning at 7am and I have one optional guided tour that takes us to a whole bunch of plazas by bus that saturday morning. Right now I'm thinking of taking Saturday to go the Coliseum, the Vatican and the Panthenon (and yes, in that order). Then I wanna take Sunday to just roam around the city and maybe visit some of the other famous places to visit, like the plazas? But there's also the chance of going to Pompeii on Sunday and I'm at a loss for which would be better. The main reason I keep turning down Pompeii is that I've never really had much interes…

  16. This idea started last month, but because January is tax return time in the UK, it didn't get my full focus. Anyway, hopefully February will be better! We have never really had a news thread dedicated to music in the past. I have posted the odd thread when I see something interesting, but I feel one thread started each month will be beneficial and a good addition to our boards. I suspect I will be the one posting predominately, but the thread is open to all to post any news relating to the world of music, for example, news of a new album, tour or band member, or maybe the sad passing of one of the greats from the music world. Any genre is fine, so I am sure there wil…

I know not everyone is a huge fan of valentine's day, but it is still celebrated by quite a few people! Does anybody have big plans for tonight/this weekend/or already had them this past weekend? As for me...I'm a couple thousand miles away from the man of my dreams and I miss him like crazy, which means I'll be spending the day studying to help alleviate that...of course, we've yet to actually spend valentine's day together despite going out for two years because of being long distance even in the states so it shouldn't be too hard today. All i know is, I want some chocolate! And lots of it!!

Quite a lot is going on in February this year for the Band of the Red Hand Social Group. Our main theme for the month is focusing on the music from the 1980s. And at last, we will finally complete your Dream Band when we wrap up the Keyboardist section. NOMINATE YOUR FAVOURITE SONGS FROM THE 1980S For the beginning of February, I am looking to you to nominate your favourite songs from the 1980s. Somewhere between 16 and 32 nominations is what I am looking for, and those nominated will go into the "It's A Knockout" contest which song the Band considers to be DM's favourite song from the 1980s. Nominate Your Favourite Songs From The 1980s! --> This is now closed…

February is 1980s music month in the Band of the Red Hand Social Group. It was an intriguing decade of music - synthesizers were on the up, rap and hip/hop became popular, pop music emerged and then there was the rock music. So a bit of everything. And to celebrate that, in addition to our weekly "Tune or No Tune" and "Original vs. Cover" thread, we will be having an "It's A Knockout" thread to find out what we think the best song of the decade was. According to VH1, it was Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi. Will we agree? Between now and SATURDAY 12TH FEBRUARY 2011, nominate your favourite songs from the 1980s to challenge for the title of DM's favourite song of the 198…

[WARNING: This song is not appropriate for younger peoples...and most likely anyone with extreme sensabilities will not enjoy this song...not that anyone else will] I stumbled upon this song on Youtube while listening to the ever-lovely, delightfully talented, Fallulah. It was under the sidebar where youtube suggests new music for you. I was intrigued, so I played it. I think this should be the new standard for how utterly shit-ridden a song can be. I won't even deign to call it music; it is utter garbage and deserves never to see the light of day or a pair of headphones. I thought Kesha was bad, but she's got nothing on this. Take a listen, if you dare! …

Well, I have to say that I haven't been that impressed by the music at the Super Bowl. The Glee singer wasn't great. Christina sounded like a strangled cat. Black Eyed Peas were reasonable though. Good mix of their songs. Was Fergie's microphone working all the time? Slash was probably there just for the money! Usher was a waste of space. Impressive fluorescent lights for the dancers. Guessing Tron was an influence...

Welcome Recruit Volke!!! I'm recruit Katiora, and I thought I'd go ahead and welcome you on behalf of our dear CG and XO, who are always awful busy running things (or at least that's what they tell us). One of them will be along shortly to request for you to be added to our user group, until then feel free to post in any of the threads here! I saw in your post that you want to become an archer, which is great, however in order for you to choose Archers as your Regiment you will have to go through a short training program which will allow you to become more familiar with the band as a whole and its individual regiments. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your time here! If…
