This months Artist of the Month is the Allman Brothers Band. A Southern Rock group formed in Jacksonville, FL in 1969, the band features Duane and Gregg Allman. The band has been caled "the principle architects" of southern rock. Other founding memebers included Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks and Jai Johanny Johanson. The closest that Duane and Gregg had been to success prior to ABB was two failed album attempts as The Hour Glass on the Liberty Records label. Over the last few days, I have been away on holiday to Paris with Northie. Yesterday, we were due back in the UK on our flight from Paris CDG airport. Everything was running smoothly - we boarded the plane on time, and the Cabin Crew were about to give the safety demonstration. Just as that was about to take place, there was an almighty bang on the outside of the plane. The cabin crew and pilot were fantastic, and informed us immediately of what happened. So what did happen? Well, a stupid person that worked at the airport had managed to drive the movable stairs into the plane. This caused our flight to be canceled. Everyone had to be taken off the plane. And it was …

As mentioned in the recent "Tune or No Tune" thread, Xandria are going to be the Artist of the Month for August. I can probably hear many of you going "who?". Firstly, the group are from the German city of Bielefeld. As mentioned in the Tune or No Tune thread, exact classification of their music is difficult, as they seem to cover a variety of genres. But most of the time they are regarded as 'Symphonic Metal' or 'Symphonic Rock'. Other bigger groups of the 'symphonic metal' genre include Nightwish, Within Temptation, After Forever and Epica.
