Wheel of Time TV Show

For all discussion related to Amazon Prime's Wheel of Time TV show.

As someone who was reading TEOTW since it first came out on paperback, I'm planning on enjoying the show regardless of the differences from the books. The magic about the world of The Wheel of Time is that time is cyclical. According to any Aes Sedai, "The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again." The TV show is just another turning of the Wheel as it comes around to the Third Age, again. In an earlier turn of the Third Age, Thom Merrilin played the flute and the harp. In this turn of the Third Age, Thom plays a guitar, and maybe he pl…

From this: It looks like we will get the backstory of the breaking and many other things through bonus content on Amazon Prime. That's pretty neat.

Guess Rafe was good to his word at being a feminist: Marin, not Bran, was running the inn - not that they weren't co-owners in the books, but he was an afterthought on TV with no mention of him being mayor. And definitely a Women's Circle with no sign of a Town Council. During the Bel Tine attack, a group of women isolate and take out a trolloc. Nynaeve takes one out on her own. Perrin only takes one out with the help of Laila. Where are the rest of the village men - cowering in terror somewhere? When Perrin and Egwene are directed to the Tinkers, Ila takes the role of Seeker not Raen. The darkfriend that first challenges Rand (and forces hi…

An idea came to me as I was thinking of the episode to come: In the books we of course never see Logain's gentling because the party is at that point in Fal Dara, or perhaps still in the Blight. Indeed we never see the Aes Sedai gentle any male channeller. In the series however with the party ending up in Tar Valon, it seems likely they will be there at the same time as Logain. Which means they may witness the trial/gentling. Now this is interesting for a few reasons. It puts the viewers face to face with the terrible consequences of the Dark One's backlash on saidin, even millenia after the breaking. And instead of the Red Ajah cruelt…

What was so wrong about Perrin, as he was written?? What is so wrong about being 'that' kid who grows up a little bit bigger and stronger than the other kids? Growing up with all the adults telling you 'Be careful, you could hurt them.' Or 'Be careful, you could break that.' Growing up constantly being told to restrain yourself so you don't scare anyone or hurt anybody. So you grow up introverted and quiet, thoughtful to a fault. Until you find blacksmithing. An outlet for you to let yourself go, fully using your strength shaping iron and steel. Was it too difficult to adapt his character to the visual medium? Or did you believe your audienc…

  7. This thread exists for users who were lucky enough enough to go to the Premiere on November 15th, a place to discuss what they saw. This thread has two very simple rules. #1. Until November 19th, make sure to put show spoilers in spoiler code. You can do this by highlighting text, and pressing this button. We won't require this on the other show-threads when they unlock on the 19th. This is to help protect people from accidental spoilers. Spoiler Spoilers look like this. #2. Outside of spoilers, feel free to talk about what you thought about the show. Whether you liked or disliked it, that's up to you, just be resp…

Opening credits for episode 3 had 17 producers. Seems excessive and probably why the show is the way it is. I don't watch a lot of TV, but I have never seen this many before (or maybe just didn't notice). Is this normal for TV or movies?

  9. One thing I noticed in the show is that when they mention Egwene might become a wisdom in the show she said and Rand couldn't be together because wisdoms were not allowed to have families or get married. Maybe I'm misremembering this from the books but I don't remember any rule about wisdoms not being able to have husbands/partners in fact I seem to recall it was generally accepted that Egwene would train to be a wisdom and become betrothed to Rand before they leave Emond's Field. The position of Wisdom is not part of any religion or order so I cannot see the value to vows of chastity or celibacy. Am I getting this wrong and if not does anyone know why they might have mad…

The seals on the Dark One's prison will not survive the night's festivities... Have some approximations of oosquai (left) and Tam's brandy (right) along with appropriately spicy Aiel snacks: Gave my wife a reason to smile this morning. I'm surprised she stopped laughing long enough to take the pictures - but she claims to love my geekiness. I'm not so sure... Will pick up a Bloomin' Onion and some Chinese food closer to show time. What are the rest of you doing?

  11. Am I quibbling? Yes, I'm quibbling. Moiraine says the Dragon was reborn around 20 years ago. Per the timeline provided on the WOT Prime Video page, the Dragon was reborn in 978, and the show takes place in 998, so about 20 years is correct. But Rand, Mat, and Perrin are already 19 going on 20 in the books. So they are maybe months older at most. Egwene has been aged up to their age from 17/18, true. Nynaeve has been aged up from 24 to 25/26, true. But I keep seeing all this talk of the characters being aged up. How old did people think Rand was?

I know this has been discussed and speculated about, but what kind or sex and nudity is (1) actually in the episodes viewed to date (feel free to use spoiler tags - whatever), and (2) planned for future episodes? Is the TV-14 rating going to stick? I’d like to watch this with my kids ages 8-14 and fantasy violence doesn’t bother us. A bare ass or offscreen sex doesn’t bother me, either. But I would never let them watch the sex and frontal nudity in GOT. So if that’s on deck, I’d rather not get them started (because I’m assuming they’ll enjoy the first few episodes quite a bit).

I would love to know what everyone else is planning on Friday! I know there is a wide mix of excitement and apprehension on these forums (I'm somewhere in the middle myself) but I find as The Day draws closer, a slowly surmounting wave of palpable nervous-energy and glorious giddiness is building up in my soul. I have been reading WoT since I was 16. It has the primo spot on my bookshelf. I never would have started writing myself if I had not stumbled across The Eye of the World, working in an old, independent bookstore after-hours back in high school. I have been following the production like a creepy ex-boyfriend since before there was a production. So what…

IGN posted this 2 minute clip https://www.ign.com/videos/the-wheel-of-time-season-1-exclusive-official-clip-ign-first Spoiler It is actually quite interesting with the ramifications here. Nynaeve's mentor went to the White Tower and was rejected because she was a peasant or was she rejected because she couldn't actually channel despite what she thought? We know the mentor dies, if she could channel she would begin to slow and from the way Nynaeve states "She remember until the day she died" it sounds like she died of old age. Spoiler I could be reading to much into this but I would think it woul…

  17. So I'mma tag this with book and TV show spoilers just incase we want to say stuff that some might consider spoilers. But starting tomorrow Nov 1, 2021 Lets start counting down things we love about the Wheel Of Time. Sort of like the 12 Days of Christmas but to countdown to our new show. We'll Call it "19 Days in Nesan", lmao Today’s goal: 18 annnnd 19 DAY 1: Padan Fain - This was a tough call. All entries had merit but props to @Rand the Plumber with a super persuasive argument! Day 1 Honorable Mentions: Bela, Rand's Flute, Ba'alzamon, Sullin's Soup, Mat's Fated Marriage, Lan Killing Demandred. DAY 2: Choeda…

I have been wondering how many of the things RJ (the new one ?) has said in the past have been seen to be true (or at least Aes Sedai true) in the show. I know he has said book readers will know immediately who the Dragon is, yet people think it may have changed. Has anything else he said turned out differently from how we expected? 1. I have plans for both of these [Prologue, and prequel scenes from New Spring], but you'll unfortunately have to wait for the show to see :) [Any ideas?] 2. I really like Logain and plan to not only retain, but expand, his role in series. [We know this is true] 3. Que…

  19. Hey everyone! I am going to share my experiences of the Tower of London special event. We had some unique events (I think!) unlike some US screenings and a DM user requested I tell you all about it, so here I am! I won tickets for my guest and myself after entering the contest via Twitter. We are both Scotland based so spent quite a long time just getting there; thankfully I had family I could stay with in the night, and my Tuesday class was online. We arrived at 5:30 and got to see attendees from the premiere the day before, including the fantastic hosts such as KritterXD (Egwene al'Vere), Nae'blis, Daniel Greene, Innkeeper Hatch from…

I know it was posted on the News page, but I'm curious who is going to any of the early premier events on the 15th. I'm dragging my fiancé to the showing in King of Prussia (near Philadelphia for those not from the area) and I am very excited. Anyone else able to get passes, either in the US or abroad?

One of the more intriguing aspects of the TV show is how broad of an audience Amazon will go for. I think the possibilities realistically range from TV-14 to TV-MA. TV-PG (the next 'lower' rating) calls for minimal violence, which I just don't think will work. The difference between these basically comes down to two things: nudity and gore. While TV-14 will have some blood and violence, TV-MA will have realistic violence and gore. TV-14 shows will have brief, "tasteful" nudity and implied sexual situations (think side boob and strategic placement of blankets during sex scenes) while TV-MA can include full frontal nudity and more graphic sexual depictions. …

  22. What I keep coming back to is this: If your concern is that they are making the show "woke" and; Your definition of "woke" is seeing lots of different cultures and people represented, the portrayal of strong aggressive women who don't fit traditional gender stereotypes, and the inclusion of gay and lesbian characters and sexual relationships; But you love RJ's worldbuilding. How do you not understand that Wheel of Time was "woke" when it was written? There are tons and tons of cultural differences in RJ's Wheel of Time; There are strong, aggressive women who don't fit traditional gender stereotypes in RJ's Wheel of Time; …

  23. Started by Guire,

I went down youtube rabbit hole last night and it got me thinking about how I hope certain passages from book will look and feel. The trailer music has a very Westworld mixed up with Avenger's music feel to it. I like this a lot but hope various scenes and cultures have a more traditional culture feel. One of the videos I watched was Hu Wolf Totem. I hope Henney is using this as a hype video every time he has to get in warrior mode. Also I have always envisioned Aiel warrior singing as a military call and response. I think doing wash the spears as a varant of mongolian throat singing like HU does for their songs would be amazing. The entire Mongolian bik…

I am going to go with Perrin and Egwene after Shadar Logoth up to reunion with group. We will get wolfbrother, Tinkers, and rat bastard White Cloaks. I think Perrin will be early fan favorite until others get more into their arcs. Nyneave's arc also may be really good with apparent acceleration of her arc. Also major actor cast as Tam. Will Tam maybe become more important in earlier seasons since everything is getting crunched? A Tam arc with flashbacks to Blood Snow and Aiel War may be great TV that wasnt in book.

  25. Do we have any leads on what the changes were (from print to screen) that Brandon Sanderson 'offered suggestions on'? Someone recently mentioned the Whitecloak designs on another thread... I feel like that may be small enough bones to ignore for BS, but it got me curious as to if there had been any sleuthing or generally accepted ideas going on out there. And please forgive me if this has already been asked/discussed ad nauseum, I've been away from the forums for a long long while (a decade already, really?).

  26. At the 9 second mark we get to see them golden eyes. Lots of good Perrin action in general. Oh yeah Rand and Mat are there as well.

  27. I'm not going to get into all the infighting that's occurring when discussing certain issues that I can't name for fear of my post being denied publication. I just have a general question that I feel sorta relates to the issues being "discussed" . I haven't heard any mention of the Prophecies of the Dragon in any promotional material for the show. Can anyone else point to an instance where they are mentioned that I missed ? If the Prophecies aren't in the series AT ALL , that means that the discussions/arguments are meaningless since those Prophecies have multiple areas that are specific as to aspects of the Dragon

  30. We've had a deluge of promotional materials these past few weeks, so much that most of us can barely keep up. With less than two weeks until the show airs, what are your predictions about what we'll see in season 1? How do you think some of the changes we've seen hinted at will play out in practice? What obscure detail of the videos or images do you have wild theories about? For this thread, I'd like to ask that we keep value judgements and our own feelings about whether changes are good or not out of the discussion. This isn't about debating whether something is okay or acceptable. It's about speculating about what we think will happen, trying to understand w…
