Wheel of Time TV Show

For all discussion related to Amazon Prime's Wheel of Time TV show.

  1. It's worth a watch. This is the boost of encouragement I needed. It seems very clear that Season One will be centered on the question of "who is the Dragon?" It also seems clear that the Dragon is going to be very much an unknown quantity. "Is the Dragon a savior or a destroyer?" is going to provide the subtext. And to me, this hints at something I have advocated for a long time - structuring the tv show so the audience genuinely does not know whether Rand is a force for good. At Natrin's Barrow, I've always wanted new audiences to be convinced that Rand must be stopped. Essentially, that Egwene is right in not wanting to destroy the seals. Follow my logi…

  2. .. but not in any of the trailers (that I've seen). Nor did any of the trailers show Lews Therin being "turned into" Dragonmount -- which I think that would make for an impressive bit of CGI to "show off", yes? Instead the whole thing may start with Moiraine swearing her oaths**... BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING!! (While it would be unfair to assume this from the trailers, it did look to me like she swore the oaths, Lan asked "Where to next?" and they headed off to the Two Rivers.) If THIS is how the show starts and not with the Prologue (like the GoT show did -- with its own equally-amazing prologue, I mean -- almost word for word) that's probably where I'll stop wat…

  3. Started by Skipp,

So people have been seeing ads for WoT that have new content. Some people have been awesome and have started to record them. Here is a quick teaser for Nynaeve with context for the epic braid flip!.

  4. One of the recent rumors, fueled by the little promotional blurbs they released earlier this week, involves Mat's backstory. The bothersome lines are these: his mischievous smile and witty retorts simply distract from the question constantly burdening him: Is he a good person — and how would he know? His parents were far from role models, yet he fears himself fated to follow their path. I have to confess that I've had pretty negative feelings about this since I heard it. I really like the Cauthons - Abell especially - and don't really want to see him turned into some sort of abusive dad. And does Mat doubt that he's a good person. This …

  5. So, after participating in a few discussions on the WoT TV adaptation, I wanted to open a thread for discussion on a topic which I think underlies much of the discord surrounding Amazon's WoT. Do we want people who watch Amazon's WoT (non-book readers) to be inspired to go back and read and enjoy the original books? Should this adaptation be a way to bring a wave of new appreciation to Robert Jordan's books or not? Much has been said about the topic of whether or not the books should be "updated" to match modern sensibilities. In my opinion, the show's goal should be to reach people who would love the books just as they are but somehow or another…

The Tweeter of Chaos has dropped several new portrait posters of out favourite characters. Unfortunately these are spread out over 3 tweets. Love the style of these.

  7. Started by WhiteVeils,

This came out today, and I had a few thoughts and questions. https://twitter.com/FANologyPV/status/1455928084230598658?s=20https://twitter.com/FANologyPV/status/1455928084230598658?s=20 I figured people would freak out, and say 'changing things for no reason'. So I thought I'd pick out what is changed: Moiraine says: The world is broken. Many, many years ago, men who were born with great power believed they could cage darkness itself...the arrogance. When they failed, the seas boiled, mountains were swallowed up, cities burned. And the women of the Aes Sedai were left to pick up the pieces. These women remembered one thing above all else. The man…

  8. Okay, once again let's evaluate the evidence in front of us rather than leaping to conclusions. Let's all concede two baseline facts: (1) There is an ambiguity built into this whole "Who is the Dragon" question reflected in the promotional materials released yesterday as to the gender of the Dragon. I'll further concede that the ambiguity is intentional. (2) We have yet to see the entire show in context and so have no actual idea of how anything will be depicted on screen. Now, let's examine the remaining evidence and decide what it tells us. Moiraine "heard rumors of four young people who potentially matched the pr…

  13. My god. My greatest fear for the show is materializing.

  14. Started by Elgee,

Has there been any talk of how they're going to handle accents? If we look at the Emonds Fielders, they're Dutch, English, Irish, Australian, and New Zealander (main lot). Are they going to have them all speak with one accent, like they tried with the Northeners in GoT? If so, which accent?

  15. Better? Whatever. Or What have they done to my Wheel of Time?

  16. Started by nsmallw,

So excited for season 1 of The Wheel of Time TV Show. I just had a thought this morning that I'm sure many others have had well before my shower epiphany lol. Am I correct in thinking that there aren't any Forsaken in Season 1 ? I havn't seen any actors cast to play Ishamael, Aginor and Bathemel. If anyone has any different information on this please let me know and also I wonder how the Forsaken will be intertwined in the show. Let me know what you folks think. Thanks!

  19. Okay I don't much go in for conspiracy theories but we know Amazon is developing WoT and they are developing a LoTR series. Part of me wonders if Amazon is hedging their bets and will wait to see which series performs best with audiences and continue with the more successful one while cancelling the runner up. I don't have any evidence of this but we know both shows are costing a ton of money so it seems obvious there is a lot of pressure on them to perform well neither can afford to be niche. Personally I am looking forward to both shows but I am worried one will end up overshadowing the other and if one does significantly better how long the other will last?

November 19th is the day. Do we know the time? 12:01am? 8pm? What time zone? I need to make plans...

  23. Started by Maximillion,

Does anyone know if they are doing any kind of companion show for WoT - as they did with GoT? Think it would be a good idea, especially for fans who ave not read the books. There is a lot of complexity to the story that could be discussed / explained. Can imagine the set of that being the Winespring Inn ?

  25. Started by Dedicated,

Maybe it's my own personal experiences from over the past 6 years. Maybe it's my distrust of the establishment, the government or large groups of people. But I am not looking forward to this TV adaption. I think it's a cash grab trying to bank off the success of Game of Thrones and the creators don't care at all about this series which is really wonderful and deserves to be done properly. The production looks "nice". And by nice I mean expensive, but no one invests into a project without expecting a high payback and that expectation is largely based on the success of other book to TV adaptions (many of which are failures). Even with Game of Thrones I stopped watching afte…

  26. Started by David V,

Seems a lot of people are up in arms about Thom not having a mustache, has anyone counted the references in the books to how many times Thom "knuckles" his mustache? I think people are upset because RJ took time to mention the appearance. Seems trivial to me, but I get it.

  27. Started by CaddySedai,

So the design is gorgeous. But I wanted to highlight a few things. First... the oil lamps.... SO bloody cool! They look right proper locally made (not ornate, just getting the job done from local pottery. 8 wicks to provide a ton of light and a nice little carry handle on top. Look at that columnwork. Love it. Its what one would expect to see in stonebuilt taverns. You wouldn't do much in the way of carving into the stone walls so you use the pillars to add that flair. Finally, a shot of a great serpent ring in HD. So different...i truly hope when they make these they choose like...star cut stones so they …
