So everyone saw the city in Ep 8, some of you noticed it matched the ruins from Ep 1? What other ancient artifacts did you notice? The Portal Stones? That bridge/causeway from Ep 5? someone said the mining village was mining metal, not ore!

I know a lot of people were frustrated by Egwene during the book series but she was one of my favourite characters. I only say this to preface the below… I have significant reservations about the actress and her ability to hold scenes throughout the proposed 8 seasons. Whilst she started ok and looks the part, the longer it has gone the more her acting has deteriorated. Her accent keeps dropping, she is very much chewing the scenery when she has any emotional moments but the part that really hit home for me was when she was crying next to Perrin in Fal Dara and did the telegraphed her to the side lurch and then launch onto the man’s shoulder move. Yo…

Core: - Rafe Judkins (e01,e08 + showrunner all episodes) - Celine Song (e05 + staff writer all episodes) - Michael Clarkson (e03 + story editor all episodes) - Paul Clarkson (e03 + story editor all episodes) Guest: - Amanda Kate Shuman (e02,e07) - Justine Juel Gillmer (e06) - Katherine B. McKenna (e07) - Dave Hill (e04) Episodes 4 and 7 seem to be the highest rated, while episodes 1, 5 and 8 seem to be the lowest rated. Notably 4 & 7 were written by guest writers while 1,5,8 were written by core writers. One solution is to remove the core writing team and ask Amanda & Dave to s…

Will WoT keep the GoT structure and make a season per book? From my point of view there is much more going on in one WoT book than in a GoT book. I'm not sure you can pack it all into one season. However 14 seasons seems like a huge commitment from Amazon prime.

Just putting this out as a hypothetical question with the benefit of hindsight. We know that the departure of Barney and problems with covid caused many issues for the end of the show and this is most apparent in episode 8. Ideally you might say it would have been better to delay the show as a whole until all of these things could be resolved but perhaps that would not be feasible. However, would it have been better to release the show but end the season with episode 7 instead of episode 8 and make episode 8 the first episode of season 2? I know this would mean we wouldn't get a big fanfare ending but I think people might have been more happy with episode 7 as a stopping …

So a bit of grumbling came up about Tigraine being unveiled in Blood Snow scene from trailer. Lots of ideas floated about subject. It dawned on me that maybe veils other than shoufa being tucked under face may just disappear because of Covid and masking. Showrunners may have decided that seeing actors faces is better but also they don't want to have to deal with any weird blowback from having face coverings associated with death in current world climate. I know we have overly discussed gender issues and woke writing in other threads. Oddly interviews and trailers have made me think these changes will be minor and probably no big deal if writing and acting is well don…

Yes. Was the Book stating/implying that the "gentling" regime was a discriminatory power play on the part of the AS? Or was it clearly in the camp that these madmen would destroy the World, not just the AS structure? If the latter, is Amazon shifting from that side?

What supporting characters do you really want to see come to life? The ones I could think of for people to choose from but obviously are not limited to: Gaul, Talmanes, Elyas, Noal, Galad, Cadsuane, Amys, Bair, Verin, Hurin, Juilin, and Tam. I think all of these have the ability to really be audience favorites if done properly, but for some reason I lean towards Noal and Talmanes.

This topic came up in tangent with Lan's portrayal and I thought it warranted it's own discussion. What do you want to see from weapon skills and battles? Wheel of Time sets up the imagery for some epic weapon fights. The way blademasters move is portrayed almost like poetry. The whirling and spinning of staves gets brought up too. This will be harder to portray than we think if we don't want a very limited set of weapons, and as episode 4 shows us, they aren't doing that. The sword forms and the way a blademaster works in Wheel of Time is very evocative of Kenjutsu and its attendant styles. It's based on the Katana, though it works with any sin…

I for one can't do it anymore. I can understand some of the changes that were made to speed up the season but good old RJ would be rolling in his grave. I was trying not to get so angry but every episode makes my head want to explode. What do you think?

The comments and speculation on the part of those who haven't read the books before. The greatest speculation is of course about who the Dragon is, and I love the "Four/Five-in-One", "Mat is", "Nynaeve is", "Rand is", "Egwene is" etc theories, which sometimes cover ground not seen until later books. The best one (for me, at least) is the application of a Bayesian analysis to who the DR might be, whose author gets massive points from a like-minded soul like me. But really, almost all the non-book readers seem to be having a good time regardless of whether they're concentrating on the Dragon.

#1] My hot hot take ... probably wrong on this, mostly it's a guess because of how fast they increased Lan/Nyn's relationship. Spoiler Moiraine goes up against Lanfear at the Eye ... And You know! #2] We are finally gonna get Padan Fain ... doing something. Unlikely, but hopeful. #3] We're going to get Tarwin's Gap. Guaranteed. #4] Egwene is going to "save" Rand at the Eye ... yeah... We can't have a guy be the hero (men suck, women are awesome in WoTTv remember?!) #5] We're gonna get the Green man. Hopefully... #6] Still no one has commented on Rand's heron marked sword (even in the b…

Let’s make a thread for this. Personally, I like that they are still a couple in 998 NE. You can see the beginnings of them drifting apart from a physical/ romantic relationship in New Spring, but I think it makes more sense that they still have this intense relationship with each other since they cannot confide in anyone else about the Dragon.

I'm reading a lot of criticism, some of it legitimate. "this character arc is cut short" "the worldbuilding is too sketchy" "this thing is not well explained" "this interaction between characters is not explored enough". And the answer is always the same: "tv has limited time, the story has to be adapted for it". Other tv adaptation of epic fantasy suffer from the same issues. The witcher has much sketchier worldbuilding than the books, and it's already much easier to adapt because it has less characters. LotR has virtually no worldbuilding, just a bunch of elements that are randomly introduced in the plot; there's very little of the vast world created by…

Twas the month before Christmas, and all through the West, The Edmond's Field Five had just started their quest. To get on TV, they changed more than a smidge, like Who is the Dragon, and a wife who gets fridged. The very first scenes showed a man and the Reds, and our non-virgin heroes in each others' beds. Changes galore for the world to explain, Like a self killing warder and the dragon Logain. That wasn't enough, so the changes kept on; Now Lan's got a smile and Moiraine's with Siuan. From the Rivers to Logoth they ran like a flash, Mat still finds the dagger and starts acting too rash. A Darkfriend in Four K…

I am sorry everybody but watching E7 brought back old memories and I have to rant. I would be very interested in thoughts from the community. First of all in the TEOTW book when the gang comes out of the waygate and ride towards Fal Dara they start passing deserted farms. It turns out everybody is evacuated to the city. In the show there is nothing and it looks like a desert around Fal Dara. So my question is where does their food come from? Did the Vulcans come and give them replicator technology? In days of yore, there had to be lots of farms around cities to feed the inhabitants. You don't have airplanes to fly apples from New Zealand. This is a co…

So a lot has been made of the changes people are not happy with but I wonder what story threads do you hope will be cut or significantly changed from Book to TV? I will start with a controversial one Padin Fain/Ordeith/Jeraal Mordeth. Either cut the story thread and have Fain killed off early, or, when it comes to the end make the final face off with Matt far more dangerous and actually have some sort of pay off. In the books Ordeith is presented as a threat to equal the dark one, potentially able to destroy the Forsaken themselves. As a threat he is there, ever present, and then, in a climax almost as disappointing as the destruction of the Nigh…

Before we go much further it may be productive to define our terms around Plot and character issues. If this has already been done in the book section perhaps somebody would kindly copy the pertinent material over. The following is my attempt at a definition for some of the potential issues. I will use examples, some of them made up, others real. I will be exaggerating to make the point clear. Plot Hole - This is a disconnect in the plot where you can't get from A to B without chemical help. An example from the books is when Perrin is trying to rescue Matts mom and sisters in TSR and they are scouting the Whitecloak camp. Perrin asks "Master al'Vere will…

Now that The Witcher has dropped its second season I thought we could compare them? I’ve only seen a few episodes, but I would say they both have their pros and cons. In the end I lean toward Wheel of Time personally. This being said Henry Cavill does a wonderful job with his role. you can really tell how invested he is. Also, Geralt kind of comes off as Lan should have been emotionally to me. Trollocs > knock off Beauty and the Beast monster. I laughed when I saw the boar/bear monster.

Hi all, back when SW prequels and LOTR came out Vogue (Im pretty sure thats the right magazine) had a feature with the lead make up artist and the full face maps for both Padme and Arwen were published with specific product names and colors allowing all the fans to exactly replicate thier looks if we chose. Has anyone published the face maps for any of the WOT characters/actors - specifically Moiraine? I want her lipstick and I cant figure out what it is.
