The footrace ~ First Competition of the Aiel Day of Games The festivities had started at dawn, when the relentless sun was still faint in the eastern sky and the wetlander peddlers could still move about, without dizzy spells or sweating so profusely they spoiled their wares. The gaishain had been hard at work long before and the scents of the feast later to come permeated the valley and heightened the anticipation of everyone. Already the Aiel of Dragonmount Hold had diminished the stores of the peddlers – the books had gone first, for high and heated prices. Next the many tapestries or rugs the merchants had brought. Finally the jewelry and uncut stones, …

  2. Elyssa walked through the halls of the Tower smoothing her dresses a bit as she walked. She hated how some of her dresses got so much static in them just from walking. Today she had choosen to wear one that was a lighter blue with a bit of pale yellow around the collar. Her slippers barely made any noise on the floors as she hurried back to her apartments. She'd been out all day enjoying the weather and having a picnic with Dafydd in the Ogier's Garden. She hadn't done that in some months with how busy she had gotten. She also hadn't had much time to spend with her fellow sisters and wondered how they had all been. There was one in particular that she was concerned with. …

  4. Started by Elyssa,

A rough wind swayed the usually steady branches of the tall oaks in the Warders’ Yard. The darkened clouds that raced across the sky let only single strands of pearly light sporadically pierce their gloomy cover. At times it seemed as though the two were at war, the clouds and the sun, the dark and the light. With each radiant breach came a shadowy cover, a constant game of move and counter-move. Watching this heavenly game Calen waited for what was to be his third mentor at Warders’ Yards since he had arrived. The young Malkieri, distinguished by the braided leather Hadori on his brow, was looking forward to meeting this Mateo Ashden, a Tairen he had been told, and o…

  5. Dafydd took the early watch, so that he could get some sleep and still wake early enough to catch fish for everyone's breakfast. Four days since they had left Tar Valon and nothing of any note had happened. He had ridden, proud, at Elyssa's side, watching the suroundings constantly for any sign of a threat, although there had been none. Elyssa had been uneasy about something, or perhaps lacking in confidence. He knew that there were other sisters from her Ajah with them, and she had mentioned, in a roundabout way, that she felt a little like she was still only Accepted in their presence. He had done what he could to reassure her, but it had made little difference, althoug…

Talyn walked around the training yards watching everyone and noticed a woman practicing her forms alone. Shadow Dancing was something many people did around here, it was a good way to train and practice your forms. She was doing well from what Talyn could see, she was still early in her training. Her demeanor gave him the impression she was not just a trainee, perhaps a noble? People came from all walks of life to train in the yards, he had a noble friend and he himself was mearly a farm boy. Things had definately changed since coming to the White Tower, it was hard keeping secrets from this many Light fools, but it was good practice. He hoped one day to be bonded to …

  7. Phaedra rubbed her temples, the dark hair framing her face was pushed back by frantic fingers trying to find a way to alleviate the headache. Phaedra knew there was no time left to worry and rose to dress and prepare for the meeting, it would start in an hour and she had personally seen to it that everyone would be present. Everyone had to be present, for none had an excuse as she had personally handed out the invitations. The deep gray dress with the silver stars embroidered down the side would set off the right tone for her speech. She brushed her long strands of hair and heard the knock that showed a gray-haired servant even before the woman had knocked. Phaedra had no…

  9. Talyn arrived at the stables early. It would be a two day trip to Redfern where the competition was to take place. It had been awhile since he'd been to the fair itself, and this would be the first time he'd be able to participate, his father would never have allowed him to before. Thanks to growing up and to Cari for sending him away to do so. Talyn wondered if he'd see any of his family or friends in Redfern this year. He hoped so. Talyn readied Sandstorm, his sandy mare. She would be the star of this show, he'd never be able to do it with out here. Talyn hoped they would do well. He readied his trusty steed and made sure she had all the proper racing gear sto…

Hey all, i was just wondering if you could shed some light on something for me, i was considering making a freelander charectar who is an Admiral, but to first look at this i did not want to make a stereotypical seaman as they usually are portrayed. So finally down to my question: What nations in Randland have Navies? all of them, or no?

  11. Lavinya balanced her tray as she made her way grudgingly through the tower, the twisting corridors making it difficult to see anyone coming her way. More than once, she had to juggle to prevent her tray from spilling it's contents onto the floor. She cursed under her breath, not for the first time, as she and Gaiya were forced to drop curtseys for passing Aes Sedai, who barely paid them any heed. You can be sure they would notice if they had refrained from offering the proper respect. Gaiya walked at her side, balancing her tray just as precariously. Lavinya tried to avoid her gaze altogether, though she still took smug satisfaction in the purple bruises on her neck.…

    - - - - - Sovald looked around, waiting for Ryen. The boy would come -- he wouldn't be late. He was learning, at least. This weapon hadn't shattered -- not yet. Sovald picked up a sword, tossing it lightly. It had been some time. A very long time. But he could still remember standing in the ring, practice sword in hand, watching Andular demonstrate the forms. Of course, he had seen Andular do the forms after that.... quite painfully demonstrating them, actually. And even before that, Daimian. The sword flowing so easily, the man's feet as he demonstrated carefully and fluidly to Sovald exactly what to do. Yes, it had been some time. And there Ryen was now. Sovald dropped …

(ATTN THROM AND CORIN) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A smile burst on to Throm’s face as he turned to meet her gaze. He leaned back, since Alyria was still so close to him and started to speak. "Certainly my dear. Shall we skip out through the kitchen to avoid notice?" Alyria could not speak; the words seemed to be caught in her throat. She gave instead, an eager nod and listened to his plan. "You wait here a moment while I go first then follow." Alyria once again nodde…

[Alyria] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Raisa wasn't particularily fond of training Accepted, but an assignment was an assignment and, frankly, she'd trained worse than Accepted. It wasn't that the girl was female that annoyed her, but rather that she was an Accepted of the White Tower. Raisa hadn't ever been sure how she was supposed to treat these girls, though had eventually decided to treat them almost exactly as she would treat her mentees - with maybe a little more respe…

(Attn: Wynders aka Big Sis) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sitting beneath a tree in the warders yard, Deneira looked at the note in her hands again. It had been slipped under her door, and she had had to ask someone else to read it for her, as she could only read her own name. It had that on there, so she was certain it was for her. Going over to the tower, she went inside, and stopped the first girl she saw. Asking what it read, the girl qu…

  22. Tiassale had often come to the Ogier Grove during the first years of her Sisterhood, seeking not only quiet and solitude but a respite from overpowering and often stifling atmosphere of the White Tower. She pointed it out to Mysti now, soaring over the city and then led the girl in the opposite direction, toward the Shining Walls, another awe inspiring sight. They explored Tar Valon at length, visiting each of the six bridges and marveling at the fantastic shapes and carvings the Ogier had wrought. They visited the fish markets but left fairly quickly, wrinkling their noses at the smell. The docks were swarming with ships from all over the continent offloading their g…
