Introduce Yourself

If you're new to Dragonmount, stop in and introduce yourself!

  1. Started by SharSheen Veren,

A pleasure to join Dragonmount indeed. Introduced to the books in 2002 and have read thru another time 2016-2019. May pickup again as winter here usually sparks that particular interest. Really enjoying the show as well. Have introduced that to my wife and she is really into as well. Look forward to learning more about the world and "meeting" others. Peace, Stephan

  2. Started by Reader,

Since there is a forum for it, let me introduce myself. I'm old enough to remember reading Tolkien, Feist and various others in the 80s. Robert Jordan, Glen Cook, GRRM and many others after that. I like epic fantasy, intelligent sci fi, but not limited to that. I've seen so many book adaptions I've been disapointed with I think I have become immune, whether it be Stephen King, Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum or John Grisham. I really did like The Shawshank Redeption though. It will take a lot for me to stop watching WoT even if it does turn out to be disapointing. I'm hoping it will not. I don't feel my opinions on it are useful. It's sort of in the ball park …

Hi all, I went to join, and found I already had an account and apparently made a single comment in 2013 that I have zero recollection of, but I suppose does sound like something I'd say ? I'm in my mid-30s, and started reading around 1999. Since then, I've reread numerous times (I would always reread the series to the end before a new book came out so that everything was fresh), but hadn't picked it up since finishing AMoL. Started reading again a couple years ago with a sibling who hadn't read it before, and that turned out to be a timely decision with the show coming out! I've sort of missed old internet forum culture, and have been e…

  4. Started by Cosmic Gifted,

I just joined a few minutes ago. You can call me CG for now! I am a new fan to the series, I must admit I had not heard of it until the tv show started recently. But, I am loving it. It's fantastic, I really like the whole concept and the world and the characters and the magic, I can't wait to get into it all more. ?

  5. Started by pyrusmole,

I first picked up The Eye of the World about a decade ago when I left for college. I started with the audiobook since I needed something to listen during the long drives back home and when walking to classes in the morning. The story of 5 kids leaving home for the first time really struck a cord and I was instantly hooked. I ended up buying the rest of the audiobooks and reading along with copies from the local library of my college town. I've always "liked" fantasy but WOT is the first fantasy series I've ever loved. It might be the first book series I've ever loved. I really liked Harry Potter (I was in high school when the last movies were coming out) but it hasn't mar…

  6. Started by Frenata,

It's astonishing how much the TV show has brought fans out of their slumber, and I'm no exception. *Apparently* I made an account here nearly 10 years ago but never posted, but after a few weeks of lurking and a few days of posting, I figured I should introduce myself. It was 1992 or 1993 I first became aware of Jordan's work while browsing in a bookstore with some friends, and I think it was "The Great Hunt" cover that caught my eye. I bought "The Eye of the World" and that was that. Other writers I was reading a lot at the same time were Asimov, Herbert, and Eddings, but Jordan struck a unique blend of sweeping worldbuilding and an intense focus on character…

  7. Started by JackieQ,

Hey everyone! I made an account over a year ago, but forgot about it. I figured since the show is coming out that I'd try to be more active! I read all the books over the course of a few months last year while I was working at the hospital. It was a nice escape while COVID was in full swing. I immediately connected with the characters, and this quickly became my favourite series of all time! Excited to discuss the show with some people! 2020 was far too late to be involved in book discussions haha! Cheers!

  8. Hello to all you wonderful WoT fans young and old alike. I am Calvin Gulwin now but some 25+ years ago I was Calvin Coshere. I also was in the RP world back then as on of the Chicago Aiel, and a Warder. I met up with many people from here back then even went to a dragoncon with a group in the mid 90’s. Since then I got married we got dogs and a cat and since have separated. I’d love to get to know the people from DM that are here now I look forward to it

Hello all, Seems like all you need is a TV series and old accounts come alive like re-hydrated seamonkeys. It's nice to see it still works--IIRC there was a great purge around 2007-2009 that killed my old-old account. -- dwn

  10. Started by Nors,

Hey all! It's nice to finally be here. I say finally because I read the first 3 books years ago and am finally getting back into them. It's interesting diving back into the story 10 years on with different sensibilities. Cheers. N.

  11. Started by Theseus78,

I never made an account back in the day, just lurked, but I've been reading since just before Knife of Dreams (very vivid memories of teasing my friend who had been reading for a decade before that about having to wait a whole month before KoD came out). Re-read the whole series with every new book, and started a re-read before the show. My wife read the books along with us, and we've gotten our son to read the books (he's slowed down during the slog), and trying to get our daughter re-engaged (she loves the silmarillion for crying out loud, she should have no problems)

  12. I guess this is where I tell a tale about myself. I first read Eye of the World in 1994 or so. I was turned on to it by my step son. I was instantly hooked. After he quit kicking out books every year I took to re-reading the whole series every time a new one came out. I am currently rereading the entire series and am just into The Shadow Rising. I am blessed to be able to read quite fast. I love the story and I love the books but I think RJ missed his golden opportunity to have written the greatest fantasy series ever, including the current champion LOTR (IMHO). I hope this isn't blasphemy on this site but what prevents RJ/BS from the number one spot is story bloa…

  13. Started by Michelle Knanun,

Am new to WOT and this site. I am completely enthralled by the books and the series. Must say, at this point I am loving the books even more. Reading book one, about to start chapter 9 and it is GREAT! One of the most interesting things so far it the correlation between time in the books and now. No spoilers but the correlation is awesome. Can’t wait to dive deep with ya’ll.

  14. Started by Damon,

Feel like a dinosaur popping back in to say hi. Don't even think I was an adult when I first started causing havoc here, pretty sure we were still waiting on CoT or KoD at the time, hope y'all are doing well. Got a lot of catching up to do. Not too sure how much RP is going on around here now that we're all old farts but I can still make some trouble again if y'all are up for it. Edit: cringe, oh man, my sig is showing its age

  15. The show made me nostalgic for Wheel of Time, so I decided to swing by and see if the mount still existed. I was around here quite a bit in 2001, very active on the old IRC chat. I don't know who's left from that old (ancient?) guard, but thought I'd stop in and say hi.

No surprise for old members that most of the new ones are here to primarily discuss the show. I have read the whole series once and am currently rereading it. Can’t say I’m in love with the show yet, but the books are my favorite fantasy series and has some of my favorite characters across fiction (Rand al’Thor especially). Hopefully with this show trending, more and more people will come to this forum and discuss not just the show but also the books. I’ve read a lot from the forums in the past but just never made an account, but, I’m finally here.

  18. Started by Khemy,

Common discussion in my house: Wife: "Are you reading that mega-series again?" Me: Why, as a matter of fact I am. But she will be watching with me tonight when I binge the released episodes. I am hopeful, but nervous. "Don't screw this up!" is pretty much where I landed. But I can tell already that there are somethings the show-runners do not understand about the series by the changes they have made. My college roommate, who introduced me to the series back in the 90's, went to a RJ book signing sometime around Book 10. He gave RJ explicit instructions "You're not allowed to die until this is finished." Oops. But hopefully t…

  19. Hi everyone! I started the books several months ago after seeing this character I'd never heard of before, Moiraine Damodred, give Dany from GoT a run for her money at a March Madness tournament, which piqued my interest. I still don't know what possessed me to dive into such an insanely long series when high fantasy isn't even normally my genre, but my curiosity won out, and I'm so glad I committed. I finally finished the series yesterday and just, wow. I'm in love with this universe and the characters. I miss them already, but I guess I get the show now to keep me company until I reread someday. Favourite books in the series (roughly):…

Hello all! My name may be familiar to some, if not hello my name is Rune. I used to be very active here many ages ago and have found my way back. I miss this place, I have untold amounts of amazing memories here, and I hope to make a few more ?

Hi, all! So I haven't been on a fan forum since I frequented MuggleNet in my teen years. (That probably ages me.) I'm currently re-reading the series for probably the fourth time since my first go-around at 15-ish. Right now, I'm on A Path of Daggers. I'm obviously Green Ajah, if my username didn't make it clear enough. I teach college writing, and I study the same thing (I'm a Compositionist). More interestingly, though, I am an avid bullet journaller. If you check my Instagram account, you'll see that I've recently been celebrating the show release by drawing maps from the show in my journal. My favorite one (of Caemlyn) is attached! I'm currently working on…

  22. Started by Glortard,

Afternoon I used to visit this site years ago to see what people thought of certain characters and to pick up anything I might have missed. I first started reading the books when they came out as a teenager and had the pleasure of getting Fires of Heaven signed by the author in my home town. I thoroughly enjoyed the books and looked forward to the release each year until A Crown of Swords was delayed by a good few years. As this was pretty much before the internet was widely available I even made a journey to the publisher in London to find out when the hell it would be coming out such was my fascination with the series then. I have reread the series over the …

  23. Long long time fan of the Wheel of Time. I cannot recall exactly when I started reading WOT but I do recall reading The Dragon Reborn in my last year of HS and that was almost 30 years ago. ? Major Fantasy Nerd for sure. ? Anyways I have been browsing & enjoying the forums for a few weeks - and really enjoying the Youtube content of DragonMount, Daniel Greene and several other WOT/Fantasy content creators. I was not sure if I was going to join - or just lurk from the shadows - no I am not a Fade I swear ? - but after all the love shown by so many WOT fans and watching the 1st episode - well like the title of the thread says - it was…

Hi there! My name is Chris and I LOVE The Wheel of Time series. I read the first 5 books way back when I was in my early 20's or so. Then, when the 6th book came out, I reread the first 5, and then the 6th. When the 7th book arrived, I reread the first 6...etc etc. Needless to say, I've read these books A LOT! I remember when I was reading them, which character I would love to have played in the movie/show if it was ever to be made (I was a theatre major in college and had hopes and dreams back then. lol) Anyways, I'm excited as all hell about the series and talking about it! I just finished the first episode, but I won't talk about it here. Thank yo…

  25. Started by Hudson,

Been reading the series since a friend in college handed me the Eye of the World in 1992. Excited about the series but concerned. Looking for a good group of people to discuss the upcoming series with. Look forward to chatting with everyone!

What's up fellow geeks. After watching the new TV series, I just can't keep my mouth shut, and have no friends IRL who have read the books. So here I am. I'm on my 4th read through of the series - first read it about ten years ago. Struggling through Lord of Chaos which has always been the hardest for me to get through. Loving all the foreshadowing and new things that I pick up on each time I read the series again. I pretty much hated the first 3 episodes, though I will probably still watch it every week, out of loyalty and morbid curiosity. Definitely disappointed. But in general, the books are always better than the movies or tv series. I think th…

  27. Started by Calembel,

Hi all, I'm from Canada and have delayed reading the WoT for far longer than I'd like to admit. I'm reading it for the first time now and am absolutely blown away by it.

  28. Started by Fellina,

So I'm an old soul that's returning. Was really active on the forums back in the early 2000's, part of the Aiel org back when that was a thing, but eventually ended up stepping away from a lot of online stuff when my oldest was born in 2003. Been pretty eager to see the developments with the new show but then when the soundtrack came out . . . man, I got all the feels. So I decided to pop in for a bit of nostalgia and to see if anyone from those days was still around.

Hey Wow, my old user name works!! I used to be a member way back in the beginning, I think about 2000, maybe even last century ? I was a member of the wolfkin back in the days of Darksmoon and Aldazar, don't suppose anyone from back then is still around? Stretching my memory but I remember Kagato and Arik, both of the Black Tower, Jonathon, other names might come back too. Are the Wolfkin still around? Do people still RP?

  30. Hello everyone, yet another long-time WOT fan have arrived. Name's Aleksandr, I'm from Siberia. I hope my english is not too bad. ? First time I had read EOTW and following books somewhen on century turn when I was heavily into fantasy. Books were translated to russian and published with some delay, so the story was kind of: - read all published books - some time passes, legend fades to myth and even myth is long forgotten... - new book published - ok, who are all these people? - read all published books from the beginning I think there was at least three such cycles. ? Anyway, despite some flaws WOT has, for some re…
