Can a person open a gateway directly into the Ways? I know there will be unresolved plot elements after AMoL, but leaving Machin Shin "alive" after the last battle seems wrong. How can "myth fade into legend" if there is something left in the world to remind us of the taint that had once been on Saidin? Could Rand open a gateway into the Ways as a trap for Fain? Would they cancel each other out?

As per Min's viewing of her in TFoH, Carlinya looked as if she was going to have some sort of connection with the Seanchan or some other hawk/bird symbolized thing; however, as of ToM, she has passed and have had little to do with the viewing at all...What gives?

* First of all if you haven't finished the books there are probably going to be spoilers So I am curious, If you had to pick a character that you were disapointed to find out was a dark friend. Mine was probably Sheriam, I really liked her in the beginning. Verin would also be one but I dont think she really counted. She was more like a good guy pretending to be a bad guy pretending to be a good guy.

I am re-reading Towers of Midnight and one of the more perplexing questions I have (and there are several, as you all know) is WHERE DID LOGAIN GO? Even Rand does not know where he is, so that takes away the possibility that he and Logain are plotting something together. And, if they were purposely keeping this a secret, why would he send Naeff to check on the Black Tower? I can only think of a two possibilities, but neither of them are rock solid: 1. He has been captured by the Shadow. Certainly possible, but since we know he has "Great Glory" in his future, he is not dead. And if I were the bad guys, I would either turn him to the shadow forcibly or kill him. …

I agree with most that WOT dips from books 7-10 before picking up again in book 11. I posted in the "Does WOT go downhill..." thread that I think that, in addition to the serial position effect, these books contain divergent plotlines (bowl of winds, Tower rebellion, Elayne's ascension to the Lion Throne, Faile and the Shaido, etc.), which: 1) arguably move away from the main plotlines; and, 2) generally involve more skirt-smoothing, sniffing, and emo brooding than action. As a result, I think the hate for Egwene, Elayne, and Faile is generated primarily from these books. Furthermore, the series IS really long... So, despite WOT getting my vote for GOAT fantasy …

I've been a long-time lurker and occasional poster on Dragonmount, but I haven't done much theorizing. This is something I've been wondering about for a while though: Lanfear is clearly set up as someone very significant. Lews Therin's former lover, as strong as a woman can be, and with a very ominous prophecy about her. Yet so far, she's been a bit of a disappointment. She has a great introduction, tries to seduce Rand and gives him Asmodean as a teacher... and then is tackled into Finnland by Moiraine and killed by the Eelfinn. Cyndane is her "Last Chance", but so far we've seen her in combat at the Cleansing, and precious little else. RJ was big on hype, but …

I've just re-read ACOS again and I'm starting to wonder if RJ originally envisaged Dashiva as Aginor reborn from the beginning. The thing that makes me wonder the most is how much he appears to help the Asha'Man find new talents and skills. I don't know the exact quote (I'm sure someone can find it) but Flynn explains that it was Dashiva who encouraged both his experiments with healing and other Asha'Man to find out what they can do. I just don't see how this is either spreading chaos (as per the "let the lord of chaos rule instruction) or hindering and sabotaging Rand's forces. There are myriad reasons for Aginor to be put as a spy into Rand's forces but why act…

New member/poster here...Hi everyone... Personal theory that I havent seen anywhere else just to get it out and stop obsessing. Min's viewing do Avis quads and 'something odd there' is tied in my mind to Min thinking about how she can't see her own future. Despite quads being odd enough on their own, the way the two pieces of info are tied together had me assuming at first read that the oddness is that 2 are Mins. Avis second trip thru the rings cemented this in my brain - the twins that take after their wet lander side, one is short, the other dark - those aren't Rand traits...but they are two common adjectives with Min. I am generally not a theorizer, so how…

Perhaps the thing I love most about WOT is the way Jordan hints at elements of our own Age, which in the scheme of things is probably the age before the age before the Age of Legends. These are my favorites: "Lenn flying to the moon in the belly of an eagle made of fire" in TEOTW. Obviously a reference to John Glenn (rather than Neil Armstrong, a mistake explainable by the fading of myth over time) and the moon landing of 1969. "The giant Mosk with his lance of fire that could reach around the world" in TEOTW. Russia with its nuclear weapons. A reference (which I have difficulty locating) to "Mosk and Merk" as giants having a fight with those fiery lances. …

This happens in the beginning of chapter 27 of Great Hunt, where Rand and Loial are attacked by Trollocs in the Foregate. When Loial is wrestling with the first Trolloc, Rand realises he can finish this fight with Saidin, but (that's a quote from the books). What happened here?

Each Taveren in the book tends to have a theme. Rand would be the Chosen one or the Matyr or a blend of that or even the conqueror (Rand is shown conquering kingdoms, Collecting incurable wounds and fated to die and save/break the world) Mat would be the Hero (its been referenced so much, also how many Damsels has he rescued [Egwene,Elyane,Nyneve,Aludra and Moraine]) Perrin would be the Leader, Lord, Beloved by the people (awww look at the cute little puppy) Each has their own skills like, Great general, Wolf Brother and Superman and each leads armies, But how they got there and their basic character are very different. Would you agree have other opin…

Elayne discovered that channelers who aren't bound by the Oath Rod slow instead of gaining the ageless looks. From what I've read here and other places it is stated that the Oath Rod cuts the expected lifespan in half (not sure if that's official though). We know there are several Aes Sedai close to 300, and it seems that they don't expect to live much longer than this. Considering this I have a few questions: 1) Is expected lifespan connected to strength in the power? I have read this several times, but I can't remember where. And if so, how much of a difference does this make? ~300 years seems to be mentioned several times with regards to Aes Sedai, can we assume th…

Hey everyone! Starting this week we will be running a suvudu style cage match in which we pit characters against each other in bracketed tornaments. Each cage match includes impressive art and a write-up of how we think the fight might go. The actual results are determined via polls, in which all of you get to vote, and hold threads in which everyone can discuss the fight. Head on over and check it out! we still don't know exactly where the light in rands head came from, i happen to like the idea that the eye has been protecting him. we know from semi that she was aware of the problem rand had with lews therin in his head, and had dealt with or heard of patients with this problem before, that was BEFORE the dark one's taint. and she called it insanity. i think that this is the insanity that we saw in rand, that it was never the insanity of the taint, but instead the insanity of two personalities at conflict causing decisions to escalate to insane choices. rj said rand was insane, but he didn't say it was because of the taint (at least i haven't seen a quote t…

What if Rand IS the Creator? It would completely explain the VOICE in TEotW, his strange, super-taveren powers, super-use of OP, and the light holding off the madness in his head. "To live you must die." Suddenly makes sense, now, doesn't it? Rand's physical body perishes, and at that moment, the Creator is born in the world. The Creator is conspicuously absent, isn't he? Especially considering the active role DO has taken. Not to mention all the foreshadowing. How often has someone from the Two Rivers pointed out the Rand "Thought he was the Light made flesh"? Umm, he KINDA IS. Just a fun, completely insane idea I had. No more than 2% on it, so rip it to pieces …

We all know all there is to know about the conditions. And for those who dont... Basically, when Rand managed to shields him after their battle for the Choedan Kal in Rhuidean, Lanfear appears, and Congratulates him for him win. She had a plan for quite a while to have Asmodean teach him in the power, and why shouldn't that be done under Rand's complete control? She helps him by shielding Asmodean partially, allowing him only a trickle of Saidin at a time. This is the only time in the series we've seen such a shield. Due to its nature, she has to tie it off. Now comes the big deal. why didn't he dissolve it? all the Forsaken know how to. Even Nyneave finds the "soft…

WoT is very near and dear to my heart, as I am sure it is with many of you. Though I have not yet acquired nearly the history or depth of knowledge that many of you on this forum have I have still found myself pondering a couple of questions from the series and the theories I have read. This one in particular has been bugging me for a while now however. Rand's connection to the TP is killing me. The DO grants the ability to use the power or not and so he himself must be stronger than it. That makes him stronger than even the Choeden Kal. Rand stated at several points that he felt as powerful as he was while wielding the access keys and he even used it to kill one…

january 8th of NEXT year? sigh...I would have fixed it for them in a couple weeks or less, just by reading it. and I would have done it for minimum (ish) wage...what a cryin shame. at least it's not being split again into 3 more parts. although I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the announcement came some time this year, of its being divided yet again (in two this time the second of course delayed another 2 - 3 years)...along with some lame excuse like it's just too big to bind that way, or other cover for the truth which is simply to make twice as much money. after all if you could make money, or TWICE as much money...which would you choose.

Unfortunately, only the bad guys ever get killed in these books (which is kinda unrealistic, but whatevs). But some of the deaths or near-deaths are really terrible (albeit deserved in some cases). But which fates stand out as the worse? I'd say Mesaana's brain getting scrambled has to be one of the top contenders. She's not dead, she's just dumb, literally, and it's a fate she'd have to endure until she dies. Definitely not the life of glory a Chosen would envision. Also, the gholam that gets trapped via Skimming would boast a terrible fate. I don't think it has feelings, but it would have to be miserable to be lost in there for eternity, since it probably can't …

Ok, I apologize in advance if this ends up kind of rambling. So I was thinking about a question I've seen debated off and on and I've never really had a satisfactory answer to. That question being: Why does the Dark One try to convert the Dragon Reborn instead of just killing him? What advantage does the Dark One gain by having the Dragon Reborn on his side that he doesn't also have if he's dead? These questions inevitably lead to an RJ quote I'm sure you guys are all familiar with. This got me thinking along these lines. We've told often in the series that the only chance the Light has of winning is for the Dragon Reborn to be alive at the Last Battle. …

With saidin cleansed of the taint, and the need to hunt down male channelers no longer there, what do you think the new life goal for the Red Ajah will be? I know several Red sister have bonded Asha'man (other Ajah sister too, for that sake). I am very glad the Red has a chance to "redeem" them self, both in the eyes of the rest of the world and in the Tower. But what will their new task be now? It seems like everything that has been set in the Red Ajah has been turned on its head. I am sorry if this has been discussed before, I couldn't find a thread, but perhaps I was looking the wrong places. ETA: This is NOT ment as a thread for bashing and badmouthi…
