Wow. The Aiel's hatred of the Seanchan leads to the world falling to the Empire and the Aiel getting essentially wiped out. Except I don't think it's going to happen. It's made fairly clear that the Aiel not being included in the Dragon's Peace is what led to the war, and I think Aviendha will work against that this time, find a way to free the damane and march Seanchan to a better, more enlightened future. What's the deal with the Illuminated Ones, the Lightmakers? That doesn't seem anything like what the Seanchan are now.

I believe the finns answer, to live u must die, refers to rand appearing to die at the last battle. i think alivia will use the mirror of mists to make rand appear dead when he is in fact not dead. this also would explain Logain leaning over a dead rand and the face crumbling.. as we know that the mirror of mists does not stand up to being touched. easy peasy.

I originally posted this on theoryland but didn't hear much response so just curious to what people would think on here. This is not a theory that is gonna go into every small viewing and prophecy in the book but will hit individual points about why I think Rand will be dead at the conclusion of AMoL. A popular theory in the fandom at the moment is that Rand will die during AMoL and be resurrected by the end to save the die and then go into hiding. A few reasons for this belief. 1. The Finns - "To live you must die." This is an indication that Rand will be killed so the world will have to come together and work together until Rand can be resurrected back into the …

  4. Was just doing some thinking about what we know about strength in the power & men vs women. Then I started to think about the fight when Aginor and Balthamel. Moiriane is decently powerful on her own. Not forsaken level or anything, but still pretty powerful. On their own, they each of them would be able to handle her without a problem, let alone together. However, she has an Angreal, and a pretty powerful one. I'd think that she'd at least be equal to them. Any thoughts?

I've been reading the thread about links to our time in WOT and it got me thinking (dangerous I know ) Is the Rand continent meant to be roughly in the same location as Europe with the Western edge of Tarabon and Arad Doman roughly being the same latitude as Spain and Portugal, Cairhien and Tear being roughly the same latitude as Russia with the Spine of the World being the Urals, the Aiel waste corresponding to Central Russia, the termool corresponding to Mongolia and Shara corresponding to Siberia and China and Seanchan being North America? Or is Tremalking the remnants of Spain and Portugal and Aile Somera the remnants of Eire? If so this is interesting as it…

Hi so I recently finished the series (or what there is so far). I have a a couple questions regarding it that have bugged me for a while. I have scoured forums but so far have not found anything too useful. First off, Fain comes into the story very early and slowly loses importance. I never understood him since he starts a DF and becomes more? He is diffent the the forsaken but on a similair level. He is connected to Shadar Logoth and draws power from it? Also what does Rand do to Logoth to cleanse the taint? A large amount of the OP was used but i always thought of Logoth as a seperate evil. Unless any evil is connected to the DO? I apologize if this is the …

  7. Re-reading tEotW, it's very clear Lan pushed and led the team to seek shelter in Shadar Logoth - Moiraine was looking for another way, but Lan settled on it as an acceptable solution. And thus, Mordeth was unleashed upon the world. If only Lan had been open to other options....All of Lan's good may have been counterbalanced by his field leadership resulting in Mordeth getting loose. :) Discuss as you will.

Hey folks, I apologize if this has been answered already, but I want to see some speculation on the topic, or even a definitive answer if it exists. There will be TofM spoilers below, so read at your own risk. After Thom and Matrim rescue Moiraine from the Finn Realm, they are having their happy campfire chat, in which, Moiraine mentions something that caught my eye and made me wonder. She says something along the lines of, "There was a man there. He woke me and told me I was not the one he was looking for.". Does anyone know for sure who this man was and why he was in the Tower? My first thought was that it was one of the Forsaken looking to reclaim the body …

I have been casually re-reading the wheel of time novels in anticipation of A Memory of Light, while also reviewing some of the old interviews with RJ. He mentioned that he had extensive notes on each of the main characters and would re-read these bios each time he began writing one of these characters into the books. This gave me an interesting idea, and about half way through my re-read I decided I would read each characters storyline instead of the whole book (giving me a different perspective on things). After reading COT and KOD I noticed something about Matrim Cauthon that I have never really picked up on. What is his association with lightning? Noal quotes …

If one loved a haircut so much that one wished to keep their hair in that style permanently, could one visit a Balefire Barber to burn the threads of their hair to a specific point that would never grow? Likewise, could said barber Balefire the face to prevent having to shave forever? Also, could one Balefire fingernails and the like just to make one's grooming that much simpler?

  14. Hi folks, I am pretty much new to the forum here. I did post a very few times over a year ago, but I have stayed away from the forum since Towers of Midnight was released, in order to avoid spoilers. You see, until recently, I had read through the Wheel of Time only once, starting way back in 1995, and continuing as each new book came out, up to The Gathering Storm. Then, shortly before the release of Towers of Midnight, I decided to do a re-read of the whole series. That re-read took me over a year, but I have finally finished it, including finishing Towers of Midnight for the first time just this evening. I am now anxious to read some of the discussions abou…

I just wanted to say: I read Towers of Midnight in three days. I have never been a liker of long descriptions (ie; The grass was green, it was so green it was greener then green.), so it's kinda interesting that I like the whole Wheel of Time series as that usually stops me from reading a series. But WOW! If there is not too much of a difference between Brandon Sanderson and Robert Jordan in style, there definitely was a change in pace. Maybe Jordan would have also bumped up the pace (especially considering he wanted to cram what Brandon said needs three books worth, if not more), but still: I am on Crossroads of Twilight right now on my re-read, and it has been almost a …

I just had a thought occur to me that I can't stop wondering about now. I wonder what you guys all think of it. :D So we know that Artur Hawkwing is one of the heroes that is called forth by the Horn of Valere. And it's pretty safe to assume that Mat will most likely blow the horn again during the last battle. It's probably also safe to assume that Tuon and/or other high ranking Seanchan blood might be there...whether fighting for/with or against Rand. So what do you think would happen if the Seanchan met Hakwing face to face? What if he went to Tuon and gave her some order or command? Is it feasible to assume that he would or could take over control of a…

Everyone is born, has a soul which is installed in a body. Body dies. Soul returns to the grand pool of souls or whatever to be reborn again and again as the wheel turns. Wolves are also reborn and for all we know every living thing is recycled in this manner. Maybe not the cockroaches and fleas but who knows? To deal with just people then, no wolves or lower animals whatever. Some people are special in various ways. The Heroes (of the Horn) are a special group. Members of this group hang out in Tel'Aran'Rhiod and live a ghostly life in between being spun out for some special use. (I hope they are 'spun out' by the Wheel Spinning and not by some ch…

I'm curious about this topic. Throughout the series, Nyn has made rather obvious allusions to wanting to heal death. In TSR we actually see Rand attempt this. However, Rand's abilities were unrefined and he had little skill with healing at this time. Nyn, however, has much more ability in Healing, and has exceptional strength and control with her channeling. Later in the series, we see the Mindtraps, the cour'souvra, which has the ability to trap a soul within it. The biggest problem I can see with healing death, is that eventually the soul will leave the body. However, with the cour'souvra, or similar ter'angreal (Made by Elayne?), the soul could be trapped long enough t…

I just completed book 3 of my re-read and something glared at me. How does Moiraine know that Sammael rules in Illian and Be'lal rules in Tear? I mean she blatantly says "Be'lal is Samon" but then asks Loial to give more info on him. Doesn't make much sense. Was it just a plot device used by RJ?

  24. I'm on my 1 bazillionth re-read lol and just noticed this. In The Great Hunt, when Rand and co go to Stedding Tsofu they are shown an Orgier who was attacked by the black wind in The Ways. Here is the quote my question is about: "Verin gave her a long look, then rose and strode to Trayal. He did not move as she laid her hands on his wide chest, not even a flicker of an eye to acknowledge her touch. With a sharp hiss, she jerked back, staring up at him, then whirled to face the Elders. “He is . . . empty. This body lives, but there is nothing inside it. Nothing.” Every Elder wore a look of unbearable sadness." They are still in the Stedding she couldn't delve him, …

I could not believe the number of great Science Fiction/Fantasy writers we have lost recently and thought that currently the US postage stamps have been quite lame, there haven't been any really good stamps issued commemorating great people. I can't limit a stamp design to just RJ, but maybe a sheet of such greats like: Author Deceased on: Asimov, Isaac (4/6/92) Anderson, Poul (7/31/01) Clark, Arthur C. (3/19/08) Crichton, Michael (11/4/08) Herbert, Frank (2/11/86) Hubbard, Ron (1/24/86) Jordan, Robert (10/16/07) McCaffrey, Anne (11/21/11) Roddenberry, Gene (10/24/91) that commemorate these SF/F writers that have so stimulated our imaginations. …

We know that 13 channelers and 13 myrdaals can turn a channeler into following the Shadow. We also know the ever quoted statement that no one can be deep enough into the shadow that there is no way back to the light. One can return to the light. Ingtar, the follower who defied his allegiance to the shadow and died for the light. Regarding Ingtar and many others whom we have encountered of the shadow, there is a personality within them. They argument within themselfs if their decision is the right one. The white cloak(dont recall his name) never questions his allegiance but he mourns the deaths of his relatives, especially his favourite sister. Those thoughts can…

Given the events of Aviendha’s vision, how can the Aiel avoid their fate? Avi believed the vision true but what part of it was essential? While the ages of the wheel repeat I don’t see this as some revolving mirror. The Aiel will not ‘turn tinker’, indeed will not ‘go back to the way of the leaf’. That has happened already; what is repeated is not so literal as to be the same, themes repeat, story arches repeat, character types repeat. The next dragon may need the Aiel as the last did but who’s to say the form of the help? I say this because of a number of throw away comments like the Aiel must return to the way of the leaf when the age of the age of legends comes…

Reading though the other message threads, I find it interesting that most people seem to think that Rand remembers his and LTT's memories. What about the memories of earlier lives? When he was on Dragonmount, he remembered all of them going so far back to be analogous with infinity. Now, he remembers LTT's memories most clearly (other than his own) because it happened relatively recently. The battle scene where he wipes out thousands of trollocs, etc in a matter of an hour or two makes me believe he remembers a lot more of his earlier lives (especially OP weaves) than he lets on. His messianic holy man mental state in the last book is unlikely the culmination of…

I love Nynaeve, Perrin, Rand, Mat, and Egwene, and I understand Two Rivers folk are stubborn and Bullheaded, I also understand Robert Jordan, unlike Tolkien and many others that came before Jordan, Robert Jordan wants his characters to be more wary, skeptical, and not so eager to trust outsiders who tell them they are "chosen" for soe special task (I heard Robert Jordan mention something to this effect in an interview, but I'm almost finished with Shadow Rising, and none of these characters I've mentioned (especially Nynaeve, who is one of my absolute favorites) have come to realize that Moiraine is not the enemy, but their greatest advocate (at least so far as I can see…
