http://www.brandonsanderson.com/blog/1048/Signed-leatherbound-THE-GATHERING-STORM-and-TOWERS-OF-MIDNIGHT-auction-for-Worldbuilders-charity It's good to see Sanderson is trying to help a charity with great cause. Also nice to see WoT collectable still worth quite a bit of money.(I have a signed copy of earlier book, numbered though, not lettered) BTW I am not sure this should be this board or General Discussion, this is WoT related so I putted it here, please move it if this belong to other board.

in ToM we see both ships with red sails attacking Seanchan, and a group of "Aiel" with red veils and sharpened teeth here is my theory about them. I believe that the are the male channellers from both Aiel and Atha'an Miere societies. in the Aiel society when a man finds out he can channel he goes north to the blight to face the dark one. with the Sea Folk the men are given a choice; either tie stones to your self and drop to the bottom of the ocean, or be left on a deserted island with one water skin. in the cases of both the Aiel men and the Sea Folk who choose to be left on the island it is possible that the shadow knew of this practice and was able to use 13 drea…

I have been wondering about this for sometime now, and reading these boards has made me more confused, not less. In KoD we have Sameriage saying that other male channelers in the AoL "heard voices" of previous incarations of themselves, in their heads, and that this was followed closely by a decent into insanity. Given that after VoG the voices in rand's head, which I always presumed to be his insanity, were merged into his own voice, does that contradict my previous assumtion about the voice of LTT being Rand's insanity? How does Samerige's statement effect this? Was LTT hearing voices in his head after sealing the bore? Or, was the "insanity"\effect of the t…

Usually, when I start a thread, it is only with irreverence in mind. But I have seen one theme arise time and again, and wanted to take a closer look. This theme: Character Hating It's true. The fans of Wheel of Time hate characters. They hate Egwene, Nynaeve, Faile, Gawyn... I confess it. I wished that the Shaido would finish off Faile. I STILL hope that someone gets Gawyn. My reasons and the reasons I read appear different though. The community hates characters that are "dumb" or "dense" or "blind". I've seen some described as bitchy or assholish. I've seen woman characters disliked by woman posters for showing qualities that would be lauded …

This would not bug me so bad if it were not for the point made in the books that an Aes Sedai also can not WRITE a lie. In TFOH, Book Five, the prologue has an Aes Sedai tell Elaida that, well, to paraphrase, a forger is faking letters to Elayne's mom! Ok, at first I was like ''Well, its definitely Dishonest, but is it technically a Lie?...'' ...I thought more about it, though, and due to the situation, almost anything IN the letters would be lies also. So, then I thought, well, maybe the Forger isn't Aes Sedai, but then what are the Aes Sedai saying to the Forgers in their ''dealings''??? I just don't like it. Seems a clear Oath Violation in my eyes, and whil…

Regardless of how you feel about the faith and realness of it to avoid that kind of argument. Do you think the dragon soul one power or not could be someone like Jesus? Would someone like Jesus be a ta'veren? I doubt RJ would have answered a question like that but I wonder what his thinking on the subject is since we're supposed live in an age of the Pattern.

Both seem to be creations of the age before the age of legends. But it would seems like they would be something that are consistant every turning. Seems like the Horn would be used for every Age of Prophecy considering how Hawkwing talks to Rand. Do you think the Horn or something similar is created every turning or it's just forgetten and found again? Portal Stones we know even less about. Who made them and how old are they? Are they constant major event in each turning?

In Chapter 22 of LOC, Mat and Vanin come upon a group of Tinkers that had been killed but that had left a message: "Tell The Dragon Reborn." What was this all about? Did RJ ever say? Has anyone ever asked Brandon Sanderson? Is there a 'Theories Thread' somewhere on this? Ideas? Fish

I've always wondered this. Is there any evidence that Rand and LTT are unique? Or is the COL always born twice in each turning of the wheel?

Ok not sure if this has been discussed (I couldn't find anything) but is it possible to have Darkfriend Wolfbrothers? Now in TEoTW Eylas tells Perrin that he believes it is the wolves who choose a Wolfbrother, that is the reason I assume that at the start of the book all the Emonds Fielders are commenting on how many wolves there have been around that winter. And the same when the gang hear wolves howling outside Baerlon, they are keeping an eye on Perrin, is that how it works do we think? So if that is how it works then the wolves pick out Wolfbrothers, so that kinda makes me think it wouldn't be possible to have a Darkfriend Wolfbrother as the wolves wouldn't pick…

I assumed the Age of Legends was the Second Age, Rand's Age the Third Age, and the Age after that the Fourth Age. So far, I think that we all agree. Let's not talk about "our" Age now, because that's not what I want to talk about. What I want to say, is that Herid Fel, in LoC chapter 18 calls the Age of Legends tree times the Third Age, and even wonders if they called it the Third Age too. I do not believe this is a translation mistake made three times on the same page. So either we are wrong, RJ was wrong here, or Herid Fel just thinks about it wrong. Actually, I think that it could be the first. What do you say about it?

Asmodean has been one of the most underplayed Forsaken in WoT so far. He appeared in book 4, when Lanfear mentioned him as Rand's teacher, and was wiped out in book 5. Of all the Forsaken, he has been given the least spotlight; even Be'lal got more than him. It may be because RJ wanted it. However, of all the Forsaken, Asmodean has proved to be more destructive. He brought Trollocs in the Three-Fold Land for the first time, nearly snatched the Aiel from Rand by branding Couladin's arms and created the rift in Aiel that continued to play havoc till Book 11. On the other hand, following was what other Forsaken did: 1. Graendal - Trying to snare Perrin, but failed; 2. …

Can somebody explain to me why in Salidar that the women Aes Sedai are so selfish in that they note the shortage of lamp oil but ignore the simple solution of creating light and tying off the weaves and attaching it to a wick of a lamp? Is this a writer blunder? Do the Aes Sedai consider themselves above such menial tasks? If so then they could assign the task to novices. They have been using the power to make products and sell for profit to keep the revenue coming to keep the coffers with money to cover the expenses. They could sell the lamps at market. they could start a business and name it Rebel LLP.

both Mat and Min have so far as i know pretty rare gifts and tallents which is solely theirs, and it also seems to be a new tallent or a totaly new tallent which has nevre been seen before, (that is recorded of corse). Min had the tallent when they met her and Mat hav his tallent developed through the series, though he have other gifts also as remembering old tongue + the abilaty he got from the Foxes battle tactics, (was it not so that Mat spoke old tongue fluently both times he went through the dors to finnland, before he got the tallent) btw that is a digeration so luck and faith is two old terms in human history, destiny and chance, often depicted as dietys …

Hey guys, I've been going through LoC with a fine-tooth comb the past few days (doing so for an entirely different reason I'll post about later.) Something just stood out to me that I wanted to bring up for discussion. Told from Elayne's POV, she is pondering on Nynaeve's efforts to study those who had been severed in order to heal them. I'm paraphrasing a bit, but she thought "Nynaeve won't be satisfied until she has healed someone 3 days dead." It was presented as a sort of passing thought, nothing of consequence. But if there's one thing we know about RJ, it's that he loves to give hints and clues in that way. So it got me thinking.... There have al…

Ok, these questions have formed in my mind over the years and now that I'm rereading the series and am able to pay better attention to details since I know the basic background... I've found that there still haven't been given specifics (as of aCoS)... So I'll put them here and wait and see what happens: Is everyone reborn? It seems that people believe it or hope for it, considering the oath that goes "“By the Light and my hope of salvation and rebirth", but do we know? When you do something exceptionally heroic, the Wheel figures out that it can use you, and decides to start recycling you for its purposes by tying you to the Horn of Valere. Then your soul is tempo…

So I've been meaning to do this mondo-post for ages; I'm sick atm so I might as well. Deep pre-theory breaths everyone... Weird unexplained things: 1. Lord of the Morning/Prince of the Dawn. These were LTT's titles, as far as I know. At least, he claims a right to them fairly vehemently in Rand's head once or twice. Where did they come from? What do they mean? They are also used to describe Rand in a piece of prophecy at the end of...TGH, I think. 2. Web of white stuff in Rand's head. 3. Why exactly the DO would rather capture him than kill him. 4. How it happened that Rand turned darkside in previous lives and yet the DO didn't break free (see confusing …

Hi everyone, my name is Josh and I am a long time reader and first time poster. I just wanted to see if anyone else there is excited for one final read through of this series not only because of the closure of the story we all love, but due to the fact that these books have something of a nostalgic quality for you. These books have been a mainstay in my life since I discovered a tattered copy of The Eye of the World back when I was twelve years old. My parents were worried about me for a while because all I did during high school was read the books over and over again. I treasured opening these pages and spending time with characters who in a lot of ways were m…

We all know that Tarmon Gai'don is upon us in the last book. There will be a high body count on both sides. Yes, we all have characters we hope will not die. But, we also, well some of us, secretly nurture characters we hope WILL die. So, who on the side of light do you want to see die?

OK. So, Rand's first death. Rand breaks seals at Shayol Ghul. Rand and two women link with Callandor. Rand is held/out of control. Nynaeve removes the white powder from Rand's brain and attempts to use it as a buffer to touch the Dark One. With the white protection gone the Darkness clamps down on Rand and the Dark covering which Perrin saw in VOG pre-enlightenment covers Rand again. (The dark hand holding Callandor now.) As the Darkness covers Rand so does Darkness cover the Land because as we know the Dragon is One With the Land. The Sun disappears from View. Rand's soul is seized at the maw of the infinite void. Sucked out of his body like a g…

I'm in the midst of my reread of The Dragon Reborn and I see that I am no better at understanding Elayne's problem with Galad or her insistance on stating that he is not her brother. I know, I know, he always does what is right, how awful, lmao. I just find her anger at him rather over the top, especially since he saved her brothers life at one point, which she mentions in her conversation with Eugene in the chapter I am on at the moment. What am I missing? How much older is he than them. I just can't understand why she seems so bitter about him. It is something that I have always found rather annoying about her character.

Ok, so I guess I never really understood this viewpoint. Here you have two groups of people using the power. One chooses to learn but has to be taught otherwise they will never even sense the power. The other is natural occurrence during their life. So why are they sneered at? It seems to me they would be the awe inspiring ones! "Wow you did what? You healed a man on the brink of death using the one power without even being taught how?? WOW!! I've been training in the tower for 10 years and can barely heal a paper cut!" Ok so maybe I just hit on it.. is it a jealousy thing? Or is there more to it? I also notice it isn't just a fictional thing... similar disd…

"The blood of the Dragon Reborn on the rocks of Shayol Ghul will free mankind from the Shadow." "Twice dawns the day when his blood is shed. Once for mourning, once for birth. Red on black, the Dragon's blood stains the rock of Shayol Ghul. In the Pit of Doom shall his blood free men from the Shadow." I was just wondering what people's thoughts were that Rand's unborn child also has the Dragon Reborn's blood? I've got a few thoughts in my head, but am keen to see what folk think Apologies if this has been covered
