I'm going to catch some flak for this one I know. I am writing today against the idea of a motion picture production of The Wheel of Time. In all honesty I would love to live in a perfect world and have a perfect recreation of the books, but I know that would never happen. Based on the depth, and density of the books I don't think any production, whether movie or HBO style mini-series would do it justice. The primary reason would be funding and appeal. A company like HBO could probably do a fantastic job but I don't see it going beyond 2 or 3 books. The series would have a limited market and would be cancelled because the budget would invariably be too high to carry on fo…

I am rereading it now for the first time. Second time. When it first came out I was annoyed because I just wanted the series to get a move on, but now I am not so sure. I was wondering if people are glad he did this novel or not?

We know the wolves have been heading to the Borderlands since VoG and the Borderlanders know the wolves hate Trollocs, so I think it's possible that Lan's army will get help from the wolves and be able to hold. Any thoughts?

Meant to post this on Veteran's Day here in the US, sorry for the delay... From Chapter 55, The One Left Behind, Towers of Midnight: To me, this short passage is moving on several different levels. For one, it expresses how much respect Mat has developed for the common soldier. In the EotW Mat more or less shared Thom's opinion that soldiers were fools and that there was no cause worth dying for. His views have evolved since then and he now realizes that there are battles that can't be avoided and that being prepared so that the Band suffered the least casualties was the best thing he could do for his soldiers. I wonder if this particular paragraph was …

ok so i got introduced to WoT series like three years ago and i have read the first 11 several times but i have always been put-off of reading the brandon sanderson's editions to the series. Not that brandon isn't a good writer ( he is actually very talented IMO) i have read several of his books and they are all enjoyable but the fact remains, in my eyes atleast, is that RJ is the best author EVER!!!!! the WoT series is so complex that i can't see anybody actually being able to finish the series like RJ could have. I just don't want the series to end off with something other than greatness, i would rather just leave off with book 11 and call it quits, however i am dying t…

I confess I'm completely at a loss as the significance/meaning of: ""The Light blind you, Ba'alzamon! This has to end!" IT IS NOT HERE. It was not Rand's thought, making his skull vibrate. I WILL TAKE NO PART. ONLY THE CHOSEN ONE CAN DO WHAT MUST BE DONE, IF HE WILL. "Where?" He did not want to say it, but he could not stop himself. "Where?" The haze surrounding him parted, leaving a dome of clear, clean air ten spans high, walled by billowing smoke and dust. Steps rose before him, each standing alone and unsupported, stretching up into the murk that obscured the sun. NOT HERE." Anyone got any idea what's goin on here? Is that the Creator, is this going …

Hello, new here but I've really enjoyed what I've read so far. I'm doing my first reread and came across something I haven't seen discussed anywhere. it might fall under the big unnoticed thing. In the fourth book when Moiraine is explaining bale fire to Rand she talks about the unspoken truce not to use it in the aol because at one point the pattern was almost unraveled. The stated goal of the dark one is to destroy the wheel and unravel the pattern. It seems like all the glotd would have to do is instruct all his chosen to go crazy with bale fire and the wheel would be destroyed. In the 6th book prologue the glotd asks demandred if he would use bale fire for him ju…

Just reading back through ToM and I've been thinking to myself; how narrow minded is it of both Elayne and Mat to consider keeping the use of the dragons to themselves? I understand that they do not wish to give other nations or armies and advantage in battle against them but there are two major reckonings to be kept in mind: a) The dragons may be necessary to win the Last Battle, or at least allow enough Lighties to survive in order to consider it more than a moral victory. If the Last Battle is lost, or so many Lighties are killed that it makes little difference if they win, then there will be no purpose to having trained a now non-existent army in use of the drag…

I've seen mentions here and there and pondering and speculation on Mat's Hat. I was on the verge of falling asleep listening to the audiobook of The Shadow Rising when I heard Lanfear in disguise tell Mat "I seldom make the same offer twice" which seemed to be focused on the hat when Mat spied Kadere with it in hand and offered a gold mark for it, but I connected it with her visit to Mat in the White Tower offering him gold and glory and her offer then. She seemed to think that Mat was a shoe in already for one of the things she offered to him in the tower with her comment of something already done or something not going to be a problem for him(glory for sounding the ho…

I've been reading that each age will come again and again as the wheel of time changes and I can't work out how the geography will get changed. By this I mean that it's well known that the geography in the Age of Legends was very different to that of current Randtime. During the breaking it all was changed by the mad Aes Sedai. What I can't work out is how the geography will be changed back from Randtime back to the Age of Legends. Does this imply another breaking will occur between now and then which just happens to result in the original Age of Legends land masses or will the next Age of Legends have a different geography? The wheel of time setup implies it should b…

So some posts by our good friend Felix Pax reminded me of this recently, in tFoH Min has this viewing of Carlinya Sedai tFoH and yet in ToM Carlinya was killed in the BA Tar attack, which would seem to leave Min's viewing unfulfilled. ToM Well let's have at it, any thoughts on how this could be?

Greetings, Long time lurker, first time poster. I am almost done with TOM. I just hit the part where Elayne agreed to let the Two rivers be it's own nation (Rand in control, and Perrin as steward/High Lord) I've seen a few posts about this, in threads. But no threads dedicated to this. I for one, would love to see Manetheren rise again. I like spoilers.. idk why, i have something to anticipate and to see how it unfolds and know it as it happens. I doubt it will be renamed to Manetheren by the time i finish TOM. I was hoping/wondering if anyone had any information that the Two Rivers would be renamed Manetheren? I know its just a name.. but i really want …

My apology if this has been covered in an earlier thread. Is there any official word from TOR when they might release a pic of the cover for A Memory of Light? I've noticed from previous WOT books that a sample of the book cover is usually revealed 4-5 months prior to the date of publication. I am very much interested in how Darrell K. Sweet might depict a key passage of the upcoming book.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Rand does realize that Galad is his half-brother, and Galad has no way of possibly knowing that? I was having a conversation with my uncle and cousin today and the topic came up. I remember when Rand figured out who his mother was. I believe he then realizes Galad is his brother. But do they ever come out and say it ever? Do you think Rand is going to tell Galad? How will he react?

With so much going on in this last book, what do you think the timeline will be? What will take place first? The trip of Moraine/Matt/Thom to Caemlyn? The Field meeting? The Seachan attack on the White Tower? Avi's trek back? Min's discovery on how to properly seal the bore ( or proof that the seals need to be broken by Rand )? Personally. For some reason I think the Seachan will do their thing first. If it happens at all. In this series the " bad " people always seem to have the first word. Or perhaps, along those lines the first event will a Taim POV.

I don't know if this has ever been posted about, or thought of yet. But in case it hasn't, I wanted to drop this info on some other wheel of time heads and see what they thought. The origin of the black wind in the Ways comes from Shaidar Logoth. Everything in that city is tainted with the hate that consumed it. There was and still is a Waygate that stands within the confines of that tainted city. I propose that Machin Shin entered into the Ways via the Waygate at Shaidar Logoth. And also something Moiraine said about Padan Fain in TGH I believe it was. She said when Padan Fain had followed them threw the Gateway from Caemlyn to Shienar, that the Black Wind caught him,…

Maybe it's just me, but if a character was introduced after The Dragon Reborn, I tend to find them much less memorable. Granted, there are some exceptions. Cadsuane and Fortuana were introduced fairly late in the series, but they managed to make an impression with me. Then again, you could argue that if you're going to introduce the most famous living Aes Sedai or the Seanchan empress, you better make sure they stand out. However, my rule of thumb is that if I didn't read about you in the first three books, or if you weren't at least referenced, I have a harder time keeping track of you. Take Hurin, a minor character. Granted, he played a fairly significant role …

First of all, i'm new, but don't let that get in the way... I thought about the process of how will Rand get resurrected? we all hope, based on the finn question "How can i win and survive?" that Rand will be alive at the end of the last book. the two most used theories are either: 1. A body swap with Morridin. this does seem unlikely to me, as we know very little of the link and possible interactions. it's not been mentioned much, but neither Morridin nor Rand has proven to be able to actually do something with it. and a body swap isn't just something.. 2. dies, becomes hero of the Horn(which we know he is from RJ), and gets torn out of TAR, maybe with a warder …

So we know two, Rand and Nynaeve, but who's the 3rd? My 2 main cantidates (probably the only 2) are the Seachan woman that Min said would help Rand die, and Moraine. I never really thought about Moraine until Mat saved her... hence giving up half the light to save the world. She can hardly channel a lick now, but she may not have to, just direct the flow since she has the most experience, and maybe an answer from her visit to the Finns. But then, how will the other lady help Rand die?

From Egwene's Dreem Now take 23 enormous stars, and then read Avienda's second passage through the pillars. As Ladalin, there is mention of the council of 22. Is this a coincidence, or am I just off in never never land?

Hi there, this is the first time i am posting here, in fact i made my account just for this very purpose. I've only been looking at the forums recently(although a long time reader of the series, and just finished my fourth read through) and i've seen the Egwene hate and love stuff and i would ask that be left by the side of the road for this discussion, Ta very much :) So to the point, i think Rand did what he did(not sure about spoiler specifics in this area) because of a reason i have yet to see on here. Basically it goes down like this Rand got her mad not to undermine her but instead because he wants her to take control of seanchan-free-randland. I believe he…

Hello, So this question has plagued me enough now that I finally had to join so I could ask for some thoughts. I am doing an umpteenth read-through in anticipation of AMoL...and something just stood out to me that I never caught before. At the beginning of THG when Rand and Lan are working out, Rand is complaining that Moiraine is ignoring him now. He then mentions that she even left Fal Dara, and Lan tells him that she got back the previous night. We know that Ingtar is a dark friend and left the keep at the same time to go to the meeting that was told through the perspective of "Bors." I'm still near the beginning of this book, but I simply don't recall a…

We have seen the build up of many confrontations throughout the series. I am curious to hear everyone's thought on who will fight whom, who will win, and how. For example, Rand and Mordin have a confrontation coming obviously. I think Rand will face him alone and will over power him since he is Rand (LTT) but will stop shy of killing him cause that is not his way now. Taking advantage of his mercy Mordin will strike out randomly and wound Rands side and cause his non healing wound to open. Rand will bleed out and die and the DO's forces will seem to win. Then Rand will come back (its gonna happen) and save the day. Or something very close to that Something like th…

In the series, Rand's personality changes throughout the whole thing. To me, i originaly liked his personality in books 1-3 and also liked his personality once it started to change in 4-6, but through 7-12 though... I just didn't really like that Rand at all. Seriously, feeling emotions doesn't change how "strong" one person is. I liked how he was a very nice man in the early books and the fact he got very nervous a lot. Those were the good times in the series on how you would laugh at how much he gets nervous and how weak and small he seamed, but now he is an emotionless bad-ass kinda dude who doesn't care about anything period. All he cared about was killing all of t…

If tuon dies does that make Mat the Emperor of the Seanchan forces on Randland? If so it is likely a very neat way to solve the Seanchan problem, except for Mat's broken heart Any thoughts?
