I remember reading this in an earlier book than KoD and thought nothing of it, but this sure looks like a common hand gesture in our world. Is Robert Jordan telling us he loves us?! Please don't someone take that entirely literal and say, "No, he forgot the thumb." Buzzkill

Just ironic of Jordan to slip something like this in. Maybe Elayne isn't the only Aes Sedai who is pregnant? This makes me think that Logain may have fathered a child, and he is aware of it, further it states:

Ok, so here's something that's been on my mind for a while. We know Lan is the best swordsman in Randland. We also know that Mat is pretty handy with his staff, beating Galad and Gawyn at the same time, all while feeling a bit under the weather. What I was pondering is, how would a fight between Lan and Mat go? Who would win, and how easy a victory would it be? What about if Lan didn't have his warder bond? Let me know your thoughts Also, who are your picks for best non-sword fighters in the fantasy realm?

I've been reading for a few hours, but I reached a point where he started talking about Elayne and her story.(I'm about half way thru book 11) Right now she's holed up in the Tower, and after 3 chapters about it, Im ready to die. 3 chapters down. Turn the page. ELAYNE. AGAIN. I had to get up and put it down for a bit. I dont know why, but Im finding her extremely boring right now. I do so hope it gets better. Wise Ones came and wisked Aveinda(spelling, and im not about to look it up) off. So its just Elayne, Brigitte, and a sea of boring characters. Sorry, I had to vent. Its just that I was enthralled with the book until now. I AM EXAGGERATING(I still love the bo…

Generally we have been hearing about Rand re-sealing the bore. In other words, the suggestion is that Rand will put a permanent patch on it. But the Ages turn in a circle. In the AoL, there was no bore at all until Meirin/Lanfear & company made it, not even an old one with an ancient seal. Re-sealing the bore is not the same thing as un-making it. If the Ages are to continue turning in their wheel, Rand will have to actually un-make the bore, not just fill it with saidin/saidar cement. Now I'm wondering: In order to un-make the bore, will Rand need to know how it was made? I ran across this: Rand/Lews Therin doesn't know how the bore was made.…

Let's face it, Taim is awesome. Hes almost as awesome as Ishadin. Unless he IS Ishadin... Anyway, I found it interesting that everyone assumes Taim is a darkfriend. Granted, in retrospect the evidence against him is quite strong. Not only is he trying to kill our hero, the Champion of the Light, but hes employing known darkfriends and giving orders identical to Demandred's. And yet, just because you want to kill Rand al'Thor does not make you a darkfriend. Nor does using darkfriends (Galina and Katerine were Elaida's closest confidants). Mostly what I found awkward about the "Taim is a DF" theory is his history. Why would a real darkfriend ever declare themself as…

  7. I don't know what got me thinking about this, but it interested me. Maybe because it is so hard to judge. Maybe because it is surprising when - upon close inspection - you realize just how many unseemly things the Big Three have really done. I mean, Mat has shot three people. And, ironically enough - ALL THREE were WOMEN! Perrin chopped off the hands AND feet of several Shaido in Book 10 just to get information concerning his kidnapped fiancee's wherabouts. (This was a particularly disturbing scene - even though I think RJ was on record as saying it was an intentional homage to Misery, by King). Rand...Oh, Rand. Where do we begin? The list is t…

  8. A curious question: Has anyone or anything (such as a Trolloc) in the novels survived a direct lightning bolt hit when targeted by a channeler? Do you think it's possible that if an Dreadlord calls down a lightning bolt on a Shienarian armsman, could the armsman survive the initial bolt?

  9. Started by Feral,

If you could change/add/remove any character or plot or whatever in this series what would you do? Change: The Dragon Reborn title to "Phoenix Reborn". I know it doesn't sound quite as fierce and powerful but it just makes more sense. Phoenix = rebirth. And so far there's been no reason revealed for the use of dragon as a title. Add: I'd give Rand a twin sister, who's on an equal footing with Lanfear when it comes to channelling. It would get rid of the need for Alivia and Egwene (she'd be a good choice as Amyrilin, being the DR's sister). She'd be good guard for Rand, someone he could actually trust, and she'd act as a good mediator between the AS/Wise Ones and h…

I was just rereading TSR Chpt 5 the last few pages Eg and Nyn were questioning Joiya on BA plans, she stated that Liandrin had plans to kidnap Taim and using him to pose as Rand and cause chaos in his name. Eggy thought Joiya must be lying, perhaps it was truth? Could Liandrin have followed through or at least made contact with Taim? I dont know if this has been discussed but feel free to critique, criticize, theorize, etc...

Who are they and when will they be uncovered? Maybe they're still in Sleeper mode? There's supposed to be DF's in every village, town, and city; occupying all social niches from beggar to noble, according to Moiraine. You'd have thought Fain would have contacted and utilized them during his "Scouring of the Two Rivers" in tSR. I don't remember Tam or Bran reporting sabotage of the village defenses during the Shadowspawn attacks when they gave sit-rep's to Lord Perrin. I was kind of expecting one of the Coplins or Congars to be caught in the act, it seems like they would be prime DF recruiting material if you consider their reputation as malcontents. Maybe having 3 T…

  12. Are there any in Randland? I know Aiel have spear maidens, but what about the Westlands? Are there any female warriors or blademasters? What about on the Borderlands, where nearly everyone is required to fight at some point? The only female warrior I can think of is Brigette, and she is primarily an archer.

  13. Started by Vassili,

This discussion is less about characters or plot, and more about the mechanics of the WoT universe. As most of you already know, TAR (tel'aran'rhiod aka World of Dreams) is another dimension that reflects the real world but is also a reflection of the thoughts of any living sentient being that has the power to enter it. Thought become reality in TAR, so if I imagine myself wearing armor, suddenly I am wearing armor. If I imagine a unicorn, suddenly a unicorn springs into life. Even nightmares can become "real" in TAR. Its perhaps important to note that the idea of a world where thoughts or beliefs become reality is not new to WoT, the idea has been explored before (Peter …

I was just reading through Egwene's dream section of CoT, and i had forgot that she had a dream that she would be saved by a seachan woman. Right after she has this dream she has the dream of the tower being attacked by the seachan. When she wakes she says she knows what the two dreams mean, and the tower being attacked already came true. Any thoughts on how she will be saved and by whom?

Was anyone else disappointed when Rand sent Mat to basically aBANDon the Band in order to get Elayne? I know we see the Band later, but I'd wager Mat's staying would have been much more interesting.

For those of you who actually use the database on a semi-regular basis, I'm interested in your opinion on tags. If you don't know, we're working on a new database at Theoryland that will contain every WoT-related author interview we can get our hands on, and Team Jordan/Harriet interviews as well. Each interview will be entered in chunks which will be search engine results (though each will be viewable as a complete interview). Usually that's a single Q&A, sometimes multi-Q&As if they're related, or a paragraph of a blog entry, etc. I'm told the results will be fixed-size boxes with a scroll for longer entries, and each result will have back/next buttons to na…

Is there any evidence given in the books to shed light to this? IMO Dreadlords can be both male and female, but I just want to know for sure which it is.

I have two questions about these two: 1) How (and why) did Lanfear die after being pushed through the gate by Moiraine? Obviously she must have died for the Dark One to be able to resseruct her. 2) Will Moiraine ever recover her full powers, or will she forever remain as weak as she is now? Thanks!

Did the melding between the two change after Rand had his hallelujah moment on the Dragonmount? Could Rands current state of mind induce a change in Moridins?

How will Birgitte react when she finds out that Mat successfully navigated in Finnland, accomplished his mission, and safely escaped? It appears that she has a bit of an ego about her past exploits; will she be envious that Mat succeeded where Jethari Moondancer tried and failed?

  23. Started by Clouded,

I am curious about how exactly someone is converted to the shadow. There seems to be conflicting reports on how to do this. In The Dragon Reborn, Ch 22 The Price of the Ring and a conflicting (or more informed) statement from a Robert Jordan Interview: The reason I ask is because it changes my interpretation of event at the black tower. If no linking is required, than Taim could start turning men when he found 12 other male channelers who were darkfriends. But if a circle is required, then at least 1 women would need to be involved, which means he had a few options. He had to wait until some dark sisters were bonded, he had to sneak in a BA siste…

So i am reading the books yet again. I just came to the point in the book where they are all in the ways. Lan mentions someone is following them ... Fain after rand and co. We all know that he gets done up by the dark one, and shadar logoth. so once he gets caught up in what ever is in the ways would make him 3 times corupted by evil. so i guess that makes him 3 times unique in the age cause it has never happend before. every one else's thoughts on this?

So I know lots of peolpe have talked about Rands effect of Cleasing the taint on the ways and my purpose here is not to discuss that. But I was jsut curious as to people's thoughts on Rands effect on the ways if he were to enter them now. We have already seen Rands new "Light" effect on peole and plants. We have seen him cause an entire apple orchard to suddenly rebloom and well as his effect on the Grain Barges. So what would happen if he were to enter into the Ways now? THe ways were grown. Could his "light" effect cause them to rebloom and heal? And if so do you think that the effects would linger after he left? Do you think his light effect would draw Machin …

I dont like coming to this part of the forum yet, even the topics give things away. Gonna wait til Im done with the series. Im on book 11, half way thru. If you need a reminder as to the time frame, Mats traveling with the Circus. Book hasnt mentioned his staff, although he did buy a Yew Bow staff. And I was wondering. What happened to that staff or spear or whatever it was that he got same time he got the fox medallion? If youre NOT suppose to know as of book 11, dont tell me. I just cant remember why he isnt carrying it.

What could be the possible effect of it being sung? I'm new, and haven't tried to see if the thread exists, not to mention lazy, but could it possibly have something specifically to do with the taint? What news or hints in the book point to it being found?

Hello I started my second reread few days ago and I noticed some iteresting stuff. Sorry if it was discussed elsewhere. In TGH before they leave Fal Dara, Rand is instructed by Lan and the lesson is about "sheathing the sword". The hardest lesson ever. I'm convinced that the lesson will play an important role in the AMOL. So the question is: Will rand commit a suicide? We know for sure that LTT did it...

I'm bored, please humour me. Of the five major cities (in terms of size, power, history, architecture, cultural relevance - I'm probably stretching the reality a bit here) is your favourite, and why? Or do you prefer one of the lesser, but no less the better, cities or towns. I've always had a soft spot for Caemlyn. It makes me think of the (slightly) more innocent, wide-eyed youngster days of Rand and Mat.

I came across this image on the site and think it would be a totally awesome real cover for the book. (Obviously minus the humorous "gay pride" add-in character.) I was wondering if this is a legit cover prototype with the leather clad man shopped in? Even if it is not an official cover or whatever I would love to have a version of this image without the YMCA member available. I browsed google and such with no luck. Any help or insight is appreciated!
