So, there are some interesting similarities between Seanchan and the Age of Legends. Firstly, note that the helmets worn by the Seanchan soldiers (ones like monstrous insect heads, with the mandibles for face guards) seem very, very similar to those worn by the Soldiers that fought for the Light in the War of the Shadow. For another, notice the names. In the Age of Legends great achievement earned you a third name, and in Seanchan culture, achievement earns you a higher name. And too, as a form of degradation the Age of Legenders gave the Forsaken new names to mark the shame of what they'd done (for all that the Forsaken took these on as marks of pride), and note when Ege…

I've recently purchased New Spring, my local bookstore has only just got it in stock. Doing a read-through and I've noticed one scene in Chapter 7: The Itch when describing items in Kerene's room. I'm just to curious if anyone else thinks this could be further foreshadowing to Perrin gaining a crown, be it of Two Rivers or even the Broken Crown? It just minds me of the Perrin singing in high-chant whilst wearing a crown possible foreshadow.

The official word on the TGS tour was 'we ain't telling you'. But check out this interview Marie Curie just found: Looks like Brandon goofed a little, and Team Jordan saw this interview and asked him to be more secretive. Note the dates. Looks like this debate is finally over. Brandon specifically said that's what he had found in the notes. Clearly, he wasn't supposed to say that. And now we know.

I started listening to the audio books around september last year and finished around february and then started a relisten straight away i was so intent on the series (i work in a job which allows me to listen to my ipod for the duration).I find this to be easily the most entertaining series of all the fantasy books. (im halfway through LOT Rand i dont feel the connection to any of the characters or excitement about anything and frodo is boring i rather listen to perrin whinge about faieel) Its amazing how many things you notice on the second time through, such as all the characters mentioned in the first book that end up popping up later such as Talanvor, aram and buelen…

Just curious. Are there fans who like those less plot-heavy volumes? If so, why? And which is your favorite? Um, please don't spoil me, I'm only halfway through EotW!

I've been re-reading the series due to some inconsistencies I noted in later books. One of these is in the prologue of The Dragon Reborn. In a discussion Niall has with Carridan, he is up to date with all else going on but mentions three false dragons in various areas. We know one to be Rand and the other to be Taim, but who is the third? We know from book 2 that Logain has already been captured and gentled by the White Tower. Is there yet another False Dragon? I've also thought that perhaps Thom Merrilin starts out as a Darkfriend due to other happenings, although i will have to wait and see in AMoL if he truly is hiding something... It seems that this changes once …

I've seen bits and pieces of this argument elsewhere scattered over many threads often off topic, if you feel that it should go elsewhere don't hesitate to move/ delete it, but could you let me know where it should go, and I will follow it up there :) My somewhat theory/ belief about the dragon soul, it's abilities and what has and will happen in the world of tWoT. There is little referencing because I am lazy and don't want to scrounge for quotes and anyone who has debated or thought about this before will already know them and this would just be pointless re-iteration. Remembering that this what I think, you are welcome to add your own ideas or disprove with quotes…

At the beginning of ToM we get a little excerpt of Loial's The Dragon Reborn. He says that their ancestors were standing outside the Steddings looking in. Why were they standing outside? Why weren't they roaming thier old houses or trees like humans? Maybe Steddings are actually outside the fabric of the Pattern. Whats your thoughts?

Well obviously I am brand new to this website (1st post!) but I am not that new to WoT. Read through the series twice without ever really discussing the series with anybody (aside from my brother and only a little bit.) I just went on amazon to see what the books were rated and I want to know what the hard core fans think. If you were forced to order the 14 books that are out (including new spring) what would that list look like? Oh and i just finished new spring for the first time (I never even knew it existed!) and it was awesome. I think i would have been miserable reading it as a first book (before eye of the world) but i just loved reading about Moiraine + Si…

I am having trouble figuring out where the title comes from. When I first heard the title I remembered a map in the WoT Guide that has a Towers of Midnight in Seandar. It probably references the Tower of Genjei, but I think there has to be more. This has probably been discussed, but I couldn't find it.

The last we see of Graendal, she is being given a pep talk by Shaidar. He says that somebody else has been entrusted with the task of doing Rand (paraphrasing) when G tries to get off the hook by offering to do something about Rand. Is that somebody Shaidar mentioned, Cyndane? Or is it Moridin, using Cyndane? There is a difference although Moridin controls Cyndane. Moridin has the link and might not be terribly enthusiastic about killing Rand if push comes to shove though he would certainly be interested in trapping Rand. He's also a powerful Dreamer and very capable of setting up the scene and torturing Cyndi in order to get a reaction out of Rand. …

So anyway, how does Slayer know this information? I believe the fact that Slayer does know that he is a relative of Rand might have some signficance in the Last Battle. The series is gearing up to have a family reunion of sorts near/on Shayol Ghul. Galad appears to know that he is Rand's half-brother thanks to a letter from Verin. Galad/Slayer/Rand will combine all of Rand's relatives into one epic finale. But why is this so important? Anyone have any ideas? Clearly Slayer will have a major role or Perrin would have already killed him off in ToM.

The generally accepted theory is that he is the King of Murandy. That doesn't sit well with me. The evidence is pretty good and it certainly could be the answer, but it would be a disappointment if Demandred gathers an army from one of the weakest nations in Randland. So unless he's armed them with shocklances or something it would be a personal let down for me. But what about Seanchan mainland? Do we really think the Forsaken would leave such a large force untapped? Seanchan is a huge land. The chunk that came with the Return was just a small part of them. They have huge armies and hundreds of Damane. Those are resources that a Forsaken could be p…

I am halfway through EOTW and have read the New Spring Graphic Novel, in addition to "Strike At Shayol Ghul" and "Ravens" and I am becoming utterly absorbed. There are frustrating weaknesses to Jordan's prose that could so easily have been corrected but (so far) they do not take away from the impression that you are reading the work of a "man of letters." For all the little faults there is a feeling of depth here that leaves other modern fantasy series far behind. To be honest it is this sense of deep thought and painstaking work, not the ad-hoc Englishisms and archaisms, that give his writing a feeling of "actual imagined history." You can almost feel the presence o…

RJ have said or at least hinted that one age of the Wheel could be our age, and that there are ages of the wheel when there is no channeling available. Then i have to wonder, all the Angreal, Sa'angreal and Ter'Angreal, all the Portal Stones and all the other items created with the One Power, where are they now? Unless all things created with the One Power get destroyed, there should be SOMETHING left and yes, even though no one can channel to make them work, there are some that dont need a channeler to function. So, my question: what items out in our world do you think could be an item created by the One Power and if so, what kind (Sa / Ter / angreal) and if Ter…

Hello all long time lurker first time poster! (Please be gentle) Instead of adding my thoughts to the end of several "dead" threads I thought it might be better to throw all my musing in one post and let you all have at it (if that was the wrong choice I'm sorry) Anyway I have interpetations on a few prophecies we see throughtout the series that I have yet to see here (Please correct me if I'm wrong theres ALOT to read through and check) These may have likely been suggested and debunked before and I lack to the depth of knowledge many of you here have I'm mostly going by my gut and perspective when reading these. "First Among Vermin lifts his hand to bring…

Seriously though. It does seem like the Creator has just played one cruel joke on humanity. Like, making us go around in incessant circles, repeatedly subjecting the humans to the Dark One and all of his minions. And really, do the DOs plans seem all that bad? He wants to break time. That's what we're certain of, and would that not break humanity of the endless circles? The one problem I can find here is that. Well. Mr. DO is trying to achieve his goals through rather...direct methods. But then, if you had been imprisoned since the dawn of time, wouldn't you get a little frustrated? All in all, it seems like the Creator seems to be doing a lot of ignoring while the DO…

First, apologies if this has already been discussed, tried the search function of the forum with no result. When browsing the pages trying to find info for another thread I came across Rand's thoughts as he was leaving Emond's Field. He thought to himself that no matter how long the journey is and no matter how far it will take him he will come back. I'm wondering if we are going to see him go back home. I can't think of any reason for him to go there now, but may be in the epilogue of AMOL?

We're given some descriptions of Min's visions. This is how they go. She meets somebody and see pictures whirling around their heads. Warders and channelers have more pictures in general. There are no sounds. Sometimes she can interpret the pictures and she offers her interpretation. Sometimes she just sees the pictures without understanding what they mean. Sometimes she misinterprets. Some examples: 1) AS dead in the WT - several in TSR. We're given both descriptions and correct interpretations. 2) Fireflies in the dark surrounding Rand, Perrin. She "knows" Perrin must be there twice for Rand or something bad will happen. Vision and interpretation offered - …

So was flipping through PoD yesterday and came across this in the chapter where Cyndane and Moghedien visit Graendal (page 289 in the PB edition). "He would ride horses to death to reach Ituralde, and if that message, delivered by Alsalam's close cousin, supposedly coming from the King himself with Gray Men trying to stop it, did not satisfy the Great Lord's command to increase chaos, nothing would, short of balefire. And it would serve her own ends nicely as well. Her own ends." There is the well known theory of Demandred using balefire for some purpose at the DO's command (a theory that Sanderson said we should all be paying attention to for some reason)so I won't…

I'd love to see Hopper come back as a Hero of the Horn(not even sure it's possible). This would b so amazing and I think I will actually cheer if it happens. I'd like to know what everybody else would like to see in the final book. Not necessarily something major that ties up a plot thread, just something, anything, that will have an emotional pull on you.

The following is an idea that has bounced round my head for a few days so i thought it might be fun to share them with you kind folks. Please enjoy reading them as much as they amused me while driving. Deleted Scenes and Outtakes Part One. The Eye of the World Battle at the Eye take 31 Rand ran until his lungs burned and his hands and wrists were scored to bleeding by the rocks in the mountainside as he scrambled upward to safety he hoped. Light he hoped Egwene was safely away by now. He stumbled into a clearing and kept running a few more paces until he saw what lay before him. A raw cliff face stretched out below him for hundreds of feet, despairin…

This was mentioned on the podcast, but discussed after the question answer section. The basic relationships that started early I thought were somewhat obvious. Lan, and Nynaeve were obvious in my opinion. First when Nynaeve found him and moiraine and managed to sneak up on Lan. Then his outright concern during the rescue of Egwene and Perrin later outside the steading, especially mixed with his confidence, and lingering look. Not to mention the big reveal at Malkier. First book. Tom and Moiraine, I thought was apparent, but not obvious until . . I think it was TSR, when Moiraine said that she likely, the term was "Know the face of the man I will more than y…

Aviendha's vision in the column t'erangreal draws upon Aviendha as she is then, and shows what will happen if she remains the same. She won't. That is why Min said there was something wrong with her viewing of Aviendha's babes. I think she will give up Rand, and as Elayne is now her first-sister, Elayne must as well. In the last couple of books, I found Aviendha presented as much more Aiel in attitude than I would have expected given her time with Elayne and among the wetlanders. I think this was done because it is this Aiel mindset, that if unchanged, will lead to the future that she saw. It would also resolve the marriage problem, assuming that the current arrangement w…

Well i was reading that "can anyone stop Fain" thread and someone brought up Perrin finishing him off. So that got me thinking, every special item in WoT seems to have a specific purpose, even if at the time it isn't apparent right away. Like Matt's Ashandarei opening the Tower, i think Perrin's Mah'alleinir will have a "Plot Power" too. Now, since Perrin doesn't really have any obvious plot path to whinge about and slowly trundle along now, there must be a good reason for him to have it. What could it be? Could it be an anti-Fain/Mashadar? After all Fain was responsible for the death of his family. Otherwise, what other plot tool could it perform? Ca…
