I just had a random theory and I'm sorry if somebody already made one like that but I had to write it down before forgetting lol. So anyway I was wondering about the light/darkness in Rand's mind. Now there have been some theories about a light power needed to balance the TP out. Well what if they are one and the same? Now I'm not really sure about this but I presume that the madness seen in Rand's and the Ashaman's minds connects them with the DO. Rand was almost driven to the dark side by it. Now we know that the Forsaken draw the TP from their link with the DO. If there is darkness like that in their minds and that is their connection to him then that could expla…

At the very beginning of WOT we have the final confrontation between Ishamael and Lews Therin Telamon. When LTT kills himself and thus creates Dragonmount, the description suggests that he used Balefire on himself--and a great whopping huge amount of it as well. Enough, it would seem, not just to eliminate his immediate past but his whole being. If so, why is he still in the Pattern? Was it not Balefire he used? If it was Balefire, but not enough to eradicate him from the Pattern, it should still have wiped out the death of Ilyena. Am I wrong? Did Jordan just not think this through, or am I off base?

Both are mentioned in quotes relating to the Dragon (Taralan in tDR, Arvalon in LoC). They both seem to be corruptions of Tar Valon. So, what does this mean? Are they from the same city but centuries apart? Or are there two cities based on Tar Valon in the 4th age (maybe Tar Valon is destroyed in the Last Battle)?

I went to the signing and to the Q&A session with BS today at the Polaris convention in Toronto. He didn't reveal anything major but he did say a few interesting things. He said that up until the last few weeks of his life RJ didn't want anybody to finish the books in case he died and even wanted all the notes, outlines etc destroyed. He only changed his mind a few weeks before his death. I suspect he mentioned this in prior interviews but this was the first I've heard about it myself. He said that the scene with the borderlander farmers in tGS prologue and the one with the borderlander Watch Tower in ToM prologue were written by RJ and that they were some…

Okay, so I usually don't enter forum discussions since there's about as many opinions as there are people, and I prefer to wait until the fact get out. I have to face though that writers doesn't necessarily reveal everything; even when a book is finished. So here I am which leads me to my question/crazy theory. Is there a possibility that the memories the Eelfin gave Mat is actually memories from past lives akin to the type Rand had? I know there are counter points. For one, I cannot recall if he actually has memories from two people from the same battle. Then there is the whole question of how the pattern work. I seem to recall Birgitte telling Elayne that some p…

The nature of Rand Sedai I'm taking this argument over here in hopes that it will revitalize my interest, that I might possibly gain support from people who have easier access to quotes, and because I wanted to The title of the thread says it all, there seems to be some controversy on whether or not Rand is LTT. I contend that he is because the last two books seem to scream this in my opinion, at least from his own pov's, but it does seem to slightly contradict a quote of RJ's where he said every incarnation of a soul is a different person. Just to give further fuel for everyone's fiery arguments (Burn me!): - How does Rand's situation compare to the oth…

Does anyone know if Harriet McDougal is still a working editor for TOR books? My agent is going to be shopping an epic fantasy novel of mine this autumn & I think it is something she would appreciate. But I am unclear if she is still active as an editor or if she only works on the WOT books now. Any info would be appreciated!

An idea about Callandor in the onyx hand (and the rest of the ending). I was listening to Rhapsody of Fire. They have made a series of albums about the Emerald Sword. This mighty sword (type Callandor) is captured by the evil, and everything seems lost until someone high and powerful betrays the dark. Now this is my theory: Rand goes to the Shayol Ghul with Callandor. In his circle are Nynaeve and Alivia. When there, they "meet" Demandred and Moridin. Alivia leads the circle. At once, Alivia kills Rand (because she is a Darkfriend). Instead of just dieing, Rand comes into Moridins body, and tells Moridin (who still had control) what he found out in VoG. At the same mo…

Chapter 33 of TGH was an interesting one. In addition to Verin's suspicious private chat with Barthanes, a known Darkfriend, this particular line had me interested, when Rand, Hurin, and Loial return from their Waygate adventure in Barthanes's manor: "Ingtar looked a little dazed." And then Verin walks off as soon as she sees them. It made me wonder if she used Compulsion on him. That wasn't the first time Ingtar acted strangely in the presence of Verin. In an earlier chapter, Hurin was stunned by his behavior of saying "I must have the horn! I must!". It is not the Shienarin way to say 'must' -- to them whatever comes, comes, even for something as important as retrie…

Well many people think the series as a whole is unwieldy. We all know about certain things that should have not been put into the books. Stuff that didn't add to the plot and just held down the books. Its a brilliant series but way to bloated. What would people think about TOR releasing the books in another edition but with certain elements cut. Streamlining the series of these elements? And if so which elements should be cu? I'm not sure If I'm for it myself but it is an interesting idea. If the books were cut it would be a lot easier to gain attention from new readers to the books series, It would flow a heck of a lot better and certain characters would be easier to…

**** Some spoilers from ToM, just in case you have not read!!!***** I read the ideas all the way up to ToM, and have not returned (I know, shame on me) since, except to get book updates and such. But I was reading ToM again, in preparation of MoL, and I was getting to where Rand returns to Tear and lines everyone up to "see" if the were darkfriends. The scene right before that happens in Tear regards Alanna's disappearance... so she was NOT there for the line up, and if memory serves me right, Rand has not seen her since he got his new powers. In book 4, we see Verin warning Perrin to be careful around Alanna... we as an au…

if I remember correctly, it's in TGS that Moridin says that there is a right time for Rand to die. That being said, we know there is a connection between Rand and Moridin so that could be a reason he doesn't want him dead but at that time in the book, Moridin doesn't seem aware that they are connected so that shouldn't matter. What's the reasoning for keeping him alive? Is it to try and drive Rand into deeper madness for the DO to take control or something else?

Question the First: Near the beginning of the book, Min and Co are talking about Alanna, and how she seems to have completely disappeared. She vanished in the night, apparently, and when Rand shows back up, he comments that she went somewhere north. Possibly the Borderlands. Pg 189, Towers of Midnight [An Empty Ink Bottle]: ~~ "Alanna is gone," Sarene continued, unruffled. "Vanished right from her chambers. The Defenders, they didn't see her go, and there was no sign of a Gateway." "Oh. Well, let's go then." Nynaeve bustled out of the chamber. "And I'm telling you that I felt nothing," Corele said. She smiled, tapping the side of her nose. "I don't know how s…

This has been going through my head for a while now. I personally have no problem with Perrin and Failes relationship. It can be over the top at times, but I would have reacted in a similar fashion as Perrin if anything happened to my wife. As a side note, I am not trying to offend anyone if they take this the wrong way. I was just curious if there is a correlation. Thank you

I can't imagine this hasn't been discussed earlier, but I never saw it. So: What does "birth" mean in that prophecy everyone knows by heart? Does it have anything to do with the theories of Elayne giving birth to her children, or is it something completely else?

There are some questions, or maybe discussion points, about TAR. The first: What about entering it? All Forsaken (and also Rand Sedai) can freely enter it. Do you think they are all Dreamers? Not likely. For men, it is even rarer than for women, and here we have nine men who can enter TAR. So entering TAR has nothing to do with Dreaming. Or, at least, you can enter TAR without being a Dreamer. So maybe everyone can learn entering TAR, but it's just more likely to learn it for Dreamers. And a Forsaken somewhere thought about changing things, and that he/she didn't have very much control, but enough to wear what he/she wanted. So also not-Dreamers can get more control than …

Now that the Faile and Berelain conflict has been defused by their new trust and friendship I predict Egwene and Fortuona will have a sharp confrontation. It seems destined that they will meet when Fortuona launches her all out attack against against Tar Valon using her new found Gateway ability. Expect lots of figurative hair pulling and eye gouging, especially if the Seanchan damane manage to shield (but not collar) Egwene and Fortuona starts to expound about the joys of sul'damhood... I expect even Mat will not escape having his ears singed when Egwene learns he has not only "fraternized" with a Seanchan Noble Lady (and sul'dam) but actually married her! Good th…

So I'm reading ToM, and during the battles a thought came to me. Why not have your Aes Sedai or Asha'man open a gateway to a point high up in the air above your enemy? You could lean out and scout them, or drop fireballs from way out of long bow range. For that matter, just randomly opening momentary gateways in the enemy's camp would probably slice up tons of enemy soldiers. Opening one in the enemy general's tent at night may decapitate their leadership. Opening one in the middle of a siege engine would reduce it to scrap. Is everyone locked into a mental picture of gateways as a Traveling device? Davram Bashere was there when Rand first used Deathgates. …

There are already threads (Dragonmount) and theories (Theoryland) about this, but I want to have a thread only for this part, not aside in something larger, as it is with those threads and theories. My questions are (related to each other): "Is the Wheel good? and "Is the Dark One evil?" So why do I ask this? The men are trapped in an endless repeat (there has to be a better word. But I don't know it) of all events. If the Wheel (not the Pattern, the Wheel) is broken, maybe there will be a linear time. With a Pattern, controlled by the deeds of mankind, instead of the Wheel. And if so, the Dark One would not be evil (except if you don't want a linear time)…

For the longest time I have been wondering how to expand and give more life to the WoT series. If we as a community came together with Brandon Sanderson and his associates to make a sort of encyclopedia detailing the magic system in these books then that alone may make it more likely to be made into a movie, a video game, or have more books written by other Authors as well. Just think, we could make whatever we want with the Wheel of Time, as long as it is consistent and plausible! Who says that the Wheel of Time is really a wheel at all? Is that just a popular term people used for something nobody has known about for more than 3000 years? It could be that …

I am almost finished with LoC and once again I am just furious with how these three women treat Matt. That Elayne seems to think she has a right to bother with his medallion .. wow how arrogant can you get? Just all three of them being self righteous witches just makes me boil heh.

I know that when we are reading tEotW for the first time, we don't know as much as we do once we finish the released books. But at the same time, wtf!?!? She does so many things - taking their scent and throwing it to distract the trollocs/fades, pulling the fog to hide where they are - things like that, that seem to not happen as time goes on. Seems like the OP is only used for moving chairs/lifting people, throwing fire balls for protection, and traveling. she utilizes it all so much at first and out of nowhere all of that just stops.

According to Moraine, not even the entire White Tower could destroy Mashadar. Moraine said that if Mordeth escaped the world was doomed. The Choden Khal was needed to completely cleanse Shadar Logoth. Thus even a sa'angreal like Callandor would be insufficient for the task. Even an army of gholam would die before Mashadar, since it can suck the life out of anything living and even infect the none living. Fain now controls Mashadar. Fain easily kills an army of Trollocs and actually turns them into more powerful zombie versions using Mashadar. Jordan has confirmed he is something entirely new. What can even the new and improved Dragon d…

I have, as of July 30th 2011, read up through the 9th book two times now. Between readings I had the chance of taking multiple philosophy classes and have gone through great personal change to my beliefs of freedom and respect. After reading the second time it is hard for me not to hate the White Tower and all of its "so-called Aes Sedai," as Moridin and many of the forsaken refer to them. I admit that the system of training Novices to Aes Sedai is useful, but it is largely oppressive. The arrogance of Aes Sedai pains me as I read the books. I understand that they want to ensure the survival of the world and the keeping of peace, but they shouldn't have to look do…

I see one of the biggest criticisms about the wheel of time is Sexism but i dont see how its much worse if any then real life. In real life i always see girls my age talking about a guy when he starts talking to them saying things like "oh he just wants to get in your pants" "or he doesnt really care hes a male". I also work with middle aged ladies at work and being one of the few males (im 20) there they constantly criticize there husbands for being lazy because they are males or other related sexist comments such as oh im suprised you noticed i got a hair cut (because males dont normally notice that). Then you hear males talking about women today and they often…
