  1. Started by Arc,

I dunno about all of you, but when reading, especially fantasy with a lot of characters who's ages aren't often clearly mentioned, I tend to give my imagination free rein and not minding ages except for thoughts like: 'his old' or 'she's young to very young' etc. So I stumbled upon the Age-page of the Thriteenth depository the other day, and curious as I was I scrolled down and had some real shocking experiences. Here are a few: First of all (As I stated on another topic) Lan is only 47, and not amidst his 50's or 60's as many seem to believe. Quite a suprise for me to. Furthermore Logain and Mazrim turned out to be only (figuratively) youngsters, respectively bei…

Does anyone believe or hope that the final volume will contain at least a moderate amount of real tragedy, main characters, vital characters, killed, relationships destroyed? If this series ends with every single one of the main characters alive, well, married, living happily ever after, Rand having escaped his fate living in a happy Mormon-esque marriage (Big Love in Randland), Perrin and Faile Lord and Lady of the Two Rivers, Matt and Tuon Emperor and Empress of Seanchan, Tom and Moiraine, Nynaeve and Lan, and on and on and on...I think I will burn my copy in protest.

So I got to wondering while reading a chapter about the Seanchan, The Seanchan have captured many marath'damane (Randland Aes Sedai) And with the exception of the occassional Accepted or Novice All of these women have taken the Three Oaths, Oaths so strong as To cause someone to literally choke on a lie. So how is it that the Seanchan can use the a'dam to force them To use the Power as a weapon? Could the Aes Sedai turned damane then lie while leashed? I guess my question is: Are leashed Aes Sedai still held by the Three Oaths while leashed?

Even if you were a very unpleasent, cruel and greedy person, would it be worth the cost to become a darkfriend? Many darkfriends have suffered terrible fates, not just in the hands of the lightsided charkters. Many have been hurt, tortured and hummiliated by other darkfriends, forsaken or the dark one himself. For example a much larger percentage of the black sisters have suffered terrible fates than "light" sisters have.

Well hello everyone this is my first day on here, I just finished Towers of Midnight and well there feels to be a vacuum in my life now lol. My friend gave me New Spring and the first three books last summer at well exactly this time of year i guess and i have been reading them non stop pretty much since then. I never thought i would be done with them but its almost over and well i dont want it to end, besides havin to wait for the last book. I have created a psychological dependency by having an emotional attachment to fantastical characters will someone yell at me and tell me its just a book!

Trollocs are stronger and more powerful than humans, but they lack discipline, and even when controlled by Myrdraal, they seem incapable of mounting any kind of effective strategy other than "the charge". One would think that in the Age of Legends, where soldiers fought with "Shock Lances", a Trolloc army would be slaughtered. Why then, do the Shadow continue to use Trollocs as their main fighting force?

I am new to this site and blogging in general. I recently started re-reading the whole WoT series. I am homeless and had my back pack stolen along with my library copy of Crown of Swords. I was wondering if any one has a copy of the book they coul part with. And yes I am a charity case. It would realy be appreciated. Thanks

  10. I'm skeptical of believing this is new, theories rarely are. So if this is discussed elsewhere please just point. I did a quick forum and google search but found nothing similar. Just finished TEotW once again but in Audio book form. I heard they were particularly good, and they have been so far. But I had this thought: At the very end of TEotW there's the floating steps that rand ascends to a floating doorway that he explodes on touch to enter Issy's room. The same room (I believe) that some of their dreams took place in. Floating staircase seemed odd, don't see anything like that. You can't lift yourself with the OP, even standing on something. I suppose you could s…

Hey there, It seems that many of the world's available armed forces are being marshalled in Merrilor presumably for the purpose of Rand's prosecution of the last battle. There are a number of notable forces not present, however, and I thought it might be interesting to discuss them. If you know of a force that merits a mention, please post about them. Here are a few to get us started: 1) Shen an Calhar and the armsmen of Andor/Cairhein Understandably their role in the near future will be the defense of Caemlyn and Cairhein but, at the least, Mat himself will need to show up with Rand's contingent when Tarmon Gai'don arrives. 2) The Shaido I have no ide…

  12. So. This spectacular theor--conjecture has a soli--ok, flimsy basis in this quote... So here's the thing--Moiraine's logic, however accurate, points us to something rather curious--the Dark One, in Shaidar Haren, has found a body--though perhaps an avatar would be a better way to phrase it. In any case its clear that Shaidar Haren doesn't entirely house the Dark One--but what if he is the key. In some way Rand forces the Dark One to fully inhabit Shaidar Haren--and thus, because he has become physical, he would also therefor be kill-able.

In the Great Hunt, when Rand and Loail are being chased through the foregate by trollocs, has it ever been confirmed if they are Fain's trollocs looking for the Horn or if they were brought in by Lanfear to goad Rand.

This had had me wondering for the longest if RJ mixed up the two types of flag. This is a banner: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banner This is a Standard: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heraldic_standard#Standard Now, it seems to me the description is that of a standard, not a banner. What do you guys think?

I want to see what everyone thinks of the differences and simularities between the modern Aes Sedai and the ones from the AoL. From what I have read, in RJ's blogs and other credible sources, the Hall of Servants were not a political group, as the White Tower is. In fact, prior to the drilling of the Bore, and the War of Power, they had no actually controll of the politics and leadership of the world. The Hall of Servants was ran more like a guild than anything. They passed laws to regulate the use of the One Power, and tried, and sentenced those who abused it. Most members of the Hall had normal, regular jobs, only coming together when there was need of their pow…

  16. Just came across Isam's WoT summaries today (read them if you haven't; they're extremely funny) and thought I'd try writing one for ToM. Unfortunately I don't have Isam's wit, but I hope someone still enjoys it... And if anyone else feels like giving it a try, feel free to post it in this thread. Towers of Midnight - The Abridged Version Lan: I ride alone. Towards a noble, lonely death. Bulen: Your wife said you'd be here. She put up flyers, too. Lan: Burn that woman! ----------- Graendal: I'm bored. There's nothing to do here except have orgies and I've already worn out most of my servants. Aran'gar: Fine. I will go make out with Delana. Graendal: What ar…

I was checking out their calendar in the Glossary, and they seem to have 365 days a year and "extra days" (e.g. leap year.) They also have 4 seasons, so the axial tilt of their planet is also the same. Many animals are also recognizable as having been on Earth: cats, dogs, vermin, horses, giraffes, elephants, flounder, etc. They rarely mention looking at the moon, but there are references to one, and I believe moonlight is also mentioned. If you squint at the map, it looks like Europe, although geographic features are in different places as is the weather (but this can be explained by continental drift and the Breaking.) Non-magical elements seem to be similar and in simi…

So... As I keepin reading the books over and over, Taim is more and more of a sketchy charicter. My personal belief is that he is Demandred seeing as how he is seen quoting, "Let the Lord of Chaos rule." A phrase that Demandred has also said to Graendal and Semirhage. But maybe that's just me wanting to see him get his sorry butt kicked all the way back to Shayol Ghul. What are your opinions?

I constantly see people saying that at least one of the main three should have died at some point, to create more suspense or some rubbish. Problem there is that their survival is one of the most important components of a good-guy ending. Seen through Min's viewings when Rand and Perrin are together (little lights going into shadow). That said, if it wasn't crucial that they survived, it would have been nice for one of them - or at least one of the other peripherals to die.

something that has been bugging me for a long time about this series. Why are there no trolloc archers? It doesn't take a whole lot of brains to shoot a bow, they have the numbers for it, and it would make more sense than the stock "run at the enemy until all of you die, or break through them.

The Aes Sedai keeps talking about how they have to guide the Dragon..but they know absolutely nothing about what the Dragon is supposed to do other than some rudimentary knowledge of the "Karaethon Cycle"..Moraine did not know that Rand had to go the Aiel, she advised against coming out of the waste etc. They had no knowledge about the Forsaken nor did they know anything about how to teach Rand to use saiden. Now Egwene the new Amyrlin has no idea what to do with the seals or how to approach the Last Battle but she still wants to "guide" the dragon. Such epic uselessness and delusion cannot even be fathomed.

  24. I've known for a while now that Verin is Black Ajah. When I first heard she had a big moment in TGS, my first guess was, actually, that she was Black Ajah, but not a typical Black sister. Anyways, I went on to guess she'd be giving out names of other Black sisters. I didn't quite know how that would work out, as the Black Ajah is organized into "hearts", so as to preserve the identities of its many members. Anyways, my guesses were right, and I had, perhaps mostly unintentionally, read some comments about this prior to reaching that part of TGS. But today, finally, after three or so weeks of reading TGS, I've reached that glorious chapter where Verin drops in. And it gave…

I don't know if this topic would be allowed but I have thought about this topic alot. I fear treading on this topic but I come honestly curious. The rationale behind the use of damane is to control a dangerous person, the root of it being that the channelers back in seanchan then were power hungry and destructive. The warder bond was started to give the AS security but it can be used to compel the warder and to be honest it makes them more like guard dogs. The slave system in Seanchan makes property out of people but we have been shown that not all of them resent it, in fact aside from those who are criminals or have been punished they seem to be honored by thei…

  26. I cant be the only one... Seriously... She does sweet crap all 90% of the time, her only claim to fame is her "new healing skillz" and she didnt work to attain those, she got em by accident. All in all, an unworthy, over inflated [removed]. That said she's better than most Aes Sedai who are just plain childish. On the flipside, i love Egwene. She's always working away to achieve something and doesn't bitch and moan about stuff she cant change. She gets results. Feel free to fan fict out the scene in which you think she'll (finally) be slaughtered =D

  27. so I finished the gathering storm the other day and have to say I really enjoyed it, I like how sanderson is less wordy and gets to the point a lot quicker altho I do think a few of the characters were a tiny bit different than they would have been under jordan, yet I still could hardly put it down. I loved egwene's end...just wish she'd been a little more patient and waited til she was back in the tower to crack down on the black ajah like that (tho I guess if she had got them all there wouldn't be enough dreadlords or whatever for the last battle). rand's end was a little more anticlimactic, I mean he thought for a while and had an epiphany? I kept thinking "veins of go…

I dk if this question is simple.... In "The Extra bit" Ch 26, PoD Logain captures Toveine. He is so badass in these parts. <3 Anyway, Toveine is all freaked out that Logain is holding her with saidin and she is screaming and Logain begs her to calm down. She doesn´t and then he apologizes and kisses her. She gets warm and bubbly, starts vibrating and shatters. Voila. Logain has some uberCompulsion on her, and can make her do anything he wants. How does this Compulsion really work, and why do they have to kiss them for it to work? I remember that Graendal said if you used too much Compulsion the person would be like a robot and that that wasn´t desireable. Is t…

Considering that they are the recipients of all the surviving knowledge about the OP from the AoL, how is it that of the 3 main groups of OP fighters, they are by far weakest compared to the Damane and the Ashaman? The Captain General of their battle Ajah, admitted that she had no idea about the weaves being used against them in the WT attack by the Damane. If this is the state of the Battle Ajah then we can only imagine what the other Ajah's are capable of. Hopefully the Dragon has no plan to actually use them in the field during the LB.
