  1. Started by Dagan,

I'm having trouble understanding when the Forsaken were released exactly? It's unclear whether Ishamael was never sealed, or if he was only partially sealed. I've only read through the series one time, having jsut finished KoD a few weeks ago, so maybe i'm not remembering properly. I'd also like to note that I haven't read the prequel: A New Spring Well what triggered their release? Was it rand's birth? Did they "wake up" one at a time, like one every few years or so? I always assumed they've been awake in this world for quite some time, unless by some miraculous coincidence they woke up at the same time the book began, with the dragon reborn being 20 years o…

So yeah this is the Tinkers yeah, or at least thats the assumption i've been working on for generations

  6. Started by Arkelias,

There are so many amazing moments in the WoT that I almost feel selfish posting this, but I'm bored at work so why not? Certain fights in the series could have been amazing, but ended up a letdown. The first for me was: #1- Mat vs. Couladin I'd been waiting for this fight the whole book, though at first I assumed it would be Rand vs. Couladin. When the big moment finally comes we get...a flashback? Boo =( #2- Rand vs. Sammael This fight has been building since Moraine, Lan, Perrin and Faile first passed through Illian in book 2. When Rand and Sammael finally fight Rand nearly kills himself but is saved by Moridin. Sammael is killed by mashadar (I…

When you swear on the oath rod to obey someone (like galina), if the person whom they are sworn to obey states that they dont want them to be affected by One Power manipulation will they still be bond by the rod? I know it doesn't matter, I'm just curious.

  8. Started by Wesley_O,

Alright, sorry if I do anything wrong here, this is my first topic. But, after almost completing my second re-read of the WoT series, I have noticed that several of the current/ to be rulers of certain countries can all touch the TS. Elayne-Andor, Cairhien (as long as Moiraine doesn't get this) Tuon- would be able to if she could be convinced Seanchan/ Seanchan held areas. Rand- if he lives (however it occurs); anywhere he decides to hold onto. Also possibly Mat and/ or Perrin can channel (never actually tested) and will most likely have thrones. So, I'm wondering what everyone thinks about the rulers possibly living for 300+ years as well as their hei…

  9. we saw the guy come from no where in shador lagoth in ACOS. He actually helps rand and because of him sammael is dead. now why would ishamael reborn help rand al thor against one his own? especially when in winter's heart he gives the order to capture or kill rand al thor's attempt to cleanse saidin. It seems to me that this whole business of trying to convert someone to the dark side is absolutely hog wash when it comes to rand. Ishy failed twice and died in book 3. what the hell is he and shaitan playing at? Book 7 would have been the perfect timing for moridin to off his rand al thor. instead his forsaken troops are dropping like flies and getting captur…

  10. Started by Jameric,

Of course I do believe that one of their main goals in the White Tower attacks is of course the Elimination of the White Tower, which we all know will fail. The point I want to raise is, what I think their primary goal in the attack will be: the horn of valor. Now since Turak had it, and we know Tuon knows it exsists and has been sounded. They also know their were Aes Sedia at Falme. So it is a possibility they have reasoned out where the horn has to be. And according to Tuon, the horn sounder is nearly as important as the dragon reborn in her book. Also I think it would make for a great story arc. It would give the Seanchan some leverage in the last battle. Rand wou…

  11. Obviously any questions that are real spoilers won't be answered, but I've got a few which shouldn't stretch any agreement not to reveal the story details. 1. Given it was an advanced reading copy of some sort, can you give us any indication of the length of the book? Does it end up longer or shorter then KOD? 2. Are there any new POV's? Note I'm not asking who, what they say/think or any details about the POV. 3. Any new chapter icons? (or didn't those make it in yet?). 4. How large was the prologue in relation to the rest of the book? 20%, 25%, more, less? (In the increasingly forlorn hope it's released as an e-book). Thanks.

  12. II was thinking about the Rand is Mad debate. Rand is considered to be insane because he hears LTT speaking in his head. And has memories from LTT's life drifting into his. Well that coupled with crippling grief a lack of self preservation and a few other things that I don’t want to go into right now but it got me thinking. Mat has some things in common with him. Long before he goes to visit Finnland (which is not so bad. honestly no matter what the Swedish say). Mat starts speaking in the Old Tongue ("Carai al Elisande....") and there is a distinct case of an old life drifting through into his consciousness when he is being Healed in the White Tower…

In KOD, Elayne is trying to use footpads to follow Captain Mellar, a man she suspects as being a darkfriend. They keep getting killed. However, the last one she uses is a criminal so she lays a weaving on him called a finding, basically meaning she can know where he's at at any time. I read the chapter twice looking for some explanation, but I can't figure out why she just doesn't cast this same weave on Mellar. She can invert the weaves so a sister wouldn't see the finding, so why not cast it on his belt buckle and use that to track him from a distance? Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems pretty silly for her to send man after man to their deaths if …

  14. Started by mb,

This thread is to determine which characters would be best at fighting. A number of the polls choices may seem silly, but I think people aught to have the chance to choose them if they wish. A number of the choices may seem redundant with others, but I think there is some degree of distinction between them. First group of options relate to where they live. Second group of options relate to the weapons they use. Third group of options are people that are spread through-out various locations, starting with people that could be considered as organizations. The groups after the third are non-human. Last option covers anything that the previous options migh…

  15. What I'm looking for is a breakdown of which forsaken showed up, and what happened with them. I remember Osan'gar (Asmodean) getting killed, but I can't remember what happened to Cyndane (Lanfear), Demandred or Graendal. I know someone out there probably knows off the top of their head. Also, a good description of how Rand cleansed the true source would be good. I remember him gathering it into a giant black ball, and I think that ball wiped out Shadar Logoth. Thanks for the help guys!

  16. Started by Olorin,

Just wondered (and possibly this has been covered, I did do a search of the forums before posting this) if anyone knows if RJ used Harriet as inspiration for any of his characters and if so, who?

  17. I have always wondered why Shai'tan would need someone to rule the would in his place. I mean, why would the most powerful being in the universe want to share power? I came to the conclusion. The Dark One doesn't need the Nae'Blis to rule for him, but to be him. I believe, that Shai'tan is actual the essence, the spirit, if you will, of pure evil. He does not have a physical body of his own. So he must take someone else's. I believe the Nae'Blis is going to have their soul destroyed so that the Dark One can take their body.

Seriously, how could a human being run (very fast) and keep it up all day? Look at marathon runners, they're quite fast but after an hour or 4 they are exhausted and they are the fittest people on this planet. How can the Aiel keep this up? It keeps bothering me when i read the series, it's just not realistic.....

  22. Started by dmanmiller34,

OK so one thing that i have thought about. If the Aiel war (to kill Laman) was the first time the Aiel came out of the waste how did they know about Lan? Malkier Fell before the aiel war so that would mean that they had never come out of the waste yet. Who LAn is isn't really all that common of knowledge on the randland side of the Spine so how did it get to be so famous among the Aiel in the space of 40 years (estimate) when they never really had any contact with that side of the world? I mean they saluted him as that at the begining of the New spring so it would have to have been before the Aiel war. I don't know. maybe you guys know something I don't.

  23. Started by Tyrell,

Been re-reading TGH - If she had told him that she wouldn't then she shouldn't be able to; if not then why does she remember doing so? That even Rand can ask "Do you think he was talking about Rand?" means that he gave more than enough info for Verrin to put two and two together and make a dragon. This could be word twisting based on the different meanings of the words "can/cannot" because while she could spill the beans on Rand she can't if she wants everything to go according to plan, or some such twisting. I'm not so sure though, it still seems like a pretty blatant lie, and if that's how she did it then it really exposes the oaths as useless …

  24. when matt was in the tower, he was told that as long as he was alive, the horn of valere is just another horn for anybody else that blows on it. for it to work for someone else, he'd have to die. but he did die in rhuidean, which would mean that the horn of valere is magicificated again, right? so all through the books, where he's thinking on it, and other people who knew he blew it are saying that he has to be at the last battle, are potentially wrong, 'cause now anybody can use the horn. does that make sense?

Ok so Merillile supposedly runs off during CoT with Talaan, but are things as clean as that? My first question would be this--why didn't she travel away? Using Talaan as a battery she could have woven a gateway and been halfway accross the world before anyone knew. And why did she have Talaan cloak herself, but than walk boldly out, her face bare to the world. Merilille was a bit unhinged at the time, but if she had the presense to make good her escape it makes the rest of the thoughtlessness seem a bit clumsy. Consider that at the same time Careane had been charged with clearing the non-Aes Sedai channelers out of the palace so that the Black could get at Elayne. Sh…

  28. Started by Master Norry,

This question came up to me when I was reading in tFoH, in the chapter where Rand tells a joke to the Maidens, and is hugely annoyed by their not understanding of "normal" humour. It made me think about jokes in Randland, and the following question came up: Can Aes Sedai tell jokes? For example, can an AS say: "Two men went to the docter (or the yellow AS, in this case) and complained about their headaches" if she knows that has never happened?

The Children, while distasteful, need to be brought to heel for the final battle. A friend and I have debated this. She has a theory that Berelain will fall in love with Galad and bring them 'into the fold'. Considering Galad's disposition, I find this hard to believe, any thoughts?

So... i'm back! TG is approaching rapidly. We've started to see the 'harbingers'. Who, of the main characters do you think will be the first to be killed? I think it would be remarkably optimistic to believe that all our hero's / heroines will survive. I think there will be some incredible 'Rolan' moments to come (dies suddenly and unexpectedly). Who do you think will be first? Min's viewings suggest that herself, Elayne and Aviendha will see Rand die (3 women in a boat?) but granted the 3 women arent necessarily them... I'm sure a lot of people will 'hope' for Faile but personally I like her. I think Bashere will be a good bet. On a personal level I…
