Okay, so I noticed another thread got derailed and closed on the discussion of languages, so I thought a new one would make sense. One of the things people seem to be forgetting is that the entire planet started with a single language, waygates, Aes Sedai, trollocs, etc. have made it more difficult for areas to develop into different languages, the regular people and Seanchan seem to have a lot of trouble understanding when they talk, one of the keys to language differentiation is isolation, everyone we know of still spoke the old tongue at least during the Trolloc Wars and so the languages haven't had more than about 2000 years to differentiate themselves, languages like…

It has long been known that the ability to channel has a genetic component. After reflection, I have come up with a theory on the heredity of channeling abilities which seems to fit with most facts There are three possible alleles that determine a person's ability to channel: the normal allele, the saidin allele and the saidar allele. These three alleles have an order of dominance: the normal allele is dominant to both others, the saidin allele is recessive to the normal allele but dominant to the saidar allele and the saidar allele is recessive to both others. The normal allele can be found on either sex chromosome, the saidin allele on only the Y chromosome and t…

A thought just occurred to me, and I want to flesh it out. In truth, it's more of a question than a thought. I'm fairly certain the Blight did not exist in the Age of Legends. I'm not certain when it formed, but it certainly formed after The Bore was drilled. This tells us that at some point, the Blight is reclaimed by the Light and just becomes normal land again. We can suppose that since the Blight is a product of the Great Lord's taint on the land (though, its nature is odd because the Blight continues its advance naturally seemingly without the aid of the Great Lord, and it is repelled naturally as well), it will go away after the Great Lord's prison is patched u…

This is a theory I've had for several years and even mentioned a few times, and no, it isn't the "Purple Ajah" theory. When the WT was founded there were 28-30 ajah heads mentioned in the BWB as representing their ajah. There were most likely many more not mentioned and other ajahs not at these talks but joined up after the pact of the WT was made. And while some did leave most stayed with the Tower. Each of these ajahs had their own goals, focuses, and agendas but becuase of their lack of politcal power they became obsorbed by the 7 Ajahs. It is also likely that indvidaul members from lesser ajahs joined with a different Ajah then the rest of their ajah membe…

In KoD Tuon states that she'd like to make Tar Valon her capital. Together with Egwene's dream, I suppose that means the Seanchan will be attacking the Tower sometime soon. But what about Rand's truce? His attempts to negotiate one with Tuon are obviously going to fail. But how can the Seanchan refuse a truce when the Last Battle is on their heads?? Also, the Seanchan are currently in Ebou Dar, Tanchico and Amadicia. That makes it a pretty long march to Tar Valon, crossing Andor. Any ideas about what going to happen? I hope Rand will make some sort of deal in which he gives the Seanchan a free hand with the Tower. Tuon will definitely want all the Aes Sedai 'decen…

I never understood why those who are running from Darkfriends and worse should feel afraid of what other people would think. I mean, if you're running away from "evil" how is it that people are going to assume you are "friendly" with it? If it was simply because the other people are afraid of having the Darkfriends and worse brought to them I'd understand (kind of), but most of the reactions follow this logic:

As I am rereading through the books for the umpteenth time I'm really becoming very interested in all the foreshadowing. A lot of the time I already know what event is being foreshadowed, but there are some very interesting things I've found that don't seem to connect to anything, or just as likely, are signs of the extreme level of backstory in the novels. The first thing that really caught my eye was at the end of TEotW, in which Rand hears a mysterious voice that is in ALL CAPS that says something to the effect of IT IS NOT HERE. I WILL LET THE CHOSEN ONE DECIDE. NOT HERE. (don't have a copy with me.). Another interesting note is how the Seanchan talk about how when th…

Mat's going to be separated from his men while on his quest to save Moraine. I like the Band as a whole and the side characters that inhabit and am saddened to think they won't be getting much action in TGS. The Band is currently separated into two sections. Now according to the fan made map which shows were all current forces are located Easten and Daerid are just crossing the Murandy-Andor border via the Lugard road with 22,500 men. It looks like a couple of hundred miles, but the Band should be able to reach Caemlyn in a week if there's good weather. I wonder how Elayne will react to them, they're not going to be as easy to get rid of as the Borderlanders, an…

After long study i have come up with a great theory on what Jordan has been planning for book 12 Pirates, Yes Pirates. Mat It has been long foreshadowed that Mat will lose an eye. His only option is to wear an eye patch. FACT- Pirates also wear eye patches. Coincidence? I think not. Rand We all know what happens to rand, he loses a hand. One of the most obvious options Rand has as a fashion choice is a Hook hand. FACT- Pirates (especially the leader) also wear hook hands. Coincidence? I think not. Do i need say more? This is all i have found during my research if anyone finds more please post. …

Did they just get wrecked by the seanchan when they attacked amador? The only one's i've heard about since then were asunwa and his questioners, who make up a small fragment of the main force, and the guy who took over from Niall who's name i can't remember and of course galad and dain. other then them, they just have seemed to vanish. what's up with that?

Sorry but the title is a bit misleading. I'm not gonna talk about what's happening in Mexico right now. The focus is Randland. Why haven't we seen any diseases or something similar prior to the Bowl of the Winds being activated? 3000 years and nothing? That seems odd to me. During my reread in preparation for book 12, I noticed something that may shed light on the appearance of LTT. I do not have the books in front of me at the moment to quote. However, during Rand's battle with Ishy at the very end of tDR, Ishy attacks and Rand describes a ripping or tearing of his very soul. He is only able to overcome the attack by grasping Callandor. IIRC, there is no evidence of LTT appearing prior to this attack. It seems logical to me, based on the description, that this attack somehow precipitates the emergence of LTT by somehow destabilizing Rand's soul or at least the connection between that soul and his body? Take a quick look at th…

Just curious, who are your favorite minor character and explain why? I would make a poll only that there would be 50 people on it and even then I'd miss a dozen characters. I decided to make this topic after reading the thread: PEVIN. I have five, excuse the misspelling of the names of these characters, I don't have the books with me now. Please correct me though if you do know the proper spelling. Pevin, obvisous reasons. Charlz Guybon I believe his name is. He is introduced in KOD is a lieuntant and is Brigetes second in command of the Andorian Army. Lord Pervival I think thats how you spell it, about 14 years old, blond hair. Swore allegiance to Ela…

The cover blurb is up. At JordanCon, BS said that there was two major storyarcs to be covered in TGS. They also said there would be two major climaxes. It looks like Rand and Egwene will be the focus of the two major story-arcs in TGS. Everybody was apparently wrong about predicting the Tower of Ghenjei rescue to happen in TGS. Comments? "A Memory of Light was partially finished by Robert Jordan before his untimely passing in 2007. Brandon Sanderson, New York Times bestselling author of the Mistborn books, was chosen by Jordan’s editor—his wife, Harriet McDougal—to complete the final book. The scope and size of the novel was such that it can not be contained …

sorry if this has been posted i tried the search bar. Anyways its hard to think of just one so I got 2 my first one is actually a second hand account when one of the Aes Sedai that had Rand captured (LoC) talks about what happened the first time they let him out of the chest. Don't remember the exact wording but they said they let him out and he killed one warder with his bare hands then took his sword and fatally wounded a second warder before they came to his senses and wrapped him up in flows of air. I mean how badass is that? killing two warders while surrounded by Aes Sedai. it was also cool when he busted out of the chest and stilled 3 sisters. the se…

Hey guys, I was thinking, the first time mat went to through the circle stone door, it seemed to us that he was in their for only a few minutes judging by the length of the conversation, but it turned out he was in there for over 8 or 9 days, sorry i dont know how long exactly. Wouldn't it take maybe a few hours at least to rescue moiraine, in side the snake and fox world of course, wouldn't that be a lot more than 8 or 9 days, so to me this leaves two options. A.) The last battle isn't for a few months at least, which i doubt, because each book in the series so far seems that long, giving mat and co. time to rescue moiraine. Or B.) Moiraine is re…

Just wondering what people's views were on the 7 ajahs. Personally for me I think the white ajah because I always love the scenes where someone is screaming at Aes Sedai and then they just say "are you quite finished" and the white ajah are said to be the calmest of the lot

o.k., in the great hunt when they used the portal stones, in one of the worlds it was mentioned that Elaine was married to some noble from tear. How did this happen? How did one of the most powerful channellers in the third age end up married to a guy from a culture that doesn't want anything to do with the OP? And that even without mentioning that she almost certainly was an aes sedai in that world.

I was wondering if anyone has obtained any news from JordanCon which was over this past weekend (4/17-4/19)? I heard that there might be a reading from the new prologue, and perhaps the official cover art for AMOL:TGS released, maybe even a book synopsis...if any one has any information I would love to hear about it...first post btw! Thanks!!!!

I haven't been here in a long time & I've started to come back for 'check ups'. When I was here there used to be one thread I'd convinced myself would never, ever die. One word. Asmodean. Pages & pages. Enough debate to fill the entire WOT series over & over again. Imagine my surprise when I found the thread vanished. Where has it gone? Or did you finally figure it out? Could I please be directed to the thread? Or given the answer? Again sorry but I didn't know where else to ask this.

Thought about this the other day, what would be your favourite and least favourite nation based on their way of society, laws, nobles and commoners, everything? My least favourite would be Tear and favourite probably Illian or Shienar. How about you?

I was just re-reading the Wheel of Time, and I know this is somewhat older (The Shadow Rising) I still thought it was interesting. A bit of a confession Nynaeve makes when Moghedien puts her under compulsion. "Nynaeve still had that tight hold on her braids, but her face went from a pleased, girlish smile at praise to shamed lip-trembling. 'I am sorry I blocked myself,' she almost whimpered. 'I'm afraid of it... all that power... the One Power... how can I--?'" Just note the all important part. There's no way Nynaeve would ever admit to actually being scared of the One Power unless she was under a compulsion (like now). I don't think I'd ever noticed it …

The 12th chapter in WH had me grinning the whole time, the one where Rand is bonded by his 3 lovers. Min and Aviendha leave Elayne alone with Rand to wreak havoc on Birgitte's and their heads and so they go binge drinking. I'm sure there are funnier though. In your opinion what chapters or scenes had you laughing or smiling, if your not too vocal when you read, the most?

Does anyone else think about channeling and science and the consequences. Yeah, I know its a fantasy, and there are no such things as trollocs and such, so what if a few rules are broken. the first and second laws of thermo are -energy must be conserved -entropy generated is always positive or zero (energy flows in a direction, cups of water dont suddenly get hot, and the surrounding get cold) So if Channelers make a ball of fire, the energy must come from somewhere, and from a place of higher potential. I think its cool to think of channelers as turbines, That take energy from the one power which is almost infinately vast and at an infinately high energ…

We obviously all know something is up/going to happen from the hawk falcon perching going on on* perrins shoulder. It almost looks like he could marry her (berelain) which would be really ironic and funny because.. of the 3 friends Rand, Mat and Perrin. Mat was the *party'er - have fun - go and be indecent with girls* And Rand and Perrin were the more responsible types And Rand now has 3 wives... Perrin (maybe 2) Mat has the big number one... ;)
