I don't know if this has been discussed before, bu if you were given the opportunity to write AMOL, how would you end it? Who would you kill, what would happen, how would you stop the DO, etc...

I've just finished my first read through of the WoT series. One of my favourite aspects of the books was that although there is a clear light/dark, good/evil split there is still plenty of shades in between that provide some very interesting ambiguity. The one area that causes the most dissonance for me is the Aes sedai. Despite clearly standing against the shadow (Black Ajah excepted) they are absolutely despicable in the way they behave. Supremely confident and arrogant in their ignorance they seem a bane upon the world. Manipulating and interfering with their imperious nature they are to a lady repulsive and detestable. Even ones i had initial sympathy for such a…

The dreamwalking wise ones use "need" in Telanrhoid. Finding the Green Man depended upon "need". Are the two related?

I hope you never need to use this plan, but it's sometimes wise to be prepared. If anything unforeseen should occur, I'll have my son post the details in The Gwampy Thread in Fiddlesticks. So, if you're concerned about me for some reason, check there. I try to post in that thread each day...if all is well, you should see me spamming away normally...otherwise, there should be a post from my son telling why I'm not and when I'll be back. This will save trying to post in all of the org sites. Love, Gramps.

Do we know what happened to Morgase's treaty? Did Balwer hide it after Niall's death? If Valda had it, what happened to it after his death to Galad? If Galad became Lord Captain Commander when he killed Valda, what would he do with it? Just curious.

ive been listening to the audio book of TDR recently and was just at the point when Egwene went through the third arch in her accepted test. she is amyrlin and her keeper is completely unknown. So i ask, when she is officially raised amyrlin in the tower itself who will be her keeper? At this point Sheriam is her keeper, but she has had a few breakdowns under the pressure of the times and events. i hope that she returns to her post as mistress of novices...she'd probably take to the new novices better than whomever it is at the tower. Egwene obviously wouldnt take elayne or nyneave, and i think she might want suian but assume that most of the tower would ba…

I'm always smiling about the Three Oaths. I understand why they were created and what they mean to do in that they are supposed to make the average person trust that Aes Sedai can wield the One Power in a manner that will not break the world again. It sometimes seems to me that Aes Sedai are just like children; almost as soon as they speak a truth they try to find a loophole in it. It's funny. Something bothered me though. When Alanna was talking to Cadsuane, (I don't remember the book but it was just after Cadsuane found out Alanna had bonded Rand) there was a point where she embraced the Source, and Cadsuane responded with "if you TRULY wish to be foolish..…

Hi, I am doing a re-read and recently read chapter 15 of TGH, titled "Kinslayer". During the section where Rand has his dream in which Ba'alzamon appears. Ba'alazamon says the following to Rand. I know 'Ishy is a lying liar who lies' and taunts Rand suggesting perhaps Moraine is loyal to himself. But I wondered how Ba'alzamon specifically and accurately knew Rand had been told by Moraine that he is the Dragon Reborn and also infers others of the Aes Sedai confirmed it (Siuan & Verin ?). There are several reasons I can think of, but none seem definite, as follows- He is guessing. (seems unlikely due to the way it is stated) He can read Rand…

  13. This is the first time I've posted on this forum, after casually browsing it from time to time, and I felt I wanted to share an idea or just a train of thought I had, to enjoy a good discussion about it. Rand is Ta'veren, and many times over quoted as being possibly the strongest ta'veren to ever live. I was thinking on this as I just recently finished rereading the series thus far, and at the end of Knife of Dreams, this idea came to me. Prophecy says "The north shall he tie to the east, and the west shall be bound to the south," and as Rand figures, it means that the Seanchan must hold the south and west, and he needs a truce with them, so they will fight at the La…

in the sixth chapter of the great hunt, Liandrian finds Rand rubbing off some of Fain's message and she attacks him. He suddenly assumes the void with no thought about it, and feels like he is reaching towards the light to save him from being killed. The light is clearly saiden, but what would happened if moraine didnt appear and cause her to stop? My guess is that she would have died or at least stilled, then how would an obvious attack of the Power be explained?

Hey Dragonmount forum-goers. First post. Be nice. Anyway, what are your predictions for what happens involving some of the characters? Both trivial romantic plotline stuff as well as big, important stuff. -Loial raises an Ogier army for the last battle. Much ear-wilting. -Lanfear tries to make a final hopeless grab for Rand - maybe kills Moridin/Ishmael? I really can't believe her significance ended in tFoH. -Lan raises a huge Borderlander army. Duh. The Golden Crane flies for Tarmon Gai'don! -Moiraine comes back. Probably does something badass. I don't know what it will be. Judging by the writing of her letter, maybe she'll play with Thom's mustaches (…

I am about to list deaths of the Forsaken; and also other things that concern their fates. 11 through 15 I am not entirely certain if the respective events are in the right order. 1. Balthamel killed by the Green Man near Eye of the World. 2. Aginor killed by overusing the One Power at Eye of the World. 3. Belal killed by Moiraine with balefire in Stone of Tear. 4. Ishamael killed by Rand with Callandor in Stone of Tear. 5. Asmodean captured by Rand in Rhuidean. 6. Moghedien captured by Nynaeve in Tel'aran'rhiod. 7. Lanfear falling trough the Eelfinn door with Moiraine at Cairhien. 8. Rahvin killed by Rand with balefire in Caemlyn. 9. Asmode…

The following is copies from Brandon's log. Please note that the publish date of November 2009 is becoming problematic: Q4: So...release date? Sorry, but I really have no firm idea on this. I'm still hoping to get to 400k by December 31st. (Watch the website and see if I make it--it's going to be very close. I could make it still, but it will take some hard core writing through December.) At that point, I think it will be time to fly out and see Harriet again to go over the outline for the remaining portion of the book. (What we talked about during my last visit in April will bring us right up to about the point where I'll be ending in December.) At that point, …

****DISCLAIMER: While I might slip into language suggesting that I believe this theory, In reality, I am merely posing the question, with the intention of generating discussion about a topic that I have not seen discussed here about a hundred times. I do not believe or disbelieve the theory**** Okay, so I've been chewing on this looney theory for a while, I think I might have even posted it before, but the recent discussion on Verin reminded me of some things that I think might make it more likely. Okay, we know that Verin is intensely interested in the three tavreren. She has shown this in a number of ways, her disapointment at realizing that Rand had elude…

In the series RJ uses several phrases to distinctly refer to the ethnic look and coloration of many of the national ethnicities in his world. Some of them are easy to visualize, such as a "short, pale Cairhienin," but others, such as the olive skin of Ebou Dar are more difficult for me to really fix in my head with any certainty. I thought it might make a fun thread to have people post pictures of how they visualize the "look" of these ethnicities. Here is a list of some of them: Andorans: A rather mixed lot, depending on where in Andor you look. Many do seem to have strawberry-blonde hair though. Aiel: Red or pale hair with sun-darkened tans on expos…

I have a couple of questions, mostly about Nynaeve and the damane. Starting with Nynaeve, could she have some latent talent at foretelling? Her 'weather sense' or 'Listening to the Wind'. It's been associated with not only the weather, but with upcoming events (sensing a storm in Ebou Dar before the Seanchean land there for example). Could this be foretelling or is it some other way of reading the pattern or some other talent long lost? My other question, involves the Seanchean damane. In book 11, I remember Tuon telling Mat that she asked one of her damane to foretell her future (and got the beware the fox 'prophecy'), but I thought foretelling couldn't be forced? T…

Again, am still re-reading Lord of Chaos and just finished the part of Egwene becoming the next Amrylin. I think everyone would agree that being an apprentice to the wise ones prepared Egwene in many ways to not only be able to overcome being a puppet, to the hall, but also become a very good Amrylin to stand on her own. Sure, Egwene has her problems, but doesn't everyone in the books, from time to time? So, now to choose an Amrylin if Egwene wasn't able to do it or some other reason. To help you out, you may want to read Lord of Chaos, chapters 34-36. First of all, you want to pick out someone who will be strong and be able to help Tarmon Gaidon (un…

  28. What exactly IS Spirit, and what do you use it for? This is the element that confuses me the most. Ever since I first started reading WoT, I've wondered exactly what it is, and how it's used. Air, Earth, Fire and Water are logical - I can picture in my mind how one can manipulate these natural elements, but Spirit ... what do you use it in? What does it do, in those weaves? Why would it be used in some weaves, where it's not purely Spirit, like the Bonding or the Traveling one. Recently, we've started overhauling the Weaves list over at the White Tower RP side, and I got completely stuck on some of them. It makes no sense to me! I’ve done a search of WoT En…

Hello to all I'm new to these boards and have just finished reading the series so far. I never considered looking for WOT forums until now but it's good to see that so many others enjoy the series and are dying to know whats going to happen. I did thing of one issue that it would be very interesting to have an answer to and that is: what exactly has Moridin/Ishamael done to be raised Nae'blis? My understanding from the early books was the the forsaken all believe that whoever amongst them served the DO best whould be appointed to it so he must have done something. Could it be something we are yet to learn of? and I wonder what implications it could cause? …

  30. Started by Aldeir,

Hi there! I am currently re-reading/re-aquainting myself to WOT to prepare for AMoL. And while doing so I constantly get pictures in my head of Rand posing as a noble in one of the big cities, I think Caemlyn, but I can't for the life of me remember which book it is from. I loved that part and I would love to read it again. It was fairly early in the series I believe. Remember him going to parties as a noble and Thom acting as his servant. Can anyone help me?
