  1. Started by Myndrunner,

Myndrunner the newb here again with another question I would like to discuss: Is Olver really Gaidal Cain?? There is not much evidence, but I think that there are some hints that are worth looking at: 1)Olver is fugly - Often, Olver is described to be not a handsome lad, and it is suggested that he will grow up to be very ugly. Birgitte mentioned that Gaidal Cain often was not what most consider attractive, yet he was always her type. 2)Birgitte mentions that Gaidal Cain often leaves Tela....Telandri...Telamundo....um....the Dream World before her. Time is different there so what may be minutes there could be hours or years in the real world. Just…

I regard Morgase as more of a spoiled brat then Elayne. Elayne at least has the excuse of being a teenager. Morgase is no longer the queen but she acts as if she still is and she deliberately taunts Tallanvour. Elayne is a teenager, she will learn I am sure; Morgase has no excuse. Give Elayne a break.

  3. What is the purpose of Olver (the boy with Mat). Why is he there. Why ishe so ugly. And will Mat ever realise that olver learns how to act around women from him. And how was it that he seems to get through to all the woman. I know they all have motherly instincts and stuff but the ALL seem to want to look after Olver.

OK. I was just wondering if RJ explained the fact that LTT in Rand's head appeared to be "insane". Why? It apparent that LTT's state of mind in Rand's head is as same when LTT died. I mean LTT"s state of mind in Rand's head could very well be as sane as he was in AOL or prior ot the Strike at Shyol Ghul. LTT reborn(Rand) isn't insane. But his voice inside Rand head is. Also, why did Rand hear LTT's voice? The prophecy doesn't mention of the voice. Only the fact that LTT will be reborn. In more than one ways, the voice in Rand's head is very troublesome. Also it seems LTT could hear voice as well...of another one. Did LTT in his lifetime heard voices of his…

Why don't the Seanchan believe in trollocs and such? They obviously don't see them in Seandar. So does that mean they don't have shadowspawn, or do they have a different kind?

Views on the following? 1) Can you bond a person who has bonded another person? What does that make the bonded person to you? 2) What if you bond a person who has bonded a person who has bonded you? 3) Can you bond someone who has bonded you? 4) Can channelers bond channelers of the same gender? 5) Can sul'dam or damane be bonded? What if a damane bonds the sul'dam who holds her leash? What if she is leashed to the sul'dam when she bonds her? 6) What happens if a circle tries to bond a person? Can multiple people be bonded at once? By a circle? 7) What if the person who is bonded is in a circle when he or she is bonded? Speculate ah…

How big an army will Lan raise? I always thought that most of the population of Malkier was destroyed when it was betrayed - with just a few stragglers making it out. But the way it was set-up near the end of book 11, it left open the possibility that he could gather quite a force by riding through the Borderlands. To me it doesn't make sense. Most of the the Borderlanders are in Andor. Most of the rest are standing against some invasion from the Blight. Where are all these other fighters going to come from. Are they all going to be gem dealers and fur traders that will pick up the sword again?

  9. Early in book 6, when Demandred steps out from behind a pillar after watching Elayne in Tel'aran'rhiod, he says "Let the Lord of Chaos Rule' to himself. Immediately afterwards he muses that he doesn't understand WHY it had to be so. I think it is generally agreed that LOC does not refer to Rand. I'm positive it is an instruction to create as much chaos as possible. This idea is strongly supported in book 11 where Semirhage tells Suroth that the Imperial Family is dead. After that Semirhage adds 'Let the Lord of Chaos Rule,' hence signifying that the murder of the seanchan royal family complies with the DO's command. Now my question is, why doesn't Demandred unde…

Is Slayer anyone in disguise, or just another character like Fain? I don't remember any mention of him in the last few books except maybe in passing. If there is a glaring weakness in this series, I'd say that major threads or at least somewhat important ones disappear for a book or more at a time.

I mean, what the hell. He has Lews Therin muttering to himself about not trusting. He himself acknowledges that trusting is dangerous. And yet he just scooped up Taim, who is perhaps the least reliable of anyone who has ever offered to help him, and put him in a spot where he can train male channelers any way he wishes and mold them into what he wants. He tells him to watch out for anyone who is too strong or learns too fast, but he simply ignores the fact that Taim fits these criteria. He barely gets suspicious over Taim's apparent immunity to the taint of saidin. For all his talk of not trusting them, Rand has willingly given Taim more authority than any of his fo…

  13. Hi, I'd like to know what made Rochaid, Hopwil, Flinn, Narishma and the others decide to desert the Dragon Reborn on the last chapters of Book 8 - THe Path of Daggers? Is there any explanation to their decision or was it because of the taint?

  14. Started by RAND AL THOR,

This is a 100% hypothetical thread. How long would TG last? The War of the Shadow lasted over 40 yrs I believe. But most people are expecting the Last Battle to be over in a matter of days (at least that is what I have gathered from this forum). That seems sensible-but will it be so? How quickly may Rand act after the first strikes from Shayol Ghul? I don't think it will exceed more than 2 months at the most.

It's largely assumed that because of Min's viewing, Perrin will become King or Prince Consort of Saldaea because Tenobia and Davram Bashere will die. What if - It's Bashere and Faile who die? Tenobia is unmarried and available, after all.

I've got a theory about Berelain, I wanted to get opinions on. She's the (very capable) ruler of the world's smallest nation. Her people love her, her army although small is devoted to her and she has a fantastic skill at negotiation and working with other rulers. She has a reputation for using her looks to get what she wants. Playing one man off against another and indeed offering herself, to aid her nation. In actual fact - all credit to her. A ruler's job is to safeguard her nation and her people and she does that. She's quite obviously intelligent and seems to have taken to working with Rhuarc like a duck to water. If I needed any more evidence that I…

I was just responding to another post and I dredged up a query. Morgase. She's with Perrin etc and she's masquerading as Maighdin, a lady's maid. Surely SOMEONE recognises her?! She's the ex-Queen of one of the largest nations, a very prominent figure familiar with Aes Sedai, the tower etc, surrounded by another ruler (Berelain), several AS and the cousin of the Queen of Saldea. And no-one knows her face? I know AS are 'above' becoming familiar with rulers other than those they are sent to 'aide' but surely Annoura or one of the other AS would recognise her face? They must know what she looks like - or know her description at the very least? Or…

  20. If a WOT movie is ever made, how enthusiastic would you be about watching it? Personall, I likely would not watch it. I dislike books being turned into movies because MY 'visual view' of the characters is lost, as the Thin Inkeeper mentioned recently in another thread. Several have been very disappointing. Harry Potter, Narnia have been let downs. LOTR was great but that is really an exception. I also heavily dislike the fact that storylines are changed in movies to make it more exciting. If a WoT movie is made though, I would likely wait for a LOT of positive comments from you guys on this site before watching it. ;) EDIT: Sorry about Narnia. IT …

  22. Started by Bob T Dwarf,

It has been asserted on these boards that the Da'shain Aiel of the Age of Legends were "Pledged to Peace in Battle." That is incorrect. There is no really enclosed, short-form definition for "Da'shain Aiel." They were simply those people sworn to a covenant that bound them to serve the Aes Sedai and uphold the "Way of the Leaf." Those who are "Pledged to Peace in Battle" are the gai'shain, any Third Age Aiel taken prisoner by other Aiel and required by ji'e'toh to serve his or her captor humbly and obediently for a year and a day, touching no weapon and doing no violence. Similar spelling and an understandable mistake, but an important distinction, …

hi, re-reading some of the books, did 1, then 2 and skipped to 8. Just finished chapter 7 where Perrin meets Lini, Maighin and 2 males. Perrin has recognised the 2 males but I can't remember who they are. Can someone fill me in please. Have read all the books before but this bit has escaped me. I know who Lini and Maighin really are too so no need to be afraid of spoilers for me.

Brandon Sanderson said that he wrote 10,000 words recently, and said that allowed him to increase the completion level by 3%. If that is an accurate guess, then we can estimate the total length of aMoL--specifically, around 333,000 words. Thats, roughly speaking, around 1,200 pages in paperback size--it changes depending on font-size. I thought it was kind of a fun thought, and figured i'd share it.

So I was thinking they other day about what I consider to be the most under-utilized TA that the white tower, or anyone else, has in their possession, and I thought it would be a good topic for us to discuss here since i've never seen it before. Personally, I think its the TA that turns regular cloth into the cloth that is used to create a warders cloak...considering it makes the warder virtually invisible when his cloak is on, i'm surprised that the best use they can come up with is just a cloak. I'd have a CLOSET full of invisi-gear for myself and my AS if it were up to me on how to use that TA- including a shoufa that would wrap around my face so I could…

  26. Started by RAND AL THOR,

I know it seems that SH must be the most loyal of all that serve the Dark, but I never stopped to consider how loyal he may be. In A Crown of Swords, there is a part where he regrets the link that forces him to return to Shayol Ghul every once in a while. He specifically thinks that that link must be severed. Why would he think so, if he were 100% devoted? Most DF don't trust each other etc...(Best example: Forsaken) but have we considered how the loyalty of SH may affect events in the last book? This is not a very big deal of course but I just wanted to mention it. Small chance of SH betraying the DO indeed!

So, I think it stands to reason that at some point Thom and Mat will return with Moiraine, meet up with Elayne, and Morgase will appear, with Tallanvor, Galad will arrive, and everyone will reunite. So, that's quite a lot of awkwardness there!! Thom and Moiraine - like teenagers at a school disco, both like each other, both too proud to admit it. Morgase - the woman everyone thought was dead, now in love with a man young enough to be her son, facing a man she once loved, who killed her husband. Galad - son of that husband, not much younger than Morgase's new fella, Moiraine's nephew Moiraine - Galad's (half) aunt, thom's new lover, everyone thoug…

  30. I am on book five and it took me about six months. Don't get me wrong I love the series it is just that I don't have much time. But you guys tell me how long it took all of you to get through them. A book a week? Or a book a month? Longer less let me know. If I had more time then I would read them all day long if i could, would you?
