I have no idea really why wilders are hated by most AS. They had the spark and eventually learned to channel somewhat and survived the horrible illness that claims 75% of wilders. They did not get the chance to go to the White Towe, or perhaps they were too afraid or perhaps they were not allowed by the family etc... Why do AS dislike them?

Dabel Bros announced their plan to do a comic adaptation of WoT. http://www.dragonmount.com/News/?p=354 Many people are skeptical because of former dealings with Red Eagle Entertainment and the failing of the New Spring comics. But with Dabel Bros continued success with various authors from George R R Martin to Orson Scott Card's book series being adapted, can they live up and fulfill the huge shoes of the Wheel of Time? Do you want graphic novels? And what does this do to the Wheel of Time? Share your thought!

First of all, I would like this thread to remain on this forum because I want to hear what the guys on THIS forum have to say on this. So Majsju, please don't shift it. I have been to several websites where fantsy readers/writers discuss various issues and books. I have wondered for ages why WOT isn't more popular than it already is. I may have found the answer. Many people recommend reading the first 3 books of WOT. However, the same people discourage others from reading any further. The main accusation against WOT is that the latter books are way too concentrated on description and people generally find the latter books BORING. This opinion is even ex…

I was wondering what would happen if Rand was somehow Balefired. What would happen if LTT's soul was permanently removed from the Pattern by Balefire. This raises an interesting point (to me anyway), somewhere in the earlier books it says that the Pattern "called" for the Dragon which is why Taim, then Logain and finally Rand all appeared in quick succession. Once Rand arrived then the Pattern's call had been answered and then no more false dragons would declare themselves. Now does this say that all or some of Randtime is predetermined by the Pattern, or does the Pattern simply respond to actions by the DO? If so, is the Pattern another name for the Creator or …

How do we know Gaidal Cain has been reborn? Has RJ said so? I have read a dozen interviews where he says Olver is definitely NOT Gaidal, but only Birgitte's word that he has been reborn. It seems odd that the Pattern would spin out a Hero of the Horn so soon before TG; it makes his involvement in the story pretty much pointless, which is not RJ's style.

  7. THis post is just where you can post who or what you would be in WOT, and talk a little about why. I myself would either be an Ahaman or a Blademaster, and the person I would be would be would probably be Mat.

All the characters are introduced in various ways throughout the books. I was wondering whose introduction you feel is the best? My own: Cadsuane. Her intro was the most excellent I have ever read in any book. I am going to quote it here because I love it so much: The door opened again for Riallin. "An Aes Sedai has come to see the Car'a'carn." She managed to sound cold and uncertain at the same time. "Her name is Cadsuane Melaidhrin." A strikingly handsome woman swept in right behind her, iron-gray hair gathered in a bun atop her head and decorated with dangling gold ornaments, and it seemed everything happened at once. "I thought you were dead," Anno…

    1. I have heard before that the Power flows in a circle when its used. First the Power is drawn out of the source like water out of the ocean. It resiseds in the channeler untill it is used. It then exists in the flows as they are woven. After the weave has dissapated, the Power returns to the source. 2. When LTT sealed the Bore, the Power was allowed to "flow" close enough to the DO for him to taint it. If this is true, mixed gender circles ALONE would have not been enough to prevent the taint, but rather both saidin and saidar would have been tainted. 3. Although the Power always returns to the Source, it can be stored by channelers for a time. A Well is one way. Th…

Inspired by Zerachiel76's excellent topic about Latra Posae Decume... I was just thinking about how everyone was siding with Lews Therin pretty much when it came to the Fateful Concord... Well, not everyone. Most though. I took the position of defending Latra, and I think I had a bit of a moment of clarity. Lews Therin was kind of a jerk. He's bit of a male Chauvinist. He does that weird whistling thing when he looks at women he admires. For some reason he wasn't able to convince many women to join the attack on Shayol ghul. He jilts Lanfear, and she goes crazy and joins the Shadow. Many of the top Forsaken jumped ship because one way or anot…

Now Rand has enabled men's suffrage to happen against the greates resistance of most of the women in the world there, I wonder what does the future hold for them. Will the laws in Far Madding change to enable men to own property? Will the laws in Ebou Dar be changed to no longer allow the murder of men by women with little recourse to justice? etc etc for the cities Will the Asha'man be allowed to live in peace and in some cases (Narishma, Logain, Flinn and another one I can't remember) be hailed as heroes? Or will men just continue to be slaves (warders), packages animals (warders), assassins, bodyguards (warders), servants (warders) and cannon fodder …

Shiver me timbers! I have this new thought. Is there any piracy, like the one you see in the 1700 century? I would love to sail like the good captain Jack Sparrow on the open seas, pillaging the Sea Folk and the other nations' ships. I would also have some rogue channelers with me, and be the first to actually have cannons. This could maybe be in the fantasy thread, but I wanted to make another thread anyways. So, what do you think. Why is there no piracy, except the small pirate bands on the rivers. Some smugglers here and there, but nothign like good piracy?

The Yellow Ajah specializes in healing and the Yellow Aes Sedai spend their time studying Healing etc...... Any Healing done by Aes Sedai is accidental, unless someone is specifically brought to the Tower for Healing. WHAT ON EARTH DO THEY DO? They don't learn any new stuff since Healing has been virtually unchanged for hundreds of years. I can't provide proof of that but the general attitude of the sisters suggests it. They have no organized hospitals set up in various cities to Heal people. So their talents are more or less wasted. Discuss please.

I'm stealing someone else's comment from a different forum so don't blame me if it's a ridiculous question ;) Nynaeve and Cadsuane wear ter'angreal which cause weaves to dissipate, yes? (I may be wrong here). Does this apply purely to weaves of attack, or would it affect other weaves. For example, if Nynaeve got close enough to the person in question, would a power-wraught disguise dissolve to reveal the real person beneath? Even as i'm typing this I think i've proven myself wrong - when Rand goes to Caemlyn in disguise he gets quite close to Nynaeve still in his disguise... or is that before she gets that particular ter'angreal?

I wonder if any of you guys ever thought about how TG, and other major battles, in a way that you would like? What I mean is, have you ever imagined Tarmon Gai'Don just the way you would want to, and not like the book goes. My imagination would be if I, right before TG, I come with my fleet of Terran Battlecruisers, hundreds of other vessels, thousands of Terran Marines, and of cource Terran Reapers, along with many tanks, and other vehicles. With the Terran fleet would come an equally enormous fleet of Protoss spacecraft, and I mean the entire pack, which includes Carriers, Motherships, and the smaller Phoenix. In the background, Warp Rays, would fire their powerful…

  19. In book 1 three characters arrived almost almost at the same time. Moiraine, Fain and Thom. Does anyone know if one brought the other or if one was following someone else? Does this have anything to do with the Thom + Moiraine relationship even then? Wish it was better explained in the books so i wouldnt have to ask you all questions you've probably already discussed. Although this is the best source of info i can find. Any help?

While RJ has said that Fain was released by a Myrdraal from his cell in Fal Dara, it is unclear who led the release. It is assumed that Ingtar did, but that seems logistically difficult for two reasons: 1. The slaying of the guards at the Dog Gate, to allow in the trollocs, would have had to have happened close to the battle; and 2. Ingtar's meeting up with Rand and taking on a Myrdraal while Rand is on his way to the dungeon. The other obvious suspect is Liandrin, who has been set up by RJ as a DF, working her DF ways, throughout the passage. However, if it is her, why have Fain say "Oh, its you. I wasn't expecting you" and not identify her? Looks like misdirection …

The Wheel of Time, by Robert Jordan. Nice bold lettering on the front of the book. The synopsis includes stuff like, "The Dark One is trying to escape from his prison and break the Wheel" etc.... Before I started the books, I imagine the Wheel to be an actual solid object. MY first thought was a huge chamber with pillars all around and the gigantic wheel at the far end that stand up vertically with its axle driven into the wall. It was nicely carved with all sorts of typical fantasy stuff with magic swirls and lights all around etc.. and it was turning slowly. This idea was reinforced by some comments during the first book about the Wheel grinding too har…

  22. But do we? Or is our idea of the saldean female actually the saldean noblewoman? We know Faile. We know what she's like. We know a little of Deira, she's the same as Faile (although I like Deira more). We know a tiny bit of Tenobia, and she seems quite voracious too from what we've seen (if not in my estimation as intelligent and sharp as Faile and Deira). We know another Saldean woman, and as far as I'm concerned she's entirely different. We know Sheriam. We know her quite well. We know she was Mistress of Novices until just recently, and now is the Keeper under Egwene. We know she had a voice in the decision to raise Egwene and we know she's suspic…

I wounder if the turn of the century and all the technology, had any influence on RJ and/or all our of our 20th century writers subconly? A lot of dooms day, last battle, material. Action is good yet a lot of the same theme. Do you think RJ and/or other 2000k writers have been engraved with this without intention? A hundred years from now will our classics all look alike?

  24. Maybe I'm not the first to notice this, but there are definately some references to the country of South Africa in WOT :o For starters there's Rand's name. Rand is the name of the currency used in South Africa, for example you'd pay R150.00 to buy a WOT novel in a South African book store! Another thing is Egwene's surname: al'Vere (though it's spelled 'al weer' in SA, the pronunciation is identical), which is a South African word that means 'again'. :o Maybe Robert Jordan (may he rest in peace) did this intentionally, or maybe not. We'll probably never know. Or maybe this was the great man's subtle homage to J.R.R Tolkein - who was originally born in SA …

This post is all about how you think the last battle is going to happen. Who will die, when will it be, how it will happen, who knows, maybe it will just be a mind battle between Rand and the DO, but I doubt that. So anyway, just post your opinions, and if you want, I will try to personally reply, but I'm not making any guarantees

Back before he went out into the wider world on his own, when Mat was still sheltering under Rand's wing, so-to-speak, a young woman attached herself to him. Her name was Melindhra, and she found his eyes to be pretty. She also found him to be a magnificent specimen of manhood. A true hero of the ages. Capable of fame and glory and renown... if he would just see it... and TAKE it... become a great and powerful noble and leader. But, that of course would mean that he would have to separate himself from Rand. Get away from the Dragon Reborn and his huge presence that was overshadowing Mat's greatness. Mat, of course, has too much respect for himself to want …

In KoD, when Perrin doses the town of Malden ( i think that's the name) with forkroot, most of the channlers fall over. Regardless on ability. they all drop or are incapacitated. After Rolan rescues Faile and her group, they hand them waterbags. Morgase takes a drink and has to be carried out. In a direct POV, Faile takes a sip and the (my paraphrase) water makes her feel "groggy" for a moment. I don't think she can channel at all, or she would be on the ground. However, would forkroot affect you if you only had the recessive gene for channeling? The TAS have tested it on non-channlers, and none of them showed any affect. You would think they would…
