Okay, I'm 100% sure this has not been discussed before! ;D The sisters who kidnapped Rand promised Colavaere that he would never return to Cairhien. "They promised," she mumbled to Rand. "They promised you would never return." Too late, she clamped both hands over her mouth. There is a scene in the book with Katerine Sedai and Colavaere: "We intend to offer him escort to Tar Valon," Katerine Alruddin said, shifting slightly. She could never decide whether Cairhienin chairs were as uncomfortabte as they looked or one merely believed they were because they looked so uncomfortable. "Once he leaves Cairhien for Tar. Valon, there will be ... a vacuum here.…

  2. I really like Egwene-especially after her being raised Amyrlin. The only part of her that I truly don't like is her looking down on Rand but considering that partically all the females in the book do that, I'll have to stick with it. One particular part is very difficult to believe. After being raised, she meets Elyane and Nynave and the following occurs: Nynaeve poked her head in hesitantly, then was pushed into the room by Elayne. Side by side, they made perfect deep curtsies, spreading white, banded skirts wide and murmuring, "Mother." "Please don't do that," Egwene said. Actually, it was more of a wail. "You're the only two friends I have, and if you sta…

Yay, my first thread! I have seen many threads about propheties, and other threads about others tuff, but not a single one about the technology in the Wheel of Time. Well, we know that the technology advances as we move through the series, but I wonder why, at some point there isn't a "industrial revolution" where the technology takes huge leaps forward, as opposed to the previous time, where technology only progressed with small steps. Also, since the sealing of the bore, it has gone over 3000 years when we first meet Rand Al'Thor, and 3000 years is a lot of years for people to get to a stage where they have advanced mechanics, and other devices. If y…

Extract from Lord of Chaos: For another thing, people knew he was Rand's friend. Even had he not arrived as he did, some of the Aiel and Tairens remembered him from the Stone, and word spread. Lords and ladies he had never seen in his life introduced themselves in hallways, and Tairen High Lords who had stared down their noses at him in Tear addressed him like an old friend in Cairhien. Most smelled of fear, and an odor he could not put a name to. They all wanted the same thing, he realized. "I'm afraid the Lord Dragon doesn't always take me into his confidence, my Lady," he said politely to a cold-eyed woman named Colavaere, "and when he does, you wouldn't ex…

  6. Now I know that title is gonna confuse a few people but let me explain. I think it's often the things in life which invoke emotions in us which we like the most. The Wheel of Time books bring out some of the strongest emotions in me of any books I've ever read. I can honestly say I dislike roughly 80% of the characters in the WOT and it's this hatred which makes the books so appealing. I think it's due to the absolute quality of the writing that makes me emotionally link to the books and brings out all the anger and dislike. I know we've had plenty of people saying who they hate so I won't go into too many details but I can't stand the following in order o…

  7. First of all, I am going to answer my first part. Yes, I think he did die, but I'm not sure if he died right when he pulled the mountain over him. I have read a story (Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card) where a man fought a battle to end an invasion, then they sent him forward in time so when he came back he could train the boy who was needed to win the final war. I'm not saying this happened with LTT, but I wonder about a couple things. In the prolougue, Ishy healed LTT enough to take away the madness and show him what he did to his wife. What if LTT became "cleansed" of the taint long enough to realize he needed to get away so he couldn't get turned to the shadow.…

Why can't the Aies Sedai fly? It seems to me that sisters should be able to fly in pairs. If Aies Sedai #1 lifted Aies Sedai #2 into the air and in turn #2 lifted #1 in the air they should be able fly. Granted #1 would control where #2 went and vice versa but the end result should be the same. What do you guys think?

What's up with the Jahar will follow in Rand's shoes? i remeber taim telling Rand that Narishma had the spark, the first to be found with it. Rand also picks Narishma to go get Callandor for him from the stone. He's also been bonded by Aes Sedai (like Rand has), and is one of the few trusted ashaman. What role does everyone think he'll play?

Is it really so bad that the borderlanders aren't in the borderlands? I mean 1-2 million Trollocs are even now getting closer to Tarwin's Gap or already through and maybe some dreadloads. The borderlanders have 350,000 total or so and the trollocs will have 1 million or so, not good odds. Consider the borderlanders have a strong force in Andor that will be joined to Rand soon. Now if they were in the borderlands all they would do is die probably before messages could be sent anywhere. Alot of men will die anyway but less than otherwise I think. Thoughts?

    1. What is Fain’s proposal with the Mydraal 2. When Rand is in the columns why does the Aes Sedai tell the Aiel to keep to the Way of the Leaf? Doesn’t that guarantee that some or all of the stuff the Aes Sedai want saved will be lost? 3. Why didn’t an Aes Sedai just travel with the Aiel to somewhere far away from any male Aes sedai?

  12. Ok, so i created this thread out of a discussion that is ongoing in the "Who says there's going to be a bloody body swap?!?!?!" thread. I basically stems around a question asked by Robert. Specifically, this question. I responded to that interchange in the thread, if your curious. But i will be moving beyond it in this thread. Here, i will be looking at the following questions. 1. Are the statements in the text an accurate portrayal of the Creator? 2. What do we actually know of the Creator? 3. What is the Creator's stance on events in the books, and what are his intentions? Are the statements in the text an accurate portrayal of the Creato…

It seems books I enjoyed the most have been written by authors that share common interests with me. I read RJ’s biography on Wikipedia and found the below similarities between myself and he. What did you have in common with RJ? He and I were both 1. Born in SC 2. Earned Physics degrees in South Carolina 3. Worked in the Naval Nuclear Power program 4. Have Episcopalian backgrounds

Correct me if I'm wrong people, but did Lews not start popping into rand's head first after the first time in Telanrihod (Chasing Ishy in TDR), then started getting stronger each time he went in? (Example, Andor chasing Rahvin, he actually saw Lews). Is it just me, or is there a connection between Tel and the actual seperate personalities of the Dragon reborn? I mean, it's not like there are multiple Birgitte personalities. Thoughts?

  15. I was thinking. When an Accepted, Elaida had a foretelling that the Royal house of Andor was necessary to win the Last Battle. She then attached herself to Morgase when she was raised Aes Sedai. Was House Trakand in power during the Foretelling, or was it Mantear? If Mantear, Elayne is unnesessary. Because Rand is of House Mantear through his mother, would that not mean that Elaida's Foretelling was about Rand?

Ok, so I have a few questions. The last thing I remember RJ having said about other books is that he had a totally different series with oriental influences that he was planning to write... When did he mention these outrigger novels? Also... Has anyone thought about whether Harriett will let the universe be expanded on by other authors? There seems to be a growing theme in the fantasy world now-adays of authors writing in other authors' universes... I just saw one at half price books the other day that was a 3rd party author writing in the mists of avalon world... Would it be a good thing or a bad thing? Which authors do you think would do it justice?

I'm new hear and i noticed that at least in the first fifty threads i found no theries of rand killing asmo. He never once acts even concerned of his disappearance. Wouldn't you think losing a forsaken would drive him nuts, and look for him. He was right there after all. He was starting to gain power as well. Maybe rand was just done with him. His oh its you line seemed a little informal to me, just like when the two of them talked alone. Just a thought.. Sorry if this has been discussed before.

I love the character of Setalle Anan and have a few vague hopes for her role in AMOL. I believe she's last seen with Mat, fighting Suroth's Seanchan. I believe she'll come into contact with Flinn or another Ashaman and be healed to regain the ability to channel. From her awe and fascination with Mat's medallion, I think it's safe to assume that she'd spent some time studying ter`angreals- perhaps resulting in her being stilled. I'm pretty sure it was written(or implied) that in order to have a hope of facing the Dark One, both of the Choden Kal would be required. As the female statue on Tremalking is at least partially melted, I foresee some action being take…

  20. Brandon Sanderson has some huge shoes to fill, and i don't think even RJ would have had an easy time wrapping up this series. My question is what topics would you let go by without some sort of closure? Obviously its only minor things i'm asking about. There is just so much to wrap up. There has to be some things we can let slide. I think Brandon has to be appreciated for taking on this monumental task before he gets blasted for not satisfying all the topics. After all he is only trying to do his best for our high standards. My "let it goes" would be The futures of Gawyn and Egwene as a couple, or The politics of any city/state after TG, and anything to do with Fail…

Moiraine is a smart woman how does she get it so wrong in FoH Chapter 2. In it she says the nations will fall in line when the AS come? I can only think she did it on purpose but I don't see any reason.

It took me 5 months but I finally finished the entire series of books. Wow...It is definately the best series of books I have ever read. HOwever, there were soo many characters and things going on I may have missed a few things. In book one Rand told Moiraine he would do ANYTHING if she would save Tam. After saving him she seemed to make a note of Rand's promise. Has she yet asked him to repay the debt?

Okay, so the Green Ajay calls itself the 'Battle Ajah' and claims that it stands ready for Tarmon Gaidon. But does it make sense for an Ajah to wait for TG for 2000 years? The Aes Sedai do not participate in any other wars (except for Hawking's Siege). If we look at any other Ajah, they are doing what their Ajah means them to. White settles disputes and Browns gather knowledge. But what have the Greens done? Also, while they are called the Battle Ajah, how are their preparations for TG different from any other sisters'? It seems like the Green Ajah has no real purpose and, perhaps, they bond multiple warders to pass their time when they are supposed to be doing somet…

  26. Started by RAND AL THOR,

This has been puzzling me for ages. Myrdraal/Trollocs are horribly wasted throughout the books. Hundreds of thousands die throughout WOT. Now, all these trollocs have armour/weapons and require food. Where does all this originate? Weapons/armour are never recovered by the shadow so how on earth is so much produced ??? If the Shadow is actually making all the armour/weaponry and supplying food (meat) for all those trollocs then that would make the economic stability of the Shadow the best ever. It doesnt seem very feasible. Unfortunately we have not been given views into the shadow's economy-hence allowing the writer as much freedom as he wished in tha…

Hey guys, maybe I'm in the wrong forum to discuss this. If so, my apologies to the mods, feel free to move it. I've been a fan from the very beginning of the series (at the very least since about 1993-94), and it's struck me so often how things that Robert Jordan brought in sometime during book 1 or 2 would suddenly become very important later in the series. His propensity to view the series in its entirety and herald the future completely amazed me. now, I'm probalby sure this has been discussed before and if it has, I'll probably get a lot of rolled eyes and "didn't you read thread x", but something that has occurred to me for some time is about the characterisa…

I havent read book 11 yet so I dont know what the latest update is on the Seanchan relationship with the rest of the world, but I was thinking the other day; in many 'big battle' or armageddon type situations (in fiction), the mainstay of the characters think they are alone, and the odds on them winning lengthen. UNTIL the cavalry arrives. In LotR I see this as having been the elves coming to Helms Deep at the 11th hour, sent by Elrond. Do you think there will be a 'cavalry effect' in WoT? For example Mat standing in the middle of a melee with his ashanderei whirring, but every time he knocks one trolloc away, two replace it. They close in and he can't mov…

I'm just throwing this out here as a stray thought. Has anybody thought that since Egwene did not recognize the man, it may just be a representation of what the world is currently going through. Granted, there is a good chance that is actually IS Rand, but what if she did not recognize him for a reason? The dying man could represent the fight against the DO, or Rand's cause, and it's current state of failure because of all the division in the world and the fact that Rand is separated from everybody he needs, ie Perrin and Mat. The pyre could be a representation of what is destroying the cause, and the songs of joy and sadness could be the people supporting whomever th…
