George R.R. Martin had a rather touching blog entry in tribute to RJ shortly after his death. I had wondered for a while if these two top notch fantasy authors knew each other what they thought of each other. I think hands down they are head and shoulders above any fantasy writers working today. And yet I find the contrast in their backgrounds extremely intriguing. Robert Jordan was a two tour Vietnam veteran, highly decorated and man who doubtless both understood the horrors and appreciated the sacrifices of war. George R.R. Martin, on the other hand, was a conscientious objector during the 60's, an anti-war protester from the Vietnam era. He essentially used his r…

What if by some chance the Dark One wins and most main, secondary char. dies and the pattern is covered in darkness. RJ wanted too do a off shut with Mat and Tion after TG could they be running hopelessly. What if just by chance everything goes wrong.Logan is the true darkfriend and kills Taim getting his glory from the DO. All the Aiel dead. Trollics all over the place.

I know this topic has been asked serval times so please forgive. Not trying to sound mean or rude but alot of people become more popular when they are dead then when alive. So in RJ passing will that help in a sense of a movie or tv series being made of the books.

I know that the land of mad men is talked about in the big white book but where is it in the books. I have read each atleast twice and can not recall it in them.

  5. This is the most important question in the Wheel of Time!!! (other than who killed Amso) Please pick one and if you can't choose, than post a reply explaining.

I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me the first time that Rand channeled? Even if it was unconsciously because I know he channeled at the Eye of the World, but I could swear he did it before then accidentally. I read somewhere that he channeled in ch. 20, but when I re-read the chapter I couldn't see where. So, anyways I know it is a weird and pretty much irrelevant question, but it is bugging me to no end. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Ok, here is something I can across in PoD. In the Tower Secret Records, an Amyrlin named Shein Chunla was eventually exiled from the Tower because she had 'squandered the power of the Amyrlin Seat' and 'alienated most of the Sisters in the Tower.' Everybody believed she died in office, when really she had been sent into exile. Then next line is what interests me: "Even the secret histories treaded lightly in certain areas, yet it was fairly obvious that, after the fourth plot to restore her to the Amyrlin Seat was uncovered, the Sisters guarding Shein had smothered her in her sleep with a pillow." I'm just wondering if this is a mistake by RJ or if there is…

I just had to throw this out there because I really loved Siuan as Amyrlin. She was tough and commanding, but a great leader, and exceptional in every way. It kind of breaks my heart that she had to go from being one of the most powerful world leaders to being Egwene's mentor/advisor, and not really liked or respected by anyone anymore. The only good thing is that she found Gareth. Anyway, I'm getting off topic. I don't like Egwene that much...but let's see if I'm just overly biased. Please share your thoughts.

I can't remember any at the momment exept the one on the back, "The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and pass. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow". And "Let the Dragon ride again on the winds of time".

  10. Hi @ll, I am looking for a quote from The Wheel of time that I remember to be like this "In a land full of cruelty you either learn to laugh at cruelty or you spend your life weeping". I think it is not an actual quote of a character but it is an extract of a chapter told from Rand's perspective. It it about Aiel humor. I remember vaguely that it was located in the series at some point shortly after Rand returned from the waste, but I am not so sure about that one. Does anyone remember? I would like to have the exact words and the location in the books :-).

In aCoS (A morning of victory)Egwene is Skimming Lan to Ebou Dar and we get some information about Skimming from her thoughts. She says that there is almost no way to "bump" into someone else that would be Skimming to the same location - the only exception would be if they used the exact same weave, in the exact same place only moments apart. That got me thinking on how Rand found Asmodean when he Skimmed from Alcair Dal to Rhuidean in TSR? They most certainly didn't weave their gateways at the same spot, probably not at the "same" time either. A slip up from Jordan, or does Skimming work differently for women and men?

In the chapter of Bors (Jaichim Carridin) he notes seeing a Tinker in the crowd of Darkfriends. I keep wondering, how does that work exactly? A darkfriend Tinker seems even more unlikely to me than a Whitecloak being one. For one thing, they're wandering nomads leading a pacifistic lifestyle with no contact with people of power or even cities. I can't imagine a need or want for a Tinker to ally with the Dark One. What sort of ambitions could he/she want to fulfil?

Okay, I'm new here so I haven't seen everything around here. I've just seen that Robert Jordan has passed away, I was shocked!!! But I have a question. This may sound a bit harsh. Will A Memory of Light still be released? Thank you Robert Jordan for the wonderfull books!!! We will miss you...

When the DO tainted Saidin, I'm sure that it took a while for the Madness to truly manifest. When the Male Aes'sedai saw themselves turning mad, surely they knew what kind of damage Aes'sedai could do. Why didn't they...you know, kill each other, or kill themselves?

...with the word "chick" very loosely defined. It takes absolutely no time to find some post, or even an entire thread, that speaks extreme hate for Faile. But no where can I find anything that talks about what’s going on in that crazy little head of hers. So.... This is a thread to [glow=red,2,300]DISCUSS[/glow] Faile. Please refrain from just saying "she is so annoying..."I can't stand her...", and other hate-bashing (I think I just made that phrase up!). I realize that there will be some hate come out talking about her, but let's try and keep it minimal. Please?

Morgase tried to throw herself out a window after denouncing herself as Queen of Andor...and though Lini saved her, I was never sure if anyone actually heard her say "the irrevocable words". As Elayne is geared up to be Queen, I'm curious as to what people will think happens when Perrin and Faile find out that one of their maids is really a Queen of Andor, and then what Elayne and her siblings will do once they realize their mother isn't dead...and how Morgase will react to Elayne marrying the Dragon Reborn. I'm always curious as to the happenings of the royals in the Wheel of Time.

ok i don't want to be insensitive here. and i'm not saying that RJs loss is not a tragedy. but... Who should finish the series? Harriet - Wife, editor Wilson - Brother/Cousin another writer? off the top of my head Elizabeth Moon, Terry Goodkind, Susan Cooper are all writers who with Harriet's help and RJ's notes could do the job. now i know that the majority of us would jump on Harriet as the obvious choice(and i agree from the fanboy perspective) but...(my there is always a but isn't there)...but...what kind of writer is she? alot of Editors are just not able to wirte good stories, they are great at what they do and are very needed, but alot just can't writ…

So for a long time now ive been a bit bored by the Sea Folk. In truth they offer nothing to the plot, they're annoying, and they've been given way too much screen time. Why? Ok, the Sea Folk have somewhere around 3,000 channelers at their disposal, so maybe they're a source of dreadlords. Yet even so their position is so distant from the real war that its still an issue. Then it occured to me. What is the one real thing that has happenced to influence the Sea Folk's power structure? The death of Nessa din Two Winds. Following that we see Zaida rise to the position of Mistress of Ships. Now Zaida has been around since Lord of Chaos, yet has never had any big issue abo…

Ok so have just started my third re-read and in Baerlon, Rand is confronted by a myrdraal, man to man, in the inn. My question is why the myrdraal didn't kill Rand, during the later books: *SPOILERS* the DO puts so much effort into trying to kill Rand... Why didn't the myrdraal just kill him and run off rather than stopping his knife an inch before Rand's forehead... Puzzled, cheers in advance.

  25. Right after stopping myself waffling about this in another unrelated thread thought I'd kick the question off here properly Is Elayne really a queen? Andor she has right to yes, but as Aes Sedia she has to answer to a higher power in all things, hence the excitement at an AS queen since it puts Andor in the hands of the AS especialy the amyrilin. Then we head over to Cairhien where she is yet to be crownd queen but we know its coming. Now we know Rand was proctecting Andor for her so he withdrew but Cairhien is a different matter. She'll sit on the throne but is he really going to just say yes ok dont acknowledge me at all? And if he does? won't that just drop Cair…

I thought of posting this in the Structured Board, but it can be moved if Kat thinks its better there than here. I was thinking on the reasons many 'special' people came from the the Two Rivers. We have Rand, Mat, Perrin, Egwene, Nyneave, and im fairly sure some powerful channelers are from there as well. I was thinking: Was this just the wheel throwing them together so things will be easier later one? Were all the ancestors drawn there by a ta'veran or another of the like? Does it have some link to Manetheran and Aemon's Field (name of Emonds field location shortly after Trolloc Wars - I believe the name Emonds is just a language adaption), a…

Sorry, for making a new topic if this has been posted before - I am new to the boards as you can see. Is anyone else besides me not to keen on the whole, "lets share Rand" situation. I mean I am just not a fan of the whole sharing thing. I would much more prefer it if he ended up with only one of them. So, my question is: Is there any evidence or speculation that would say Rand would end up with only one of the woman who loves him? And if there is which woman would it be pointing too? -Thanks in advance for your time in responding to my question.

I may have posted this before, or someone else might have beaten me to it, but in either case it has not been discussed here in rcent memory. I am struck by the capitalisation or "Moridin" in the inscription on the Horn of Valere. With the exception of when Mat is yelling at the Aes Sedai who are healing him in the Old Tounge, I do not recall an instance when a portion of the middle of a OT phrase is capitalized. I am by no means an expert in OP grammar or sentence structure, but the use of Capitals would indicate to me the use of a proper noun, which would further lead me to believe that the term, "Moridin" instead of moridin meant that Ishmael will be no bar to i…

Allright.. not trying to be too perverted but I noticed this from my 2nd read-through. Does anyone remeber the scene that occured when elayne, nynaeve, aviendha, the kin , sea folk and anyone else i may have missed were running from seanchan after using the bowl and elayne was experimenting w/terangreal? There was a paragraph that indicated that Elayne had may have used a power wrought dildo... I know WTF? Elayne had a tubular terangreal device that I think she applied fire to and it made her "blackout" and feel good. When she came to (no pun intended) her shift was above her head and her face was flushed and she had felt her temperature rise. She wasn't su…
