Wheel of Time Books

  1. So this is a list of my HUMOROUS impressions while reading the first book I ever read in the Wheel of time series: New Spring. This is done strictly for fun so if you enjoy it, I may continue with the rest of the books as I read them. Also, I hope I put this in the right board, if not, I beg the admins to move it to its appropiate section. Ok, here we go, spin the wheel. 1. This Lan dude be walking around like his s**t don't stink and he's the ultimate bad-ass. 2. He's pretty bad-ass though. Getting some definite Aragorn vibes. 3. Aiel be like: PSYCHE! Made you look. 4. This chick has a vision of a baby being born and she dies. I get how she feels. It…

  2. Started by Petrodon,

Spoilers! So, I have just started to re-read the entire series from Book One, to see if I can spot clues that foreshadow events that occur in later books. I did spot a number, one of the biggest of which is when Lan foreshadows his defeat of Demandred in the first chapter of Book Two, when he shows Rand the swordsman technique of winning a sword fight at the cost of your own life (Sheathing the Sword) which he uses to defeat Demandred. But as I read I have begun to form a theory specifically about the One Power. So, a lot of what we know about the One power comes from the mouths of modern practioners like Siuan and Moiraine. It always goes the same way too, bl…

  3. I've just re-read this bit in Path of Daggers and am stuck as to how Sorlea knows travelling. So far I thought only the Rebels know this via Egwene and are keeping it to themselves... How does Sorlea know travelling to show it to Cadsuane? this is at the point where they properly meet each other for the first time and Sorlea says she is bound by wather oath to "teach Rand al'Thor laughter and tears"?! Sorry if this is obvious but it's been bugging for me for a long time!

  4. Started by Sabio,

So with the power I can look like someone else or even hide, but could you look like say a table or an animal? Would it have to be something of similar size if so? Just a random thought and sort of curious if RJ ever mentioned anything about this.

  5. Does anyone else think that two years isn't enough time for everything that's happened? Rand goes from farm boy to mature ruler, Egwene goes from naive small town wisdom in training to a mature witty Amyrlin Seat. All the traveling that took months to do. Moving armies takes months if not longer. LOVE LOVE LOVE the books. Best ever written, but it just seems like it should have taken a few more years.

  6. I do not remember it at all. My only memory of it that steddings are islands in the sea of OP. I'd like to read that theory again, or I'd like to read your thoughts of that topic (if anybody cares about it).

  7. Firstly it's been a few years since I was last properly on here (essentially after AMOL I was a bit emotionally drained after over 10 years investment into the series) so had a bit of time away from the series. I have now srarted my first full series re-read since I finished reading AMoL. With that hindsight of how things turn out I now have a theory on something that previously baffled me. I have now reached KoD and got hit afresh with this old puzzle: Who impersonates Sammael and orders Trollocs into the ways. My running theory: Fain I'm not the first to suggest it. I'm sure I've seen a old Terez post somewhere on the topic but I was never previo…

When is the last time YOU had a spanking? Rereading Book 12, and just finished the Chapter where Cadsuane gave Semirhage a good old-fashioned spanking. I always said Cadsuane was someone's mean grandma....Also makes me think the good/evil questions aside, Cadsuane was able to break Semi because she understood how she thought...Like Semi, she uses her reputation to see people and make them bow to her wishes.

  9. Hello! I know that this question has probably been asked a thousand times on the forums, but i would like everybody's opinion. My personal favorite (if i had to choose), would be the Great Hunt. This reads like a classic adventure story, and i love it. I really enjoyed how Robert Jordan accurately chronicled Padan Fain's descent into something like a pet with two masters, Shai'tan (oops) and Mordeth. I also really liked how Mat sounded the Horn of Valere, and not Rand. It was a very surprising plot twist. Again, please comment and let me know which Wheel of Time book was your favorite!!

The most disappointing aspect of the book for was this characters resolution. For years i heard dreamt of a confrontation between Rand and Shaider Haren at Shayol Ghul, Rand like the other forsaken before him tries to blow Shaider Haren away with the Power, his sudden realzisation that he can't access the source and that this no typical Myraderaal... Rand has to rely his one armed sword skill that he has just recently rediscovered.. the scene really writes itself. I had a crazy theory for a long time that Shaidar Haran and Moriden shared the same body much like Slayer, this being the price of the True Power since we never actually saw these two in a scene toge…

  14. So as I was reading through the live-blog by Lia / Nexue, one of the things that occured to me as that a fair amount of time is spent on Rand/Mat/Perrin's first kills and how they cope with it. Particularly if/when they killed someone of the opposite sex. I am trying to remember, but I can't recall any time that the 3 main girls killed anyone (outside of shadowspawn) or if their was any time given to the mental state having taken their first life. There are scenes when one could assume that they killed (Nyneave battling the Seanchan in TGH, Egwene during the Aeil/Shaido battle at Cairhien, and not sure if Elayne ever killed anyone). Anyone have any thoughts or rem…

(Just began Winter's Heart, please do not spoil) My question is about this quote.vvvv "The Warder bond carried what Elayne had been sensing all morning. Frustration, irritation, determination. Some of that might have been a reflection of herself, though. They mirrored each other in surprising ways since the bonding, emotionally and otherwise. Why, her courses had shifted by more than a week to match the other woman's!" By "courses", is Elayne implying that her menstrual cycle has shifted to match Birgitte's?

We know from a survey (a Teletext survey of 4,000 Britons in 2007, based on readers' own admissions) that "some 32% of those who bought or borrowed the fourth instalment in the Harry Potter series, admitted not finishing it. ... Less than a quarter of people found time to read every day, with 48% saying they were too tired". We are fans, so one would say oh, we read the books from start to finish, but, according to many posts, we often skip books, storylines, chapters, or even paragraphs if we don't like them. And there are fans, who never re-read the series, because they find theorizing a much more interesting process. So, what are your habits? Do you need silence? Do…

  19. Ok, here is what got me thinking: Brandon Perrin does something different. Also, Egwene was caught off guard and had been spending a lot of time lately doing other things. Brandon It would be unwise to assume that Perrin is better at Tel'aran'rhiod than she is because of that moment. He had just spent weeks training... Brandon ...specifically to fight like that in Tel'aran'rhiod, while Egwene has been forced to fight other fights and let herself get a tad rusty. This was taken from Terez's postings of interviews; go there now to spend hours reading good material!! http://www.theoryland.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=372 But BS got me thinking on who W…

I finished the series around five months or so ago. I've finished quite a few series since in audiobook format and have been thinking of doing a re-read or listen of the audiobooks again. How long have other people waited to do a re-read and what books do people think require the most attention. I've been thinking about the series alot lately while doing things and are itching to do a re-read next year :p

I have introduced the graphic novels to some people in China while I study abroad (of course I'd prefer to give the novels themselves but it is quite time consuming). While trying to explain bubbles of evil I saw on the wot wiki that they apparently are creations of Rand and the DOs fighting at the end of AMOL ... which I don't remember nor trust as it is a wiki after all. Sadly I don't have my copy on me and the wikis synopsis of the referenced chapter doesn't help exactly. Is this true? Are bubbles really teleported back in time from that one point because of how much they changed the world during their battle? Thanks.

  23. Started by RAND AL THOR,

It is not an angreal- just a piece of wood. Judging by the later books, such objects are completely unnecessary for wielding the power. During the EOTW, she claims that it helps her concentration or some such. What is the actual purpose? She doesn't have any trouble on focusing her concentration in the latter books without the staff. IMO, RJ put in the staff to make her fit the traditional 'mage' image a bit more. Thoughts welcome.

I think one of the things I like most about WoT is how well the small, less dramatic moments in the series are written. I'm guessing that most of us love to read about scenes like Dumai's Wells and the Veins of Gold, but I'd be interested to know which of the more minor scenes in the series people like. Here are a couple of mine: There's a moment at the start of tSR, just after Rand has been attacked by his reflections from the bubble of evil. Moiraine tries to get him to move out of rooms and rest elsewhere, and he refuses. As they're talking, Rand glances behind him at a chest that's covered with shattered glass. A moment later, the glass is swept from the top of th…

  25. Started by Jagen Sedai,

In the books there are at least two incidences of a six pointed star being used; one is during the Aes Sedai testing (New Spring), to mark where Moiraine had to go; there is also a guardhouse on the Tower grounds in the Dragon Reborn that is described being shaped like a six-pointed star lying on its side. The second is on the right hand of every Sea Folk, between the thumb and forefinger. Is a six-pointed star found anywhere else? And does anyone know why RJ choose a six-pointed one, instead of, say, a 5 or even 8 pointed one? Did anyone every ask, and did he ever explain? Edit to add: Found six-pointed stars elsewhere. Amadicia has a single six-pointed star with a r…

So i'm currently reading the second book for the first time, and there is something i need to ask! It's about the Portal Stone that Rand uses and teleports everyone in Tomans Head, 4 months in the future. The thing is, he used the stone in front of everyone, Ingtar, Hurin etc..Aren't these people supposed to NOT know that Rand can channel? Don't they wonder how he can do it? Also, a few pages later, Rand and Mat are conversing about the damane. Mat tells Rand that since he can channel, he is an Aes Sedai..Can't they all hear that? (page 575 of the Orbit editions)
