I have been reading the forums for quite some time now. The thread about a largely overlooked "thing" . Now that the series is done, have there been any big revelations on this matter yet?

One of the things I had real difficulty following was the Sword Forms. The Forms have esoteric, symbolic, even totemic names, and a scant few are described in any detail in the books. I always wanted Jordan to publish a video compendium of Sword Forms so we could better understand the relationships in real tactical and even (micro-) strategic levels-- whether quick-kill combos in full melee battle, or in longer-form duel mode (there is strategy in dueling). I was just talking to an old friend about how abstract the Sword Forms are in the books, and shared my wish that there was a visual compendium of what these Sword Forms look like. By odd chance, I came a…

In the summer of 1996, my best friend Dani and I were on a camping trip when she handed me a paperback copy of The Eye of The World. She was living in Oregon, I was living in California and we were 16. We got to see each other roughly once a year and kept in contact via letters (the mailed kind) and pricey long distance phone calls. We didn't get to do much "together" given the distance, but The Eye of the World changed that. We spent the next sixteen and a half years reading those books together. There were literally HOURS of phone calls discussing prophecies, foreshadowings and of course theories such as who killed Asmodean and where Moiraine was. When the releas…

I see you, Dragonmount. Thanks for checking out the following recap of the Los Angeles (Huntington Beach) book signing of A Memory of Light with Brandon Sanderson and Harriet McDougal. My fellow Memory Keepers and I were happier than a Brown in a library to be chosen to help out and make this signing awesome. We started arriving at around 3 pm and were surprised to find that not a few avid fans had already arrived, eagerly awaiting the start of the event. Our Memory Keepers were a diverse group comprised of Rebecca, our “First Among Equals,” Nathan, Ken, Joe, Rob, Carlos, and Kyle. Since Barnes &Noble took care of all of the setting up, we were able to focus on …

As some may have realised, I have taken an interest and posted some potential examples of foreshadowing in aMoL itself. I find this topic particularly interesting because it is one thing Brandon has been heavily criticised for, his utter lack of subtly as compared to RJ's excellent use of foreshadowing. I found that - intentional or not - there have been some very nice examples of foreshadowing in aMoL itself for events later in the book. Perhaps to some it was completely unsubtle and obvious, but so far I have not seen these addressed, so I can only assume that they were subtle enough, at least compared to the previous Sanderson bluntness. I felt it fitting…

One thing I've always wondered is where does the Dragon - as in the red and gold creature on the dragon banner - come from? We know this is Lews Therin's symbol in the AOL, and he is called the Dragon. Rand is the Dragon Reborn, adopting this symbol and getting it tattooed, along with the Clan Chiefs, on his forearms by the glass columns...but we don't know where the symbol itself comes from. We see so much of our own myth and legend stemming from the time of the books, and they in turn derive much from us (Mercedes symbol, Merk and Mosk, etc), but nowhere in the turnings of the wheel can we say 'there be dragons' and point to a time or place where the creature on th…

Borderlands Books, in the heart of San Francisco's Mission District, on an impossibly gorgeous day in the beginning of February. The town is alive with the start of the Lunar New Year festival, as well as the local baseball team's fan festival celebrating their world series win. With that in mind, is it any wonder that the stretch limo bearing Brandon and Harriet was nearly an hour late? The store rocked with the tension of 265 people waiting for the final showdown, the last interaction with the Wheel that never stops spinning. And really, the air practically hummed with the joined murmurs of the waiting, punctuated with the occasional bursts of nervous laughter. And…

Most all forces of the light were present to welcome Brandon Sanderson, Harriet McDougal and Jason Denzel to the Sacramento area signing at Barnes and Noble in Citrus Heights, CA. Represented were Aes Sedai, the Red Band, Whitecloaks and the Traveling People among others. Birgitte, Aviendha, Mat and Thom even decided to join in as Memory Keepers on this stop. Mat, the group's "first among equals", had a three hour drive and was first on scene to start answering questions and handing out wrist bands. 50 wrist bands had already been handed out by noon, a sign of things to come - by the end of the night nearly 400 would be given out. As the majority of the Memory Keeper…

A thread for posting information on who wrote what. Try to keep it to confirmed things only (whether through Q & A, twitter...) and provide a quote, this is not another quality discussion thread.

I was thinking the other day, years ago, when I first read the Wheel of Time series I listened to the Beatles Album '1' over and over again. And since then, when I hear most Beatles songs they transport me back to the world that Robert Jordan created. For the release of Towers of Midnight, created a complete anthology of all 240 songs released by the Beatles to listen to as my "new" soundtrack for future re-readings of the series. My question is: Is there any particular song(s) that similarly transport you back to the Wheel of Time series? Also, do you listen to a particular band or artist when you read the books?

Fairly straight foward. Which was the DO's most effective tool. Really, this thread isn't a strictly objective one. Basically, who was your favourite tool of the Shadow? Be it because they were hilariously interesting, diabolically evil, totally insane, most powerful or because they showed a kinder side rather than a moustache twirling villain. Vote for your favourite character from the Shadow and if you feel so inclined, tell everyone why they are your favourite. This is not a thread for debate. If you don't agree with someone's opinion - don't debate it. We have plenty of other threads to debate the characters. This is a simple vote to see w…

OK. This is probably a silly item to be pondering but, I was just re-reading the series and am into the Path of Daggers and something kinda clicked and I was wondering other peoples input and thoughts on this. First, I don't remember it ever coming to a conclusion about who Settalle Anan is or how she knew so much about the White Tower. I do remember Matt asking her once what it was like to lose to power, inferring that he knew she had been Aes Sedai at one time but, other than that nothing is ever brought out about her past. So here goes my thought. Settalle is actually Martine Janata, the Aes Sedai who used to be the expert on ter'angreal and angreal in the Whi…

Hi - first post. One thing about the books that has been a very mild irritant is the casual reference to "three thousand years" since the sealing of the Bore (ie Aginor and Balthamel have suffered the depradations of time over three thousand years, Ishamael talks about three thousand years since Lews Therin's death, etc). And yes, I know that it's informal "about three millenia" rather than an exact figure - except, it's not. It is: Length of the Breaking (239-344 years) plus 1000 years of the AB calendar until the Trolloc Wars plus about 350 years of Trolloc wars plus 994 years of the FY calendar until the death of Hawkwing plus 141 years (the 123 years of…

I dont want to fault Sanderson on his storytelling here, but lets face it; Gathering Storm and Towers of Midnight both had a lot of glaring timeline issues. I dont know if the story is better advanced by the broken continuity or what the intent is, but is there any attmept to take the chapters out and re-arrange them to be in a streat timeline? I mean, Perrin is taking care of his Aiel problems and Tam is there, then we cut to Rand in Tear and Tam is there, and then BACK to Perrin a book later to see Tam going off to Tear to see Rand... Personaly I'd like to see what changes to the flow of the naration it would make to take everything and put it in order.

Hi all I'm always fascinated by authors as people as much as their works. Accordingly, who here was fortunate enough to meet the Creator (ie at signings, cons etc) and what was he like? I've heard alternately that he was lovely and not so much. Any insight would be very much appreciated.

(a work in progress, feel free to add to it) (to the tune of ) What would Matrim Cauthon do if he were here right now? I bet he'd win some gold from you, that's what Matrim Cauthon'd do! Now when Mat Cauthon came to town with his horse, Pips, in tow He smuggled off some Aes Sedai in Valen Luka's show! Oh, what would Matrim Cauthon do if he were here right now? He'd find a Seanchan girl to woo, that's what Matrim Cauthon'd do!

Tai’shar Dragonmount! Herein is the Memory Keeper report from the San Diego visit on the A Memory of Light book-signing tour, 6 February, 2013. Faithfully submitted by Freelancer. Before getting to the event itself, a little bit about the location. Mysterious Galaxy is a wonderful independent bookstore in the heart of San Diego, focusing on Sci-fi, Fantasy, Mystery and Horror literature, run by a dedicated and knowledgeable staff of fantasy fans. The store manager, Patrick Heffernan, coordinates author signing events each and every week, as many popular authors wouldn’t consider a promotional tour complete without a visit there. You can learn more at …

Hi, I recently made three videos around a couple WoT/AMOL release activities. One is a short video of eight folks that literally camped out at the BYU bookstore so they could get an early number on their signed copy of AMOL. The video is fewer than three minutes and is here http://youtu.be/jMoiqapv6GY Harriet McDougal, Brandon Sanderson, Maria Simons, Peter Ahlstrom, Matt Hatch and Dragonmount's own Jason Denzel took part in a reading a Q&A session a few hours before the midnight release. There is a five minute highlight video here and the full video here Fwiw, the transcript is here http://www.theoryland.com/vbulletin/...ead.…

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this (if it isn't please re-direct) but where would I go about looking for the non-US release schedule? Specifically I'm in the UAE for a few weeks and was hoping to finish my reading at a local book store but none of them seem to have it. Clarification/Confirmation?

Having now had time to digest all 14 books in the series, I looked back and tried to assess how it all unfolded and how well it was executed over the course of the series. As I see it, WoT is a saga that can be neatly divided into four distinct stages: *Young Pups in a Dangerous World - Books 1-3 *Coming of Age - Books 2-6 *The Ascent to Epic Hero - Books 7-13 *Tarmon Gaidon - Books 12-14 There is not much to say about books 1-6 that hasn't been said already - The books are by and large brilliant and it was they who built the legacy of the series that allowed Jordan to write a further five books and leave 3 for Sanderson to write as readers still came. Each…

If this is in the wrong spot, I apologize. . . you can Turn me later. I'm wondering if anyone out there has a Tower of Midnight post card. You know, the small cardboard squares Tor puts out to advertise the books at signings and bookstores before it comes out. I've got a KoD, TGS, and AMoL post cards all signed, and I'd like to have a ToM so I can mat and frame them. If anyone has one, I've got a TGS 11x14 poster signed by Harriet and Brandon I'll trade for it. The only thing is, I need it before the Atlanta signing. (Feb. 22nd, I think) (I went to Charleston for the signing there) Can anyone help? I ordered ToM, since there wasn't any signing close to me. …
