So I reread one of my favortie parts of ToM...and it made me think (just a bit, not enough to make me wanna start brushing my teeth...) But anyway - After Perrin gets rid of the Dreamspike, she has Slayer in her hideout and says go ahead with the plan... She mentions she has a tool in place to kill Perrin, and another one she has yet to release... I always assumed that Jarret Byar was the first tool - which is the second? Or was Slayer the first tool, Byar the second?

If Birgitte dies does she die for real? My father and I are in an argument and he says that she will die for real and ever, and that this is supported in the novels. I disagree. Anyone care to weigh in?

Im re-reading KOD,( I keep picking things up on this re-read), and in the chapter A Cold Medallion with Mat, when he walks into the aes sedia and the Der suldam arguing, they try to channel against him and of course it fails.Mistress Anan said something very interesting, that Cadsuane supposedly had one of those types of ter angreals.. In the books has anyone every tried to directly channel against her? I cant seem to remember if anyone actually has. And what does this mean do you tihnk if she does have one? Thanks

When Cadsuane was in Arad Doman, she visits a man who runs a little inn. The mistake is that the wife is a silk merchant. And she sells to Sea Folk. Who produces silk? who is the largest importer and saviest business people? Silk is produced in Shara and Sea Folk can buy it directly from the producers, what service did this guy's wife serve? She could have been a dealer of fine stones from saldean mines or ice peppers, but BS or RJ made a mistake.

So, I am reading The Shadow Rising, and I get to the part where Egeanin is seaching for those Suldam, and she is meeting with some shady guy in an INN/winehouse ("The Garden of Silver Breezes"), and who is the shady guy she is meeting? Floran Gelb, the same man on Bayle Domon's boat who Rand kicked in the head as they jumped aboard. I am not sure I ever noticed that in my previous readings. What is funny about this scene as well is that Egeanin sits back down hurriedly as Bayle Domon enters the room. He missed Gelb by a second at most, maybe even passed him in the hall, and didn't see him. One thing I like to look for in this series is small things/people making a…

This post is to discuss where Demandred's army that he refers to in tGS is coming from. I think the not-Aiel Aiel that we see in the epilogue of ToM are the first we've seen of Dem's army. Although some people have semi-plausible scenarios of these nasty Aiel been originally from a DF Aiel society in the Blight, I think that if there were such a society, surely we'd have heard about it before the end of book 13 - such DF Aiel would be hankering to go after the real Aiel, so the real Aiel would know about these Aiel. Another theory was that the not-Aiel Aiel were turned male Aiel channelers, but they don't resemble people who have clearly been turned in the Black Tower.…

Now the preview material has all been released two and a half months before the book is set for publication does anybody think there will be a move to get this out and catch the Christmas market? I read somewhere that there is no more preview material due and January is a long way away to maintain a 'buzz' from the preview stuff, if it really is a January release then TOR marketing needs to be fired as it would have made more sense to do Chapter 1 in November and Chapter 2 in December with a 1 month countdown to keep people talking. I bet we see this at the end of November. Anyone else got any thoughts/inside knowledge? Unless of course they are lying and we will …

For example... Cadsuane sets all of those traps and alarms on the box containing the domination band / male a'dam and Elza is able to take them, free Semirghage, then trap Rand and not alert even one of the webs Cadsuane had placed on it for protection. This is one of those scenes that makes me say "C'mon, man!". The explanation is pretty thin for that happening. Compulsion is forbidden, but in New Spring when Moiraine tells the innkeeper to drink the wine she was trying to drug her with and she cannot resist drinking it....I've heard several weak explanations for this.....but it's compulsion no matter what anybody wants to call it. She used the Power to make …

Brilliant title, right? Seriously though, I just went to Barnes & Noble and saw the new paperback editions of the older books. I am a British man living in the USA. I have been reading this series since about book 4. I have hardbacks and paperbacks all nearly destroyed, some in the UK sizes, some in the US sizes, all different artwork. Does anyone know if Tor plan to release a complete set of all the books in the new covers / format? I am not usually so OCD, but I would quite like the entire collection like that. Just thought I would ask, as I know some of you are very knowledgeable about this stuff!

I kind of only came up with this theory a short time ago. I think the only reason he can enter Tel'aran'rhiod at will is because either Isam or Luc is always asleep. They certainly are not ever "awake" at the same time, as in, they never talk to each other, they just remember the other's thoughts and communicate to some degree in that fashion. Anyway, since I rarely come up with something original, that's probably been posited by someone else before, but please discuss.

From what we have seen the ability to create Ter'Angreal was just recently rediscovered by Elayne, but the Seanchan have been mass producing these O'Dam for a very long time. More than that, they received a new male O'Dam and they were able to copy that one pretty quickly (not that we know how many were made). How do they do it? Did Ishy setup an O'Dam factory while we was screwing up Seanchan? Do they have collared ladies that have already rediscovered the art of making Ter'Angreal? They also have the Blood-knives rings....where are they getting these from? Do you think they could make Angreal as well but just have no use for them because Angreal …

Here we share all the things the the Shadow should have tried to accomplish, had the Forsaken any measure of competence. I'll start: Mesaana is nested deep within the White Tower. She has the entire Black Ajah to do her bidding. Due to Elaida's incompetence, the White Tower now holds around 250 Aes Sedai in total, around 70 of them are Black Ajah. Additionally, due to Alviarin's competence, the six Ajahs in the WT (some of them numbering no more than a couple dozen members) are at each other's throats, and afraid to spend time in each other's company or in each other's quarters. The Amyrlin is an unstable fool, the Keeper is Black, many Sitters are Black, one in ev…

Anyone left out there, other than me, who still thinks there is more to Taim than just being a DF/Dreadlord/Moridin? Usually I'd love to debate my position, but I recognize this as wishful thinking at this point. All I've got is my feeling that Taim just seems too ambitious and independent to be a DF. Though at this point, I don't know what his role as a wildcard would be. We had Verin and we still have Fain. Team-unknown-purpose is a little full. We might even add Lanfear to that list... I will be devastated if Taim turns out to be some scrub who dies in some dumb way a la Aginor. Similar to how some are worried about Demanded's role being lame after all the hype…

Don't get me wrong, I still think it's a great fantasy series. (Why would I have an account here otherwise?) Nonetheless, looking back a decade, when I first encountered the WoT, I feel that it has been a gigantic missed opportunity. What I felt could have been the second greatest fantasy series after LotR after reading the first three or four books now barely stands out against other prominent series in the field. If anything, I think even a series like Mistborn was better planned and written (if not to anywhere near the same depth) as the WoT. How would I rewrite it? (if I had the technical proficiency to do that, which I don't). (1) Cap it at 7 books. As ev…

Personally I would like Weis and Hickman to do the mat Tuon novel. I think they could handle mats humor and tuons 'uptightness' the best. Especially after the sovereign stone trilogy. Thoughts?

I find that in all the characters of WOT two of the most resolute in their nature are Galad and Taim. Galad is fueled by a desire to serve a higher power he considers justice, order and law. Which is why he eventually ended up in the Whitecloaks. He is easily the greatest of the children of House Andor. Elayne and Gawyn both rank somewhat inferior in character, charisma and stature compared to him. Which is a continued source of envious dislike towards Galad from Elayne who probably feels slighted in a form. He also lacks the selfishness, petulant fits and other immature expressions often expressed by his siblings Elayne and Gawyn. Galad represents in his character…

My top prediction for AMoL. Rand will be killed, his body mourned and buried/cremated. His soul, however, will be captured by the Dark One, who will somehow find a way to make the Dragon serve him, and get transmigrated into a new body, just like the Forsaken were. We will see a first-hand account of what it feels like to be a bodyless soul in the DO's grasp, the deleted chapter River of Souls will possibly be related to this. So there it is. Rand will be reborn in a new body, and will be under the DO's control for a while.

I just read this litle tidbit in COT: Abruptly, the ledge dropped away from under her with the crack of crumbling stone, and she caught frantically at the cliff, fingers scrabbling to find a hold. Her fingertips slid into a tiny crevice, and her fall stopped with a jolt that wrenched her arms. Feet dangling into the clouds, she listened to the falling stone crash against the cliff until the sound faded to nothing without the stone ever hitting the ground. Dimly, she could see the broken ledge to her left. Ten feet away, it might as well have been a mile off for all the chance she had of reaching it. In the other direction, the mists hid whatever remained of the path,…

Hi Guys! This is the link to a piece I wrote for String Quartet and Electric Guitar, which was inspired by the Aiel! It was performed in the Endler Hall, Stellenbosch, South Africa on the 30th of August, 2012. Here's the link: http://soundcloud.co...s/the-dedicated And if anyone's interested, here are the program notes to the piece: "The name of this piece originates in the fictional literature of The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. The Dedicated (better known as the Aiel), are a nation of tribal desert warriors that are constantly at war with each other – they refer to battle as “the dance” or “the dance of spears”. However savage and violent they…

As Wheel of Time is soon coming to an end, what series are people moving onto. So lets see if we can help each other out and give people an idea of a new series that is not finished and is going on at the moment. I'm quite picky when it comes to choosing new series. I only seem to like High/Epic fantasy, even then can be very picky. Any help would be great!!!

Hey guys. New to the forums, though I would join up since I just finished the latest book and am waiting on the next. Here's the kicker. I am moving to Australia for a year and am looking to start a new series until the next book comes out. I have a 46 hour flight ahead of me. I really enjoy how powerful Rand is. I have always been a fan of strong characters that can kick some ass. Goku being another example. Other things I enjoy - The Forsaken. I think having more than 1 antagonist is a huge thing for me. I really like anything to do with Wheel of Time, honestly, and I am afraid of wasting my time on a new series =( My wife has every Sword of Truth book, but…

Hi all! I've been muling over this topic which has been touch on often; there was a thread which didn't have quite the focus i was thinking of so... Basicly what do you consider essential to this age? By essential I mean what will happen again in the next third age. One thing I have heard is that by the time the 2nd age comes again the Aiel will need to return to the way of the leaf but it seems that the way of the leaf is not what defines the Aiel so much as they are dedicated, for example the travelling people kept the way of the leaf but gave up on their task for the AS. this implies that they Aiel won't return to the way of the leaf but will find a ne…

personally i cant c a way the Aial could lose . they have 2 superweapon on their disposel which should be more then enough to crush the senchean. 1. Dream world. dream walking give u unparalel spying capabilities and that without going the practical way of entering it for travel, or pulling someone into it fro compeling/assasination ,untrained Agy use minor compelling on Nyn (the lieing thing) imagine what an experience dream walker can do 2. Linking the Senchean nature of controlling Channeler prevent linking. grab 3 male channeler create a circle of 39 and start NUKING. create 2 such circle -> 1 creating a shield the other NUKE i cant c x numbe…

So. I'm posting this here because I'm not sure where else to say it, but it's something that's been on my mind Plainly put, Michael Krame and Kate Reading have ruined me for other Audiobook readers. My wife and I have been listening to the audiobooks for a while now, since I do alot of driving for work, and she recently tried to listen to a different story, something called Uglies. The reader for that series, strangely, began to grate on us. She wasn't Kate. It's gonna make it difficult to listen to much of anything else, I think. So my question is that, since we haven't listened to the audio for any of hte Mistborn books or the Way of Kings (though having rea…

A few references to the Dragon in the AoL make me wonder who/what the Dragon was in the previous age. Demandred could have been named the Dragon if it wasn't for LTT. This suggests that it is a title granted to certain people The Aiel were known as the People of the Dragon. The entire race used to only serve the Dragon. I can't recall if it is stated the Dragon or LTT specifically was served. This service was before the War of Power which (we know from Rand's visions in Rhuidean), so the title existed before the war broke out. For an entire race to be known as the People of the Dragon it would have to be a service for more than one lifetime The Forsaken in their thou…

Firstly, you are a lucky person, and I hate you to the core of your being!!! Secondly, for the time being we're keeping the board strictly to the Pre-release material, which is to say the Prologue and Chapters 1,2 and 8. Closer to the release I'll move all this to a Pre-Release subboard and set up this board for full spoilers, at which point you can feel free to go nuts, but for the moment no spoilers from elsewhere in the books. You may feel free to reply to this thread with a general response--"I really liked the book." "I did not like the book" etc. The same goes for characters--"I like Dumbeldore in this book." "I thought Dumbledore's scenes were really …

If he lives, will Rand play an active role in "Randland" after Tarmon Gaidin? Or will he retire with one or more of his women? If he'll retire, where do you think he'll retire? And why? With Saidin cleansed, Rand might want to spend his last years trying to bring order to a place where male channelers seem to live and suffer. He might, with help from Ashaman or Aes Sedai who can heal madness, turn the place into a better place. The same could be said about Shara where male channelers are for breeding and then killing at 21 as max age. But the Isle of Madmen wins, for me, by a whisker.

I just finished re-reading ACoS and it came out to me different than the first time, Basically, we have don't really know that Sammael is dead, but in all the books even the forsaken believe he is dead. But in the chapter is seemed even Rand wasn't sure while he was still in SL. Thoughts?

When Nyn and Elayne are drugged by forkroot, there are three pigeons sent. One goes north, one goes west, and one goes in a different directions. The first two are obvious that they are being sent as is her instructions as an Eyes and Ears of the yellow Ajah. The third one makes a little sense. The other direction is obviously not stated as it was sent by someone who was spying on her reports. If it was sent to Pedron Nial, why would the whitecloaks not jump on her and her connections to TarValon, and further, the whitecloaks did not seem to find out about forkroot until after the seanchan did, which also suggests that this is not the possibility. If it was s…
