Just doing a re-read and re-listen in time for AMol and came across an interesting ter'angreal that I hadn't noticed before. It's from KPoD Chapter 15 where Aviendha is going through the ter'angreal and comes across : A root-like carving is for growing something like holes. It is activated by singing. I haven't seen anything mentioned about this before and the above isn't a great description of what she discovers. But I remember thinking oh I wonder if they use this at the last battle and since it is activated by singing it can only be "The song" that the Tinkers are trying to find and maybe the Ogier too. Any more speculation as to what this could be?

Is anyone familiar with Inanna? Basically she's a Sumerian goddess, Gilgamesh's sister. We were discussing her in class today and it struck me how much resemblance she bares Lanfear, and some parts of her tale could possibly allude to the latter's role in aMoL. Anyways, she's a selfish (wouldn't share her tree with animals) power hungry (outright seeks and gains power) young goddess who becomes lovers with a shepherd, who leaves her after seven days of perpetual love making. She later descends into the underworld in a misguided attempt to attain more power, and dies and is reborn. Sound familiar? However, the price of her escape from the underworld is to sacrifice ano…

This is in response to some comments made on the 'How Rand dies and comes back to life' thread. A number of people are wondering how a boat comes into it. I thought it might be helpful to offer a summary of the situation. A boat is mentioned twice, by Nicola and the Wise Ones: There is a very strong Arthurian parallel here. After the Battle of Camlann where Arthur and his son Mordred meet in mortal combat (Rand/Moridin?) and Arthur is mortally wounded, he is taken to Avalon by boat, accompanied by three queens: http://www.arthurian...-darthur-21.php Another version has this: http://www.caerleon....rthur/page2.htm * Other r…

Is that what was implied in the review? That RJ wrote the last 50k words? Or did I misunderstand that? That would be amazing if true.

It's admittedly been a while since I read WoT (over a year now) and I just wanted a refresher on what questions there are which are left to be answered in A Memory of Light. For example, which of Min's viewings have yet to be explained? Demandred's identity (I know this is revealed in the Prologue which is already out, but I haven't read it yet) has yet to be revealed. What else is there? I think other people will find this useful as well - as much as I'd love to go back and read all of the other books, I just don't have the time to do so before AMOL comes out! ;) Please don't spoil anything in the Prologue, since I haven't read it. I don't want the answers - …

The double-bond (discovered by Androl & Pevara) will be used by Rand to seal the Bore. However this would require that the two women linked to Rand with Callandor be Avi & Eylane. They have each bonded him, so now he needs to bond them back. Then ... "He shall hold a blade of light in his hands and the three shall be one" See, the double-bond allows them to truly be "one" Many think that the new cover art excludes Eylane from being one of the two, but since when has the cover art ever accurately shown a scene!

Many of us have spent the last 20 years or so anxiously waiting for the next book to come out, and doing rereads. Although it's only been a short time for the characters I was a teenager when I first picked up EotW and now... well do the math for yourself. My question is how have your views on the books changed over the years? What looks different now that you've seen more of life and (hopefully) learned from it? The biggest thing that stood out for me during my last reread (in between tGS and ToM) was my opinion of Moiraine. When I first read the opening books I couldn't stand her. I was, if anything, more PO'd than the Emmond's Fielders at the way she treated them…

I think this might have been answered somewhere else, but I wasn't able to find the thread, so I'm hoping that someone here might be able to help me. I know there have been several theories about what Callandor's purpose is, other than being a powerful sa'angreal. Some of these theories revolve around Callandor's flaw of not having a buffer against drawing too much of the OP, and how that might tie in to resealing the DO or defeating Moridin. However, didn't RJ say in an interview that the buffering flaw was just a simple manufacturing flaw and wasn't intended? If that's the case, then wouldn't it mean that Callandor either has some other special property we don't…

Do you ever think about the phrase "the guardians balance the servants" from Nicola's Foretelling? I think this statement has HUGE implications for the state of the world after the Last Battle. I'm going to draw a parallel to Star Wars here, so bear with me. In the Star Wars series, Qui-Gon and Yoda and Mace Windu all said something about Anakin being the one who will "bring balance to the force." But in the end, the balance he brought was to kill off all the Jedi until their numbers matched the Sith's numbers.. 2 of them each. For a long time, Obi-Wan and Yoda were the only surviving Jedi, to balance Palpatine and Vader. Until Luke came of age, then Obi-Wan was …

I was just wondering if there was any way the ring Ter'angreal the Bloodknives use may come from Sindhol. I read that Brandon and RJ said the Seanchan could only make the a'dam. So, where did they get the rings from? Maybe they're from Sindhol, and that's one way the 'finns get memories. When you die from it, they get your memories or whatever. I'd guess that Mat would have Seanchan memories though and he doesn't, so maybe not. If they're not from Sindhol, where did the Seanchan get them?

i am thinking a Forsaken too maybe I thought I would open a new thread regarding the identity of the POV in River of Souls. From BS interview, we have the following clues: He/she is: someone we know about a bit about their past, but not much someone whose motivation we already know about, but not all We also know that this part of the story is distracting is sad I would think it could be Logain or Slayer. For both, we know a bit about their history but there also a lot of blanks that would be interesting to find about. It could also reveal extra motives for what they do or are about to do. It would be distracting because it is not essential to the wr…

Is it me or is it that everytime something is posted, the first couple responses have to do with the actual original post, and then for some reason the conversation always goes in some different direction and after a while the post has nothing to do with what was originally posted? I just thought this was funny and why its so hard to find things in the forums..

Looking at the discussion on the other thread, it is dominated by the reactions to the quality and what-not. To avoid a messy/disoriented thread discussion, I have created this to be purely plot specific discussion. The effects and theories of the possible outcomes from what has happened in Chapter 2. Let's leave the quality or plausibility of the scenario to the other threads dedicated to it and keep this speculation and theorizing if we can thanks. So, we have several new pieces of plot advancement happen. Pevera/Androl dual bonding - added effects? What's so special about it? Linking - Will Androl be able to weave a Gateway now? What will happe…

The dark prophecy from ToM states that the broken wolf will die, and it will cause great despair to the forces of Light. These prophecies have a tedency to be fulfilled, just as the light-side propechies. I'm of the mind that only the real and final conclusion -either a propechized dark or light victory in the end is changable. Everything in the prophecies leading up to the final moment of the Last battle will come to fruition, from both sides of the coin. Now, why Lan? Rereading The Eye of the World, I noticed the continued referrals to Lan as a wolf...there are endless quotes on it. Perhaps not as prominent in later books, but it sends a powerful signal. RJ plan…

One might say that this was inevitable, as my user suggests, I wish to preserve the memory of light that was Barid Bel Medar, he who should have been a hero. First off I will say that in all honesty, I don't believe this will happen. I don't think RJ gave enough thought to the Forsaken's characters, and that they are just caricatures of evil with little unpredictability. However, I decided to compile my theory to get it out there, what could have been. The Basics: Demandred will betray the Shadow, not necessarily turn to the Light and pal up with Lews Therin and co. but abandon the Shadow and fight against the Great Lord of the Dark to prevent the destruction of t…

Many very well read fans of Robert Jordan know from hence a lot of his material comes from. I am not one of these, but still it can bring joy when I stumble upon something Jordan used prominently in the WoT books. Like the phrase above which I found attributed to Lieutenant general Masao Maruyama's Sendai motto "Remember that Death is lighter than a feather, but that Duty is heavier than a mountain." in the book Strong Men Armed The United States Marines vs. Japan by Robert Leckie. Of course the US Marines Cleaned his clock at Guadalcanal.

This question came up recently in another thread and I wrote up my theory on the issue that it was the five Sitters sent to Salidar by the Tower Ajah heads. Sorry for using a link - I'm still tinkering with the theory and I don't want to keep updating it in two places. Any and all comments are welcome.

Post your theories about what kinds of gruesome ends the main villains will undoubtedly face in AMoL. I'll go first: Moghiedin, as we know, is mindtrapped and mortally afraid of losing her pendant ever since Moridin gave it to her for good performance. She's also Nynaeve's greatest nemesis, and was held as an adam slave for quite some time, thus earning her punishment. I think it's pretty clear that wretched lightskirt Nynaeve and Moggy will have their final showdown, during which Nyna will grab hold of Moggy's mindtrap, thus returning her to the position of a sex slave, held by bonds stronger than ever before. And then she'll break the coursouvra, leaving Moggy a min…

Over and over again in the series, it was mentioned that for the past thousand years or so, humanity as a whole has been in a slow, gradual decline. The population is dropping, every kingdom is getting smaller, more and more land is claimed by wilderness. This is talked about over and over again, but one quick quote to refresh everyone's memory of what I'm talking about, from Lord of Chaos, p. 449 So, why has this been happening? The Trolloc wars, and the wars after Hawkwing's empire fell apart, were horrible, but they were over a long time ago. Why is the populating still declining? Farming seems to be fine; in fact, there seems to be more empty far…

i doubt it, but what if the "memory of light" is the meeting at tfom. i just had this odd thought about the story moiraine told in the two rivers near the start of the series right before they leave. rand has a true memory of light, or at least days before the shadow. i doubt it would sway them to think that he should destroy the seals, that i think will be something different, but maybe giving them a memory of that, life without war, can rally them against the shadow. in the eye of the world right before they leave emonds field moiraine moves the whole town emotionally with a story about manetheren and their ancestors, and of course put on a bit of a show with the on…

Why do you suppose the Fox's needed Mats eye? There are references that the Foxs and snakes are linked to the DO. I have a theory... As Mat and Perrin can see in the minds eye Rand, do you suppose the DO wants the eye to see something with Rand at the last battle?

This is probably a silly question but I'm in the middle of reading The Eye of The World and I really wanted to find a good pic of everyone together, Thom, Mat, Perrin, Rand, Egwene, Lan, Moiraine, Nynaeve on horseback running from the Trollocs, that battle scene when Lan took on the Fade, anything like that. I have no idea where to look and I've already been on Deviantart but there's so much there that it's really quite daunting. Anyone know any really good WoT artwork of these scenes or any others that I can use for a wallpaper on my computer? I'd really appreciate it.

I just came back from a book signing by BS at Chapters here in Toronto and I wanted to relate a few tidbits. It started with about a half hour Q&A which unfortunately I missed completely because of absolutely horrendous traffic in downtown Toronto. I did get to ask him a couple of questions when he was signing books and I also heard a couple of questions by other people in line and I want to share those. Somebody asked if he killed any characters against RJ's wishes. He said that there was one character who he was going to let live but Harriet insisted should die. And there was another character who's fate was not spelled out in the notes (I didn't quite hear wha…
