Hello everyone, 1st post here. I'd like to share my theory that has been hovering in my mind since a couple years. Rand will sacrifice the One Power. No more Saidar and saidin. How? No idea. But it makes sense to me. Our world has no magic. And this final book will want to make a powerful link between Earth And Randland. Best way would be to wipe out magic. And ogier leaving... The logic would be something around these basics: The DO is a magic entity (True Power) To get rid of him permanently, you'd have to get rid of the one power permanently. What do you think???

  2. I'm sorry if this already has its own thread, but I haven't found it easily... What is everyone's best guess as to why Cyndane is "the one who is punished most." (Moridin) Unless I'm mistaken, Cyndane's most recent activities are as follows: Failed assasination attempt, ends up falling into doorway with Moiraine, where she earns a nice visit to the 'Fins. Moridin shows up, kills her. Dark Lord revives her in the form of Cyndane. Cyndane is mind trapped; fails to obstruct the cleansing of Saidin. Cyndane appears sobbing and miserable in Rand's dream. Cyndane may or may not have been the individual to ask Isam to assinate Rand. So my question is this: …

So this is probably a stupid question: What's the deal with Mordeth? In the early books I didn't give much thought to it and now it is just a guy that mixed with Fain to become super villain. But now I read in WH from Mat (fighting the Golam) that the only thing beside the golam he ever saw going through the tiniest opening was Mordeth. Does this mean Mordeth was a Golam? Was it an early bookanism? Is it just one of Mordeths superpowers? Are these powers explained by RJ or BS in an interview? Just a senseless power by a normal guy consumed by evil or an early bookanism? I'd like some answers please xD Cheers

I just read chapter one over at Tor and I found the following quote to be one of the most interesting in the chapter My belief is that the most probable way to win the last battle and being certain that it really is the last battle is to destroy the wheel of time, and in the process destroying the DO. I don't really know if that is possible in Randland, but I really believe that it fits. And I think that it's something that has been hinted of since tEotW; remember Ba'alzamon taunting Rand about destroying the wheel, and Herid Fel musings of how the last battle really could be the last battle if this age would come again? Then maybe, every time Rand's age com…

Considering the hype that's been built for years, it might be impossible for me to express my opinion on the matter without starting a crapstorm but I'd like to point out beforehand that that is not my intention. But I have serious doubts how good a general can Demandred possibly be. It's pretty certain he had an excellent mind for tactics and planning. He also very quickly picks up on warfare from and rises to second-in-command in the War of the Shadow. He runs quite successful campaigns before and after he turns to Shadow. Here is the thing though, he learns how to fight from books and participates in only one war. It's a planet-wide war and quite a long one, but st…

Moggy brought this up in her PoV, but Ishy has failed more then any other individual Forsaken, but still is the top dog. She cannot imagine why, and now that I think on it I cannot either. Why would the DO let him get away with losing to Rand over and over. He was released the entire time everyone else was locked away in the bore, and as far as I can tell, the only thing he did that impacted the story was to send Hawking's armies across the sea and corrupt their prophecies. Other then that I don't remember him doing anything else (besides helping to kill Samuel, the most effective Forsaken we have seen).

This is one confrontation I can't wait to see due to the following: Egwene (admittedly a while ago) saw Sorilea as an irresistable force she had to work for. Cadsuane sees Sorilea as an equal (so I'm making the leap and assuming they're both equally irresistable) Therefore I think it's reasonably logical Egwene would see Cadsuane as another irresistable force she would have to work with (not for any more since she too has grown in stature). I'm wondering if Caddy will have some influence on Egwene with regards to Rand and breaking the seals. I think if Egwene thinks she's going to treat Caddy like she treats most of the other Aes Sedai (let alone the non Aes Sedai…

  9. What are mythological parallels for Rand having 3 wives/girlfriends? RJ said in an interview that there are some. The most complete list of Rand character parallels that I know is by Linda at the thirteenth depository but it doesn't mention this issue. This question is influenced by this recent thread about Mat's mythological parallels.

Transcribing a signing. Full transcript soon, but for now: Loialson: Does Demandred even have an alter ego? Brandon: Yes, he does. Full transcript of that question: Question: Okay, great. Second question. Does Demandred even have an alter ego? Brandon: Yes, he does. Question: Okay, cause we've been trying to figure out who the heck is it, and we can't figure it out. We're thinking Roedran, but it's like, too obvious. Brandon: Here's the thing: Robert Jordan said that Demandred did not appear until Knife of Dreams, and so I have been very hesitant about saying whether or not he'd appeared—I think I've said whether or not he'd appeared on screen in my books—…

this may seem a silly topic but if I was a regular Joe Fighter in Randland and I see a Fade "die." Is there any reason why I wouldnt grab that magical sword and use it myself? It may be dangerous, but any reason I couldn't use it?

  13. Started by randsc,

...I confidently predict that AMoL will end with an, "Eric Lehnsherr moving the chess piece" moment. Hopefully, just "flicker." But I could live with an epilogue set in the far future, where scientists are discussing their recently discovered source of great, unknown power, and how exactly to drill for it.

  14. Started by Alric,

I've only just started tGS so I'm possibly setting myself up for a spoiler here but.... Do we know why the Aes Sedai that came with Cadsuane are with her? Did she scoop them up while traveling and made them follow her just because she was stronger in the Power? I seem to remember that that hierarchy wasn't as strong outside the Tower, so that would make it less likely. Does she have another goal and are they in on it? From the text it hardly seems like it, and I've been looking for hints since she showed up. Several of them are both likable and seemingly atypical in being non-manipulative (I love both Corele and Daigan). Am I missing something here or is this just unc…

  18. "No one can walk in the shadow so long they cannot come back to the light." With this in mind, and the knowledge that Jordan wraps up his themes fairly reliably, who is more likely to come back to the light? Elan Morin Tedronai or Mierin Eronaile? They both have a chance to: Meirin due to a complex mix of love for Lews Therin, shame and regret for what she's done, and perhaps the realization that the DO sucks...and Elan due primarily to his link with Rand, perhaps some regret, and maybe a huge philosophical realization brought on by conversation with Zen Rand perhaps in a dream. I think one of these two will play a huge role for the light. Thoughts?

Wow. So, we got a lot more of this story than the other parts, and a ton happened. Questions it raised for me: How in the world did the Palace not figure out a fricking INVASION was happening before an assassin killed 2 of the Kin? And why in the world would Elayne leave so few to guard? I thought Rand had the waygates permanently locked by Karldin and Loial; surely this included the one in Caemlyn? How many soldiers were with Talmanes when they reached Caemlyn? It seems like he only had a handful left by the end. The last line kind of read like a eulogy to me. Anybody else thinking that's probably it for mr. long, tall and stoic? Also, serious p…

  20. My question posed to all of you is this, Have we seen the end of Manetheran? In the middle of ToM we see Perrin speaking with Elayne, and he agrees to put down the flag of Manetheran once and for all. To me this was the most disappointing scene in the entire series. Hands down. Throughout the books Manetheran is referenced constantly. There is always someone tying one of our three Taveren to it. It was always my hope that Perrin with his flags of Manetheran, and Mat with his Band of the Red Hand would revive it in the end. But now it looks like that will not happen. Every book makes references to it, its probably the most stable idea/country/reminder of the past…

I'm having an issue. I want to pick up and read AMoL when it comes out. I want to try and avoid prerelease chapters and the like, because I feel like I"ll enjoy the overall story more if I avoid the spoilers. But it's so dang HARD! I want to know, I want to read, I want to finish the damn story! :) Maybe i"ll have to lock myself in a room without internet for the next couple of months...or something. I dont know if i'll make it the whole way. I'll probably crack eventually. But i'm going to hold out as long as I can...lol

  22. Started by TankSpill,

So let's just all be honest here - how many of you will likely, upon receiving the copy of AMoL, skip straight to the end to read the last passage, the one Robert Jordan wrote, that some of us have been waiting 20+ years for? I don't know if I'm going to, but I have to admit, I can already, 3.5 months away, feel my willpower ebbing in that regard... Edit: Just clarifying - I'm specifically talking about the part that Robert Jordan wrote, that he said has been written for 20 years. Not the climactic battle or anything, but what is likely to be the epilogue. In case it wasn't clear. :)

  23. This is all only assuming of course that the title is meant to be taken literally. In EOTW, "memory" plays a powerful part in the prologue. Memory plays a large role in "Veins of Gold" in TGS as well, in my opinion. For all we know, Rand's Memory of Light could simply be him remembering a time from the Age of Legends when Lews Therin forgot to change a light bulb! Fish

Just wanted to say that I wish AMoL would have been published in 2012. Because then, the final volume of the WoT would have been published in the Year of the Dragon on the Chinese calendar. As it is, it will be published in the Year of the Snake. More's the pity.

  27. Started by Thanatos,

A thought occured to me this morning. So the 13x13 Myrdraal, Channeller trick can forcibly turn a channeller to a DF. Could this same trick be used by the Light to forcibly turn DFs? Obviously you would need to find a replacement for the Myrdraal, but if the BA can do it with the power, why couldn't the Light? Thoughts?

That was the very last time I will ever read the "wind" paragraph for the first time. Oh so bitter sweet. I have been waiting for "the next book" since 1997 ... I never thought I would say this but I'm going to miss the wait. My thanks to all of you here that make the anticipation so much fun. I am actually scared to read on, because after this there will never be another new first chapter...am I crazy or what??
