I began reading the Wheel of Time series between my sophmore and junior year of highschool. I was only sixteen at the time and I remember being slightly skeptical at whether or not the length of The Eye of The World would be worth the effort. This was before I realized that it was a series, and that instead of only having to read eight hundred pages I would end up having to read thousands. By the end of the book, though, there was no doubt in my mind about it's worth, and I was ecstatic to find out that there were several more books in the series to read. By the time that summer had ended I had read through to Fires of Heaven. My junior year in high-school was also the be…

I'm sure this is has been brought up at some point, but i happened to just catch this myself for the first time on my re-read in Ch25 TDR pg294. Is it possible that these have any connection with Mats luck? at this point in the book the dice have been stolen by the black Ajah, Mat is in the tower. So is Lanfear, and they have a nice discussion in which Mat feels her channel a few chapters previous. Also, this is the book where Mats luck really starts to come out. Just a random thought, any other opinions? could there be a connection?

We know that during the age of legends they had weapons like we have today (shocklances and so fourth), these forsaken should have knowledge of this, and also they were pretty smart, so i assume they also have the knowledge to make these if they take the time to do it. What if that is one of the forsakens job that we do not kknow about, (like demendred or even moridin). Just a thought, just kinda makes sense that they would have this knowledge.

I wanted to see who everyone thought was the greatest warrior in Wheel of TIme and I am talking about non-channelers. The two contenders I see are Lan and Mat. Mat beat Gawyn and Galad at the same time. Plus since then he has gotten all of those memories from battles. Hard for me to believe but I think it is Mat.

It's that time again. I've left it rather late though. Every year for Dragon*Con, I like to do a poll ahead of time to see what everyone thinks will happen in the new book. It's kind of fun to see how likely everyone thinks certain events will be. I'll put the results online for everyone in a few weeks. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dDE3eS0tZ2x5VjN4V1NpbnpweUFNdHc6MQ#gid=0 Go vote. Try to only vote once.

Long time browser of this wonderful forum and first time poster. Anywho, how do you guys and gals think the Forsaken plots will progress and end? Will they all die by the time the Last Battle is at an end or will some survive after? Here are my thoughts: Moridin- Fights Rand at the end of it all. I have no evidence to support it but I think the link between Rand and Moridin will make him succumb to Rand's Light Logic. I think in a last moment epiphany he gives Rand knowledge to help seal the Bore or secret Callandor flaw knowledge. In the blast from the Bore he dies. I think this will happen in the last few chapters of the book. Lanfear/Cyndane- will dr…

...I've seen many thoughts as to what the Blank may be and the 'lesser consensus' seems to be a City, but with the epilogue at the end of ToM and the teaser from the prologue about to be released, I'm wondering if the word we're looking for is 'Clan'... I seem to remember an allusion to people who filed their teeth to points long before the end of ToM, but I can't remember where, perhaps it was in the companion that got published years ago, or perhaps I'm just channelling the Imortals from 300. Has there been any specific citing of who these 'red-veiled' people are that would exclude them from being a clan either corrupted or made up of those who ventured into the Dar…

The nature of the Bore The Bore is not a physical tunnel of sorts that runs through the Pattern to the Dark One's prison. Herid Fel laughed at the concept that a mortal could create a new prison for the Dark One. He also made it quite clear that the prison has to be repaired in such a way that is is fully intact, how the Creator made it, in order for the cycle to continue. Otherwise you would have Lanfear boring into a patch during the next cycle. Rand cannot put a patch on the DO's Prison and cannot build a new prison. Now I'm not a physicist, and I'm sure someone here will have a better understanding of this than I do, but I speculate that the Bore is s…

first post here, sorry if its in the wrong section. Anyway, I read the first 11 books about 2 years ago, and really want to start with the series again. Unfortunatley, I feel that I've forgotten alot of the details. I dont want to read the whole series again though. Should I just jump into book 12?

I feel like this book (CoT) is, at least, half filler. It's the first book in this reread that's been a chore to get through. At first I started slowing down the pace, now I'm speeding up just to get through it. So, many chapter could be paired down. Then, there's the ridiculous jumping to conclusions that the Forsaken have to be behind the gigantic amount of force being felt by the cleansing of saidin. Aviendha meets with Egwene, they discuss the Rebels wanted to make a deal with the Ashaman for linking purposes. Aviendha asks Egwene if she'd still want to do that if the huge amount of OP everyone felt was not from the Forsaken. Why didn't she mention that through the wa…

So, of the Thirteen Forsaken who would you have picked to survive to the last battle knowing what we know now about their personalities, weaknesses and strenghts. My five picks are as follows: 1) Ishamael/Moridin: Being the main antagonist of the series it would make little sense to write him off before the end. 2) Lanfear/Cyndane: For the above reason. 3) Graendal: She never engages in conflict directly and will flee at the earliest sign of trouble. Her ability to read and manipulate people give her an advantage in surviving the machinations of the other Forsaken. 4) Demandred: A great deal is made of his rivalry with Lews Therin and he is also a highly s…

Has there been any word yet on the number of pages, chapters, or wordcount of AMOL? We got some of this info from Brandon prior to the Towers of Midnight release, just curious if anyone on Team Jordan has relayed this info yet.

Do we have any information about what the Dark One did to mess with the weather? Prolonged winter/summer can be achieved in several ways (at least in a fantasy universe). I can't remember that the length of the days were something people remarked so I doubt the DO could have messed with the positions of the planets. Nights were also warmer, so it seems the effect of the sun wasn't increased as that would have been noticed most in daytime (that could have been removal of part of the atmosphere or the output of the sun itself). Was the core of the earth made warmer somehow? An "earth shield" made by the Power? (wouldn't we have noticed it being put there?) Any theories? …

Now, I am not sure if this is Brandon's attempt at ta'veren, unlike RJ's style or what, but Verin seemed to be drawn to Mat with incredible strength. Usually one logical step would lead to the next, and you would find yourself in a situation, where you took another logical step, which eventually led you to the path you didn't intend to take, but the Pattern forced. With this however, it was more than that, Gateways messed up and the Pattern literally seemed to chase her towards Mat. Given this, if it isn't just Brandon's blunt style of writing, and the letter given to him, and the results that ensued. Mat didn't even open it, and in the end the letter was of any r…

This may be just me, and on my current re-read of the books he hasnt appeared yet so there may be something that changes my mind, but does anyone else find Olver slightly... creepy? He's so into the women, he's taking after Mat big time, but to my memory he's about what... 10? I cant remember where he came from (how he came to be with Mat) can someone remind me? Do we think he has a purpose?

Hi guys ! During (the end I think) of the Towers of Midnight, did you notice the Aiel that killed the lone survivor of one of the keeps that fell to the Blight ? (cant remember the name). The man before he died noted that those 'Aiel' had red eyes and shrp teeth. They also wore red veils. Vampire Aiel? Aiel coverted by the DO to sth else? New creation ? What are your thoughts on this ? :wheel: :wheel: :wheel: :wheel: :wheel:

In the Shadow Rising, Rand goes to Camleyn with Mat and his entourage, where Rahvin uses lightning that kills Mat and them. They assume after that the Ter angreal cannot stop a mans channeling, but in The Lord of Chaos Halima channels at him(using saidin of course, and at least it is assumed her cause when Mat turns around she has shock in her face)it doesnt work.. So why did the lightning hit him(i understand that you can throw somethig at him, but the lightning was created fully by the power so it should not have affected him I assume), So, just a question and curious about the answer. Thanks

I know there is no concrete confirmation that that is what has happened to some of the Ashaman, but rarely have the authors, especially RJ, held our hands through plot elements, so it's fairly safe to assume that is what Taim is doing at the BT. I feel as though we will probably literally witness a 13x13 going down at the BT. I was thinking that it could be Androl getting snagged by Taim or his followers to get turned, since they may see him as a threat in a leadership role. I'm not completely sold on this since I feel like he will figure out how to weave a gateway regardless of the dreamspike, but should that be taken care of, say from Perrin, it could be him. If …

So the Prologue dust jack thingy got me thinking could the red-veiled Aiel and the red sails attacking Seanchan be related? Random thought but tossing it out there.

So Brandon tweeted about adding a new short scene to the prologue, and it made me think a conversation on what you want to see in the prologue might be in order. Generally speaking the prologues tend to be secondary characters elsewhere in the world giving glimpses of whats going on and setting up the world for the story to enter--though of course not always--so that's sort of the line I was thinking about. 1. A random Aiel witnessing a Sharan army descending the Cliffs of Dawn. [i don't believe the Sharans will play a big part, if they play any, but that rather this will be an attempt by Demandred to draw off the Aiel from the true battle]. 2. I reckon there will…

I'm just now starting CoS (Book 7) so not spoilers from this book on please, thanks. And for those just starting WoT, there might be a few minor spoilers...just a warning. I remember back in the first few books, one of the unique things about Rand was the heron mark and his sword fighting. He would always practice swords and the different stances. To me it seemed like one of his unique talents, something that made him special. But the past couple books have nothing to do with that at all, as if it faded out. Yes, Rand can manipulate things and use the One Power, but I figured the sword fighting and heron would at least still be a part of his life, even if it wa…

I read in a thread on here about Brandon saying he would have a chapter that had alot of different POVs and now I cant find it. It made me think of a chapter by Joe Abercrombie in his book "The Heroes". If you guys would like to see a fine example of this technique you can go to the Joe Abercrombie webpage, click on books, click on The Heroes, then click on excerpt. If you have not read Joe Abercrombie, I certainly recommend him, this chapter will not be a real spoiler. I would provide a link straight to the excerpt, but I dont know the link rules and dont want to break any.

Ok this isn't for debating--there is already a thread for debating predictions. This is just so we can each state our predictions for ToM. That way when ToM comes out we can revisit this thread and laugh ourselves silly. So, just make one post--if you think of new ideas modify that post. Keep them simple--just a vague description. Full debate belongs in the debate thread. This is just you stating it. Here are mine. 1. The Unseen Eyes are the BUT, and are Perrin's unseen foe. (And, though I'm less certain on this, are the evil the Mordeth encountered which twisted him and gave him his powers). In dealing with this Perrin will come to be at peace with his wolfy …

I know that Luckers did a lot of work on it, but ultimately, it didn't really address the Thing and it would probably be misleading for those who are trying to understand it.

"Narm is a moment that is supposed to be serious, but due to either over-sappiness, poor execution, excessive Melodrama, or the sheer absurdity of the situation, the drama is lost to the point of surpassing "cheesy" and becoming unintentionally funny." - Tv tropes entry on Narm. Ever noticed any moments like these while reading the Wheel Of Time? Something that's meant to be genuinely serious but just makes you laugh? This whole speech makes me laugh for some reason: “He is born again! I feel him! The Dragon takes his first breath on the slopes of Dragonmount! He is coming! He is coming! Light help us! Light help the world! He lies in the snow and cries like t…

I know that locations matter little with the ability to Travel, but it seems pretty clear that she's going to have a pretty big part to play in the end of all things, and I can't even find where we've seen her last... Am I also alone in thnking that with the Last Battle literally looming, the most powerful single weapon the Light-side has (apart from Rand) should be... somewhere doing... something?

I havent seen to many posts on this, so i thought i would bring it up just for kicks. We havent actually seen someone that has been confirmed turned to the shadow against their will even though we know that it can happen(13 aes sedia and mydraeal(forgive spelling)). So I think this might be talked about in the last book. Who do you think has been turned against their will... I believe Taim has, also those ashaman that are close to him. I also believe those new aiel are. Any thoughts?
