So what does everyone think? And what does the scene say about the story? It is Rand, obviously, and I think it is the Pit of Doom he is entering here, with Callandor and Justice. Also looks like there is an eclipse of the sun in the background. Edit: Full Cover including Moiraine and Nynaeve in the background. Here is TOR's description of the scene: Here we have an update on the Cover from someone working with Michael Whelan.

Not just in the current age, but in all the time they were active in the Age of Legends, which Forsaken did the most horrific deeds. My vote goes to Aginor. I mean, he sacrified like 50 million people to make the Trollocs, and with the Trollocs, the Shadow had an army to fight for them and kill countless millions more. Aginor, the Mad Scientist, definitely gets top vote for doing the most evil act. But I have to say that Semirhage seems more evil. Her descriptions of torturing people are fantastically chilling. We've seen some of that torture and heard rumors of others, far worse than what we've seen. I definitely think she is the scariest Forsaken. Her deeds are …

I was always confused about this particular prophecy. "To live, you must die" and all the theories I have seen about how it will come to be seem too far fetched to believe. I was doing a re-read of the entire series and I reached the chapter in The Gathering Storm where Mat encounters the village Hinderstap and how the entire village goes mad at sunset and even if you are killed you are reborn the next morning in a bed somewhere in that village. In the chapter "Night in Hinderstap" the mayor explains to Mat that 'Some have tried ending their lives. We buried the bodies. They woke up the next morning in their beds.' Does it not seem plausible that Rand could spend a night …

Right now we now from the first chapter that Rand is at the FoM and the next day he is going to have the meeting with all the leaders gathered there. The very next day he'll be going to SG to break the seals, thus freeing the DO and starting his LB with him. So does that mean that everything will be taking place in two days, or will there be events that extend the amount of time? I highly doubt all the plotlines can be resolved in two days, and we know AMOL is going to be longer than ToM, so that is a very busy two days. On the other hand I haven't seen any evidence saying otherwise. Thoughts?

Hi guys, This is my first-ever post, so hello! I'm a big WoT fan (been reading them since book one, many years ago), and like many of you I am beside myself with anticipation for A Memory of Light. My question, which has likely been answered before (but I lacked the motivation to comb the forums) is as follows: Has anyone compiled character-specific perspectives that arc the series? Meaning, has anyone compiled all the Rand-perspective chapters from start to the current finish, or Mat, or Perrin, or Nynaeve, or...? The reason I ask is that I'm going to re-read the books, but I'd frankly like to skip much of the less important, random Aes Sedai chapters tha…

Does anybody know where I can find detailed maps of the lands in the books. I am sure I am not the only one who would like a map showing places like the FoM, Malden, Rhuidan and the various Aeil territories and holds, the place where Greandal was hiding, etc. You get a general idea from the books but I like maps and I have been unable to ffind a good one that show all the "minor" places of interrest along with the great cities and roads.

It was discussed earlier in the books by one of the Mahdi that if one of their women begins to channel, they are taken to Tar Valon. However, given the Way of the Leaf one would not expect to find any of their few women among the Green Ajah as it is the "Battle Ajah." Yet we have Aisling Noon who is of the Tuatha'an as a Green. One would expect that you would find them solely among one of the "safe" non-violent Ajahs, perhaps as a Brown or a White, or better yet if they had any scrap of talent for healing, the Yellows. It is true that we have seen Aram break from life-long tradition, but is to begin channeling to be shunned and forced apart from Tuatha'an tradition?

After reading through the Broken Wolf thread I began to wonder what other prophecies Moridin has read that have shaped his actions and views regarding events both in the past and to come. What strikes me as most interesting in this regard; however, is how angry Shaidar Haran was with Graendal for losing control of the Dreamspike and then placing the blame for Mesaana's destruction solely on her shoulders. This despite Mesaana's plan not striking me as being terribly spectacular and we also know from early Graendal POVs that she is making promises that she is unlikely to keep. I should explain that Mesaana's plan does not strike me as being terribly spectacular as it …

Ok. I know in the past this has been a heated point of discussion, but I'm in the middle of a re-read and I'm to the point of the Spray getting to Whitebridge. As we all know, Thom, Mat, and Rand decide they are going to have to run for it and as they are crossing the square they spot the Fade. Thom gives the boys his bundle with harp and flute tied inside and screams at them to "RUN!" then he sprang into motion with the Fade 20 feet away and produced daggers. The book specifically says that Thom collided with the Fade before it even had it's sword half-drawn and they both went down in a crashing heap. The few people left in the square fled. "RUN!" The air in…

So, ok, this may be reaching at straws, but something occurred to me when doing the write up for the DMDB Very Helpful Verin listing--specifically, Verin's behaviour was scoured prior to tGS for actions that were out of the ordinary (aka Verinisms). After tGS, though, we've not really paid attention to new abnormalities--oh people discuss her notes to Mat, but the spotlight on her seems to have faded. Yet she does say some very weird things about her Warder, Tomas. My problem with this is why is Tomas spending his last hour doing anything? Why does he have a last hour at all? The last hour prescription is a function of the binding Black Aes Sedai undergo, so…

So we know already Rand will demand "The Dragon's Peace" of Randland/Seanchan in exchange for his life in Tarmon Gaidon.... Just wondering what everyone thinks his other conditions (if any) will be. Also who will agree to it, or will everyone? And how will he make them agree to his terms? Really curious to hear peoples theories on this.

I believe there isn't a lot of reference to this in the books, so this may be more personal opinion but; how are Trolloc's made, and more importantly, how are they continuing to be made? If I remember, Trolloc's were first created by Channeller's, mixing human and animal stock. But how are they still being made? Are there Channeller's still making them, or is the Dark One doing it? I understand that a Myrddraal is Trolloc offspring, that means that Trollocs have the ability to mate, but I'm not sure i can imagine young Trollocs running around in the blight learning to kill Just an idle thought, but interesting to see what people think

Just a small thought. Does anyone think that Jain Farstrider has earned a place with the Heroes of the Horn of Valear? Or where his acts not enough? I think he was pretty damn brave entering the realm of the Aelfin and Eilfin, and he gave his life to help Matt and Thom escape. (Sorry if any of the names are misspelt, i listen to the audio books so i dont really know how there spelt)

WoT is a long series. With 13 books so far, you are bound to find some parts of the story boring/ slow/ unnecessary. Why don't we all share the parts that we would skip on subsequent reading. Even without thinking, I can say that part which I found boring is from tFoH. When Nynaeve and Elayne travel from Toman Head to Salidar. (Ch.8 onwards) I just can't bear the two of them. that part I have always skipped whenever I have read the series again. please share your thoughts. thanks

This topic has probably been done before but I couldn't find it As of the Towers of Midnight, the Shadow still has Moridin, Demandred, Shaidar Haran, Cyndane, Graendal, Moghedien, possibly Mazrim Taim, and the Dark One. This is how I picture the Last Battle Demandred vs. Mat. Demandred was a great military commander in the Age of Legends and Mat is the best commander the Light has in this age and his foxhead medallion should protect him from saidin. Demandred will probably be at Caemlyn and Mat will join with his forces and save Caemlyn. Moghedien vs. Nynaeve. I believe those two need to have their final showdown and we all know Moghedien wants her dead more t…

I was reading through old Q/A's and found a question regarding channeling the true power. 3. Why couldn't Moghedien escape the leash with the TP? I'm just going to quote the whole response to this: "the a'dam would perceive *any*[emphasis mine] power use and treat it accordingly" I don't know about you, but this seems to support the idea that one must be able to channel the OP in order to use the TP. So does it just mean the male domination band is different to the female one and allows true power also another quote is 1. What was the deal with that sentence concerning TP detectability? His answer was that the True Power is only detectable by the "single…

I have been pondering this issue, and I don't quite get it. I also think it's slightly bigger than a short question. So, what do we know? Trollocs and Myrddraal, as well as possibly Draghkar etcetera cannot Travel. Oddly, the Gholam seemed to have no problem with entering a Gateway, and could therefore be assumed to be able to Travel (unless the fatal point is exiting the gateway). Why is that? I have only a vague idea that the Trollocs/Myrddraal are sort of 'twisted' threads/souls in the pattern... and when they Travel the pattern tries to correct the 'twist' because it's sort of restarting the thread at a new point. The Gholam, being not quite soulled, is inn…

Here's a video I took at LibertyCon of Brandon reading the AMoL opening again: http://youtu.be/Vde9xwGImwk No new text (he actually stops a few paragraphs short) but he does talk about about why he structured the scene as he did. Sorry for the shakiness, it was taken on my iPhone (my arms were pretty sore near the end!). After this but not on video he read the entire prolouge of Steelheart, a novel coming out next year. He seemed real excited about it, saying that it just sold at auction for "a bunch of money".

I have been thinking for a while now about how the WOT characters fit into the character alignments from D&D. If you are not familiar, here's a link. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawful_good#section_3 I started thinking about this in terms of Galad being Lawful Good, which is interesting because I would label most Whitecloaks as Lawful Evil. Most seem to land in Neutral Good. Any thoughts on this?

OK so, I don't want to revive the old thread where I found this theory after it was mentioned in others, because there was a semantics war going on so a quick reminder of the basic gist: That the hole in the Dark One's prison is kind of like a specialised gateway, which I find quite plausible, especially when combined with Herid Fel's "clear away the rubble". I'm not saying the Seals don't constitute the rubble, but perhaps they are not all of it. Then I found Terez's reply in another topic and it got me thinking: My question is, with the revelation of Androl's Talent with Gateways, do you think Rand needs him/his knowledge to work out how to seal the Bor…

For all of the postings and topics here over the years I cannot recall seeing anyone or anything that covers this... In The Great Hunt, we see Mat blow the Horn of Valere summoning forth the Heroes of the Horn. When they arrive, Artur Hawkwing states that something holds them, and asks after the banner of The Dragon. He states something to the effect that anyone can summon the Heroes of the Horn but they follow the banner. This is the only time that we see this, and it's right from the horse's mouth so to speak. However, the great fear through the series is Darkfriends getting their hands on it, retaking it, then later the fear over Mat being killed or if the hang…

Forgive I'm new but I always thought Mr Jordan had good ole southern family values...I would think there's no way Rand would have kids with Avi and Elayne together...unless he doesnt know Elayne is preggos. And shouldn't Min have some kids by now...judging by all the time she spends with him. anyway my question is - do you think his kids will play any part in the final book? he still needs to get with Avi to produce those quadruplets.

It seems obvious to me that Noel is Jain Farstrider, but what happened to him to make him end up in Ebour Dar scouting darkfriends, then later attaching himself to Mat? The extract below is apparently of Noel, as he sits Outside Jaichim Carridin’s palace: A Crown Of Swords, page 350, ‘The Triumph of Logic’ Sitting on an upended barrel in the sparse coolness of a narrow shaded alley, he studied the house across the busy street. Suddenly he realized he was touching his head again. He did not have a headache, but his head felt… peculiar… sometimes. Most often when he thought of what he could not remember. Three stories of white plaster, the house belonged to a …

Sorry if there is already a topic for this, but I wasn't able to find one. Just finished my reread of ToM. There seems to be some oddities surroundings Rand and where he is during this book. For the most part it has to do with Camelyn. Pretty much through the entire book the City was ringed in sunlight. There are a few times they mention the clouds breaking when Rand arrives, indicating that it is not constant, but there are multiple times, witnessed from several characters that the ring of sunlight is there when we have no idea what Rand was doing. The instance I am most currious about was in the last Elayne Chapter before she goes to take the Sun Throne. …

First off, this isn't a debate on what will or will not happen. So please, don't nock anyone's opinions or try to despute what they think. This is just for seeing what others think on this particular subject. I am wondering, the titles of all the books refer to something actually in that book in one way or another, Eye of the World, Crown of Swords, etc. So, what will this memory of light be? Will Rand have some sort long forgotten memory about how to use the actual power of light, something seperate from the true source, to defeat the DO? Or will maybe Moridin be reminded of a time where he fought for good and switch sides? Or something similar with the other f…

Hey all, Just read this on LoC prologue (I have the Dutch version so I'll translate it to English, but don't know if it is exactly right) Pedron Nial talking to Carridin: "Good", Nial said. "Because you will remain far away from this Salidar, just like all the other Children.". He wasn't sure if there was a flash of relief on Carridin's face. If it was, then it wasn't the man's character; the man has never showed a lack of courage.". This could be a flash of relieve because Carridin is relieved about Nial's orders not contradicting his Darkfriend orders? Does anyone agree on this? Any more of these little things that might be funny to post?
