Currently on a re-read. I'm trying to picture what the Cairhenian soldier hairstyle actually looks like. They are described as shaving the front part of their hair and powdering it. So is this like a mullet? http://www.google.ca/imgres?hl=en&sa=X&biw=1280&bih=857&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=W4EW-SXDqofDPM:&imgrefurl=http://www.flickriver.com/photos/fatmandy/205023214/&docid=wvMogcAGNm0dGM&imgurl=http://farm1.staticflickr.com/57/205023214_0dd793d456_b.jpg&w=768&h=1024&ei=xlHzT_3dLYm2rQHZnKTcAw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=347&vpy=448&dur=2472&hovh=259&hovw=194&tx=91&ty=159&sig=1020954509013…

  2. This thread is really to address what plot thread that you were really looking forward to and honestly believed would have eventually made it into the series if Robert Jordan had never taken ill and died. This hypothetical really implies that Robert Jordan never has a reason to question his mortality and lives to the ripe old age of 100 without ever going senile. I make this stipulation, because I don't believe that Robert Jordan's obsession with ending the series as quickly as possible, with only one book if need be, really started until he was faced with his own mortality and the idea of his magnum opus being forever incomplete. Feel free to make fun of absurd plot …

So the The Creator trapped the Dark One and peaced out to leave everyone to defend for themselves. Shouldn't we be able to assume since the Dark One is able to touch the world The Creator should be able to as well?

A thread was stared on reddit to wich I replyed, I was wondering how many people would agree with AreYouReadyToReddits view of Rand. http://www.reddit.co...estions/c58zck4 AreYouReadyToReddit 1) Most people (in-universe) missed that. There were hints scattered around; for instance, when Mat finds Thom drunk in Tar Valon, Thom calls Moiraine a fine woman ... if she weren't Aes Sedai. When Rand meets him in Cairhien, Thom asks if Moiraine is with him, and he seems to have a mixed response to her not being there. And Moiraine said something about "knowing the face of the man I will marry." Also, her letter to him begins with "Dearest Thom." This is important …

  5. I have been rereading and listening to some of my favorite parts this series for a while now. One thing that I've noticed is that RJ likes to have the characters deny what they are, both as a form of emotional denial, and a little bit as an inside joke. I love these little inside jokes, as it pays off to go back and reread and laugh at a characters ironic future. My favorite example that I've found so far was in the Great Hunt. Young Rand is on his mission to rescue the dagger for mat, and hopes simply to go his own way afterwards. He does not know what the future has in store for him. Even more importantly, he does not know his lineage, though he does have his doubts…

  6. I doubt that I am the first to notice, and I apologize if its been discussed here before but I don't remember seeing it. I just cant get over the parallels between the two. A Question: Do you think Rodel was INTENTIONALLY modeled after Lee? Robert Jordan was a Southron man, a military man and a fierce student of history. I met Mr Jordan and Ive been with WOT since Day One. If you wanted my own personal opinion, Id have to say...yes. One or two traits in common could be chalked up to coincidence, but Ituralde and Lee just share waaaaaaay too many very specific qualities to not be deliberate on Jordan's part. What do you think? About the Seanchan prophecy. We know the Seanchan prophecy regarding the Dragon, the Essanik Cycle, is supposedly corrupted or something by Ishy, right? So, to what extent is it corrupted? Is the whole thing made up, or were some words changed around? And is there somewhere I can find the whole prophecy? I search the interview DB but was unsuccessful. So will Rand bow to Tuon or bind her to his will? Is it Tuon that is supposed to bow to him? I read that it is a combination of the Karaethon Cycle and an ancient Seanchan prophecy, but what is the ancient Seanchan prophecy? Do you think they may somehow find it again? Or maybe when Mat uses the horn, Tuon will be …

  8. I always assumed the title to refer to the harsh winter, but I find this fascinating (from TFoH Ch52): Now I know Cyndane was rather insignificant in Winter's Heart, at least in comparison to the role she played as Lanfear in books 2-5, but could the title possibly, even if in just some remote way, reference Cyndane here. Remember in WH she has just decided that, rather than try to love Rand/Lews Therin, she will kill him, as we see from her PoV at the Battle Near Shaidar Logoth. Winter's heart would surely be an icy, snowy, white thing; winter symbolizes darkness, and woman. Lanfear is the ultimate female channeler, the one with "an icy heart" for Lews Therin; o…

  9. So I am on Dragonmount as usual, having a browse through all the wacky and wonderful theories that we have been blessed with and then I get hit in the face with something I thought was pretty intense. I will let you see for yourselves. Luckers posted this earlier today. I thought, wow, that sounds like something Team Jordan would likely keep pretty open, but it is true. So, what does this mean? I think it was a very good answer. We get something out of it, yet more questions arise. What on earth is going on? Why would Taim have stones from SG? What is so special about them? Also gives new meaning to the phrase: "his …

Beldeine, Elsa, Erian, Nesune, and Sarine all swore fealty to Rand. What binds them? Is it just their word (Do the Three Oaths make Rand believe they will stay loyal?), or did they use another ter'angreal, Like the Oath Rod? I AM STILL READING COT, SO PLEASE NO SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!

  12. In TDR Chapter 6, this is quoted by Moiraine as one of the things Rand is meant to do. Now, on wot.wikia, this is hyperlinked as referring to the Cleansing of Saidin, however I'm not entirely convinced by this. Why not? Because the cleansing did not heal any wounds of madness. Indeed, specific reference is made to this by "Lews Therin" in a conversation with Rand : [i think it's in Chapter 20 of KoD, but I don't have my copy at university, nevertheless it's true and obvious] that the cleansing did not heal what was already there. Now, I think it's most likely that I'm reading too much into this: indeed, the return of "hope" has been a consistent theme with…

  13. I'm sure this has been done before, but I couldn't find it within the last 10 pages, so I figured it was OK to start this. I'm just curious, not really wanting a contest, with people posting higher and higher numbers for "pride of place". Most regular posters seems quite knowledgeable of the series, and was curious to see if there is any type of average, or if it is all over the place. Thanks for honest answers!

Hi! So I'm in the process of rereading the series in preparation for January (yay!) and at the end of my copy of Eye Of The World, there was a weird symbol type thing at the bottom of the last page of Chapter 47. It reads "E.O.T.W. - 33". I have no clue what it means and I've looked a few times in Chapter 33 and on page 33 but can't find anything that might relate. Anyone else find this or know what it might mean?

Please vote for however many of the different mediums you use, and in your post explain which is your primary medium for WoT consumption, and why. Hadn't seen this recently, and was kind of curious to see how DM users imbibe their WoT. While I do still enjoy reading the series on printed page, my primary consumption of books switched about three years ago to digital editions. I put all of the books on my smart-phone, and I have the entire series on hand whenever I want it. Considering the size of some of the paperbacks, it can look VERY conspicuous trying to carry a WoT book in your pocket to read whenever you have a free moment. (Believe me, I know. I used to …

Hello everyone. I have been coming to this site off and on for awhile now and reading theories and what-nots and I read a theory on another site recently that got me to thinking. It deals with Min's viewings and other prophecies about Rand. One of her viewings involved Elayne having a severed hand image (not hers), One about Rand gripping Callandor in a black hand, and one of the prophecies states that ".He shall hold a blade of light in his hands, and the three shall be one" so I'm thinking that maybe Elayne or someone near her will be able to craft a new hand for Rand allowing him to use Callandor with both hands instead of just his right one. I'm probably way off …

So I been on a huge reading kick in the last few years. I read every Shannara book. Way of Kings, Both Kingkiller books. Mistborn series as well as Sandersons other works. Now I am on Knife of Dreams. And I am wondering when would be the best time to read New Spring? Really said that Robert Jordan passed away but I am so glad I came acrossed Wheel of Time. I heard of it more then a decade ago and it took me this long to pick it up. I am most definitely pleased I did. EDIT: I just saw the other post about this same subject but decided to just leave this post since I speak about Robert Jordan too.

A friend of mine that suggested I read 'A Song of Ice and Fire' suggested now that I've read all of those books and liked them that I should give 'The Wheel of Time' a try. I was at the bookshop and saw that there is a book called 'A New Spring' which is the prequel and then 'The Eye of the World' which is the first book. Should I start with the prequel or with book 1? I'm going on holiday for 10 days and I want to pick up the series to read while I relax. Thanks!!!

Sorry if this has already been discussed,i checked but did not see an answer. I also wondered how Padan Fain got to Baerlon so fast, but that was answered later in the book. Fain gets to Whitebridge a week before(assuming he's the 'weasilly' fellow) Rand,Mat and Thom; and another day before Moiraine and co..How? The trips from SL were 13 days by boat; 14 days by horse; and only 6 days for Fain -on foot!! Since the path on land was through forests, etc; would think it should take a bit longer, especially on foot. The boat had by far the easiest path(even with headwinds),as they were moving with the current, and had men rowing the boat. If Fain still had fades and trollocs t…

Not necessarily your favorite characters overall, but which characters shine most in which books? Mine: The Eye of the World: Rand, Moiraine, Thom (my favorite in this book), Lan The Great Hunt: Rand, Verin, Ingtar, Selene, Thom (again, probably my favorite in the book), Moiraine The Dragon Reborn: Moiraine, Thom, Perrin (he pretty much dominates this book with so many scenes) The Shadow Rising: Rand, Perrin, Nynaeve, Lanfear, Loial (although his actions are more off-screen - closing the Waygate and saving kids in Stone) The Fires of Heaven: Lanfear (bitch mode FTW), Moiraine, Rand, Rahvin, Mat, Asmodean That's as far as I've gotten in my re-read, …

i have had fun reading through the tropes for the wheel of time every now and then over the last few years. if you take the books too serious it might bug you, but i find them fun myself: http://tvtropes.org/...eWheelOfTimea . fun thing to do on that website is to look up other books or series you might enjoy and check them out as well, for me it was the emberverse, pern, island in the sea of time, and a few others. but for me it is always comedic to see a stereotypical view of your favorite books or series. it shouldn't change your love for the books (or even tv shows or movies) but let you see how common some ideas there might be generic. just fun. island in the sea o…

"Through a crack in the wall sees a dozen men. Their leader is Adden. From the discussion it is clear that the three of them are to be sold. Another man, Coke, enters and says the buyer is still not there. A fat man says they will not wake for hours because of the drug he gave them. She wakes Nynaeve. Nynaeve knows the drug they used, sleepwell. It actually just cures headaches and makes one sleepy. She examines Elayne who is badly hurt and Heals her. When they look through the crack again they see that three Fades have arrived." this is from a summary due to my book having fallen to bits. But I think this is an early example of fades using bandits and such to buy…

Can someone explain the whole Birgitte getting pulled out of tel'aran'rhiod thing? I don't understand it at all. Lots of poeple die in tel'aran'rhiod but why does Birgitte get pulled back into the real world? Is it just because she is a hero or something or is there something more meaningful that Moghedien did to her? Also, does the silver arrow that appears there have any hidden meaning or is it just there so that Thom and Julian can have an idea of who she really is?

  26. If this is addressed elsewhere, I apologize for the repost. Please point me to that discussion. :) During my reread last week of The Great Hunt, I had this thought. Aes Sedai are bound to the Oath Rod and they can't use the One Power to harm others unless their lives are threatened. So, how can the Seahchan use captured Aes Sedai to throw fireballs and cause earthquakes etc unless the Aes Sedai are put into dangerous situations? Is there something about the a'dam that brokes the oaths they've made to the Oath Rod? I don't believe so.

I, like so many others, am in the midst of my final reread. I am on TSR and just got to the part where Perrin gets hit with a trolloc arrow. They take him back to EF and Alanna heals him. Here is the quote: I know she may have been probing his illness, but at the time she is not toching him yet, and is still speaking with fail after coming into the room. She doesnt actually heal or check his wounds until he is moved to the table. Just seems odd that Perrin was able to feel the tingle of the Power. I seem to remember this happening in one of the earlier books as well but cant seem to find it now. Any thoughts?

Ok, so, there's something about the Gholam that has been friking me out since I first read the books. 1) Why the hell wouldn't they cut his head off. He would die that way wouldn't he? I know normal people isn't skilled enough to face it, but what about Mat himself? Couldn't he just chop his head off with the Ashandarei? 2) Why not bloody burn him? He unravels whatever touches him, but what about just igniting the aire surrounding him or throwing a blast of fire or creating a column of fire under him. And I say fire because I like the idea of him burning to ashes, but a lightning bolt thrown to him would do, or much more things. So...why not? Thaaaanks.

  30. Hey everyone, I am writing an essay that is due on Tuesday about Fate and Free will in Fantasy novels (specifically, it's about Guy Gavriel Kay's Tigana, but I'm referring to other sources as well). I know there are quotes in WOT about the pattern, most people having control except ta'veren having less control, and such. If you don't mind helping me find those quotes, what books they are in, and what pages they are on, that would help me greatly and I would much appreciate it! Thanks for the help!
