Ok hear me out. The big twist we'll see in A Memory of Light is that Min is actually the real Lanfear in disguise. Crazy right? Not exactly. Min claims to have seen a viewing of her and Rand together but how do we truly know? It's the Dragon Reborn for crying out loud! She just wanted to sleep with him. Who does this sound like? Lews Therin and Lanfear. And no wonder Moridin can keep close watch on Rand, he has Lanfear with him... Discuss And yes this is a joke but let's see where this discussion goes. It's quite interesting

I'm curious if anyone has a quote from Robert Jordan, either confirming or denying if Healing death is possible? I came across a couple parts towards the end of The Fires of Heaven, that make me ponder it more. (I have always been of the opinion that if anyone discovers how to Heal death, it'll be Nynaeve)... pg. 569 (hc version), in chapter 49, its doing the details of the 3 women following them to Salidar (Nicola, Areina and Marigan- who we now know as Moghedien) "Marigan had dealt with cures and herbs in Samara, though she had some odd ideas about both." "All she had ever wanted to do was cure sickness, and she claimed to have done it well." "...death wa…

In case any of you didn't know, RJ has said this many times. Now obviously they aren't all very similar to his wife. For example, since Harriet seems like a lovely woman, I doubt that Semirhage or Elaida bare too much resemblance to her. Just that each of the female characters have a piece of his wife in them. Reading Theoryland's Matt Hatch's interview with Harriet made me think of this. When she talks about her life, I came across one part that made me think of this topic. Which of course, led me to think of Mesaana. Not sure if this is creepy or what not, if so, delete, but I thought it may be interesting to have a look at. What parts…

It has to happen. Shaidar Haran vs one or more of the Heroes. So who will it be? Rand seems the likely answer. But isn't Rand going to take on Moridin/Ishamel? From what I recall of Shaidar Haran, he can block channelers from reaching the True Source. So whoever fights him will have to do it with melee weapons. So maybe an Asha'man, like Narishma?

I know it's well into discussions on the comments of the article, but I didn't see this posted here yet, in the actual discussion section. If it's around somewhere feel free to delete this thread. Blue - are those streaks of gray in her hair? Can't be Alivia, she has golden hair. Possibly Moraine just by the dress colour. Some people mentioned they could see the jewel on her forehead on some tor.com sketches. If someone has those please post them! Possibly Egwene I guess, though I think she's taken up wearing more green... Yellow - Possibly Alivia, hair colour is right. I highly doubt it's Nynaeve since the hair is cropped pretty short and seems light, though who …

After a long discussion on another board, something occurred to me. I've mentioned elsewhere that I'm a bit unsure about the idea or balance between a Creator and a Destroyer, if both are omnipotent. Anything the Creator makes, the Dark One surely destroys at once; the Creator makes it again; and so on. What we have must be a system which both exists and does not exist, simultaneously. Impossible? Not necessarily; just ask Schrödinger's cat. Now I believe there are a couple of ensigns on Deck 39 who know nothing about the said moggy; but in case one of them has wandered up here in search of a stiff prune juice, I shall expound. Schrödinger, and many of his…

The gathering hunt chapter 7: Daughter of the Night she walks again. The ancient war, she yet fights. Her new lover she seeks, who shall serve her and die, yet serve still. Now I've been thinking about this for some time. Rand seems to be the logical answer here, however he does not fit the picture of 'Her new lover' Ever since he (when he wore the new Lews Therin) ditched Mierin, he never held any feelings for her anymore nor did he bed her. So why would Rand be her 'NEW lover'? In tSR, Asmodean and Lanfear went into the waste, Asmo to obtain the Choedan Khal, Lanfear to trick him into serving Rand. This IMO seems very off considering how other Forsaken b…

Okay, I've been unable to find an answer to this on google, so here's my question: Rand destroys the male Choedan Kal at the end of the gathering storm, so what "key" is he using when he destroys Graendel's palace at the beginning of ToM? ToM specifically calls it a key, so I'm confused. If he still has the access key, but nothing for it to access, how can it still work and what would have been the point of destroying what it accessed? If it's the same key, is it just a powerful angreal now? I'm really confused. Appreciate the help.

Is there the possibility of Olver being the newest incarnation of Birgitte's male partner, Gaidal Cain? Gaidal has always been described as an ugly faced warrior, and in one of the index's is described as being very charming and good with women despite his looks. Does Olver fit the picture?

So, a big thing in the WoT is the strength of Aes Sedai's will, and we have some very strong-headed characters (male and female). Since the LB is here, and the DO spreads despair and gloom around the world, I thought this would be an interesting topic. Hypothetical question here: If the Shadow managed to get their hands on all the people in the poll, and began interrogating them all, who would stand the best chance of remaining faithful and resisting the...persuasion... of the DO? Who has the strongest conviction? Purely on willpower, nothing else. Since circumstances and such give certain characters an advantage, for the sake of "equality" and being based pur…

I had always wondered when Perrin had the arrow in him during his battle in the Two Rivers when Verin made him wait for Alanna to heal him when he almost died. Was it then we should have been aware that Verin was a darkfriend and afraid that if she openly helped one of the three boys she might be punished? I'll not disagree that Alanna might be better with Healing, but Verin didn't even try. When Rand was hurt in the tent by Fain's dagger, Cadsuane tried Healing him immediately. The Aes Sedai with her, (forgot her name), told Cadsuane that if she hadn't tried Healing him immediately that she might not have been able to save him as much as she did and that he still …

Min forsaw that the AS would keep their oath to follow Rand until the last battle. but Elza did not keep that oath. Parse it if you can. Also I don't think an AS could break the oaths or lie if put under compulsion as it seems that it is involuntary. but if compulsion could break the oaths, that still would not free Min of failure. Min's vision is that, they will not betray you (after the fact, so no loop holes) where as by an oath we can say, I can't lie, but the lie said under compulsion was not my choice (see the problem with this, choice has nothing to do with it). and please don't read into Min's words that Elza thought it was okay to put Rand under the Domi…

I think the discs function to be the focal points for the weaves that close DO's prison, so logically they would be converted to cuellidar after the weaves were made, but if so, with 100 men, how did they make the other half white? (without women) Also curious is the half black half white, where did they find a woman and a man of equal strength, note the pattern would been made by two people picking a point and channeling, the flows would spread equally in all directions and once the the two circles touched they would fill the remaining disc in this pattern, I guess, the problem being that women and men are not equal in strength...

So, I tend to come back to WoT theorycrafting every time I reread the series and then drift away again. This leads to me missing alot of the interview questions and such that come around in the gaps. So I was wondering if people would be kind enough to post your favorite "Important things that aren't in the books". I know there are lots, but the lists of interviews on Theoryland et al. are intimidating and I would like some of you knowlegable people to filter out the dross for me/anyone like me if that is appropriate. Things like 'The Black Tower is built of Shayol Ghul rock' is important to know if you want to partake in discussions here and it is hard for new/return…

Darrell K. Sweet's rough draft will be going live today at 1pm EST. To be clear, this won't actually be the cover, as Michael Whelan has taken over since Darrell passed. And Brandon confirmed to me the other day that Michael is doing a different scene to what Darrell drew. But I will say this, though Darrell's work is rough and has a few inconsistancies, it is probably his best since EotW. And its of something pretty amazing. :)

I looked for a discussion already started about this but I couldn't find one so sorry if this is a repost. So this is all speculation but these two seem so blatantly similar but I have heard that Jordan said that Mazrim Taim is not Demandred or that Demandred has not appeared in the books as someone we know yet or something like that. It's driving me crazy as I'm reading through them again.(on book 6 atm) What do y'all think. Part of me thinks he is Mazrim Taim and part of me thinks Jordan is trying to make it so obvious that we will be surprised later when he someone completely different. Who do you think Demandred is?.

Just a thought-not sure if anyone else has had it.... I was just thinking that it did not make sense for Verin to leave the fate of Caemlyn up to Mat in a gamble of her own...she could easily have given warning to anyone or multiple people.... So did she then have some sort of information regarding a possible "twist of fate/the pattern" that would have ended badly with Mat being at FoM when the battle began? Perhaps this letter was to trick Mat into going to rescue Moiraine at the appropriate time, or maybe just to keep him away to avoid a tragic future in some area for either him or the pattern?...It just doesnt't seem like the reason was that "simple" as Verin w…

Okay I surfing the interview database and came across this. So we know Cuendillar can be destroyed, and one way is by using the TP. But what is the other way? I'm think it has to do with undoing the weave that makes it. Since weaves can be potentially unweaved, it makes sense that when you create cuendillar that it's just a permanent weave that, with a lot of prodding and concentration, can be picked apart. Now in my opinion, I don't think this is the way, seems to simple. I mean, I know figuring it out and doing so would be very difficult, but I still think it shoulod be more difficult than just picking the weave apart. And of course balefiring someone who ma…

A Cherokee is telling his grandson about a fight that is going on inside himself. He said it is between 2 wolves. One is evil: Anger, envy, sorrow, regret, fearful thinking, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego. The other is good: Joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf wins?" The Cherokee simply replied, "The one I feed." In the WoT I see the light side as life and creation and I see the dark side as…

Afternoon Tea with Brandon Sanderson Hey everyone, so I was down in Melbourne for SupaNova, during which Brandon was in attendance, dressed in a ta’veren tee and sporting a hat that kind of reminded me of Mat’s, which, as everyone knows, is an angreal. Heh, in any case he took some time to answer some questions, first in the green room on the Saturday where we sat down and had a good chat—not just about the questions, but in general, which was fun—and then he allowed me to hang around awkwardly on the Sunday and get through the last few that we hadn’t managed to touch on yet. Quick provision though, Brandon was very clear with me that he writes with the no…

Demystifying the Song The Song is one of the favourite topics for discussion amongst the fans, with theories ranging from how Perrin will find it, how the Aiel who went to the Tuatha’an will find it, how Rand will use it to sing close the bore, and half a hundred other things as well. But whilst people love to think about the finding and use of the Song, very rarely do people actually consider the Song itself. What is the Song? Elyas describes the Song thus... So a Song which will bring peace and return the world to the paradise it knew in the Age of Legends. Unfortunately for the Tuatha’an this Song does not, and never has existed. We see the ori…

This is my first port ever so if I am posting something that has already been discounted, please disregard. So here is my theory about Rand’s Death. So we all know that in order for Rand to live, he must die but they never specified which age he would live in. Since we know that if the DO wins the last battle, the pattern gets torn apart and everything ceases to exist ever again, but if the forces of good win, then there is a new age and the wheel continues to turns. So my theory is that Rand will win but won’t live again until the Pattern needs the Dragon again, just like LT lives again in Rand. That’s why you have the viewing of three women standing over Rand’s body…

In regards to the book "the Dragon Reborn": Was the merchant woman and her guards that rand killed (they approached him and asked if they could share his fire) just normal people, or dark friends? If they were just normal people, that makes him a murderer, so please tell me they were dark friends. I hope I just missed something.

I personally believe that Shara and LoM (maybe) might not be in AMoL but then included in another book that would be like lotr's Untold Stories. Then Shara could be on par with the war in the north in lotr and in that book all of Sharan culture and history could be explored. But I am intrestedto see your ideas. ( sorry for any bad spelling or grammar, I did this on my ipod)

It's been awhile since I've read WOT. In fact, I'm waiting for the finalization of the series, then I will go back and read them all at in a row again. Something has been nagging me though. I'm in the military and recently took a POW course. Something I heard there brought some things from WoT back to me. I remember a lesson that kinda unfolded for me. It goes something like this: What can't be changed, must be endured. What must be endured, can be endured. I seem to remember a third line to that, but I can't remember what it is. Does anyone have any suggestions? Spoilers are okay if necessary. Thanks!

Although removing the damane threat in the heat of battle would be much wiser (as the damane population is considerably less), strategically speaking removing the sul'dam's capability to channel (like with Siuan/Leane and Moghedien) and essentially freeing the damane (for TG use, sul'dam take a long time comparatively to de-brainwash) seems a better idea for the long run. It seems as if the a'dam is a link (but does the link include the sul'dam's strength?), but we have never seen the glow around the sul'dam making me believe that they would not be affected by the effects of severing whilst someone holds the OP effectively becoming easy to disable as the damane would, I a…

This is a question that has always disturbed me. I mean Mat runs amok and kills few thousands of their forces Tylin Khirgee has a sizable fore with her Rodel killed a force of about fifty thousand outside that city and had a force almost double that size on his tail. exactly how many people does Seanchan have on this side of the ocean? it puts just warriors at several hundred thousand. Important thing to remember is that they did not have travelling until recently. It means that they can only cross the Aryth ocean on their ships. Also these ships need to carry grolms, raken, toraken, all the traders and craftsmen. it literally means that they will need ships in excess of …

Here's something that has always bothered me a little bit. First some setup: I think it is safe to assume (if it hasn't been confirmed by RJ, BS, or Harriet, I don't know) that Perrin and Matt are also Heroes of the Horn. Not just because of their epic nature but also I think it is implied when you look at the War of the Power in the AoL. Birgitte was present then, along Gaidal (sp?), so it seems safe to guess that there is more than Rand as an active Horn Hero coming up to the Last Battle. Now, back to my main topic. If they are, it always kind of disturbs me that the Hero's of the Horn really only acknowledge Rand as someone they know from Past lives when th…
