  4. I read the interview in which Robert Jordan explained why the Forsaken were ineffective in the battle at Shadar Logoth, and I find that it makes sense. However, why are all of the Shadow's minions and efforts so pathetically useless? The Dark One wants chaos - okay, why not order his minions to become serial killers who kill at random? That should be guaranteed to cause more chaos than what they've been doing so far, and, in my opinion, it would certainly be more threatening to people who walk in the Light than the stupid schemes that have been going on so far. Granted, Graendal and Demandred had some significant successes, and I guess Mesaana and Aran'gar were d…

I finally got my girlfriend to read the series for the first time, she's on book 3 and loves it. Anyway, after Mat's healed (the part she's on) Siuan Sanche mentions something offhand, that he reminds her of her father... Ch 20 (TDR) "He was a gambler and good for nothing, but he died pulling children out of a burning house." At the end of book 13, Olver goes running into a city which appears to be on fire... I noticed a few people on the boards have been speculating that some of the prophecies are actually referring to Cairhein... I couldn't find anything like this anywhere else... my thoughts on this aren't really fully developed yet. Anyone else have …

  6. The other day I looked up the release date of A Memory of Light, and was dismayed to discover January 8th, 2013 as the date to mark down, although I will need to buy next year’s calendar to do so. Yet, after my initial disappointment I began reflect. I don’t remember exactly how old I was when I first read The Eye of the World, but I think it was around grade 7 or so, making it roughly 12 years ago when a wind swept across the Rocky Mountains, from the Crowsnest Pass, through Pincher Creek and across the plains of Southern Alberta and into my home. It was a beginning. What I do remember is my mom buying it for me because a guy working at Chapters recommended i…

  7. How far can a channeler Travel with the One Power? I know they can Travel anywhere on the globe, and enter Tel'aran'rhiod through a slightly different weave, but is it possible to Travel to other planets, or even planets in other galaxies?" Robert Jordan Answers: Travel to other planets within the solar system would require a circle of fairly strong channelers, though not necessarily as many as thirteen, depending on exactly how far out they wanted to go. Travel to a planet in another solar system would require a rather large circle (of the maximum possible size) of very strong channelers, and there would a limit on how far they could go in one jump. They could planet…

This is a crazy idea of mine - or maybe it was actually an offical "theory" and I haven't come across it - but in one of the prophecies of the Dragon it says something like "in order to defeat the Dark One, the two must become one". Rand assumes that means he needs to make an alliance with the Seanchan, but from what we've seen with prophecies they never turn out as expected. I was wondering what do you guys think about the possibility of Moridin and Rand being almost like two halves? Because Min saw a viewing of Rand merging with another man and Rand assumed that meant Lews Therin, but at the end of GS he realised "they were not separate and never had been" so the mergin…

I'm ticked at Faile. She is a jerk to Perrin in Lord of Chaos with the whole "Don't go for Berelain thing". The she gets to be a servant, which I enjoyed, because I love Perrin, and was still mad at her for Lord of Chaos. Then she goes and cheats on him with Roland. Sure some people would say she didn't have much of a choice, but she did, she was a pretty bad wife, she could have just slapped Roland, and took the punishment, but staying true to her husband, which I would have done, staying pure rather than cheat on my spouce. I love Perrin he is awesome, he seriously deserves better. The most Faile could do is say sorry and adress it, rather then this whole Perrin wi…

  10. Do you think in a Memory of light Faile will make a bigger deal about the death of Rolan? I personally was quite angry that she basically just shrugged her shoulders and said oh well. I mean the way she reacted was just sad in my opinion. For someone who protected her, saved her from being raped numerous times, and obviously cared very much for her she just did not seem upset at all! I was really angry that Rolan died. I just wanted to slap Perrin. Anyone else feel the same?

There have been a million Topics here over the years talking about ''All-Time Favorite Scenes'' and while I never get tired of reading other's takes on classic scenes, I thought it might be fun to put a slightly new twist on a familiar subject. There are many awesome scenes in WOT and many of us share similar fave: Dumai's Wells, The Cleansing, Moiraine telling the Manatheren story in TEOTW, Mat's duel with Couladin, the ''Deathgates'' Mat finally reading Moiraine's letter etc, etc, etc... All epic moments, but, how about...if we share some parts that maybe have always been our own personal fave scenes that are not really among the ''usual'' fave parts that get me…

Hey guys, here's my question. What happened to the whole Mesaana hating Alviarin issue? RJ made such a big deal of the Shaidar Haran marking Alviarin and Mesaana hating Alviarin, that I thought this was going to have some sort of story line. But at the battle in the White Tower, it seems that Mesaana does not even think about it, and Alviarin is simply working for her again. Does Alviarin being marked still have some role to play? What do you think?

So, all the darkfriends we've seen in the series have been darkfriends for years, which it occurs to me is kind of strange given that now TG is in sight, so too are the greatest of the potential benefits of being a darkfriend--immortality. Where are the Demandred's and Be'lal's of Tarmon Gai'don? One possibility is Bashere, with Min's viewing about it being bad if Bashere turns on Rand, or died--I've always thought he would die, as that would need to happen anyway given Min's viewing of the Broken Crown around Perrin, but him turning would invalidate him just as thoroughly. My other thought was maybe Zaida--it would fit with Sea Folk greed--sort of a 'the Coramoor…

Once the last battle has been fought and Rand (most likely) wins, what do you suppose the asha'man will do with themselves?

  17. It has probably been answered before, but I forget, and can't seem to find a quote from RJ regarding the extent of my question. I know he explains HOW the body-swapping deal goes, but I was curious as to the following. When the soul of the Forsaken is transferred to the body, what happens to the soul that was in the body previously? Does the DO "eat" the previous soul? Is the soul "pushed out" by the Forsaken's soul? Is it still trapped in there but powerless? Is the person dead at the time, thus meaning the soul has already left the body? From recollection, I think that it is the last one, just a dead body (or husk) used. But then this also brings up…

  18. This is just a fun little thread, where you can outline ways of using the source, that it isnt done yet. Bonus points for funny ideas. My ideas: - Mailboxes with tied off gateways of 1x1 foot or less, that drops the letter in a similar box in another city. I.e. want to send a letter from Caemlyn to Tear? Drop it in the Blue letter box, and it will instantly drop out of the similar box in tear. Each city would have its own boxes with its livery on. - Same concept, but for indoor toilets. Only the endpoint would be some random place in the waste. Instant sewerage.

  19. mine has to be Egwene. her chapters were really boring, even in Salidar. But once she got held captive I started craving her chapters. Each time I got to one I got excited because I knew this chapter was going to be incredibly interesting. Is it just me or are these some of the best chapters in the whole series?

Brandon Sanderson recently posted this. "Just wrote a scene with Bela in it. This scene is one that RJ left instructions for in his notes; it gave me shivers when reading." My opinion is Egwene gets killed and Bela makes some weeping cry over it. I say this because we know from Brandon's statements in the past that RJ left specific notes on the fate of all important characters and if this one gave shivers to him and it pertained to Bela, I'd say Egwene was involved. And I say this because he's also confirmed in the past that Bela lives so we know it's not Belas death.

I'm starting Wheel of Time D20. I'm trying to set this up, so people who haven't read the books can play, and it not ruin the story for them. For this reason, I've deiced to set the story in Age of Legends. I feel I will have more elbo room in the Second Age. The first and man problem, is the lack of information. I have a pretty good grasp of Cultural anthropology, and will be able to disseminate the cultures of areas, but what conquests they've made, and those who've conquered them. This wont be near as accurate as it would be if I could ask Robert Jordan. But that's not possible, so I'll take what I can get. At this point I want to at least get a map of t…

So I was wondering...... 'Should' Egwene die during the Last Battle, who do you think would be the best replacement in these times to assume the Seat? Assuming they don't go for Rand if he lives.

  24. Started by Phariah,

ok we seen in GS how Rand uses compulsion to check if he kills his intended target. than in ToM we see it from the Forsaken's view. Aran and Delina die and the compulsion dissappears, no trace it is erased. now in ToM we have Morgase and Elayne talking. Morgase still feels something towards Rahvin, and Elayne offers to get her healed. if Rahvin died to Rand's balefire shouldn't the compulsion be erased also? to add to this Ny was there when Rahvin died but she saw a flash and he was gone. there was no moment of black/ white dust motes. we know someone who channeled died because Avi and others were brought back from death. yet Morgase didn't have her compulsion rem…

People in this age honestly must have problems with their feet or something. I am at the part where Perrin is about to save Galad from trollocs in ToM, and Galad just twisted his ankle. I swear the in the past two books there were 3-4 people who did the same thing. Just saying.

  28. Re-listening to book 1 again as I go through the series again. For the most part, it's very impressive how consistent the series is starting from book 1. However, there are a number of things that Moiraine claims to be able to do that don't seem to be consistent. A couple of times she states that her mere pressence as "someone who can touch the true source" would protect them. In that case, wouldn't Nyneave, Rand, and Egwene also give that protection? I can understand that she could use wards, but right after that she says that she can't use wards because it would be like a beacon. Most of this occured at the Queen's Blessing after the group was reunited, …

(First, do we have something like this? I couldn't find anything, but my search skills may be rusty. If so, feel free to ignore.) I wanted some place to record the quotes that, on reread, are either more significant or simply more interesting. I don't have the stamina to create a full blog for my reread, but I do occasionally want to make short observations. These aren't my favorite quotes, simply the ones that pull me up short when I encounter them while reading the books to prep for AMoL. Here's one that caught me yesterday, from TSR: On telling Egwene that the Windfinders can channel. I chuckled a bit, thinking about the near 180 Egwene does about n…

Terez used this dream to convince us that Rand and Ba'alzamon will merge, becoming two souls in one body. They will merge, yes, but they won't merge in that way. There is much more to be seen in this dream, and if she didn't I advise her to visit the top of Dragonmount. When I read this dream I see much more: I see 10,000 mirrors, each representing a mirror world. On each of those mirror worlds I see Rand. And I see all those Rands merge. I see 10,000 Ba'alzamons; merging. I see a ter'angreal that doesn't need channeling, hiding Rand. And finally I see that SuperRand and that SuperBa'alzamon merge. Although opposite, they will become one in battle. Just as Egwen…
