With the second season of The Wheel of Time just a few weeks away we are getting weekly WOT Wednesday news. Today was a new trailer with the big news that the first three episodes of the second season will drop on September first. The other big drop today was a behind-the-scenes look at the Trollocs the “nightmare fuel” monsters for the dark. We hear from Rosamund Pike showrunner Rafe Judkins producers Mark Weber and Justine Juel Gillmer and make-up designer Nick Dudman. The trollocs are genetically engineered creatures created through a mix of human and animals like birds boars and bears. …

I like pastiches which maintain original voice or style and looks something like what Doyle will actually write and set in the canonical universe. So no female sherlock, sherlock in mars, or things that go out of characters. Kindly recommend them here, please.

We leave this in written form, for there is no other way for us to tell you this - we love you. You are our brothers and sisters on Earth. I know that our actions make you believe we favor the Elves, but that is not true - we love you no less than we loved them. I shall confess that we often struggle to understand you, but despite all your flaws, we have always known your beauty and we have always known this - you are worth fighting for. Because of that we will do what we will. Sauron has been defeated - Olórin has succeeded and we have no way to thank him. But nonetheless, he remains in Arda - he might be weak, but he can still cause so much suffering. And I do n…

Hello, I've recently completed book one of my fantasy series, Secrets of the Rainbow Bridge. I loved WOT which partly inspired/influenced me to write my own epic length fantasy. It's a long manuscript at 340k words. The style is certainly different than WOT, but if you are interested in a long read with deep world building then maybe you'll like this. Here is the blurb: "Baudwin is a water Faery who is two hundred years old – still quite young mind you. For his entire life he has wondered where his mother vanished, after a time of great travail and upheaval in his realm. This burden has been quite heavy, as without her, he was never joi…

Obviously, it is tinfoil and not likely, but I always like to believe that, after Morgoth was banished by the Valar into the Void, Eru changed the flow of time in the world to be cyclical, so that he could never leave the Void. So, the world wasn't always cyclical: it became so later, say after War of Wrath or after Sauron's defeat in War of the Ring. Sauron, since he was the last to be defeated, has some freedom to walk the world, so he takes the form of a Myrddraal, named Shaidar Haran and serves his master the best way he can. Morgoth tries to, with his host of fallen Maiar, escape from the Void, but the Champion of Eru is always there t…

Who do you think has better skill with different POVs? I think George R. R. Martin and Robert Jordan are the best in building POV and getting you into character's thoughts and head, but I would give an edge to Martin, mostly because what he tries to do with his POVs is a bit harder. Thoughts?

When I say stance/view, I mean how you see RJ's work. Do you see it from a book purist viewpoint? Do you see it from a highly flexible viewpoint? Do you have a mixture of the two? I have had a hankering for finding someone to chat with about the work of RJ. I'd like to talk to someone, but I don't necessarily want someone just like me. I wouldn't mind it of course, but I don't want to always agree with what they say (haha), and having a different view does challenge your knowledge on the subject and can make something you've missed into an excellent learning experience!! I obviously have my own view of how RJ's work is and y…

I'll explain my problem now: So, I am writing a fic...a multiversal fanfic I posted about few days ago, and the reason I am posting this specifically here is because I've ran into several problems with one (out of millions) specific character: Rand. The fanfic is basically about the Apocalypse to the entire Multiverse. Dark One (who I also identified with Morgoth from Tolkien's Legendarium) has been fully released and he has raised the greatest army in all of existence. The main characters from all kinds of stories (from First Law and A Song of Ice and Fire to Marvel and DC), the heroes (and a couple villains though) have met each other and united to fight…

So, got a new laptop for work last week. It comes with Windows 11 pre-installed. Yay. Does anyone know how to get it to: 1) show less crap top and bottom so I can see more than a few lines of my spreadsheets 2) show all my open spreadsheets (excel), documents (word and pdf) INDIVIDUALLY at the bottom? Currently I can only find a way for it to bundled all my excel spreadsheets in 1 button, all the word docs in another button, etc - that doesn't work if you're hopping between multiple ones all the time.

Rajiv Moté is Dragonmount’s book blogger with a lens on the craft of fiction writing. When he’s not directing software engineers, he writes fiction of his own, which can be found catalogued at his website. The New York Times published an article, “Hobbits and the Hard Right: How Fantasy Inspires Italy’s Potential New Leader,” about how Italy’s fascist movement has used J.R.R. Tolkien’s work as their core myths. Author and neuroscientist Benjamin C. Kinney noted in a Tweet: Of course, many social and political movements present a romanticized past as a nostalgic ideal, all the way back to the major religions. In the Old Testament, …

Macmillan Audio announced today that Rosamund Pike, who plays Moiraine in Prime Video's TV show, will narrate new versions of Robert Jordan's second and third Wheel of Time novels, The Great Hunt, and The Dragon Reborn. The new version of The Great Hunt will be available August 2, 2022, and The Dragon Reborn will arrive sometime in 2023. The most well-known of versions of these audiobooks were recorded by the real-life husband and wife duo of Michael Kramer and Kate Reading. Prior to them, during the early 1990's, actor Mark Rolstrom recorded both abridged and unabridged versions. Long-time fans can be rest assured that the older versions of both …

JodanCon Day 3 is the saddest! It’s time to say goodbye to friends and family. It’s time to leave the hotel that offered us sanctuary for the past few days. It’s time to put our costumes in the closet until next year (or the next local con). Sunday feels bitter-sweet. Looking back over the weekend, we had the time of our lives, but all good things must come to an end. Here are some highlights from today. Matt Hatch recorded a live Dusty Wheel episode in the lobby. This amazing event—with lots of fan participation—is worth a watch. You can see all of Matt’s JordanCon videos here. The Wheel of Time Track had a panel on ranking our favorit…

JodanCon Day 2 is the best! It’s the only full day (unless you count CouchCon after the closing ceremonies) and that means it’s packed from morning to evening. The annual costume contest falls on Saturday, so the cosplayers were out in droves. Wheel of Time cosplays are expected. https://twitter.com/AielMelindhra Brandon Sanderson and cosmere are expected. And at JordanCon, other fandom tie-ins are also expected. https://www.facebook.com/42bananas?__tn__=-UC*F Nothing is off limits for this fandom! Keep that in mind for next year. If you're hesitating over a costume idea, don't. …

JordanCon 2022 kicked off today in Atlanta, Georgia. Despite a smaller, in-person gathering last summer, this feels like returning home after a long hiatus for many of us. Reuniting with friends and family I haven’t seen since 2019 was an amazing experience. So many familiar faces are here. And, so many new ones. Although this may be JordanCon’s biggest attendance so far, the quality of people is still on par for what we expect from this intimate convention. Today, I spoke to three random JordanCon first-timers and all of them were welcomed with open arms. It’s good to know that a large audience won’t break the spirit we strive for: a feeling of family. …

Jason Denzel joined a “WOT You Feeling?” panel on mental health focusing on the effects of loss and grief within The Wheel of Time series. The “WOT You Feeling,” made up of members Ryan, Miki, and Christine, delves into sensitive issues on mental health and how they relate to the world Robert Jordan created. You can follow them on Twitter, or see all their YouTube videos here. Identifying grief within the series is pretty easy. Jason points out that Robert Jordan considered the world dangerous and not an ideal place to live. Many of the characters experience grief throughout the series—Tam never loving another after the death of his wife, Kari, …

Doesn't seem a wot related question, but it relates to the difficulty of adapting. wot was given a massive budget, great actors, great people, all the production time they needed, the implied promise of up to 8 seasons if everything goes well. And it was barely adequate. Despite all the resources put into it, the show was good, but not excellent. And in a lot of cases, it was for the lack of resources. must save money by not making too many sets, must save money by using cgi sparingly, must not hire too many extras to film battles, must cut plots because 64 hours are not enough for the full story. No, let us not discuss rafe's ability or lack thereof. …

I've become hooked on playing it every day and look forward to the new puzzle each day. If I'm lucky I can get the word in three guesses but usually it's 5 or 6. If you play it what are the strategies you use to help figure out the word? I usually try to knock out as many vowels as I can in the first guess and go from there. Some times I'll guess a word even if it puts what I have out of order just to use up more consonants and any remaining vowels. It's hardest when there is a word that had two letters used twice since it doesn't tell you so you just have to guess. I really enjoy words games and this one is no exception
