Sorry - not a WOT or Jordan question here, I hope you guys don't mind! How would you recommend Geroge R.R. Martin as an author? I've never read any of his books, and I want something to sink my teeth into when I've finished my WOT re-read... Whats Song of Ice and Fire about? (I can get the synopsis from Amazon, of course, but I wanted to hear from those who have read it, and read WOT). How involving is it, how well written? Have you read it over and over, the way most of us do WOT? Does he have less / as much / more romantic relationships amongst the characters than Jordan? Or is it more war / battle related? Its not that important to me if there aren't any relati…

I just finished this a couple of days ago. I enjoy some zombies every now and then. I loved the approach of making this read like a work of non-fiction, as if the zombie war had actually happened. It's supposed to be a novel, but it reads like a history book. I kept having to go back and check who an interview subject was when someone from earlier in the book would pop back up again. Has anyone else read this one? I hadn't heard of Max Brooks's earlier zombie book, the Zombie Survival Guide. I'm adding it to my to-read list.

  4. Well, I've read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, have you? Ok, maybe that's not exactly what they had in mind when they suggested this topic, but really, what's up with these books? Aren't we taking recycling a bit too far? I admit, it was funny, but as an avid Jane Austen fan, I couldn't help but wonder what she'd have thought about it. Is there a favorite classic of yours that's been 'revamped' lately? (pun intended) What do you think about these books? Or, if you'd rather, you can tell us about a new book you've discovered that is similar to a classic oldie. Yep, this is exactly the sort of thing we do at the Stedding.

Hey everyone! I'm taking a public speaking course this summer at my college and our first speech that is assigned to us is an informative speech. The topic I picked was my favorite author, Robert Jordan. If anyone knows any good websites that I could use as sources just to get information about his life before and during WoT, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Lindsey

  15. SPOILER RATING: Miniscule and vague to non-existent. Nothing of note is spoiled here at all, but the ultra-paranoid may want to hold off on reading it. From the Wall to Slaver’s Bay, the world is blighted by war and chaos. In Westeros, the War of the Five Kings continues to rumble on, as Stannis Baratheon regroups his forces at Castle Black and prepares to march against the Boltons, with the northern houses divided between the two sides. In King’s Landing, intrigue seethes as two queens prepare to stand trial. In Dorne, long-gestating plans finally start to see fruition. In the Free Cities, an army of exiles and sellswords from Westeros gathers, breaking their cont…

  19. So I was thinking if I were the writer of the WoT, and had access to the internet.. Lol. I would so totally screw around with people on this site and others like it. I would purposefully misdirect while still providing powerful insights into the WOT series, eh eh? Is that just me?

  20. Okay, well, this is a spinoff of an event we held in the Artist, Crafter, and Writer's Guild over the past few months. Basically, the initial concept was a war between the three sub-organizations in which we used artwork, crafts, and stories to launch attacks against one another. The winner of the tourney will be determined at the end of the Faire. Each item in a post is worth the same amount of points and do not, necessarily, have to be original contributions. Just make sure you cite it properly if it is not. You can have multiple items in each post (like multiple poems, or things that you crafted/found, etc). In this version we are going to have a grand mêlée. Y…

  21. England, 1414. Nicholas Hook is a forester and archer involved in a bitter feud with a rival family, the Perrils. The feud eventually sees Hook declared an outlaw, and he flees to France to fight as a mercenary. He is at Soissons when the French retake the city from the Burgundians and brutally sack it in such a violent manner that all of Europe is shocked. Back in England, King Henry V means to pursue his claim to the French throne. Using Soissons as a demonstration of French brutality to inflame his troops (now including Hook), he embarks on the siege of Harfleur. But the French refuse to give battle, forcing Henry to march up the coast...and a confrontation with the va…
