Yesterday on Facebook and Twitter I asked for suggestions for future Fan Art Fridays. I got lots great ideas (and some ridiculous) that I'll be using in the future. One suggestion I saw repeated several times was seeing depictions of some of the locations described in the books. First up is this digital painting by Shenku-Netsou This is Rand's dream of Tar Valon from near the beginning of The Eye of the World. (Is anyone else amused that most of the plot of the first book was "Let's go to Tar Valon!" and Rand doesn't make it there until Towers of Midnight? Just me? Okay.) Tar Valon is always described as a very beautiful, very clean city. Richard Boye…

I need to know how many pops (sodas) you drink a day and about how many hours you sleep for. Please reply quickly, need results ASAP and chat rooms are difficult to work with. I am a nerdy book kid in a cape, I have difficulty just asking people in person.

Hello, So I am trying to get as much reading for fun in before graduate school starts this fall. However, I have tried using Amazon's recommendations and found they aren't too useful. So, I am going to list books/series that I've read and like and am hoping you all may have some suggestions for me. Books/Series I loved: Wheel of Time (of course), The Way of Kings, The Kingkiller Chronicles, Tigana Books/Series I liked: Harry Potter, LoTR, Mistborn series, Forgotten Realms books, Dragonlance books, A Song of Ice and Fire, The Night Angel Trilogy (would have been a Love It group, but I don't do well with rape), Books/Series I thought were ok: The Mag…

Via Twitter and Facebook messages from attendees and his UK publishers, Brandon Sanderson last night won the David Gemmell Legend Award for Best Fantasy Novel of 2010. Both Towers of Midnight and The Way of Kings were nominated, but the win was for The Way of Kings. Congratulations to Brandon! Although this does mean that The Wheel of Time remains completely bereft of any major or credible SFF award (though perhaps A Memory of Light will end the drought, and pick up some nominations for the whole series).

Hello and welcome to the Kin's celebration of... HOBBIES! In this thread, we'll explore some hobbies that people in Jordan's world do. Yes, this means crafty stuff we do today! The Kin is a place where we have a lot of fun creating things and mailing them to each other, so we thought we'd give you a taste of that here (and save you some postage!). During the course of the Faire, we will be showcasing our talents, sharing some of our favorite projects and even giving you a chance to show off how awesome you are at your awesome projects! We're very laid back, so feel free to chat and talk about some of the things you enjoy doing in your free time! Our schedule of event…

As Ogier, we also take great interest in building. Have you ever seen a building in real that made you go "Hey! That looks like the White Tower!" or "Wow! That's just how I pictured the bridge in _______ in WoT!" ? Well, here's your opportunity to share that with the rest of us. I'm starting with the CN tower in Canada. When I think of the White Tower, what I see is very similar to it. How about you?

Not the F word you think, the one that ends in "t" and is a synonym for flatulence. Just want to start off by saying I don't think this is that big a deal. I'm not frothing with indignation here. I'm not whining about having my rights trampled or anything. I'm not crying 'Nazi'. I just think that it's more than a little silly. I made a post in the comments section of one of the news articles and it was deleted. Maybe the mod that made this decision can give me a brief explanation, and tell me what rule I broke. Or not. Whatever.

In the Black Tower we have a One Power Fight called Dore Saidin. This involves using levels in elements of the One Power and some rollers to fight against an opponent. I thought it would be great to introduce those that have never seen the game and allow them to play after a little tutorial. All those interested, please sign in here and I will get the tutorial started really soon.

Hello, General Discussers! Ok, this has been bugging me for a few days now. Basically when I log onto the internet, here and there certain words or phrases have suddenly started appearing as links in underlined green text. The phrases that are highlighted are not always the same. For example, on Dragonmount the words "computer graphics" in the ACW description were highlighted, and if I hover over it with the cursor it looks like those words are a link. But a few minutes ago it wasnt the same words that were highlighted, and this is not just happening on Dragonmount. Different phrases, and on different sites, random as far as I can tell at this point. I hav…

We all know about the Game of Foxes and Snakes in WoT. What other games and sports do you think they would have played? What games that we play nowadays do you think would fit in with WoT and why. How would the games and sports be different from Rand's time to the Age of Legends.? do you think that there isn't much reference about games and sports in the books?

Now, I know I am officially on a LoA due to exams and moving at the moment, but I took a day off today as I was given the chance to meet Brandon Sanderson (thanks Kath) and act in an official capacity for Dragonmount. I am currently writing up my report (I hope it isn't too long - nearly 4 pages in Word!), and waiting for my girlfriend to email me the pictures of the day. Overall, the 3 hour plus book signing was a massive success! It was a thoroughly enjoyable day, and hope it opened up the fact there are fans in Europe who would love something similar to what happens in North America. Full report and photos to follow. And there are plenty of goodies in the repo…

The near future. In India and China many thousands of gamers are slaving in PC sweatshops, working as gold farmers, accumulating virtual money in various online games and then selling it for real money to rich Western players who can't be bothered to put the grindwork in. However, there are growing calls for the gold farmers to unite and unionise for better conditions. And when that happens, the authorities strike back hard. For the Win is based around the process of 'gold farming', a problem in modern computer games like World of WarCraft where poor players in the Far East do the hard work to make money for players in the West. The novel predicts that in the near fut…

I REALLY need a new book series sort of like WoT. Unfortunately I can't read stuff like A Song of Ice and Fire because I just turned 11 yesterday. If you know any awesome fantasy books that don't have sex scenes or people calling other people whores please tell me. The more similar to WoT the better. Thanks.

A year ago, the famous swordsman Ringil Eskiath, hero of Gallow's Gap, prevented the return of the Dwenda, the ancient rulers of mankind, to the Earth. Ringil and his wartime allies, Egar the barbarian warrior and the half-Kiriath agent Archeth, stand vigilant against any future incursions by this foe. Now Egar, Archeth and Ringil face separate mysteries. A bar-room brawl and reports of slaves being held in unusual circumstances leads Egar into an ill-advised confrontation with the Empire's dominant religion. A warning from the Helmsmen sends Archeth on a mission into the wastelands to recover a valuable item, an item which comes with a dire warning. And a chance enco…

I just started book one Assasins Apprentice. I needed something to read after my last WOT re Read. I just read the first chapter and so far it hasn't grabbed me. I like the grandiose names of the Royalty though so that might be enough to hold me. Any thoughts on this series? I'm a fast reader so if it picks up I should finish it quickly.

Following my review of Patrick Rothfuss’ bestselling novel, Wise Man’s Fear, the author himself was kind enough to take time out and do an interview with us. Hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed making it. James: Last time you hung out with Dragonmount (before Name of the Wind was published) you said “maybe after I sell a million or so books, I'll be too fabulous to accept personal messages", and yet here you are. How’d you avoid the megalomaniacal urges of being a Fantasy God? Or are you just hiding them—in which case how does it feel to be a megalomaniacal fantasy god? Pat: You're obviously overestimating my success. I haven't sold anywhere cl…
