Hello Wheel of Time community, Three days ago, southern states in th USA were ravaged by tornados. My homestate, Alabama, took the most damage by far. I was born and raised in Tuscaloosa. While driving around the area I know so well, there are some places i dont recognise at all...completely raized beyond comprehension. I consider myself to be extremely lucky to be alive right now. I know a lot of you might be broke(like me),but if you can spare anything( money, clothes, food, etc..) please visit the American Red Cross website. Any help is very appreciated

  5. The Caribbean, 1718. Jack Chandagnac - Jack Shandy - is sailing to Haiti to reclaim some property when his ship is boarded by pirates. Shandy is recruited onto the pirate crew and becomes aware of a bizarre conspiracy that is unfolding between one of the passengers, Benjamin Hurwood, and the feared pirate Blackbeard, involving Hurwood's daughter Beth and the mythical Fountain of Youth. Shandy is soon drawn into a strange and magical quest set against the backdrop of the dying days of piracy in the Caribbean. 6. Vans (the shoe brand) has a competition once a year called Custom Culture where high schools paint designs on shoes. The top picks from each region win a $50 grand prize and the art class gets a free trip to new york for 3 days. In the northwest region vote for Franklin Pierce High School and you can help my art class out more than anyone ever has in our own backyard. The bond measure meant to approve a few million dollars for our school district didn't pass and now classes are getting cut and expenses for electives are dropping drastically! I'm graduated from Franklin Pierce now, but I still want to see my art class excel. Thanks for your vote guys! http:…

I have recently gotten back into playing and buying cards (a lot of cards), and I was wondering if anyone else here plays or has played MTG before. I'm really into collecting cards, especially older ones, and I love playing. I have 6 different decks currently: Aurochs, Merfolk, Slivers, Blue/White flyers, Red Beatdown, and Black Discard. If anyone wants to talk strategy, ask questions, or just BS about MTG, welcome!

When in doubt, go to the general forum before saying anything. To be honest, I don't recall when I was last here. I like to think I didn't stomp toes or anything, but who knows. I know it was YEARS (likely two) ago, and I've since not been in any communities. I decided to come back now that life is fairly settled. If you can count having hundreds of earthquakes in a short two months time as being settled right? I'm resolving to be less anti-social this year. Really. I will be. I also re-found my link and login here when I was going through my massive stores of saved email, hence I'm back here. So I want to start over. No! I'm not going back to the introducti…

For the first time ever, the Black Tower Social Group will be hosting a Wheel of Time themed Masquerade Ball. The competition will be starting within the next day or so and has the ability for 30 players to join in on the fun. In it, you will be assigned a WoT character role; each person will then act like the person they are assigned. The object for others will be to guess your character, and you must also try and guess theirs. The last one standing will be the winner, and the Honored Gent or Lady of the Ball! Visit the Black Tower SG or click here to learn more about it or sign up!

I've got books 1-9, all from three book box sets. I'm finishing up book 9 now, and was wondering if anyone knew when the fourth box set of books is supposed to come out? I asked at Borders and all they could tell me is that they don't have it yet but should in the future... So does anyone know when Box Set #4 is supposed to come out?

  14. The Aspect-Emperor, Anasurimbor Kellhus, is leading the Great Ordeal into the heart of the Ancient North. Hundreds of thousands of troops and thousands of sorcerers are heading for Golgotterath, the seat of the vile Consult, where they plan to destroy the Ark of the Heavens and obliterate the alien Inchoroi before they can resurrect the No-God and plunge Earwa into the Second Apocalypse. After the relatively painless opening leg of the march, the Ordeal now crosses through hundreds of miles of territory infested by the vile Sranc, whose numbers blanket the earth. For Sorweel, the young King of Sakarpas who has been sworn to Kellhus's cause but continues to harbou…

With Perrin naming his hammer Mah'alleinir I got to thinking about other weapons throughout all the fantasy novels I have read. It seems pretty common for our heros to name their sidearms. Remember Gandalf's Glamdring and Bilbo's Sting? How about Chance from the Malazan Book of the Fallen? The great Excalibur of Arthurian lore comes t mind as well. I know there are many others out there that I can't remember. So help me out. If you can think of a weapon used by a hero from fantasy lit that was given a name share it please. Also does anyone remember any other weapons from WoT that were named? I don't remember any. Is Mah'alleinir the only one?

  20. The Viking King Athun, a ruler without an heir, leads a raid on an Anglo-Saxon village, driven by a witch's prophecy that the child he will find there will become the son he has desired for so long. Instead he finds two children, twin boys, one of whom he takes as his own and the other he gifts to the witches. As the years pass, the boys become men, their lives leading in different directions but, inevitably, towards a convergence of interests. The witches have forged a new mystical rune, that of the wolfsangel, and the eternal contest of wills between Odin and Loki has been made manifest in a time of blood, war and slaughter. Wolfsangel is the sixth novel by this au…

What I'm looking for is someone who will read the forums every week and compile a round up of current topics. It doesn't need to be comprehensive. We just want highlights. Something like 2 threads of WoT discussion, 3-4 threads from the Social Groups, and 2 threads from the RP. Also, if Jason or I have shared anything interesting on the Dragonmount Twitter/Facebook, you can include those links. The links should be included with commentary, like "Here's a great thread about favorite books on General. What are yours?" or "Oh, it looks like we're discussing the Game of Thrones preview on the Entertainment forum. Did you see it yet?" You want to draw people in and invite them…

  24. 1 Melanie Rawn....Dragon Prince....The Star Scroll...Sunrunner's Fire......Stronghold....The Dragon Token....Skybowl........a 6 Book series with violence and twists akin to GRRM, a magic system similar in complexity to Jordan and a writing level of a very high order. Deeply focused on characterization. I love plot-oriented stories, but if you're more about character development and getting to love and feel like you know them, this is the way to go. 2 Piers Anthony...''Bio of a Space Tyrant''...a 5 Book Quintet. Anthony is better known for the silly, youth-oriented (yet endearing) Xanth series, but ''Bio'' is VERY Different. Gritty, Graphic, Great. Think Glen Cook's…

My apologies if this topic already exists, but the new cage match is being fought. Of particular note is Perrin's participation. He just beat Paul from Dune. Of even greater note, as she is losing, Vin is battling Zedd from Sword of Truth. Vote how you like but I hear the Mistborn verse has cookies, whereas the Sword of Truth verse merely has "truth".

I know it's outside the fantasy realm, but this has been one of my favorite genres (unless you count it as a subgenre) for a very long time. I was loaned Harry Turtledove's Agent of Byzantium when I was in high school and devoured it over the course of one weekend. As I grew older, I found other works, some of which I really enjoyed and others which I found to be garbage. William Gibson and Bruce Sterling's The Difference Engine blew my mind, and if they should ever return to that world I would snap up a sequel as soon as it came out. On the other hand, I'd recommend to anyone to stay away from Harry Harrison's Stars and Stripes trilogy, unless you want something unintent…

Hi everyone. I used to post around here, well...sporadically, and I ended up starting a review blog called Legends of Fantasy. Ok, basically I'm looking for advice/cure's/treatments for insomnia that don't include Sleep Clinic's (3 year waiting list when I last checked last week), drugs (my GP wont perscribe them, neither will any other until "certain tests have been completed") or drinking myself into a stupor. Now my bouts of not sleeping come and go, but in the last 6 months they've been getting worse and worse, at the time of writing this topic I have not slept more than 5 hours in the last 4 days when I'd normally have about 3 hours a night so if anyone has a suggestions for remidies/cures/techneques for getting to sleep that don't include those options stated above I'd be very greatful.…
