  2. I'd forgotten what a Masterpiece this thing by Peter Jackson was...Ok, Its been many years since I've read the books and a few things in the movie puzzled me: 1 How did Grima always be in two places at once? (with Saurman and Denethor) 2 Where did Saurman's army came from? (The 10, 000 that he sent to seige Helm's deep?) ... Grima had just been talking about how they needed thousands they didn't have and then Surman is like ''Oh, look out the window.'' 3 Why did Theoden seem almost hesitant to fight? ... In the book I vaguely remember him being a bit more agressive. 4 Can you all agree with me that Miranda Otto as Eowyn blew away Liv Tyler (Arwen) in t…

Ok guys, I'm looking for someone who can tell me a fantasy series/book that doesn't involve a group of friends leaving their home to go on a journey to stop a Dark Lord that you never actually see. (Besides Harry Potter)

  4. This isn't really a question I just didn't know what to put as the title. So let me start, I am 17 so mainly a teen, and i am kinda a beginner on WoT I am reading the fifth book now. As most of you know the WoT books are a good size, they were actually the first large books I have read. Now to my point, I was reading the fourth book "The Shadow Rising" about a month ago at school, and one kid happened to notice and was staring at me in horror. I looked up and gave a "what?" look and he said, "How can you read that! I can hardly read a 200 page book, what is that like 2000 pages! Reading is so boring!" I thought, that maybe he was just a random non-reader, but then …

Hi. :) I did a search on google for "nine-string bittern" because I remember RJ writing them into a few inns and streetcorners throughout the series. Anywho, upon realizing that they're probably fictional instruments, I only got one hit. Someone has put books 1-10, the prequel, and the World of the Wheel of Time up on their personal website. It seems like it wouldn't be legal to do that. Am I wrong? Redacted <--- Link. Click WoT on the left.

  7. If you had to pick just one (Among each of their many) - Here's Mine! Her Royal Majesty, The Queen Regent, Cesei Lannister...Uhhh, do the two words FAITH MILITANT ring a bell Your Majesty??? ... How in her right mind could she allow the New High Septon to gain so much Military Control - IN HER OWN CITY???!!! ... She is NOT as stupid and clueless as she oftenappeared in AFFC...In fact, her instincts are usually right on about the money...but...her METHODS were usually nothing short of disasterous...There had always been a CHECK to her reckless rashness, not to be redundant, which that probably was...Tywin, Ser Jaime, Littlefinger, The Spider...even, in ACOK, Tyrion, w…

In the land created by Robert Jordan, after The Last Battle, is a future. A future many were certain didn't exist. The Dragon Reborn has defeated the Dark One, but there are still those who were his servants to be rooted out, even twenty years later. Rand and company now have children of their own; Rand more than others, considering he has three wives. Some can wield the One Power, some cannot. All in all, will they be able to finish what their parents started? All are welcome in this roleplay. It is not required that you read the books to participate, but I do suggest you to look up information or PM on subjects you don't understand. Join today! The Future Is H…

Well, I asked the bosses, and they said it was ok to have an unofficial DM chat, provided everyone was clear that it was UNOFFICIAL, ie they had nothing to do with it. OK, sez I. So, if you are an IRC user, we're on the server bonzai.sorcery.net and the channel name is #dm-unofficial and if you don't use IRC, just click the link on my sig for a cheaty shortcut to the channel. And remember, this channel is nothing to do with the mods here, but I'm sure they'd be so happy to know that you were all playing nicely!

So it occurred to me this morning, that it would be sort of nice to say thank you to the DM staff in some way, shape or form. These guys work pretty hard, mostly behind the scenes, to keep DM rockin'. But we don't really take much time to appreciate them when they are doing things right. It's kind of like a chair. You don't notice when it works well, but if someone yanks it out from under you, you better believe you notice then. Anyways, I thought it might be fun if I collected some anonymous appreciations for the staff, which I will then pass onto them as a sort of non denominational mid-winter holiday/end of year present from all of us. So if you'd like to contribute…

  11. Well, sometimes, even now, a decade later almost, I still feel like kicking my old battered copy of A Storm of Swords around the block a few times in an enraged frenzy afer reading The Red Wedding. Some of the things that happened to Fitz in Hobb's series were pretty Brutal...geez, how much can one guy take??? :( Perrin getting home just in time to learn about his family really sorta suxcked. Man, i HATED Jamie getting his hand whacked...I mean, I got the whole Poetic Justice deal but it still stung... Chay watching 3 of his 4 sons die in their youth...thats probably pretty high on the ''Brutal Meter'' Eddard Stark - Enough said. Oh. Lastly, …

Some time ago, an idea popped up in my head. While most people here knows that Jason is the creator and owner of Dragonmount, there is not so much things known about him as a fan of tWoT. And since we have him to thank for having this place to hang out at, I figured I should try to change that. So I went to him with the idea that he should write up some kind of *Hello, I am Jason' thingy. He liked the reasoning behind my suggestion, but was not really comfortable about just writing a post all about himself, so he suggested we should do it as an interview instead. I brought in assistance in the shape of Luckers, and we started working. The hope was tha we would get this …

  14. I do not have the book with me. So this will be a paraphrase, but, I was reading ASOIAF Volume 1 A Game Of Thrones a couple of nights ago again for the first time in YEARS...and there is this one scene that...I dunno...I guess it just didn't strike me years ago originally...but I keep thinking about it the past couple days and it literally makes me Laugh soooo out Loud for reals. Catelyn became grateful. ''It seems Petyr, that I have misjudged you and you ARE still my sweet and kind friend of youth - I have much to thank you for.'' Littlefinger smiled. ''I must admit I am desperately sentimental my lady, but I have had to spent years at court convincing everyone…

  17. Hey Guys, I'll be heading to New York City for the weekend (for some intense shopping), and I thought I'd pick up a bunch of books that are on my reading list. Prices of books in Canada when compared to US are always higher, so I'm gonna take this opportunity to stack up on as many as I possibly can. Since I don't know any good bookstores, I was hoping the people here could suggest somewhere I can pick up SFF novels. As long as its within New York City I should be able to head there. Thanks for the help!

  18. My two main examples here would have to be Harry Porter and The Gunslinger Series (known by some as Dark Towers) I think they are two AMAZING series that gradually became a MESS and Ended...About as Badly as I could possibly have imagined. I do want to say that in all of Fantasy, maybe all of Fiction, there is - To Me - no more Beloved Bada$$ as Roland. But...book 7 still makes me want to regurgitate. Contrastly (is that a Word lol???), Glen Cook ended Black Company about as Magnificently as you can end an amazing long-running series........Heartbreaking, but Magnificent. What are Your picks, folks? Fish

  21. Thankxs For Playin!!! :) 1 Do you think Jamie Lannister will ever be a feasible swordsman with his left hand? - I do not. 2 Do you think things would have been that much different if Eddard had lived? - I WANT to think so, I want to think so so bad, for my dear Ned, but I don't. Ned was a soothing and calming influence on...Robert only. Robert was a moron and dead by the time Eddard was offed. I loved Ned and understand that his killing sparked the North's initiation into conflict, but it seems like SO Many things were in the pot being stirred already that his survival would have had little impact on how things seem to be playing out...that makes me …

  22. This thread is not about The Sword of Truth Books or Fantasy Books in general, or even about Terry Goodkind, or beating that horse that is long-dead on this Board, but, by necessity, because of HOW I got to the point I am at regarding the opinion I now hold about Rand's Belief (and the Belief of Rand's Disciple, Mr Goodkind) they do, by necessity, have a part in this thread, I am afraid. I have been arguing with a friend about the Sword of Truth Books and he admitted that the main turnoff for him seemed to be Goodkind's complete lack of originality and how he has pawned the writing style of Feist and others, the devices and plotlines of others (notably Hebert's Dun…

  23. Hi, so I am a lover of the fantasy genre, but one of the things that continues to bother me about them is how insistent the authors always are about using worn out, cliched, and prejudiced gender roles. They can be fun, but when there is so much variation elsewhere, why must they all return to the same tired ideas? Men love to "wench," women are controlling brats, girls will willingly have sex with the man they love who they barely know, guys are the only ones who can really do anything that is not a declared specialty of women. The Wheel of Time series definitely has this problem, I'm currently reading A Game of Thrones and it seems to be similar, the Lord of the Ring…

  24. Gabry lives a quiet life in the lighthouse overlooking the town of Vice. Many years ago her mother came out of the Forest of Hands and Teeth and made a new life here for herself and her young daughter. But a rash decision triggers unforeseen circumstances, and as Gabry's life disintegrates she realises she must flee her home just as her mother did long ago. The Dead-Tossed Waves is the follow-up to Carrie Ryan's enjoyable debut novel from last year, The Forest of Hands and Teeth, taking place more than a decade after the end of that book. It can be read satisfyingly either as a sequel or a stand-alone, although the backstory is more easily understood if you have read…

  25. This is not meant as a slam. When I was a lad, (many days ago) I read some of his posts and was confused by them. I was baffled. When I became older, I began to notice something and it is the essence of my question, which is: Has anyone else ever felt like the Random Capitalizations Throughout Sentences and Inane And Irrelevant Commentary upon subjects was a bit repetitive, predictable, pedantic, childish and even slightly off-putting after reading the same lines every few paragraphs post after post? That is my question - thank you for all input. chill

  26. The music theme for December in the Band of the Red Hand is "Christmas Songs and Music", as we take a break from our "Dream Band" season, which will return in the New Year. There are a host of activities surrounding this theme, which you can find highlighted below. NOMINATE YOUR FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS SONGS For the beginning of December, I am looking to you to nominate which are your favourite Christmas songs. You can nominate classics or hymns - anything you think is Christmasy. I am looking for between 8 and 16 songs (the more, the merrier), and those nominated will go into the "It's A Knockout" contest to decide what is DM's favourite Christmas Song. Nominate …

  28. Obviously, this is a bit Tongue-In-The-Ol-Cheek...but...i tell ya...the more time that passes and with combined with the amazing rate of writing by Mr Sanderson...Who Knows LOL??? If you want my DEAD SERIOUS Opinion...Ill just put it this way: If I have a complete and published ADWD by the end of 2011, I'll be Happy. Very Happy. Fish

  29. Started by Emez Vatsetek,

Here is my topic: I'm curious "how" people read: word for word, line by line, or what. ie. casual speed-reading for pleasure tips. (I'm posting this here because it applies to all books, not just WoT, and I want to avoid spoilers (Rand's twins, really? Maybe that thread was erroneous). So logicalIy some books do require different levels of attention, however I'm mostly talking about fantasy fiction in general. Although I know it's not just me in regards to WoT because I've read other posts like "oh man I just couldn't keep on reading it," or whatever.) Anyway I got discouraged years ago and stopped after the Shadow Rising - I honestly don't remember why, but I'v…
