A group of scientists conduct a cutting-edge experiment at the CERN facility on the French-Swiss border. At the precise moment the experiment begins, every single human being in the world blacks out. For two minutes they experience a lucid vision of the world as it will be in 2030, twenty-one years from now, before returning to the present. In those two minutes thousands of people were killed as planes crashed on take-off or landing, people fell down stairs and cars crashed. For the scientists, other questions are raised. One saw himself with a woman other than his fiance, and becomes intrigued by her identity. Another saw only blackness and discovers through others'…

A curious thought, but as I was now listening to a Mozart record with Requiem, and also his Betracht Dies Hertz and Laudate Dominum, it struck me, as it usually does when I hear it, that if I should get married (not that I can foresee it in the immediate future), that is what I would like to hear on the altar (or whatever it should be). Mozart's Laudate Dominum KV339 must be one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. The Latin lyrics are translated: O praise the Lord all ye nations: praise him, all ye people. For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the Lord endureth for ever. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to…

Lenk is a man who commands a company of adventurers. Well, 'commands' is perhaps the wrong word. His company consists of Gariath, a dragonman who has vowed to die in glorious battle and regards human as vermin; Katiara, a shictish archer who regards human as vermin; Denaos, a thief who regards himself as vermin and is quite happy about it; Dreadaeleon, a mage with an impressive ego; and Asper, a priestess and healer with confidence issues. They spend all of their time insulting and threatening to kill one another. Lenk's team-management skills are put to their test when his band is hired to escort an important churchman on a long ocean voyager. Attacks by pirates and…

The banner up top is asking me if i'm gay. I don't think so, but the algorithms they use for these custom ads is pretty advanced. So, who knows. Is DM doing alright financially? I didn't think they needed to resort to these types of ads. -Rin

Hi We have an XBox 360, and I wondered if anyone could recommend any games in the Fantasy genre or related type of game that I might enjoy? I have nearly finished Kameo, which I really like, and I just got Fable to play next. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Alright Dragonmount, anyone who has ever been a fan of Calvin and Hobbes hopefully remembers these fantastic pictures: So, I submit this question to you Dragonmount. How could one realistically make a F-14 flyable with a T-Rex? Do keep in mind weight and proportions.

I was just wondering if anyone knew whether Harriet has ever stated which Ajah she would be? I can't seem to find any interviews that ask this question and I'm starting to think that it may never have been asked.

Ok, I've been thinking about this for a while now and maybe because I'm a guy but I like AS less and less with every passing book. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE OLD AS, the ones that are not around now/yet or the once that are dead. It's just with every passing book AS look and sound and act more and more like....well wussies and morons. So, here is the list of AS I think actually really represent the AS: Cadsuane Moraine Verin (ALWAYS acted like a real AS should) Nameless AS (the one that appears to Aiel in Rand's Rhudian's visions. Don't ask why, just like the was she was described) And I'm afraid to say this but I think that this is it. If you have mor…

I end alot of my sentences with parentheses, (though i'm honestly not sure why) When you end a sentence with () does the period go inside or outside them? Is this correct, (if you know what I mean). or Is this correct, (if you know what I mean.) OH. I know I said one but I thought of another that always bugs me ... When you use the contraction for 'I am'' in mid-sentence, do you capitalize the 'i'? You know, i'm curious about it. or You know, I'm curious about it. Thanx! Fish

Tonight i spent much time catching up on old Blog Entries posted here at DM...I never really read them before, even in my years of Lurking...a couple things JUMPED out at me and one DISGUSTED me (if true!!!) ... If this got alot of attention when it came out forgive me for totally being in a cave somewhere. I am scared that it smells of Goodkind. In one of Mr Jordan's final Blogs...he writes of hearing that a ''fellow writer'' amde some disparaging comments comparing HIS (the fellow writers) heart to RJ's when hearing RJ's heart was in bad condidtion because of the Amblydioses. Surely no one on earth would have been that disgusting and classless. Wh…

I was very sad to hear the news that fantasy author Robert Holdstock passed away this morning from complications relating to an e.coli infection. He was only 61 years old. Robert was best-known for the Mythago Wood cycle of novels, starting with Mythago Wood and Lavondyss, as well as a number of stand-alones and the recent Merlin Codex series. His most recent novel, Avilion, was a continuation of the Mythago Wood cycle and he was in the early stages of planning and writing a sequel. I met Robert on several occasions, most recently at this year's Gemmell Awards and this year's Gollancz party, just two months ago, when we talked about The Dark Wheel, the novella he wro…

Growing up on an Antrim farm in the 1950s, young Michael Fay has an idyllic but hard-working life. However, he soon discovers that the woodland beyond the farm is a doorway to another place, a place of wonders and stark terrors which has a strange hold on his family and where he must travel to right an old wrong. A Different Kingdom was Paul Kearney's second novel, originally published in 1993 by Gollancz. It's a stand-alone, although it shares a thematic link with The Way to Babylon and Riding the Unicorn in that it features a person from our world who is drawn into a fantastical one. Those more familiar with Kearney from his later work, such as the excellent Monarc…

I read the first 3 books in this series some years ago, and thought the first one was quite well done, but 2 & 3 became progressively weaker. If you've read any of the books in this series, what did you think of them? And if you've read any beyond the first 3, how has the series progressed, IYO?

I am going to specifically request a major spoiler for the series. I've read the first 3 books now, and I am thoroughly enjoying myself, but I am concerned about the pacing of a major plot arc, and I need to ask about it. What I want to know is: Is there any point in the series where Rand actually does face down the Dark One (or at least Ishamael) and defeat him, leaving a sense of closure? I confess that I may not want to continue through all extant books if it turns out that it just drags on in a long, evenly woven tapestry of storyline that's never punctuated by some kind of climactic event. I'm not saying that I only like stories that are wrapped up ne…

France, 1633. Cardinal Richelieu is the most powerful and feared man in France, overseeing the affairs of the kingdom from Paris. His current priority is to prevent war from breaking out between France and Spain whilst France is militarily distracted in the Low Countries. To this end, at the request of the Spanish crown he reforms an elite band of men and women known as the Cardinal's Blades and gives them a delicate mission that will strengthen the ties between the two countries. For Captain La Fargue the restitution of the Blades is a great opportunity, but as he re-gathers his former soldiers it becomes clear that a very complicated game is afoot, designed to see Europ…

Julia Stretton is a researcher for the Ridpath projection, a machine that has generated a completely convincing simulation of what the world may look like in the early 22nd Century. In the projection, the south-west of England has broken away from the rest of the island of Britain due to an earthquake and has become something of a holiday resort, tolerated by a communist government in London for the sake of international relations. In this vision of the future Julia finds herself drawn to a man named David for reasons she doesn't quite understand, but in the real world the arrival of her ex-lover on the project's staff causes chaos for Julia and the project... A Drea…

Right so, I have a Dell XPS M1710 laptop, about 1,5-2 years old. Recently (last few months) I've been unable to write the @ symbol. (I copy+pasted it to get it in there btw). Now usually this isn't a huge problem as I can just copy paste like I just did. But last week I bought Dragon age origins for the computer. The game uses a system where you have to log into an account to download DLC's. Unfortunatley the only way to log in is to use your E-mail, and it's impossible to copy or paste when you are in the game. Which is why I wonder, does anyone have any idea how you can fix this? I've tried changing my language setting thing in the control panel from Norwegian (I l…

I cringe when I see The Belgariad or Mallorean these days. Did I read them as a child? Yes. Did I LOVE them as a child? Yes. But they were almost painfully G. Feist, one step-up from Eddings in my opinion. PG for Riftwar. Melanie Rawn R!!! (More people need to read her series about Rohan, Pol etc and we should talk about her more. Erikson - PG. Hobb - PG 13. Martin R - X. What do you guys think about this? Fish

I dont know if any of you heard, but on halloween night a Seatte PD officer was shot and killed during a trafic stop by a drive by shooter who had apparently followed him to the trafic stop. Toda, following a motorcade that is made up of 1500 police officers from all over the nation, a memorial is being held for him at Key Arena in Seattle to allow his brother's and sister's in arms to say good bye and allow them offer their condolances to the family. This does not effect anyone, but I still feel that when you read this, offer a moment of scilence for this fallen hero, for his sacrifice in the line of duty echoes through state of Washington, and beyond it seems.…
