  3. It is the year 2010 and the Anglo-Hispanic Unity is the greatest force on Earth. Ruled over by Her Divine Majesty Gloriana, Queen Elizabeth XXX, the Unity is defended by a mighty army and navy and also by the forces of the Magickal Arte, rediscovered five centuries ago by Leonardo of Vinci. Technology has stagnated, but the Arte has flourished under the control of the Church. Sir Rupert Triumff, lately returned from a mission of discovery in which he discovered a land named Australia, is a noted adventurer and consumer of alcohol. Curiously reluctant to make a formal report to the Queen about his newly-discovered continent, Triumff is soon drawn into an attempt to th…

  9. Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone knew where I can get a complete, hardcover collection of the Wheel of Time (from the Eye of the World to the Knife of Dreams, including New Spring). I'm from the Philippines and the recent typhoon that tore apart our nation's capital flooded my home and ruined my entire Wheel of Time hardcover and paperback collection (in addition to almost every book in the much beloved library I've assembled over the last 20 years). I would buy it from Amazon, but I have little money for any book purchases at the moment and Amazon's shipping charges have become somewhat prohibitive given my present circumstances. E-bay is not an option for me at…

Would anyone be interested in joining a Dragonmount group on Ravelry? TarValon.net have one already, but there's room for two, I think. Anyone? If a few people are interested, I'll set one up. If there already is one, link me up!!

  11. Started by Werthead,

The brilliant but unambitious Quentin Coldwater is uncertain what to do with his life when he is offered a highly unusual opportunity: to study real, honest-to-gosh magic at Brakebills, a college devoted to the magical arts. He seizes the opportunity with both hands, and finds himself thrust into a strange new life that is by turns rewarding and terrifying... The Magicians has picked up a fair amount of applause from various bloggers, reviewers and authors this year, and has been cited as an 'antidote' to Harry Potter. The comparison is apt, since it features a young man going to a magical school, but at the same time also misleading. Quentin is 17 when the story beg…

Hey everyone, just wanted to give you a heads up that you can now set custom titles via your profile page (the entry box should be right above the sig entry box). It'll show up right above the line that says "Dragonmount Member" above your avatar and below your screen name. So if you want to let people know which Org or Div you're in, who you think killed Asmodean, or make up a title for yourself, have fun with it. Just remember, like your sig and personal text, DM's content rules still apply (PG-13, no personal attacks, no links to inappropriate sites, etc.) -The Admins

  14. Just an FYI - PC Hodgell (a brilliant writer, author of the Kencyrath series) has agreed to do a Q&A with us starting on October 5. People are constantly asking "what series should I read next" - well, now would be a great time to pick up God Stalk (the first book in the series) or The God Stalker Chronicles (an omnibus of the first two books), and then swing by the Illuminators for the Q&A.

I know that Amodean's killer is a huge debate around here. But I've not seen any recent banter about it. It's time to stoke the coals. We may soon find out who it was, so I'd like to have on record who says who... Those who have solid theories (especially with evidence to back them up) please state your claim. Who Killed Asmodean?

From Amazon: Quentin Coldwater, a Brooklyn high school student devoted to a children's series set in the Narnia-like world of Fillory, is leading an aimless existence until he's tapped to enter a mysterious portal that leads to Brakebills College, an exclusive academy where he's taught magic. Coldwater, whose special gifts enable him to skip grades, finds his family's world mundane and domestic when he returns home for vacation. He loses his innocence after a prank unintentionally allows a powerful evil force known only as the Beast to enter the college and wreak havoc. Eventually, Coldwater's powers are put to the test when he learns that Fillory is a real plac…

  22. The Wheel of Time is one of the most extraordinary works of fantasy ever published - a series that has topped the international bestseller lists and is now appearing in fourteen languages. This essential companion to The Wheel of Time is for everyone interested in the history and the background of this incredible series - never-before-told legends, previously unknown peoples and lands, exotic beasts and portents of what may come to pass. This comprehensive guide is indispensible to any fan of Robert Jordan. The World of Robert Jordan's" Wheel of Time" book is good to read... thanks

  23. I've been thinking of this subject for awhile ever since trakand01 started the thread on different points of view (so if you don't like this thread, BLAME HER!! ;D :D ;D) but your sign-on or name, why did you pick it and does it have any meaning to you? 42Bonzo88, is two parts. Bonzo is the nickname of the drummer (John Bonham) from Led Zeppelin. I've always liked the name. 42, and 88, come from two sports heroes of my youth. 42 was the center of my high school basketball team where my Dad coached. He was one of the coolest players and I was 8 when he played. 88 was a receiver on the football team and he was my age. He was one of the popular kids, but always was…

This thread is for those of you bitter that you aren't at DragonCon with us this weekend. I'll be sure to drop by every so often to update you as to how things are going and what news gets passed along to us. You *did* know about the news, right? There are some rather heavy announcements being made by Tor this weekend. And no, I can't tell you a single thing about them. Feel free to speculate wildly though. Anyways, I'll stop by to post pictures and news, etc. I'll point others here as well, so hopefully this will be a nice, active thread. If you have no idea what this "DragonCon" thing is all about, here's the official website. http://www.dragoncon.org/…
