After a nervewrecking couple of days, the Hamster is off his strike and back to running. There has been sunflower seeds galore and the serpent has promised only to bite his own tail.* Happy times! *If you have no idea what i am talking about, see this post in the temporary forums: http://www.ageoflegends.net/WhiteTower/tower/blue/viewtopic.php?t=9&sid=23718f8b8d559a6dd757a19de404cdfb

Just noticed that the member count for the new boards is coming up for a thousand soon. My question is ... where are you all?? It seems that most boards have their core of regulars and odd people passing by. I am sure I have not even met half of you. So here is a poll to locate everyone!! Some of the boards had to be grouped together as the poll has a limit on how many lines you can enter. I tried to have what I think are likely the most popular choices in seperate lines. Apologies to those that would have wanted their own line. Neither does the poll allow for multiple answers as I am sure like me you will have more than one favourite. So vote for the one…

I was looking over a couple of the "most powerful characters" polls on the board and it got me to thinking about some of my favorite characters in the books that I have read. I realized that alot of them were not the main characters in the books at all, but more often, the more colorful "sidekicks". So the question is: Who are your favorite supporting characters in fanatsy(outside of the Wheel of Time)? Just a few of mine by author but in no particular order: Eddings: Prince Kheldar of Drasnia aka Silk Beldin the Sorcerer Kurik and Talen Weis and Hickman: Dalamar the Dark Elf (Raistlin's apprentice) Tasslehoff Burrfoot Fizban (yes, I know he's a god, …

I saw a guy at Taco Bell yesterday that had a shirt and on the back it said: When I get a little money I buy books; and if any is left I buy food and clothes. Erasmus I want one!!!! He also said ... although it wasn't on the shirt but would still be cool on one: Your library is your paradise.

Hi there I don't know if there's somewhere else to post questions like this and if there is just let me know. I know R.J. has used real world cultures and names as inspiration for his books and I was wondering if anyone had any idea where he got Aes Sedai from, I was recently on a website about Celtic deities and such and came across what we now call Fae or Faeries were once considered Tuatha De Danann or Aes Sidhe which means "people of the Sidhe" the Tuatha'an could also have been derived from that formal name the Celts used. There could already be an explanation for where R.J. got his inspiration for Aes Sedai and the Tinkers but when I saw it I couldn't believe the si…

I need to find some books to read over the summer. Anybody got any favorites they would want to share?

I'm moving to Pfluggerville, Texas (and yes I have no idea how to spell it) pretty soon and evidently it's the music capitol of somethin-or-other. I was wondering if there were any good raves or somethin out there. Also I've only past through Texas so I have no idea but what's a good bookstore? Like out here in Tucson we have a borders, a bookman's (for good used books), and a Barnes & Noble (for expensive books, I never go there costs way too much). I'm hopin to find a place to "kick-it" and a place to "get-it-to-read-it". Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Is Anyone else aware of the problems Read Eagle Entertainment is having? I paid a single 40.00 USD subscription for all the issues about 8 business days ago, and I still haven't received the first issue. I sent this inquiry e-mail: In return, I get this: The problem is that I haven't received any issues... and I'm out 40.00 USDs. What is going on?

Well, since we've got this thing started with Martin, I thought there may be some (read: me) who may be interested in discussing some Hobb action up in here too. Let's see... Things we could discuss... -The Wit vs the Skill - compare/contrast? -Fitz's charm as a character - The thing that I like best about FitzChivalry is how human he is. The guy makes mistakes. Often. Like, real often. But you can't help but love him anyway. He tries hard, you gotta give 'im that. -Here's a good one: Is the Fool a man or a woman? I suspect she's a woman, but I'd like to hear anyone's thoughts on the matter. That should be good to start, and please, anyone b…

When I first read this story sent to me by Baron Brian, my first confused reaction was: So why do they get all the credit? For those of you who are too lazy to click the link, I'll sum up: Essentially, as Hurricane Isabel swept into Arlington, the two soldiers who guard The Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier were offered something that had never been given before - permission to abandon their posts. They refused. The Tomb had been guarded continually since 1930, and they weren't about to break that chain. They stayed on guard while the hurricane roared through, risking their own lives, and came out all right. Many people pointed to this as the pinnacle of dedication.…

What was your favourite moment in the WoT series? What captured everything so perfectly, just stood out for you as the pinnacle moment so far- that just reassured you were a WoT-junkie for life? Lan and the Golden Crane? Rand cleansing Saidin? Mat.. just pick somewhere, it's bound to be good. My personal favourite moment has to be: With Perrin, after the GIGANTIC battle at the Two Rivers, after destroying thousands of Trollocs, having his wife come in with the cavalry, after he took out a Mydraal with a broken leg, dissed some Whitecloaks- Perrin riding back to the Winespring Inn with Faile in his arms, while the Two Rivers folk are shouting his name,…

Well, as most of you know, I've been gone for a couple weeks to my grandmas funeral in Europe. On the way back, I saw something I hadn't seen before. We were staying in a hotel in Copenhagen, I got out of the elevator, and I saw a lady in her bras and a thin skirt getting onto another elvator, and I started thinking "is she celebrating the feast of lights or something?". A little later, my older bro said he had seen her dressing in the hall. That was something that in all my travels (my parents are missionaries, and we fly quite a bit) I had never seen before. Just a little experience I wanted to share with you.

So, who watched it? I really love this bit of European tradition. Eventhough the songs are silly, and often bad, I still like the idea. It's a shame that they lifted the language restriction and these days most contestants sing in English... But then, this year there were many good songs sung in the original language as well! Who were your favourites? Which were just awful? :D I must say, I was VERY surprised we won.

I hate running stupid banner ads like this at DM. The "Shoot the Monkey", "Shoot the Duck", "Shoot the Hostage"..... What's DM? A banner site for the NRA. (Not even on a cold day in hell for that one) Anyway, sorry for the crappy banners. I'm working with the ad agerncy to provide better ones. Jason

A while back, about a year ago actually, I heard about this nifty little program called TinySpell. It's a Windows program that runs in your system try as a real-time spell checker for any program you're typing in. It comes in really handy for me on places like here, as long as I remember to turn it on. Anyway, I know it helps keep me from looking as stupid as I could, and thought I'd pass it on to anyone else that might find it useful. Especially the RP people out there who tend to make huge posts. It's always easy for a spelling mistake to slip in when you're writing a couple hundred words at a time. :D Hopefully nobody thinks this is directed at them. I'm …

Don't even try looking for it on KMart.com. They removed it from the listing after it sold out. They've already admitted it was a price error and are most likely going to refund the money to the people who bought it. My brother bought 5. The computer store it worked for bought 35.

Has anyone ever read Permanence by Karl Schroeder? This is an awesome book for more reasons than one. For one, this guy is incredibly informed about the cosmos, you can tell he did his research. Two, his idea of humanity's goal in life is greate. Three, it's a relatively simple story line but a complex righting style. I obviously like the book, in fact I almost stayed home from work so I could read it; I was just wondering if anyone else has read it.
