there was none to be seen. surely some were giving pursuit but the pace the Aes Sedai set would put the Whitecloaks back a day at most, and at least half a day. They had some breathing space.

Waiting calmly for Myrrhi to rejoin them the group went on at a leisurely pace, eventually taking a little used side road off of the main. Even then they traveled several miles on the winding road before pulling off and setting up a camp. Wearily Ialsa got off her horse, relieved herself of her scabbard and sat down near a large oak tree. She was spent.  Emelda helped Minnie with Bartha, getting the woman settled and tending to the small bump on her head afforded her by a Whitecloak.

"need a hand?" Ialsa asked Myrrhi as she tended the horses

"Thanks," Myrrhi said with a grin. "I never know where to begin with these beasts, especially the ones I don't know."

The Green didn't have a long experience with horses. Back in Andor, she had been a city girl. She had never traveled otherwise than on foot. As a Novice, things hadn't improved. As it was customary, she had spent most of her time on the Tower grounds. She had had the opportunity to go to the city of Tar Valon itself a couple of times but only to accompany Sisters who wanted help to carry their purchases.

The Green Ajah who had discovered in her a potential recruit had insisted on giving her riding lessons back when she had been an Accepted, but it had not been enough for her to feel completely at ease even when mounting the most gentle mare.

As she petted one of the animals, she told Ialsa that she had never really owned a horse that she could call hers. The mare she was now using was one she had bought out of necessity. It didn't feel like a friend nor a companion. And the fact that she knew she would have to abandon it if things would get too serious didn't help to create any kind of attachment.

She thanked the other woman for her help once they were done with the horses. "What do you think about setting wards around the camp? I think that we should organize some kind of watch for tonight."

"perhaps on top of your sword training we should add horse lessons as well" Ialsa had told Myrrhi with a smile. "would not want you falling into Emelda's category of horsemanship" she teased as they got the last horse secured.

looking around their small camp Ialsa could only agree that a ward was wise, though she herself was too tired to do it. "how are you with wards?" she asked the young Green.

  • 2 weeks later...

Myrrhi blushed as she heard her companion's proposal. "Horse lessons?" she repeated. Her ego screamed that she should brush off the offer. She was Aes Sedai, she shouldn't have to show how ignorant she was.

But it would be just like the sword training, she told herself. ... even if the sword training is a bit different... she admitted. I really need to be able to protect myself, even without the One Power.... as I really need to be an efficient rider ....

"That would be a great idea,' she said at last. "If we have enough time."

She didn't know what would happen after they would reach Tar Valon. She didn't even know whether or not she should stick that long with to little group. With all this chaos around them, maybe it would be better for her to travel on her own and to go forward in her quest of improving her skills in preparation of the last battle? There were so many combat weaves and techniques that she needed to practice or to discover. And so far, her companions hadn't offered her much in this area, ... except for the sword training... and these mysterious weaves that Ialsa had summoned with the White Cloaks. They had raised her curiosity.

Wards were easy to channel. Myrrhi flicked her wrist as she summoned a first protection for their camp. It was based on Air Weaves and quite efficient even if she had to admit she found it less interesting than the traps made out of  Spirit that she had favoured when she had been traveling on her own.

"It's not my area of expertise, but I know a couple of useful things," she explained with a grin.

Ialsa nodded. They talked for a while and as soon as they agreed on the best way to protect their camp, they each went their way. They didn't need many wards but the recent events and set them on edge.

"So we are completely divided?" Ialsa asked Emelda as they sat around the campfire. The night had proven quiet enough and they felt secure enough to speak and even relax and restore some energy. Their meal was small but not many of them felt too hungry in the first place so it didn't matter much.

"Very nearly" Emelda nodded "there could be no consensus reached in choosing someone to raise to the Seat. Things started fracturing, Ajahs started working politics between eachother jostling for positions and favors in hopes of gaining the seat. Light you'd thing they were playing the great game." she shook her head. "it all boiled over as predicted and ..." she paused still disgusted with the memory of it "Sisters at eachother's throats. Actually....actually fighting eachother within the Tower. The TOWER of all places Ialsa"

"it was not pretty" Minnie chimed in soberly. She had woken an hour or two ago and seemed as skittish as ever

"you were there?" Ialsa asked the Yellow sister who gave a simple nod in reply but offered no more than that. Ialsa knew better than to pry just yet. It haunted the young yellow clearly. and she was not yet ready to confront it.

"needless to say it ended in a stalemate. we were all trained the same way, no one could best the other. no one ajah came out on top. the Green were the first to retreat" Emelda went on

"retreat?" Bartha scoffed "more like tactical repositioning, flaming green" she muttered but then recalled Myrrhi and gave a sheepish look and a small apology

"regardless" Emelda gave Bartha a look for the interruption and comment "The greens headed east and settled in a large territory bordering the Spine. which made the Red suspicious and not to be out maneuvered they all set out and gathered up their own space, then the blues" she motioned with her hand to how it all snowballed. "the yellows became dispersed"

"we felt the need to keep to our core" Minnie corrected "we couldnt heal the tower but we could try and heal the small wounds"

"noble" Ialsa gave her a nod for that thought.

"the whites and grey's keep trying to mitigate and broker peace but to little avail. especially since they keep to the tower mostly." Emelda explained.

"how is it that you know none of this?" Bartha had to asked Ialsa as she had been stewing on it the entire conversation.

"i left nearly a decade ago. to explore the lands in the west" Ialsa explained, but added "beyond the sea" when she saw the confusion on the blue's face. "I actually returned to specifically warn the Amrylin and the Tower, though it looks as if it'll need to be rebuilt first" she sighed.

  • 2 weeks later...

ooc:sorry, completely forgot about checking this thread :(

Myrrhi listened to her fellow Aes Sedai as they explained Ialsa everything that had happened since she had "left" the White Tower.

At first, the thought of an Aes Sedai leaving the Tower without affiliating herself to an Ajah had seemed to be a heresy. Hadn't the woman a purpose in her life? Hadn't she an idea of how she wanted to intervene during the last battle? But, with time, Myrrhi had understood that she, herself, had done something very similar. Even if she had chosen the Greens, she was now on her own, doing whatever she wanted. She was not working for her Ajah anymore and hoped that things could stay that way for as long as it was possible to.

The young woman didn't have an opinion the Green tactics. No one had ever asked her what she thought of them, but deep down she had to admit that it made sense.

"So,' she said at last. "This is the reason why we have to be cautious if we want to get near the Tower.

The use of the word "we" surprised herself. So far, she had been tagging along because she had no better idea of where to go. Did this mean that she wanted to go to Tar Valon with the others?

Ialsa hummed quietly in thought as she processed it all, sorting out for herself not so much what happened but rather how to go about putting enough back together in order to protect the Aes Sedai from the oncoming Seanchan problem. what good would the Aes Sedai do in the final battle if they were all affixed to collars and bent to the whim of a controller? after a while it looked as if Ialsa was debating with herself on what to say next, looking from one of her companions to another as if reading them, choosing whether to trust them.

she took a breath and poked the fire a bit. she appreciated and noted the terminology Myrrhi used but if she were to get them all, she needed to make sure they knew what was at stake. she wanted Myrrhi to understand at the very least. there was much about the young woman that reminded Ialsa of herself before she set off from the Tower. she also saw great potential in the woman, something she had already decided she would do her best to foster. but that also meant arming her with knowledge so mistakes would not be repeated. so Ialsa set in to telling the group about what she had found across the waters.

she told them of the Seanchan, their society and in particular their views of Aes Sedai and the domane. relaying all she could about the collars that were used, the practices of breaking a woman down, the abuse, what some women were reduced to. all the while she was very careful to refrain from saying whether or not she was ever subjected to a collar. that was a tale she was not personally ready to tell. perhaps in private but not to the group. nor did she see immediately how it such knowledge would help.

"they are preparing a journey across the waters" Ialsa told the small group "of that i know for certain. and when they do reach our shores, their first goal will be to corral and subjugate every woman that can channel. force them into collars and use them to dominate the land. i have seen what the process does, and i will not allow my Sisters to fall prey to it. i will not!" she had to pause a moment to calm herself down. "broken apart as we are, ajah against ajah, no Amyrlin to unify, to guide" she shook her head "we will be lambs to the Seanchan slaughter."

Myrrhi closed her mouth. She had just noticed that she had been staring at Ialsa with her mouth wide open. These Seanchan looked liked characters from fairy tales. She imagined herself as a collared prisoner and shivered.

"We are doomed", she said.

As she chewed her lower lip, she looked around. it was not like their little group could do anything to prevent such an invasion.

Still something prevented her from running. She wanted to fight, but how? she asked herself.

"What was your plan?" She turned towards Ialsa. "The White Tower is no more... and nothing will make it whole again."

The other Sisters had stayed silent so far. The young Green wondered what they were thinking about, especially Emelda. Even if she was deep in her thoughts, she didn't look as surprised as the others. It made Myrrhi wonder whether or not she had known about the Seanchan all along.

Emelda did indeed know, Ialsa had spoken with her several times since their re-meeting. not only because she was an old friend but because she knew that the lands beyond the ocean were something Emelda had always been fascinated with and had studied while at the Tower. she had only heard or read of rumors before getting confirmations and more in depth descriptions from Ialsa. the scope of it all had surprised her but not in the same way it had the other Sisters. for Emelda it was something to dissect.

which was exactly what Ialsa hoped her old friend would do. she counted on it. and so she left Emelda to her thoughts, let that brain work something out.

"I would not say 'nothing'" Minnie finally chimed in as it seemed her head snapped out of its shock "there are very few things that cannot be mended. the tower is not one of them." she glanced between all who sat around the campfire and with a gentle nod from Ialsa was encouraged to continue. "the rifts between the ajahs are a wound to be healed." she spoke in terms best suited to her "the core of the problem came when some ajah's felt slighted when it came to naming a new Amyrlin. they felt as though there was too much politics involved, closed door meetings"

"rightfully so" bartha commented recalling back to it all

"i do not believe that any Sister wants to leave the Tower in the shape it is. deep down there must be a majority or at least enough willing to see things mended. i know my fellow Yellows feel that way. and the Gray's, Whites and Browns have been trying to mend it since the battle ended." Minnie told Ialsa getting a nod from Emelda.

"and the Ajah heads?" Ialsa asked.

"with that mess at the manor" Bartha hooked a thumb back the way they had come "i do not believe any Blue is in a position to truly fight much." she glanced a hazardous eye to Myrrhi, unsure about mentioning and weakness within her Ajah in front of a Green.

"and the Green?" Ialsa asked Myrrhi. "where do they stand?"

  • 3 months later...

Hearing Minnie's words, Myrrhi rolled her eyes. The Tower was broken. Only a miracle could mend it. Still, she decided to stay silent. The young Green didn't want to crush the other Aes Sedai's dreams. When Bartha joined in, it became harder for her to keep her mouth shut. That one behaved as if she knew every little Tower secret. Myrrhi would have loved to punch her in the face. She picture the scene then was pulled out of her reverie by Ialsa.

"and the Green?" the woman had asked. "Where do they stand?"

Myrrhi almost choked on her saliva. She could try to spin a half truth and give the impression that she knew what she was talking about. She was not sure she wanted to play that game though. What if one of the Aes Sedai here had eyes and ears spying on her "Sisters"? They would know that she was not on the best of terms with her Seniors.

"It is not my place to discuss the Green's position," she quickly replied. As she answered, she brushed the skirts of her dress. "But," she said raising her face, hate in her eyes "I am not sure the Blues wanted to be of help when they decided to kidnap me ..."

Not wanting to start a debate about who was in her good rights, she didn't wait for anyone to reply. She curtsied before leaving the little group. The last thing she wanted was to put an end to the freedom she was currently enjoying.

Bartha looked nearly dumbstruck at that revelation. sitting there by the camp mouth agape.

"broken" Emelda told Iasla as if this were a prime example. it was loud enough for Bartha to hear clearly, and she slowly closed her mouth. the term 'broken' hit her harder than the revelation of Myrrhi's kidnapping. any Aes Sedai that was fine with a broken Tower was by far in the minority. and for Bartha it was a state that she personally loathed to see. for a while during the conversation her hopes had swelled in the idea of mending it. of restoration. but then, now, to see how deep some wounds have run.

she shook her head to herself and got up. and followed where Myrrhi had gone. "Myrrhi" the Blue called hurrying to catch up

- "Leave me alone", Myrrhi replied not even turning to look at the woman who had followed her. Her voice sounded a bit like Bartha's but she didn't care. She didn't want to talk, she didn't want to stop. The only thing she wanted was a place to sit down , a bottle of strong booze and most of all some time on her own.

- "Myrrhi, please!" More pleading, it angered the young Green.

- "Leave me alone!" She repeated. This time, however, she turned and, as she did so, she unleashed a Weave of Air. The wave she had created was not strong enough to touch the Blue Aes Sedai. The Oath Myrrhi had taken prevented her of using the One Power to harm a fellow Sister just to make a point.

The Blue made a step back, shaking her head as if she couldn't believe what had just happened.

- "Please, I didn't know..."

- "Right", Myrrhi rolled her eyes. Slowly the words sank in. The Oaths... they would make it impossible for Bartha to lie. Unless she was a Sister of the Black Ajah of course...

- "Let me explain", the Blue tried once more. She peacefully extended her hands right in front of her, in a way to show that she wasn't a menace. "Hear me, please."

Myrrhi didn't move nor turned, something inside her wanted to hear the other woman. But something else pushed her to run away before she'd get entangled in that Blue's web. The Blue Ajah was known to love politics, to manipulate kings and queens. The Green was just a newly raised girl and she didn't know whether or not she could trust herself to see through another Aes Sedai deception.

when Myrrhi didn't continue forward Bartha exhale in small relief. "i didn't know" she reiterated sincerely. "i'm not exactly privvy to what all my ajah does. but...but i never thought they'd stoop to such...things." she couldnt even bring herself to say it. it was hard to believe, it was heart breaking to believe. "we all want to believe the best of the sisters in our ajah's. that we are better than the others, that we're justified in our part in the breaking of the Tower. but if...if we're kidnapping other aes sedai, then...then i'm not sure much hope can be had in what remains. in holding onto the system that was."

she let out a heavy breath, not sure if she was making a point, or making headway with the young woman or if she herself knew what she was attempting.

"i dont know what my ajah did. i dont know what Ialsa plans. i'm not sure where exactly i stand." she confessed "but perhaps, change begins with us." she extended her hand to Myrrhi. "i cant make up for whats happened to you. but i can promise i'm willing to try and fix things"

Myrrhi looked at Bartha's extended hand. Shaking it would mean that she was ready to make a step towards peace, that she was ready to believe that some Aes Sedai wanted to things to change, to unite again like in the old days. Nothing had pushed the Blue to come after her. Bartha had chosen to make a first step to mend the gap between them.

The young Green didn't want to show herself as easy to manipulate. These few words from the Blue were a first step, but it was definitely not enough for Myrrhi to treat her companion as a friend.

"All right," she said. "I am ready to believe you. At least to believe that you didn't know about the kidnapping. .. and that you don't know where you stand."

Keeping her arms crossed, the Green went on. "This doesn't mean that I trust you. Now, if you will excuse me..."

Bartha opened her mouth as if to insist about her good intentions, but before she had the time to say anything Myrrhi turned and left.

It was only when she found herself out of sight of the other Aes Sedai that she decide to sit down. She needed to think.

Myrrhi was left alone for a good while, it coming close to dawn before any footsteps could be heard coming her direction. "Myrrhi." Ialsa whispered so as not to startle the young woman, unsure if she was asleep or not. resting a hand on her shoulder "Myrrhi?"

Myrrhi opened her eyes. Slowly. She felt groggy and her head hurt like hell.

-"Wha...", She had to abandon the idea of nursing her brow, as she noticed that her hands were tied up in her back. "What the hell?"

She had been kidnapped... again. At least that was what she guessed from the quick look she had given to her surroundings and to herself.

The darkness around her made it impossible for her to know where she was. The thick pieces of fabric that hung here and there could have been part of a tent, but somehow she didn't feel like she was in a temporary shelter. She couldn't hear the wind, nor the songs of birds. The usual sounds of nature. It made her panic.

She tried to stand, but fell almost immediately. Her feet were shackled and - even worse - a cord bound her neck to a post, preventing her to move far from the center of the room. The young Green pulled at it to see how far she could go without strangling herself. But no matter how strongly she pulled she never reached anything useful.

Her only option was the One Power. She closed her eyes and focused, hoping to reach it. Calmly at first but it didn't work. A thick wall seemed to block her path to channeling. C'mon, she told herself. Trying over and over again. Sweat covering her forehead she pushed herself harder, mentally banging against that ominous wall that separated her from Saidar ... Thirty long minutes passed wielding no results.

- BARTHA! Myrrhi yelled. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME?

"Myrrhi" Ialsa said firmer, giving the young woman's shoulder more of a shove, but still got not response.

"She still not up?" Emelda asked coming up behind her old friend, getting her first good look at the young Green. "Oh dear" she knelt in front of Myrrhi and lifted her chin with her finger to get a better look at her. "She won't wake?"

"no." Iasla confirmed, her eyes scanning the area for any signs of who could be responsible or any clues as to the cause.

-----------------

"oh it does seem she is as feisty as reported." a lucous woman's voice came from somewhere in the shadows to Myrrhi's left.

Myrrhi turned her head so fast that she almost injured her neck muscles.

"W..Who are you?" She stuttered, surprised. The voice did belong to a woman, but definitely not to Bartha.

"Let me go!" The young Green went on, fighting against her bonds.

Her captor laughed as she made a step towards Myrrhi.

What the shadows didn't cover was nicely hidden by her long dark brown cloak. Seeing how it fell on her shoulders one could only imagine that she wasn't tall and pretty slim. Everything else was a mystery.

Myrrhi opened her mouth, she didn't know yet whether it was to protest or ask another question. She wanted out, she wanted to make sense of what had happened before she was brought in this strange prison, and most of all she wanted to  hit someone.

"There, there," the woman started. She made another step, but this one was accompanied by a flash of pain that sent the Green flying backwards.

A channeler... The thought crossed Myrrhi's mind before another blow hit her.

The next shot of pain reeled Myrrhi back until the length of her chain snapped tight and brought her to an abrupt and painful halt. The woman not moving a step further. She merely stood, hooded head half cocked and seemed to appraise the young Green for a moment or two. "How many are in your company?" she asked somewhat patiently.

--------------

Every once in a while Myrrhi would seem to flinch as if in pain, and neither Emelda nor Ialsa knew why. Neither did they know how to wake her. "Something is very wrong" Ialsa commented to her old friend. "Get Bartha and Minnie." she urged the heftier woman who took off faster than her body would make one think capable.

"Tel'aran'rhiod" Bartha commented a little while later, after Minnie came to a loss in her diagnosis. Ialsa's attention snapped to the Blue with it's utterance.

"We need to get her out. now."

"For the record. This is not my fault." Bartha commented as she pulled a pin from her shawl and stuck Myrrhi in a particularly sensitive spot

  • 2 weeks later...

"I am not telling you anything." Another shot of pain.

"How many?" The woman asked again.

The young Green stayed silent, readying herself for a long interrogation. She took in the room she was in one more time. It was indeed important for her to know more about who was the stranger. She needed to know whether or not she could lie, whether or not she had chances to escape.

"I asked you a question." Pain came back, stronger this time. Myrrhi almost emptied her stomach.

"Who said I have a company?"

As she fought to sit back, her eyes passed from the sheets of fabric hanging from the ceiling to the strange pieces of furniture surrounding her then to a  small piece of cloth that looked so much like a tiny animal ... with its little legs folded right under it and its tail curling in two different places. The more Myrrhi looked at it, the more the shape of the cloth seemed to change.

"Don't defy me, I'll get what I want one way or another...."

The air around the cloth rippled and the young Green pushed all her thoughts towards it wanting it to turn into a mouse, and it did. This can't be ... possible...

Myrrhi felt an invisible fist tightening around her throat as she realized where she was. The world of dreams. It must be.... That would explain why I don't remember arriving here, why this place looks so strange...

She had never really paid attention to her classes about Tel'aran'rhiod. She remembered the basics but didn't know whether or not she'd be able to defeat any kind of opponent with her willpower as only tool. The best chance for her to get away from this nightmare would be to have someone waking her up in the real world.

She didn't manage to think more about the topic, the fist choking her making it impossible for her to focus on anything else than the fighting at hand.

***

"OUCH!" Myrrhi woke up.

She looked around, at the faces of the women surrounding her, relieved to see that she wasn't in that strange place with that even stranger woman anymore.

"You!" she growled, as her eyes stopped on Bartha.

The Blue Aes Sedai was still holding the pin she had used to wake up Myrrhi. " This was not my fault!" she immediately protested shaking her hands in front of her to emphasize her words. "I only helped to wake you." The others nodded, confirming the Blue's tale.

"Then I should thank you," Myrrhi grumbled, adding a "Thank you" with an even lower voice.

"What happened?" Emelda asked grabbing at her belt for a parchment she didn't have. "What have you seen?"

"A woman," the Green started before telling her companions everything that had happened to her in the world of dreams.

Emelda hummed in thought as Myrrhi finished her explanation of the dream. "Unfortunately, given the dream state we can't gather any true information on the woman or the surroundings. things can be manipulated, presentations altered"

"and that is the only question asked of you?" Iasla checked with the young Green. "how many were with you?"

  • 2 months later...

"Just the two of us," Myrrhi spits on the ground and places her hands on her hips. "She wanted to know how many we were...  If this was a joke, it is far from funny."

The young Green looks at her companions' faces and finds herself definitely not happy with their reaction. They don't seem to want to do anything about what just happen. They are too busy asking questions to each other.

Again, she describes the woman hoping it will somehow ring a bell to someone.

Emelda shook her head, finger to her lips, in thought. Though with the time none of the Sisters could come up with any ideas on who the woman who interrogated Myrrhi was.

"Do any of you know anyone with a talent for dreams?" Ialsa asked the group to be met with more shaking heads of negativity, all except their Yellow friend who looked thoroughly hesitant.  "Minnie" Ialsa pressed and the young woman took a deep breath.

"There may be someone." she finally relented. "But she's in the south. with the Reds"

It could never be simple with Aes Sedai.

They were the reason he crossed the DragonWall in the first place; with nothing but a vendetta on his mind. Somehow, he had ended up joining up with three of them, to reach his goal he thought. Three became four with a fifth unconscious, and the Warder who had spotted him, and to top it all off, a sixth had joined them. That was more than enough for Kaito.

But even the white hot rage, smouldering inside was no longer easy to grasp. Oh, it was still there, quietly boiling away, he doubted it would ever disappear, it was just no longer enough to drive him. He had even begun to doubt that the One Power was being used on him, to domesticate him; a repulsive thought. Even his plan was doomed, what was he thinking? Just walk into a tower filled with Aes Sedai and kill his prey? That plan had a healthy dose of stupidity and too much hope, a recipe bound to fail.

So, that night, while he was lost in the embers of the campfire sitting on his own, he decided to leave. The women were no problem, they seemed to be so intent on the unconscious one, each for her own reason, that they paid him no heed. Aes Sedai and their plotting. Technically, he wasn't breaking his word, he was leaving his weapons, and if he wasn't around them, he didn't have to scout for them. Weapons could be made anew anyway. So, he waited until the Warder got up to make his rounds - sneaking away was nigh on impossible with him around - and left, as silent as the waning moon.

As he was leaving he spotted those soldiers with white cloaks, hesitant on whether to go back to warn them or not, the clang of steel on steel announced their arrival had been discovered, so he swept away. With no purpose to guide him, he just ran away, no hindrance, no distraction, just running.

His feet took him on the Tar Valon path, and soon enough he spotted a town near a bridge, as the sun was nearing its noon-day peak. He entered avoiding the body of water, and starting cutting purses; no honour in that but he was past caring. Sufficiently funded, he found an inn, "The Lions Pride" it read. Surprise painted everyone's faces with shocked murmurs being whispered as he entered. The innkeeper, a stout lady with a firm look asked what was his business, politely enough but with wariness filling her eyes. He threw a few silvers at her demanding the best ale, and for the flow to not stop. The coin worked wonders; she ordered the serving maids staring at him to fetch ale and get to work.

And so, settling into a dark corner, Kaito drank and drank, like never before, drowning in the average ale. Memory was going by the time the sun set, and completely gone by the time the crescent moon painted the lands in a faint glow. The last thing he remembered was falling onto the dirt beside the road just outside of town, settling into the comfiest bush he had ever felt...

"The Reds,..." Myrrhi catches herself chewing on her lower lip. "Should we pay them a visit?"

True, she doesn't have a better place to go. The South sounds way nicer than Tar Valon ... there are so many cities that she hasn't visited and the Greens would not be there to stop her ...

"Ialsa?" she looks towards her companion hoping she too will want to inquire.
