Geeze another weekend of movies I do not care that much to see. 300 was number 1 at the box office last weekend but does it have the staying power to knock off 6 new releases? No worries, Uncle Empy will give you the low down on the top 3 movies coming out.

TMNT (Warner Bros.)

Starring the voices of Patrick Stewart, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Chris Evans, Ziyi Zhang, Kevin Smith

Tagline: "Raising Shell in 2007"

Plot Summary: After defeating their arch-nemesis Shredder, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles--Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael--have drifted apart, but their mentor Master Splinter needs to pull them together to face a new threat to humanity, an army of monsters being used to take over the world.

Why I Should See It: They're teenage and mutants and ninjas and turtles… what a combination! Plus they're not going to be nearly as silly as their '90s counterparts.

Why Not: Then again, a lot of people might feel that they're way too '90s to be taken seriously.

SHOOTER (Paramount)

Starring Mark Wahlberg, Michael Peña, Danny Glover

Tagline: "Yesterday was about honor. Today is about justice."

Plot Summary: The FBI calls upon former Marines sharpshooter Bob Lee Swagger (Mark Wahlberg) to help them prevent an assassination attempt on the President's life, but as Swagger investigates how something like that might be pulled off, he realizes that he's been set-up as a fall-guy and framed for the shooting of an important diplomat.

Why I Should See It: Mark Wahlberg takes on another great role in a strong action-thriller based on the novel by Stephen Hunter.

Why Not: Okay, maybe it's a bit TOO similar to The Bourne Identity.

REIGN OVER ME (Sony)

Starring Adam Sandler, Don Cheadle, Jada Pinkett Smith, Liv Tyler, Saffron Burrows, Donald Sutherland, Mike Binder

Tagline: "Let in the unexpected."

Plot Summary: Charlie Fineman (Adam Sandler) lost his family in the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and he hasn't been the same since. When he runs into his old college roommate Alan Johnson (Don Cheadle), they try to rekindle their friendship as Alan tries to help Charlie get over his all-consuming grief.

Why I Should See It: The odd pairing of Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle should make this an interesting dramatic film.

Why Not: It might be hard for moviegoers to take Sandler seriously even when playing a 9/11 survivor, and this role may be too different from what his fans are used to.

that is crazy useful. thanks much. TMNT is all my friends will take about. it's so going to beat the spartans silly.

Usually I post a review of a movie I am going to see... but...err.... there is nothing I want to see yet. I mean I remember TMNT when I was a kid and coming out of theatre wanting to karate chop things.... but.... yeah... I am old now.

Reign on Me looks good but maybe too dramatic, you know.

Shooter is a guy movie. When I was living in Cincy, I went to a movie every Friday at noon with a friend. This would be the movie we would see this week.

Next week is Blades of Glory!

i'm not a fan of sandler, so no reign of fire for me. shooter i laughed at the premiere. don't remember why but i don't think it was because i was manic over the concept.

this kind of info is really useful, too. overviews for more discussion than a specific review. but i had no idea you did any of this. so points.

I never watched the show =X I think the only one I know is Donatello or something. And that's from watching my brother play a game on his GB made in the Stone Ages or something.

*hits buzzer*

He's the smart one, and uses a bow staff, his band is purple.

Good to know, good to know. I just know knowing this will now help me win a million dollars on a game show in the future.

hehe, when you play ninja turtles nobody ever wants to be the purple one. You have to draw straws to find out who's stuck with being purple.

*pauses* ... i liked the purple one though. i had no idea about any of them but i liked the purple one.

TMNT: It's going to be more of an updated sort of goofy. TMNT has never been all that serious, and it's failed miserably when it's tried. I think it's based on the cartoon that's been on recently, which, last I saw it, was closer to the pulpy roots than the early 90's cheesefest cartoon. With a tendency to wander off into the bushes now and then. Really, though, who wants a Turtles movie without the Shredder in it? It might be a fun ninety minutes, but nothing to the first live action movie.

Shooter: Too similar to the Bourne Identity? That's exactly what I thought I was seeing a commercial for the first time it appeared on my television. Bourne 3. Fast editing even makes Mark Wahlberg look like Matt Damon.

Reign of Fire: I think people still aren't ready for any kind of maturity in an Adam Sandler movie. It may not be fair, but there it is. Don Cheadle, on the other hand, has Hotel Rwanda on his resume.

Blades of Glory: If I'm understanding the commercials right, it's a two-hour gay joke. Sorry, but I can't afford to have my brain cells die en masse.

I'm kinda excited about Blades of Glory, just because Will Ferrell can be funny in small doses, and I completely avoided his nascar one, so might be able to survive this one. Not sure I want to pay ten bucks for it, so I'll make Empy buy my ticket :) It looks like the sort of thing I'd be totally happy to wait and watch via netflix though.

Wow I was close...

Empy, you should see about working for a news paper or something.

Ohh Seggie, the new siggie... it is so ... pretty....

I asked the illuminators for it ;)

Yeh, and the guy who made yours is particularly talented, imo. Though he also seems to have a level of training that most of the rest of us don't! Perhaps this summer I'll take classes. ^_^
