So what do you think is the best movie made derived from a Video Game??

Warcraft is coming out with a movie at some point, Legendary pictures will be doing it. My mind is sort of blanking on movies from games aside from Doom, but the warcraft one should be good.

Shouldn't the movie have been actually based on the video game it shares its name with to qualify? Van Damme... bah!

 

My vote goes to Mortal Kombat. The first one, of course.

 

Also, a sympathy vote for Super Mario Bros. It was just as weakly associated with its namesake as Street Fighter, and it was a cheesy movie, but it was the fun kind of cheesy.

I'm going to say Dead or Alive. It is going to be extremely cheesy but the girls are hot.

I have to agree with Empy, but I'll go ahead and take Tomb Raider over RE, just because it has Chris Barrie. (I'm a big Red Dwarf fan). I suppose now that Daniel Craig has joined the Bond franchise that is another reason to rate TR.. (big Bond fan too)

My vote goes to the first MK movie. It was the best, though there really hasn't been a terrific movie based off of a video game.

yeah Tomb Raider was the best of the ones already released.

 

Everquest vs Warcraft, which do you think will come out on top?

I think they'll both suck, personally. You can't make an MMO into a movie, simply because there's no plotlines to MAKE into a movie. o_O

You'd be suprised at how much of a plotline WoW has. It is very easy to come out with a WoW movie I think if based on the story. It helps though that the Warcraft universe has been much advanced through previous non-mmo games.

I remember seeing one of those Pokemon movies when I was younger, and thought it was great. I wonder if I'll have the same opinion if I see it again, though.

What about Final Fantasy Advent Children? If that counts then, in my opinion that certainly is the best. Other then that all video game movies up to date pretty much sucked. Some are entertaining but none worth it.

It gets points for having Tom Baker in it (for the uninitiated, he is the Doctor Who with the long scarf.. the one most Americans associate with DW)

 

But even with him it wasn't that good. Maybe if he had been in more of it... :D

Come on it was awesome.... it has a thief... and dragons.... and..... bad acting. It is hard for me to choose between this and BloodRayne...

 

The reason that this genre sucks as movies is that half the movies made from games were directed by Uwe Bolle. Have I mentioned my dislike of this guy?

Yup, and most of those are just minor little things that you'll never hear of again until you roll a new character and repeat the quest.

 

Several of the questlines however, can very easily wind up becoming MAJOR plotlines for a movie or subsequent games. A Warcraft Movie has Huge potential, and I think that whatever they do with it, so long as they don't choose crappy actors, it'll be a good movie.
