Why the hell are they fighting with real swords. Why is it out of all the promotional material we have got are the swords that are in a clip showing training the most realistic weapons?

Why are the warder training grounds one tiny area inside the tower?

Interesting choice to have Gawyn win, I am assuming the light-haired one is Gawyn.

Also have to question the thoughts on the backflip section unless Galad knew that Gawyn was going to do a backflip off the column, in which case why did he throw the fight, was his plan to actually cleave Gawyn in 2 with his back turned?

On a lesser note did not think much of them playing up to the audience liked how they were more serious in the books about it.

Blunted steel swords have been used in training throughout history.  While the books described most of the practice swords as bambo poles lashed together if I remember correctly. I imagine they are not using those on screen simply because Western audiences wouldn't gel with them.  So much things put on film is changed simply because  audience's expect certain things even if those things are terribly wrong.

"He shall spill out the blood of those who call themselves Aiel as water on sand, and he shall break them as dried twigs, yet a remnant of a remnant shall he save, and they shall live."

  • I really enjoy it as well.  The action looked quite good.  Some solid show don't tell moments.  There was some dialogue that felt very stilted and I wonder if it was just a poor edit or cut down scene

Yeah i don't think Hammar would approve of the theatrics.

Those swords are not blunted look at the tips. Fully pointed. I'm also willig to bet blunted steel swords are used with people wearing armour and not just bare chested.

I just stumbled upon this clip myself, it was fun to watch.  I enjoyed the energy of it.  I can certainly see people being unhappy with the choreography though.  I took it as 2 young boys purposefully trying to show off for the audience though.

agree on that, it's very irrealistic as swordplay, but can fit if they are showing off.

Yes, that would have to be route - I guess, as pointed out - that didn't make sense to me if in the clip they were saying that they'd be headed to Tear in the morning.

from the clip of gawyn and galad with mat watching, they arrived in the tower and they had been in the tower for at least a few days. they had to testify against liandrin, anyway.

then there was the battle, and they decided to leave again. makes sense.

and traveling by ship is faster and cheaper than traveling by land, so it makes sense they'd take the ship instead of using the road through maradon and the borderlands.

Not over long distances,  unless your willing to trade horses. The thing Moiraine did for them just made them feel good to go. They were still fatigued but the symptoms were masked. Kind of an adrenaline burst, but you would crash later.

At least that is how I remembered it.

I still maintain that Rand didn't just "wash Bela's fatigue away", but changed her genetics, allowing her to keep up with the other horses that she had absolutely no right to.

One way to look at it... No one doubts that she'd have the stamina to keep up with these other horses over long distances, but to run as fast as these other horses? That's like seeing a Dachshund run alongside a Greyhound at full speed...

Spoiler

And I don't think it's a coincidence that the book begins and ends with Bela saving the day running at full speed.

They are in TV. In the cold open you have Lan & Moiraine in TV seeing the effects of the BA battle & having apparently already connected with Suian. Nynaeve is in that clip. This clip is confirmed from the first episode. In fact, I think about 1/4 of the first episode has been released at this point. The clip that was just released of the Galad and Gawyn fight is the warder training ground of the WT and Matt, Nynaeve, Elayne, and Min are in it.

Well, we'll definitely find out for sure today, lol.

I know there were definitely questions about whether it was TV or not as some of the architecture in the background didn't seem to sync up with what we've seen in the past, and that first clip we saw didn't show the tower in the background.

I haven't seen the new Galad x Gawyn clip. We'll also find out today if that clip is in episode 1, or another episode.

I don't think there is any indication that Bela is able to run with the other horses at any other time,  so itook itas a 1x boost. I guess there are instances of weaves transforming or giving abilities (PadanFain becoming the DO's hound,  the warder bond, Slayer?). So I suppose it is possible.  But, even by that standard any horse, still can not run all day. A fast ship runs 24/7 so it would likely still be faster.

Oh, I wasn't talking about anything to do with the ship. Just my musing that Rand genetically changed Bela in Book 1 in addition to "healing" her stamina so she could keep running & Keep up with the other horses.

I believe it was constantly mentioned through out the series that she was fast for a farm horse of her stature.

Guys, Bela is a champion of light, probably even a hero of the horn. Some even theorise she's the creator itself though I tend to think she's the 4th Tar'vareen that RJ scrapped 🐎

Bela disagrees! 😉 With OP healing and motivation she’s pretty fast.

sure, bela could reach the white tower from falme in a few minutes travel and defeat the black ajah while she's there, but for her imperscrutable equine reasons she let her human attendants believe they are doing all the job.

a regular horse, though, is much slower than a ship over long distances.

Bela is of the Old Blood. It sings in her.  Her ancestors carried the dead from Eamon's Field and the children of Manetheren out of the mountains after Eldrin's scourge of the Shadow.  Bela is so solid and fierce she probably appears as real in the Wolf Dream.  She did not have to be altered only woken up.

That was a pretty good scene really like getting the prophecy stuff but did the original prophecy stuff say he would save a remnant of a remnant or that only maybe would he save that much.

Really like that Rand is getting sword training Lan still feels much more touchy feely than the books.

I am hoping they are using this to:

1. create a contrast with Rand becoming harder and harder and

2. suggest another way of being strong rather than hard.

The whole "I'm a guy and I don't want to talk about what troubles me" we get from Rand in this clip is already showed as a limitation because Lan offers an opening.

Ohhhh, she is going to be such a good Elaida. Yeah, let's cage the Dragon, what could go wrong 😉

Notably, the other two Reds are Galina and Tsutama. Galina was thrown to the side when the Blacks attacked outside the hall 🤔
