Scientists at Oregon State University have developed the first non-theoretical material that can actually bend light "the wrong way" rendering it invisible to one wavelength.

Cloaking is still a long way off as the human eye uses more than one wavelength, and so far they only have enough material to make up 1/4 the width of a human hair, but it is a huge first step.
