New Member, about eight books in

Hello all!

I go by Syl in most forums. I love RJ's work and although I haven't had a chance to read the last four or five books, I plan to. I was thinking of making a char for the BT section but I have some questions.

1. What time in the books (or out) are we in?

2. By having the 'Spark' do you mean that one has accidently used the Power?

3. Should this be in the BT section :)?

Thanks,

Syl

Oooo New Thread ^_^

1. Around 1000 NE (Book 8 & 9), so no worries there. If you want to get into details, you might want to check this thread for the Timeline (White Tower POV) as well as the recent Kandor RP mentioned there.

2. No, having the Spark simply means you're able to channel.

3. Not really, there's plenty of people able to answer it anyway -- like me :P

Oh, and welcome to the forums! ;)

Depends on what type of meanings you're looking for.

If you're just looking for a name for your character, the WT-Pedia has a bunch of names, organised by country. What i do myself is get a feel of what the names in general sound like, then get a similarly sounding one that isn't in the Books :D

Since characters require a first and last name anyway, the chances of ending up with the exact same name as an existing character are pretty slim to none anyway, so don't worry about that.

As for meanings... depends. There's both the WoT Wikia and the Tar Valon library if you want to look stuff up. They're both wikia sites, though sometimes one has info the other doesn't so i generally check both anyway.

If you're talking about the Board, there's the How To Begin RPing thread which acts more or less as a FAQ and should cover all the basics questions.

Anything else? ^^;

Hmm, maybe. Should I start by making a character for the general RP board first and work my way into the BT or just start on the BT by sending them my char application?

Well, starting an 'unaffilated' character means you'd be applying for the Freelanders and get transferred to the Black Tower afterwards, so you'd be better off directly applying.

Since you'll be starting out as a fresh novice (or whatever they call it in the BT) anyway, you won't be missing out on anything. As an added plus, you don't need to find a random Asha'man and strike up a conversation with him to be able to join ;)

now in march you can actualy skip first tier and start as a dedicated (soldier-dedicated-asha'man)

and actualy having the spark means you are inborn with the ability to channel, and will channel wheter you want to or not

there are two types of channelers, those who are born with the spark (rates for females is only 1 out of 4 survive their channeling if not guided and learn to control it, for males its not recorded as presumed they all go mad, the females is called wilders by the WT) and 2ndly there are those who can learn, these do not have the spark

generaly those who have the spark often have developed some for of block they have to get passed to be able to controll their own channeling...ala nynaeve in the books who can only channel when she is angry at first

those with the spark who arent found before they channel first time ie dont get guided through it) will get sick after it, many dont survive that...others will die due to not understanding they are using OP and drawing in to much burning themself out...hence the female ratio of survival

hope that can help some

Thanks Ata! I sent in a bio to the BT, but I messed up and included names from the books. I only read the BT board before sending it in. :( Then a friend who recommended me to the site told me about the Bio board after I sent it so if the BT could let me reword those names I think it could still work. I mention it here as you are listed as a staff for the BT (I think, still learning ;)).

no i aint, i just is an ashie there ;) I am a division leader but for the shadowside of things, not BT ;)

you should PM Jocelyn, though likely she will be in contact with you anyway...

another note is due to old copyrigths and whatnot all our mainchars on the ligth side has different names

our dragon (rand) is called J...something (yeah lousy as me as DL to not recal but eh)

and generaly you need a good reason to get special aproal to mention them in bios and whatnot other then having heard of them or such, due to a lot of training in many divs happening in the past, people are normaly adviced to not mention them at all...and reason for not interacting is that they are so important figures its unlikely you ever would have met them ;) its like the odds of having a personal meeting with the leader of your country

but eh dont fret no biggie, we all been there being new, hey i still make mistaces and i been here what 3, closing on 4 years ;)

Hehe, I know about mistakes and understand them. I just like to point mine out as soon as I notice them. ;) What I mentioned was the time the DR passed through Fal Dara and mentioned a rumor of the Andor heir being Aes Sedai. I also forgot to add getting sick after uncontrolled use of minor OP. My bio was already pushing the limit on pages allowed. (I think) Easy fixes IMHO but will wait on BT response.

Welcome to DM!

Don't forget to check out the ORG side to let your hair down! Check out the Band of the Red Hand for music and travel, and all the other ORGs for whatever  they offer!

But whatever you do here at DM, have fun! :)

Thank you for the invite Corki! ;D I might check it out at a later date.

For now however I have another question which I have emailed to the WY DL but thought I should ask here as well. I want to make a Warder but was wondering if he could be for the group of Aes Sedai that are hiding in Amadicia? If so, then would he still train with the Warders at the WT and then return to them? If I can't then it is no problem but it will change my bio idea so a decently fast reply would be appreciated. Thank you. :)

our tower never split so afraid there is no AS in amadica in the drpsw RP
