Cari found herself outside the walls.  It wasn't a good idea to stick inside them for long, the guard had been tightened and the shadow knew now was not a good time to go in there again.  But it also wanted more to kill, and the challenge of the city would prove to be useful.

A man left the yards and Cari followed him.  He was heading down to some tavern or another.  Cari smiled and followed the man, he went into not-so-great tavern, that was noted for it's bad reputation and good ale.  Tower guards still came often and it was still amazing that fights broke out every night in there.  Cari walked in to alot of hoots and hollers.  She smiled and swayed through the men, flirting a little as she made her way to the bar where she ordered her victim a drink.  "Hi I'm Jenny, I saw you walk in here and couldn't help but follow you in."

His eyes brightened and watched Cari move with a critical eye.  "I'm Zach."

They spent several hours chatting and flirting.  The shadow hated doing this that this kill would be far more fun than any of the others.

Zack had plety of drinks in him when Cari finally asked. "Do you want to go to my place?"  He nearly jumped out of his seat and paid his tab. Cari smiled, he would find that this was not going to be his day.

Cari lead Zack around and about and into a darkened alley in the dock districts of Tar Valon.  She stopped in the shadows and looked at him with awe. "Oh I can't wait anymore."  She pulled him close and kissed him solidly.  They entwined bodies and before long they were fumbling for clothes.  When he saw the daggers hidden under her sleeves relazation dawned on him and he started to flee.  Cari covered his mouth and looked into his fear filled eyes and pulled out her dagger.

Zack struggled and her dagger flew off into the darkened shadows of the alley.  Cari drew her second dagger and slight his throat. Then hurried away with her unworn clothes into another dark shadow of an alley to dress and move on.  That had been a close one.

Yrean crossed the bridge, taking no note of the marvellous structure, he had not expected to be back here any time soon, and he certainly did not expect to be back here for the reason he was. Absent minded he stroked his horse, the gentle motion hiding the inner turmoil he felt. He knew, or rather suspected that he knew the reasons why Cari was here and that knowledge had a profound effect on him.

The time spent at the Ranch, and in setting up his new business, had lulled Yrean into a false sense of normalcy. He had almost believed Cari had put this side of her life behind her, but after recent events, culminating in the encounter on the road to the Ranch, Yrean knew that what he had hoped for would never come about now. All that was left was for him to follow the trail to its bitter culmination. Perhaps he could save the situation, perhaps he could not .The last time he had been here, he had been hunting a murderer. Now circumstances had come full circle, and he knew that if he did not act lives would be lost and one of them would be most dear to him.

Pushing himself from the wall he was leaning against, Yrean lead his horse through the gate and into the City proper. His first port of call was a stable where he could leave his horse and start on his search. Knowing the City as well as he did Yrean had no problems finding a reputable Stable.

It was not long before Yrean was back out on the streets, his next task was to find lodgings for himself, and this meant avoiding any of the areas of the City where he would be known. That was not as easy as it sounded but Yrean thought he knew just the place, one whose patronage would not suspect what he was here for.

The Blue Cat Inn was exactly how the name described it. Built by the Ogier, the Blue Cat Inn looked almost exactly like a large blue cat and could almost be said to be one of the marvels of the known world. However, in Tar Valon it was just one marvel amongst many.

Yrean paid the proprietor for his double room, and quickly made his way to the third floor and without bothering to wash or change, dumped his saddle bags in a corner and headed back downstairs and out into the busy streets.  Yrean needed information, the sort of information that you could not ask the City Watch about, without attracting notice, and Yrean wanted to avoid that. Realising that he would have to frequent parts of the City where he would be known, Yrean pondered how he could reduce the chance of recognition.

The cloaked, and hooded figure moved from shadow to shadow, with a grace and fluidity that spoke volumes, but only to those who knew how to listen. Staying out of sight was easy, when your prey had no idea that it was being hunted, and Yrean knew that Cari did not suspect he was hunting her. It had taken the best part of the evening for Yrean to gather the information that he needed, and he had had to change his disguise three times, which was not unexpected. How much easier this would have been if he had not wanted to stay unrecognised.

However, he now had all the information he thought he needed, and knew where and when the preceding murders had occurred. This helped a little, it provided what Yrean thought of as confirmation that Cari was up to her old trade and Yrean rightly guessed that this time she would not escape. She had always had, what Yrean thought, was a reckless side and now he thought she had not only crossed the line, but totally shattered it. However it was not that night that he would get confirmation of all this, it would be several nights before that occurred.

The hooded figure leant next to the chimney stack, scanning the alleyways below, hardly daring to breath. This was the last place he had expected to find Cari, but now that he had it all made sense. He had been right she was getting even more reckless, and this location proved it.

It was too close to the Yards, and that meant to close to their former employees, but it was a perfect match for his profile of Cari. Silently Yrean dropped into the alley and followed the two shapes ahead of him.

Events unfolded quicker than Yrean wanted, and he was unable to influence them in anyway, except one crucial way. When Cari’s dagger was knocked from her hand, Yrean was just able to follow its flight through the air. Thankfully the blade twinkled as it flew through a patch of moonlight, and this allowed Yrean to mark its location. However this presented Yrean with a quandary. He could not recover the blade and confront Cari, one act precluded the other. Deciding that it was better to remove the evidence, Yrean waited until he was sure Cari had left the alleyway before he emerged from the shadows and swiftly crossed to where the dagger lay. Picking it up, Yrean crossed to where the bloody remains of the body lay and after a moment’s hesitation, wiped the blade clean on the victim’s cloak.

Lying on his bed, Yrean stared up at the ceiling, idly twirling the dagger around his fingers that balance almost perfect, as he would expect from one of Cari’s weapons. He now had the confirmation that he had needed, but now he did not know what to do about that confirmation, and the pondering of that would keep him awake all night, the dagger twirling away as if his life depended on it.
