I am definitely in a metal phase, whichh has lasted for a couple of years now. Before that, it was electronica, which I still like. Rock has always been there for me.

And what the hell is Screamo?? I think I have an idea, but just want clarification!

Nickel Creek is one of the best known bluegrass bands.

here's one of Bela Fleck and Steve Martin playing one of steve martin's songs

Tough one. What should one base the vote one? For example, with one exception, opera is the only music that has ever had such an emotional impact that I actually cired (the exception is The Cure, the Wish tour -93).

But I have to stick with classical.

But I have to stick with classical. Beethovens 9th symphony, 4th movement. All the reason you need.

Krak, just 'listen' to this...

Lacrimosa dies illa

Qua resurget ex favilla

Judicandus homo reus

Huic ergo parce, deus

Pie Jesu domine

Dona eis requiem

And hell yeah, I pulled that from memory, Booyah! ;D

Lacrimosa, not Pie Jesu (and Lacrimosa is the final part of Sequentia, which is the 3rd part of Requiem). So, an excerpt from Requiem (in my case, Mozarts version). Most definitly a classical piece.

Well, I had a tough one.  Technically I grew up on Metal....from it's earliest roots in the 60-70's, to it's mainstream insurgence in the 80's.  But I went with Rock, as it is more broad in terms of what I listen to.

as far as variety goes, i don't think there is a genre that's more broad than metal. there's

heavy metal

ambient metal

psychedelic metal

sludge metal

death metal

black metal

progressive metal

viking metal

grind core metal

power metal

speed metal

folk metal

neo-classical metal

love metal

thrash metal

doom metal

gothic metal

that's 17 different types of metal. if you can think of a genre with more variety then tell me and list the types. besides those are only the metal genres i can think of off the top of my head.

that's 21 (i already listed folk metal) there's also

avant-garde metal

stoner metal

drone metal

and that makes 24

It's a rather endless list...though I would like to know the difference between "Nordic Folk Metal" and "Folk Metal"! lol!

it's the same difference between Viking Metal and Death Metal. Viking Metal is mostly about vikings of course and the odinistic  gods of Asgard such as Thor. Nordic Folk Metal emphasizes Nordic folk lore instead of folk lore in general

See when it comes to music, that is where I get annoyed.  Most of those 'branches' of metal, are just someones excuse to be metal without 'being' metal.  ::)

Yeah...you just need to look at some of the tags used on last.fm for some of the groups!

For example, I am currently listening to a song by Xandria, and here are all the tags used on last.fm for the group - all 60 different tags. Many can be dumped or merged into one. Just crazy!
