I won't post any spoilers for those who have not yet read the book, but I must say that it is amazing. Any who have read the entire series so far knows that the first 5 or so books are well paced and exciting, the last 6 are relatively slow and lacking in major events. I for one was not bothered a great deal by this, as it allowed Jordan to expand our knowledge of the world he created and add little details that would enhance our enjoyment of later books. Reading the Gathering Storm is like riding a great roller coaster. You can't stop while you are on it and it leaves you catching your breath at the end. The events that transpire in this book are shocking (in a good way) and very well written. I have to say that it was a good choice to choose Brandon Sanderson to finish this series, Robert Jordan would be proud of all those who worked to make this book, and those to come, such a huge success.
