AS Testing

This goes for both the Accepted and full shawl (Aes Sedai) tests.

Ok...I don't know if this has been discussed, but I thought of it while reading Moiraine's test for the shawl.

Where do they get sent during the tests?!?!

Is it TAR, another reality, or a vacuole?

  • We know if you get injured in TAR, you come out with those injuries, but this not always the case in the testing.
  • We don't know much about the vacuoles, but I believe it was stated that the first person to arrive gets to choose the setting. Can they constantly be changed?
  • Or is it something like where the portal stones send you? Another world?

All of these are feasible explanations in my mind, but none can fit in how the AS who power the ter'angreal control it, or how the person can come out completely unharmed, even if they are almost dead during the test.

I have not finished completely rereading the shawl testing yet, but I want to know what you all think, or what conclusions have already been made if any.

Just to make sure, which chapter are you referring to?

In NS...

It is Chapters 9 and 10 for Moiraine....

haven't read Siuan's yet, but I would assume it is Chapters 10-11.

Maybe you enter TAR in the flesh. It can still be manipulated the same cant it? As in, maybe you could be wounded but remove the wound by being deadly sure that it isnt real.

I don't know....

It could go along the with the theme in the books that channelers don't know as much as they think...

But I don't think the Wise Ones are as bad as AS....

I am pretty sure they would have tried already...

From looking through the New Spring pages at Encyclopaedia and from skimming the book, Siuan's test seems to be off-screen.

I have not yet started New Spring.

It seems to me that the Accepted test occurs in a different type of world (because of the voice in the background); but one somewhat related to Telaranrhiod (because of Egwene's experience).

Possibly also the Aes Sedia test.

The thing about the voice in the background also feels like TAR to me because TAR can be manipulated through need, as seen by the Supergirls. The need to escape is strong. Now, its been a while since I read Nynaeves test, but didnt she somehow recreate the exit, or hold it open, by willing it? I could very well be wrong but Im sure there was something about the exit vanishing for a moment, then reappearing, and the test taking longer than expected. Might have been Egwene. Or nobody

But, if it is TAR, why do they come out unhurt?

Do the Aes Sedai have that much control through the Ter'angreal?

Nyn channeled as well as thought of it. So, if TAR, yes, that would explain need. She recreated the door.

Can someone be changed by the Power like Rahvin did to Rand? That scene makes me think he is manipulating TAR by changing Rand into whatever, even though Rand is in the flesh. I think if someone was in TAR in the flesh, and they either didnt know or they knew enough, they could Heal themselves before leaving. Hence why some people come out wounded and some dont. Like Egwene, maybe she could undo a wound even if she went in the flesh. I could be wrong though

We have seen stuff like what Rahvin did.

Moggy and the Nyn/horse threat.

I think Lanfear or Moggy trying to trap Egwene in EF in TAR.

I think there is a difference from changing something in TAR that will stay in TAR from something that is changed and translates outside the Dream.

Remember, Rand was there in the flesh. Any changes were made to him, not his dream body or w/e it is..... Just saw you wrote that... :P

They don't all get healed though....some come out with injuries, no?

Why is it only some?

If the AS have that control, I think they would know...

I am also pretty sure that they do everything the same every time....

hmmmmm.....

Interesting....

Anyone wanna find it?

lol...

I am not good at finding quotes...especially by RJ....

The AS one makes sense, since Moiraine thought Elaida tried to make her fail, and that her last scenario was one by Elaida.....

The AS testing ter'angreal could be almost like the Chair of Remorse or w/e the pain inflicting thing is.....

Now, for the Accepted one, are we gonna find out later...

Nyn's thing with Sharina being her advisor....

Does it have some fortune telling ability....

Does it show one of the many possible futures? Like the Aiel one, but more specific?

Aubrey: During the raising tests for Accepted and Aes Sedai, are the ladies taking the tests actually inside of the World of Dreams?

Jordan: No...well, I am not going to say where they are for the tests for Accepted, that might be a RAFO, probably not, but it might be. For the test for Aes Sedai, they are in effect inside what you might call an uber-virtual reality device where what happens is entirely controlled in this case by the sisters controlling the device, but it is a virtual reality that is so terrific that it is reality for you. You die, you are dead. No game over, start again. You are dead.

thanks for the quote...

so, we might not find out about the Accepted testing...

:(

cool....that is why Ellid died.....

The fact that it got a RAFO to me makes me think it might be a vacuole and there is no way he could think of to reveal it. Not as if Rand is going there any time soon with Lews Therins knowledge, and not as if the Forsaken would reveal the true purpose of it.

Harsh. I'd like to have learned where all these different realms are in relation to each other; we've seen possible futures, we've seen vacoules which are like a gap in the Pattern that can be manipulated, we have the dream reflection of the world... What about Finnland? I hope that gets cleared up around Moiraines rescue.

The thing about the voice in the background also feels like TAR to me because TAR can be manipulated

Almost anybody can change their own clothing in Telaranrhiod.

People that have had some degree of Telaranrhiod training can remove various things like Trollocs or dust, and fix objects from their mind into Telaranrhiod; and can move to various locations just by thinking of them.

Voices seem more advanced than all those.
